While Schelling's anticipation of Freudian psychoanalysis is well established, it has thus far gone unnoticed that Schelling's ideas also proved fruitful in the context of a distinctively philosophical theory of the psyche developed by a younger contemporary of Freud. During the 1920s Helmuth Plessner, a key figure of philosophical anthropology, outlined a complex conception of the psyche as an individualized, inner region of reality. Although Plessner did not present his philosophical psychology in a systematic form, its building blocks can be found in The Unity of the Senses, The Limits of Community, and Levels of Organic Life and the Human, among other writings. Moreover, Plessner left a clue as to how these building blocks fit together, which suggests that Plessner viewed his philosophical psychology as structurally analogous to the model of personality outlined in Schelling's 1809 treatise on human freedom. I propose that Plessner sought to formulate an alternative to both idealism and realism about the psyche that might reconcile the insights motivating these rival positions. Schelling provided Plessner with a workable model for such a reconciliation. After reviewing textual evidence for my hypothesis, I sketch Schelling's predecessor theory. Based on the Schellingian template, I then reconstruct Plessner's non-reductively naturalistic theory of the psyche, which aligns the real bodily ground of the psyche with its ideal existence. Highlighting the strengths of Plessner's philosophical psychology against the foil of Paul Ricoeur's and John McDowell's relevant arguments, I argue that the theory reconstructed here deserves contemporary consideration as a plausible contender. The thermal and chemical evolution of (16) Psyche would have been influenced by the direction of core solidification and thickness of an outer (rocky) silicate layer. We model the thermal evolution and core solidification of Psyche for a range of outer silicate layer thicknesses and core sulfur contents to calculate the resulting radial contraction and moments of inertia. We generally find that increasing the thickness of the outer silicate layer by 10 km results in a ∼1‐km reduction in total radial contraction. Additionally, we find that the timing of full core solidification, and thus a large amount of predicted contraction, can differ by up to 25 Myr for inward versus outward core growth. Finally, our calculated moment‐of‐inertia factors for models with inward core growth that contain sulfur are consistently larger than those with outward core growth. Ultimately, spacecraft‐derived estimates of Psyche's moment of inertia and surface contraction will be able to provide constraints on Psyche's interior evolution, silicate layer thickness, and direction of core solidification. Plain Language Summary: The asteroid Psyche has a metal‐rich surface but a lower density than pure metal. This means it may have a significant rocky component in addition to the metal. For the possible scenario in which Psyche is a differentiated body with a silicate rocky layer above an iron‐rich core, we model the temperature evolution for different amounts of rock and different core compositions. When a rocky or metal planetary body cools, it shrinks, which can result in a particular type of tectonic feature called thrust faults. We expect the differences in internal structure and the way in which the core freezes in our models to produce differences in the surface record of faults as well as in the distribution of mass within Psyche. We calculate the predicted decrease in radius and distribution of mass from each of our models and find that the surface record of faulting and the moment of inertia of Psyche are noticeably different depending on Psyche's silicate fraction and internal evolution. If Psyche is indeed a differentiated body, these features will be observed and measured when the dedicated NASA mission to Psyche arrives in 2029. Background: The nationwide study German Health Update (GEDA) 2021/2022-Diabetes was conducted to assess the current healthcare and health situation of adults with diabetes in Germany. Methods: GEDA 2021/2022-Diabetes comprises a sample of adults with diagnosed diabetes from the general population. The analysis focuses on adults aged 45 years and over with type 2 diabetes (N = 1,448) and provides selected indicators on diabetes care as well as mental, social and general health. Results: 87.5 % of participants aged 45 years and over with type 2 diabetes are treated with blood glucose-lowering medication. 36.5 % receive insulin alone or in combination with other antidiabetics; 0.7 % use an insulin pump. Almost 96 % had an HbA1c measurement in the last year and about two thirds each report annual foot and eye examinations, participation in a diabetes self-management education programme and self-monitoring of their feet and of blood glucose (12.0 % with continuous glucose monitoring). On average, the quality of diabetes care is perceived as moderate. 23.8 % rate their mental health as excellent/very good. More than a tenth each have anxiety or depressive symptoms and feelings of loneliness. Half rate their general health as very good/good. Conclusions: There is a potential for improvement in the quality of diabetes care and the mental and physical health of adults with type 2 diabetes.

This essay is an attempt to propose an outline of a new respiratory animal philosophy. Based on an analysis of the forgetting of breath in Western philosophy, it aims to gesture towards a future, breathful and compassionate world of co-sharing and co-breathing. In the first part, the basic features of forgetting of breath are explained based on David Abram's work in respiratory ecophilosophy. This part also introduces an important contribution to modern philosophy by Ludwig Klages. The second part is dedicated to reflections on what I understand as an unfortunate transition from soul and pneuma to spirit and Geist. Based on these analyses, I proceed towards an idiosyncratic thought on the nocturnal mystery of pneuma, with references to ancient Upanishadic and 20th-century phenomenological Levinasian thought. Based on these teachings, I argue that, at the bottom of her existence, the subject is a lung partaking in an immense external lung (Merleau-Ponty). In the fourth part of the essay, I extend my reflections toward comparative animal respiratory phenomenology and argue for the immense compassion for all our fellow breathing beings. Finally, in the concluding, fifth part of this essay, I am arguing for a future biocentric and breathful environment, signifying and bringing a new compassionate-respiratory alliance into the world. The memories of past experiences have an unconscious influence on the present. In her novel Beloved, Toni Morrison vividly portrays the atrocities of slavery, shedding light on the enduring psychic wounds inflicted upon subjugated Black women and their motherhood. This study explores the embedded memories, trauma, and dehumanization that control and distort the ability of Black individuals to respond to the human experiences of maternal bonds. While existing literature has extensively explored motherhood, a gap remains in understanding the archetypal development within the fragmented psyche of tormented mothers. Drawing from Carl Jung and Eric Neumann's collective unconscious and mother archetype concept, this interdisciplinary research aims to identify and examine the dual nature of motherhood - the loving and the terrible. Jungian psychotherapist Dr. Edward Tick has worked with American veterans of foreign wars for decades. During that time, he learned that one of the most effective paths to healing was to guide Vietnam veterans back there to retrieve their souls that had been left behind, often for decades. He took the acronym PTSD and translated it as Post-traumatic Soul Distress. Those in the medical profession worked with the physical injuries of traumatized veterans; however, they overlooked the trauma to the souls of these returning warriors. Tick and his wife, Kate Dahlstedt, founded Soldier's Heart () in order to travel more deeply into the mythology, spirituality, and psychology of woundedness. He continues his work today in branching out to a larger population suffering the wounds of a society itself in need of soul intervention. This article discusses the confluence of Body-Mind Centering (BMC)® practices with elements of Michael Chekhov's technique as foundations for an integrated psychophysical approach to acting that does not build divisions between the actor's body, psyche, and mind. For Chekhov, actors embody their characters from creative work, driven by embodied imagination and awareness of sensory perception. BMC® proposes 'embodiment', which is seen as an awareness process, at the cellular level, which occurs through the participant's experience itself, not through intellectual understanding. Linking sensory perception to imagination the author emphasizes the respect for the singularity in both approaches: for BMC® any self-perception of the body is valued and for Chekhov, actor's creative individuality must be respected. The author has investigated, in research-led workshops, experiences of the actor's living anatomy from body systems and patterns as new grounds for Michael Chekhov's acting technique. This work has explored a relationships between specific imaginary centres to correspondent organs and tissues of the body and particular movement qualities to specific body systems. The practice research revealed that BMC® broadens the perception of internal physical aspects, as a mental state, which supports the development of the skills sought by Chekhov for what he called 'inspired acting'. Furthermore, the systematization achieved in this research can be applied to sectors beyond the theatre, resonating with Fleming and Cornford et al.'s argument for a use of Chekhov Technique in applied, community and therapeutic contexts (2020). Sahitya Akademy award winner Jayanta Mahapatra's popular book A Rain Of Rites has an unusual enthrall and merit that I have attempted to interpret/unravel briefly in my own culturally creative mode in this article besides commemorating his death. It is a book having imagery and symbolism as its main thematic concern. The image of rain is used by the poet to symbolise fertility, creative impulse and destructive power-potency. The rain as metaphor at various places never falls rather gets converted into light and then fails to accomplish its objective. Moreover, the whole series of poems suggest a process of purification by means of strange stillness, quietude, solitude, mud-built houses, rivers, hills, trees and a vast stretch of landscapes. The soul of the poet is torn between good and evil, fair and foul and the ultimate judgement for deliverance, Mukti or salvation. The One, by theoretical physicist Heinrich Pas, reviews the history of monism from the Greeks to the modern period. Pas proposes a monism he calls "the One." His One follows from quantum mechanics. It is a universal wave function. He is then faced with how our everyday world arises. To answer he relies on a version of Evert's many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics and a process of decoherence that results in a dualism of consciousness and the quasi-classical world of space, time, and matter. C. G. Jung proposed a dual-aspect monism influenced by synchronicity. OBJECTIVE: Patients with depression during labor display dysregulated patterns of oxytocin release and this may impact second stage of labor. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between maternal preconception and antenatal depressive disorders on the duration of second stage of labor and perinatal outcomes. STUDY DESIGN: Secondary analysis of patients enrolled in the Behavioral and Mood in Mothers, Behavior in Infants study who reached the second stage of labor. Participants were assigned to: pre-conception only major depressive disorder (MDD), prenatal major depressive disorder, and non-depressed controls. Primary outcome was prolonged second stage of labor. Secondary outcomes included perinatal morbidities. RESULTS: 172 patients were included. 24.4% (42/172) participants had preconception-only MDD, 42.4% (73/172) patients had prenatal MDD, and 33.1% (57/172) patients had as non-depressed controls. The adjusted pair-wise analysis between groups showed no significant difference in the duration of second stage. No statistically significant differences were noted between groups for adverse neonatal outcomes. Addressing these disorders effectively necessitates a comprehensive approach, combining pharmacological interventions with psychotherapeutic strategies under the guidance of specialized professionals. In this regard, the study is aimed at identifying aspects and features of the development of psychological problems and personality disorders in the modern world filled with various stressors. The leading methods of studying this problem are analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, comparison, experiment and systematisation of approaches that will help determine a wide range of mental disorders. Theoretical methods were used to analyze the literature and summarize theoretical material on anxiety and depressive disorders. Diagnostic methods were used to assess the psychological state of the study population. The study examines significant clinical syndromes and vegetative disorders that disrupt normal lifestyle, hinder daily activities, and impede professional growth. It evaluates the roles of psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers in assisting individuals with anxiety disorders. It outlines preventive measures for anxiety and depression, while also delving into various types of anxiety disorders. The research proposes diverse methods to prevent emotional anxiety and instability. It underscores the importance of devising novel strategies for diagnosis and therapy, emphasizing a comprehensive approach involving psychotherapeutic support, medical intervention, and adaptive behavioral techniques. The findings of the study hold both practical and theoretical significance for professionals in psychology, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and sociology who provide support for individuals with anxiety and depressive disorders. Furthermore, the insights provided may be pertinent to researchers and scholars investigating the psychological well-being of contemporary society amidst adverse external circumstances.

Abstract Astronomical observations indicate that asteroid (16) Psyche is a large, high‐density (likely >3,400 kg·m−3), metal‐rich (30–55 vol. %) asteroid. Psyche may be remnant core material or it could be a primordial, undifferentiated metal‐rich object. We discuss the science objectives of the upcoming Psyche mission, which will employ three instruments (the Magnetometer, Multispectral Imager, and Gamma‐Ray and Neutron Spectrometer) and will use Doppler tracking of the spacecraft to explore the asteroid. This mission will shed light on the nature and origins of metal‐rich objects in the solar system and beyond, including the cores of the terrestrial planets.

The following study presents a concise historical overview of natural philosophy, examining the interpretations of the human psyche and their development up until the contemporary era. The presentation focuses on some of the main theories regarding the nature and functions of the mind, aiming to contrast them with one of the unfulfilled intellectual projects of the Romanian polymath C. Rădulescu-Motru. Specifically, his project aimed to establish a philosophical system addressing the intricacies of the human soul in the context of the scientific advances considered modern at the time–a system he referred to as the new science of the soul. His objective was to provide a comprehensive perspective encompassing all areas of knowledge in order to mitigate their tendency towards determinism, mechanism and biologism, which were spreading from the direction of the natural science.

This text helps to answer the question of whether the validity of myth has an active psychic function in the unconscious search for meaning in the life of modern men, which is assumed to be far removed from all mythical and ritual thought and immersed in a context in which reason is the only criterion of truth. The text focuses, therefore, on analyzing the power and influence of this psychic reality in the conscious world and on reflecting on whether this imaginal phenomenon has any use in the civilizing process or whether, on the contrary, the myth is rather a ballast, a simple chimera that makes it difficult to understand and accept the complicated conditions of today’s existence. The texts also reflects on whether dealing with this imaginal and symbolic universe meets the unconscious expectations and desires of today’s men to find meaning in their existence. The research methodology is based on the psychic phenomenology proposed by Carl Jung, and is also nourished, to a large extent, by the theoretical and conceptual contributions of the Romanian philosopher Mircea Eliade. In the rational world, the subconscious of current human beings does not cease to present innumerable myths and symbols, since it is never completely detached from the imaginal world. This is due to the fact that individuals are unconsciously influenced by ancestral mythological models of behavior that remain latent in the depths of the human being.

The early history of Sangam is revealed through the book of Agapoorul “Eraiynar Kalaviyal Urai”. The period of the book is before the 8th century. Tamil language and Tamil Literature portray the ancient Tamil people's antiquity and life. Sangam Literature is the base authority of ancient Tamil people and culture. Among the “Ettuthogai” books in Sangam Literature, Ainkurunuru speaks about the life of the Leader (Thalaivan) and the beloved (Thalaivi). Although it is short, it stands a virtual role in the subtlety of the subject and also explains the feeling of the lovers with the excellence of human feelings and emotions. The words used in “Ainkurunooru” mingle with our heart and also make us feel the state of joining with ancient people's feelings. Although psychological concepts are listed in the “Ainkurunooru”, they are not explained what that is properly. Mostly, the Sangam literature and the chosen work “Ainkurunooru” speak of the psychological turmoil of the beloved when the Leader is absent from home for the sake of war or business. Very simple studies focussed on the psychological state of the beloved’s friend (Thozhi). The article examines the state of mind of the beloved’s friend (Thozhi) systematically with the psychological projections and regressions of the beloved that affect her psyche. Although there are main characters in “Ainkurunooru” like the leader and beloved, the main purpose of this article is to examine the psyche of the friend (Thozhi) with the evidence found in “Ainkurunooru”.

In this work, we intend to present a reading of current society as the extinction society. Extinction society here means the characterization, both social and individual, of a highly developed reality, especially in terms of personal freedom, unable to face global collective threats, first of all the climate disaster. This involves the risk, within a few generations, of the extinction of both the type of society that at least in the West we have been accustomed to for a few hundred years, and in the apocalyptic perspective of the species. The attempt to represent this question is addressed here by referring to some recent authors of cultural studies and sociology, to try and understand the principles of this extinction process. Following the analysis of what is in fact a process of individual liberation, that is, of increasingly advanced individualization, we proceed by looking at the macro‐themes of consumption, politics and psyche. This psychoanalytic study of affective labour focuses on its two central elements: human contact and love. It is based on a multi-sited organizational ethnography of the fine dining sector in Istanbul, Turkey, where new restaurant areas known as 'show kitchens' place chefs in face-to-face contact with patrons. To understand the psychosocial processes of affective production, we analyse chefs' and patrons' experiences of encounters in and around 'show kitchens'. We demonstrate that affect is produced through unconscious contact mediated by socio-cultural representations, which are hegemonized by the ethos of love for one's job. We contribute to the extant literature on affective labour by studying the desirous interplay between producers and consumers of affect. Specifically, we theorize the role of the psyche in affective production, and offer a new, psychoanalytic conceptualization of affective labour. The relevance of the problem is the need to highlight specific differences in the psychological portraits of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert to distinguish clearly between seemingly similar concepts. The purpose of the research is to detail the specific features of human mental states, to establish the differential characteristics of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert, and to distinguish each of these states as a separate independent component of the human psyche. Statistical and analytical methods were used to obtain the necessary results. The main markers of sociophobic behaviour are considered, and it is noted that they can manifest themselves with varying intensity depending on the severity of the symptoms of sociophobia. The author presents a psychological portrait of a sociopath and defines the typology of sociopathy. The main features of an introverted personality are identified, the advantages that introverts have in comparison with extroverts and the main forms of their maladjustment are considered. The specific framework of each concept examined is highlighted, and the differences between them are indicated. It is substantiated that introversion appears in humans from birth and is associated with the specific structure of the brain, while sociopathy and sociophobia are acquired throughout life as a result of psychological and physiological trauma. It is identified that a sociophobe and a sociopath differ in psychological characteristics, as a sociophobe is afraid of people, and a sociopath hates people. It is proved that, unlike sociophobia and sociopathy, introversion is not a mental disorder, but an element of a healthy psyche. The practical significance of the research is that the results will help to distinguish the psychological states of a person, to understand and differentiate the analysed concepts more clearly, to preliminarily determine one’s psychological state, to establish a specific framework for a simplified psychologist’s conclusion, and to identify important details and features of the manifestations of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert.

Psychodermatology is an emerging newer subspecialty of dermatology, which comprises dermatology, psychiatry, and psychology. Eventhough the concept is old this dictum has acquired tremendous importance in recent decades. The mind and body are considered as a single unit instead of mind versus body dualism, and this stresses the need for holistic approach of disease management. Formerly, the biomedical concept of disease was very prevalent, which compared the human body to a machine and the doctor was like a technician doing the repair work of human machine, where the mind was completely neglected. But in this recent concept the mind has very important role in health, disease causation and healing. Skin is a part of neuro-immuno-cutaneous-endocrine system. So any disease affecting skin can affect the mind and vise versa. The psycho physiological conditions are highly stress related and secondary psychiatric comorbidities are very common in dermatological conditions especially on visible part of our.

Diva was a French film released to European audiences in 1981 and American ones in 1982. Directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, this film comes from the 1970s cinéma du look movement that used striking imagery to portray social outsiders and express their alienation from society. This article summarizes the film, its characters, cinematography, and innovative musical score by Vladimir Cosma. Recurring motifs in the film emphasize a tenuous fragmentation that not only depicts life struggles for those who felt marginalized during the early 1980s, but also suggests an avant-garde possibility for conceptualizing the psyche. Rather than emphasizing static forms of identity, or identifying categories, Diva helps viewers appreciate the multiplicity of human experience and also its fragility. The author reviews Jung's experimentation with mandalas and discusses his writings about them as illustrations of the psyche, in particular, the self trying to represent a kind of psychological order. Although Diva could be considered a type of film mandala, the author suggests that the term mosaic is more accurate—that it is a film mosaic. Further, he extends this interpretation to propose an updated view of human psyche as mosaic, a dynamic form with many disparate parts that we hope to hold together but often cannot. The NASA Psyche mission's program to engage university undergraduates and the public in the mission is inspired by and built upon the extensive foundation of public engagement, educational outreach activities, and expertise of NASA and mission partner institutions. The program leverages the enthusiasm and contributions of undergraduates nationwide to the benefit of the mission, the students and their institutions and communities, and the broader public. Psyche Student Collaborations consists of four main programs, two (Psyche Capstone and Psyche Inspired) are available solely to undergraduates enrolled at universities or community colleges in the United States and its territories and two (Innovation Toolkit free online courses and Science Outreach Interns and Docents) invite broader participation by engaging the talents and creativity of undergraduate interns to help create content and events to reach the public and lifelong learners. Together, these offerings provide multiple entry points and a spectrum of intensity of experiences, numbers of participants, disciplinary diversity, and mode of delivery. The objective of the Psyche Magnetometry Investigation is to test the hypothesis that asteroid (16) Psyche formed from the core of a differentiated planetesimal. To address this, the Psyche Magnetometer will measure the magnetic field around the asteroid to search for evidence of remanent magnetization. Paleomagnetic measurements of meteorites and dynamo theory indicate that a diversity of planetesimals once generated dynamo magnetic fields in their metallic cores. Likewise, the detection of a strong magnetic moment (> 2 × 10 14 Am 2 ) at Psyche would likely indicate that the body once generated a core dynamo, implying that it formed by igneous differentiation. The Psyche Magnetometer consists of two three-axis fluxgate Sensor Units (SUs) mounted 0.7 m apart along a 2.15-m long boom and connected to two Electronics Units (EUs) located within the spacecraft bus. The Magnetometer samples at up to 50 Hz, has a range of ± 80 , 000 nT , and an instrument noise of 39 pT axis − 1 3 σ integrated over 0.1 to 1 Hz. The two pairs of SUs and EUs provide redundancy and enable gradiometry measurements to suppress noise from flight system magnetic fields. The Magnetometer will be powered on soon after launch and acquire data for the full duration of the mission. This article reassesses the place of Louisa May Alcott's pseudonymous domestic horror fiction in the wider canon of her work. Traditionally, Alcott's domestic horror writing has been viewed as an expression of her repressed authorial individualism and desire for incorporation into a male literary tradition. Through examining Alcott's allusions to Nathaniel Hawthorne, I argue that her domestic horror writing exposes the traumatic repercussions of male individualism for women in the work of her contemporaries. Her pseudonymous horror novella, A Marble Woman (1865), appropriates Hawthorne's allusions to the Pygmalion myth in his earlier novel, The Marble Faun (1860), to demonstrate that the male artist's preoccupation with a lifeless muse is contingent upon acts of psychological abuse. Alcott interrogates Hawthorne's elevation of the female copyist to demonstrate that Hawthorne only endorses women's art when it supports male traditions of creativity, thereby placing women in a subordinate role that stunts their creative power. In place of copyism, Alcott promotes an equal relationship between male and female artists that enables women to critique the work of men. Mortality from diseases of the cardiovascular system has been at the forefront throughout the world for more than 20 years, and especially during the recent years. More than 16% of all deaths are due to these diseases. So, in Russia – this is the most common cause of death, which accounts for 47% of all lethal outcomes, more than 900 thousand people died from these diseases. Out of all cardiovascular diseases, a larger proportion falls on coronary heart disease and arterial hypertension with its complications – myocardial infarctions and strokes. Among psychosomatic disorders, cardiovascular diseases are the most common. Moreover, mainly people who tend to constantly experience tension and negative emotions suffer from them. In “optimistic” people, these disorders are much less common. In the literature, two polar beliefs regarding psychosomatics can be found. Some believe that many health problems are associated with mental disorders, while the majority are sure that no negative emotions can be the cause of physical disorders in the human body.

Encounters with interior spaces are influenced by past experiences and state of mind. Much of how architecture is experienced therefore is not readily apparent and is sensed rather than seen. Psyche impacts this experience of lived space, from an individual’s awareness of themselves within it, to the perception of space itself. Film offers a distinctive representation of this subjective experience through its narrative form and command of visual, audio and temporal language. The emotive and visceral power of film render it an accessible and immersive medium, and as such make it uniquely placed to communicate less tangible qualities of space and character. This paper analyses the use of interior space in the film Joker (Todd Phillips, 2019). The acutely intimate discernment of the protagonist’s interior environment is the result of environmental and psychological disruption, where boundaries break down between the real and imaginary, and the surreal intrudes upon the tangible depiction of the interior. The exposition of the character’s damaged psyche within space is analysed at key points within the narrative, using collage as an exploratory, visual methodology to analyse and experiment with, to potentially reveal the less perceivable, yet invasive intangible layers of lived space. This article addresses the frequent oversight of psychological qualities of the interior in architectural discourse, through an analytical and experimental method rendering the psychological content of space visible. Defining this intangible nature of architecture as the psychosphere (or the psychological atmosphere), I term this technique the ‘psychospheric collage method’. The process consists of interrogating expressive film language and content through an architectural lens documented through sketching, storyboarding and textual enquiry. From these fragmented components I compose a new visual language capable of signifying the layered psychological atmosphere in which a character resides, thus facilitating its consideration within architectural design and enabling articulation of our intimate encounter with the interior.

This paper proposes a new approach to the concept of psychopoetics, i.e., the psychological treatment of poetical writing based on its relationship with the psyche on the one hand, and the world on the other. This approach discerns an allegorical relation between the cosmos and the soul, which goes back to Freud’s idea that the soul treats impressions from the outside as differences from a symbolic relation between the universe and the psyche. This method was developed by Jung in order to look for correspondences between the inside of the human being and the context. Symbolical psychopoetics is exemplified with Vera Pavlova’s 2018 anthology of poetry and prose Proverochnoe slovo (Control Word). The anthology consists of poetical cycles and prose passages, which in different ways imagine the relation between the soul and the world.

Introduction. This paper considers madness as a metahistorical category of culture as well as an excluded language in Western European culture that exists despite the language code. To determine the status of madness in the contemporary philosophy the author analyses the way it functions in the discourse of “the other”. Theoretical analysis. The exclusion of madness from the context of philosophical research occurred due to such various markers changing from era to era as a lie, delusion, nonsense, buff oonery, and fi nally the dysfunction of the mind completed by Pinel’s reform. The defi nition of madness as a forbidden language comes from two theses: 1) mental disorders result from biological, not socio-psychological problems; 2) madness and a mental disorder are not two diff erent confi gurations, they have organic nature that is to be neutralized in terms of pharmacology and defi ned in terms of behavioral deviations, and that excludes subjective and nonphysical suff ering. Conclusion. The research relevance is obvious because modern aesthetics and philosophy with the cultural model of insanity as a core concept need further elaborating. The duality of the subject of psychiatry concerning the human personality implies that this component must be taken into account apart from exclusively natural-scientifi c studies.

Spinoza regarded life as an active play of affects, and human freedom as the taming of passions by means of the concepts of reason. Following him, Lev Vygotsky treats affect as the alpha and omega of mental development. The key theme of Vygotsky’s last manuscripts is the same as in Spinoza’s Ethics: man’s path to freedom via the reasonable mastery of his affects. Vygotsky defines freedom as the affect in the concept; in the last years of his life, he investigates the processes of synthesis of emotional and intellectual forms in a child’s psychical development. Following Spinoza, Vygotsky defines affect as a dynamogenic state of the body, increasing or decreasing its capacity for action. Thus, affect acts as the intrinsic driving force behind the behaviour of all living beings. In the Spinozist view, psychology is the science about production of affects in the process of objectoriented activity and about exchange of affects in the process of communication of living beings. Vygotsky did not have time to carry out his project of the new psychology of man, and his successors refused or failed to continue this work. Aleksey Leontiev, Vygotsky’s closest disciple and associate, denounced his turn to Spinoza and returned to the phenomenological treatment of affect as a form of experiencing activity. As a consequence, Vygotsky’s problem of the relation between affect and intellect proved to be unsolvable. The philosopher Evald Ilyenkov, who adhered to the Vygotsky school, linked the beginning of psychical activity to the formation of images of the external world, losing sight of affect and, thus, of the problem of freedom as understood by Spinoza. Resuming of L. S. Vygotsky’s height psychology project and studying the evolution of the psyche, based on the concept of freedom as the active mastery of human affects and communication relationships, form two growth points of cultural-historical psychology.

In our dialogues over the nature of archetypes, essence, psyche, and world, I further respond to Erik Goodwyn's recent foray into establishing an ontological position that not only answers to the mind-body problem, but further locates the source of Psyche on a cosmic plane. His impressive attempt to launch a neo-Jungian metaphysics is based on the principle of cosmic panpsychism that bridges both the internal parameters of archetypal process and their emergence in consciousness and the external world conditioned by a psychic universe. Here I explore the ontology of experience, mind, matter, metaphysical realism, and critique Goodwyn's turn to Neoplatonism. The result is a potentially compatible theory of mind and reality that grounds archetypal theory in onto-phenomenology, metaphysics, and bioscience, hence facilitating new directions in analytical psychology. The NASA Psyche mission will explore the structure, composition, and other properties of asteroid (16) Psyche to test hypotheses about its formation. Variations in radar reflectivity, density, thermal inertia, and visible to near‐infrared (VNIR) reflectance spectra of Psyche suggest a highly metallic composition with mafic silicate minerals (e.g., pyroxene) heterogeneously distributed on the surface in low abundance (<10 vol.%). The Psyche spacecraft's Multispectral Imager is designed to map ≥80% of the surface at high spatial resolution (≤20 m/pixel) through a panchromatic filter and provide compositional information for about ≥80% of the surface using seven narrowband filters at VNIR wavelengths (∼400–1,100 nm) and at spatial scales of ≤500 m/pixel. We analyzed 359 reflectance spectra from samples consistent with current uncertainties in Psyche's composition and compared them to published reflectance spectra of the asteroid using a chi‐square test for goodness of fit. The best matches for Psyche include iron meteorite powder, powders from the sulfide minerals troilite and pentlandite, and powder from the CH/CBb chondrite Isheyevo. Comparison of absorption features support the interpretation that Psyche's surface is a metal‐silicate mixture, although the exact abundance and chemistry of the silicate component remains poorly constrained. We convolve our spectra to the Imager's spectral throughput to demonstrate preliminary strategies for mapping the surface composition of the asteroid using filter ratios and reconstructed band parameters. Our results provide predictions of the kinds of surface compositional information that the Psyche mission could reveal on the solar system's largest M‐type asteroid. Plain Language Summary: Current observations of the asteroid (16) Psyche suggest it to be metal‐rich, but not entirely made of metal. We compared reflected light from a wide variety of Psyche‐relevant materials to measurements of reflected light from the asteroid. This analysis confirms that Psyche's composition could be less metal‐rich than previously thought. Other materials with reflectance properties similar to Psyche are metal‐rich carbonaceous chondrites and sulfide minerals. We show how an instrument on the Psyche spacecraft, which will study the asteroid in detail, can resolve some uncertainties about the surface composition of the asteroid. Trauma studies are no doubt a burgeoning area of discourse that has captured the literary imagination of academic scholars for a few decades running. This study examines the complex relationship between socio-cultural influences and intimate personal relations portrayed in trauma fiction, such as Helon Habila's Oil on Water. Specifically, how do these depictions in Habila's fiction direct our awareness of the catastrophic effects of war, poverty, hostage-taking, and domestic abuse on the individual psyche? How do traumatised people respond? To what extent can we theorise trauma studies and ecocritical studies? How traumatised is the physical landscape portrayed in Habila's fiction? The study concludes by insisting that governments of nations and relevant international organisations owe the people the responsibility of intentionally committing to rearticulating and rehabilitating the social conditions, voices, and, indeed, the lives of marginalised people. The discussions on conceptualization, operationalization, measures, and means of well-being (WB) and personal excellence (PE) are dynamic and debatable. Therefore, this study aims to coin a perspective of PE based on the Patanjali Yoga Sūtra (PYS). For this, professional, psychological, philosophical, and yogic perspectives of WB and PE are analyzed to derive a viable yogic framework for PE. The WB and the consciousness-based constructs of PE are discussed in terms of psychic tensions (PTs) (nescience, egoism, attachment, aversion, and love for life), yogic hindrances (YHs) (illness, apathy, doubt, procrastination, laziness, over somatosensory indulgence, delusion, inability, and unstable progress), psychosomatic impairments (pain, despair, tremors, arrhythmic breath), and yogic aids (wellness, intrinsic motivation, faith, role punctuality, physical activity, sensory control, clarity, competence, and sustainable progress). The PYS operationalizes PE as the dynamic level of WB and self-awareness until one attains Dharmamegha Samādhi (super consciousness). Lastly, Ashtanga Yoga (AY) is discussed as a universal principle, process, and practice for thinning PTs, vanishing YHs, empowering holistic WB, awakening extrasensory potentials, advancing self-awareness, and PE. This study will be a pioneering base for further observational and interventional studies to develop measures and personalized protocols for PE.

Androgyny as the idea of unity and wholeness appears in the thought of Gaston Bachelard in the context of a poetic dream. It is in it, as we learn from “Poetics of Dreams”, that the reconciliation of anima and animus, female and male in one psyche takes place. The anima dream is called by the French philosopher the philosophy of androgynous existence, which shows us a double idealization of humanity. The anima and animus, confirming the androgyny of the psyche, are Self-moments. This dual nature of mental being is expressed through two antagonisms represented by the function of reality (adaptation to reality and social life) and the function of irreality (loneliness of dreams); supervised thought (criticism, censorship) and free dreaming (liking, acceptance, attachment); work (effort) and rest (relaxation); anxiety (project, anticipation) and peace (presence in oneself) - especially around the duality that crystallizes in the distinction between the scientific mind (l'esprit scientifique) under the sign of the animus (concepts, knowledge) and the poetic mind (l'esprit poetique) anima (images, communion of souls). Androgyny, understood as the integral life of the psyche, is for Bachelard perspective and valuable, and he identifies attempts to seek it with the question of the meaning of human existence. The study of the dream shows its fundamental importance for the balance of the psyche. The power of images understood in this way then creates the art of living. In this sense, Bachelard becomes a precursor of a new perspective in the field of reflection on the issue of the image - it turns out that the image is responsible for the relationship between man and the world.

Drawing on a historical ethnography of how Brazil's post-dictatorial psychiatric reforms have shaped young people's lives, this paper builds on Eve Sedgwick's analysis of the hermeneutics of suspicion to show that narrow applications of Foucault's biopower concept nurture forms of resistance to bio-reductionism centred primarily on epistemic deconstruction. To unsettle this hermeneutic, I put young people's theories of power into conversation with Georges Canguilhem's concept of the milieu and with feminist scholars' work on prefigurative politics. I introduce the concepts of threading and unthreading to consider how one subject of biopower, the child-like biobehavioural figure, was continuously being threaded within a specific milieu and in relation to another key figure: the elite angst-ridden 'storm-and-stress' adolescent. Young people's subsequent unthreading and reweaving politics, flourishing in co-construction with what I call the politicizing clinic, illustrate how decolonial pedagogies can incrementally change the patterning of social life. Through the study of myth, we recognize our shared humanity and the particularities that inform a life. As a depth psychotherapist, I come to archetypal stories with expectancy, hoping to re-cognize myself and my clients within the action of the other. The Biblical story of Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25-35) offers the scholar boundless opportunity for theological, ethical and historical analysis. However, this story of familial relationships requires of me a different kind of telling. This essay is intended not as a scholarly examination of a myth, but rather as a mythic exploration of self. Using Jacob as my guide, I will explore how the archetypal movements of longing, envy and love; deception, separation and reconciliation inform and reveal underlying themes within my life story, and in particular, how my relationship with my father determined much of the course of my life. Chudamani is one of the inconspicuous writers in Indian literature who is gradually gaining prominence in the recent past. Chudamani's works are powerful and sensitive unveiling the reality of human beings in society and their psychological aspects. This research article aims to analyse a novella and three short stories of R. Chudamani and inquires about the human emotions especially fear portrayed in those stories. The major focus of the article is on the novella, Yamini, and the minor focus is on the three short stories: "A Knock at the Door", "The Strands of the Void" and "Drought". Yamini is the story of a girl Yamini, who is forced into the institution of marriage. "A Knock at the Door" is the narrative of two widows who safeguard their sister's son from his father. "The Strands of the Void" explores the system of dowry in Indian society. "Drought" is the story of a married woman who tries to escape from the torments of her husband. This paper also scrutinizes the fear in the protagonists and the central characters in the above works. It also inspects how fear transmogrifies the characters in different situations. This review summarizes the aetiology, the species and the prevalence of pathoethological processes of psychic nature in sheltered dogs. The analysis was performed on the mandatory necessity of establishing the type of the dog’s temperament, in relation to the owners’ proper approach towards the specific animal, as well as its successful primary and secondary socialisation. A neurotic dog may exhibit chronic anxiety, fear, hyperactivity, obsessive behaviour, and inappropriate responses to stimuli. Truly psychotic dogs, however, are deranged. Their behaviour is acute and unpredictable.

The current paper aims to provide the venue to the spiritual insights of Ghazalian thought to be integrated into the study of Freudian psychoanalysis. The study has adopted descriptive and analytical approach to make a comparative analysis of Ghazalian concept of nafs e lawwamma and Freudian superego. Zepetnek’s (1998) theory of comparative literature has provided the guidelines for an in depth analysis of both the models. This analytical approach may lead to an alternative critical agenda for the better understanding of human psyche. Moreover, the present study emanates from the assumption that though Freudian psychoanalytic theory has provided insightful psychological considerations, equally appropriate readings will possibly result from analyzing Ghazalian theory of soul. Simultaneously, it is also hoped that the insights yielded by this research study may open new panoramas for the study of human nature.
