In this article, we present an overview of European workplace innovation policy, theory, research and practice. In our review, we will first highlight the ways in which different policy, theory, empirical, and practical approaches to workplace innovation diverge and converge. Second, we will outline some potential future avenues for the field of workplace innovation to move towards greater convergence in terms of policy, theory, research and practice. We will insist specifically on showing how a closer integration between policy, research and practice could address some of the major barriers to workplace innovation adoption in national, regional and EU policy as well as in organizations.

A study ordered by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (Labor Inspectorate) to optionalize the well-being section in the Dutch Working Environment Act.

Patterns of complaints of VDU operators have been studied in relation to work organization, workplace ergonomics and operators' eye quality. Host subjects worked on data entry and word processing. The percentage of working day with VDU (VDUTIME) varied widely among subjects. The relations found were generally weak. Eye fatigue appeared to be related to eye quality and to visual ergonomics. Musculo-skeletal complaints were related to postural ergonomics. An interactive relation was found between health complaints on the one hand and VDUTIME and the work pressure and work atmosphere experienced on the other. Operators' satisfaction with ergonomic features often correlated reasonably with our quality assessments. Many operators want more work variation and miss opportunity for choice in their VDU tasks.
