The aim of this study was to examine the effect of weft yarn parameters on the elasticity and recovery properties of stretch denim fabrics. For this purpose, frequently used denim fabric was taken as a reference point, and to study the elasticity, and dimensional change properties of the reference fabric, the production of new denim fabrics was designed with the use of different core yarns in the weft direction with different ratios. As a result, five different denim fabrics containing three different weft yarns with different sequences in Twill 3/1 Z weave type were produced. All fabric samples were prepared as half legs form and rinse washing, stone washing and stone+bleaching washing processes were applied. Elasticity, residual extension, and dimensional stability tests of the samples were performed, and the results were analyzed regarding the weft yarn properties and finishing processes. In addition to these tests, mass per unit area was examined to observe the weight changes of the fabrics due to shrinkage after washing. All tests were evaluated statistically. According to the analysis, it was found that the fabric performance was affected by the weft yarn type, and the different washing processes.

Luxury fibers are used for their tactile properties, comfortable feeling for the users, and sometimes for status in society. These fibers are all protein-based and have always been compared to the properties of wool. Cashmere is known for its incredibly soft and warm yet lightweight and breathable qualities, making it a must-have fabric for any fall and winter closet. Besides labored and time-wasting cashmere production makes the fiber very expensive. Yak fiber is an alternative to expensive cashmere with similar properties, which costs only a quarter of cashmere. In this study, air and water vapor permeability properties, which are important for consumer comfort were investigated in addition to handle properties of the fabrics compared with the properties of the fabrics made of wool fibers. It was found that yarns made of wool fibers were easy to spin in fine yarn counts whereas yarns made of yak fibers were the coarsest. Hand-knitted fabrics made of cashmere fibers had the softest feeling even if the fabrics were produced with similar technical specifications. The permeability results of the fabrics were different, especially the porosity of the fabrics had a higher impact on the permeability of the fabrics.

In this study, dyeing effects on the physical properties of blended fabrics containing different ratios of wool and mohair fibers were investigated in detail. Six types of fabrics were produced by using 100% wool yarns and 100% mohair yarns separately in either direction with different sequences. Then the fabrics were dyed with a wool reactive dye and physical properties were investigated before and after dyeing process. As a result of the study, wool/mohair blended fabrics could be used in the lightweight suitings since adding mohair in the fabric composition made the fabrics stiffer, less drapeable, more air permeable. Another important finding was that the color yield values of both front and back sides of the 50/50% blended fabrics were found to be quite close. From this point of view, if wool and mohair yarns were used symmetrically in the fabric structure, it would be possible to dye blended fabric uniformly in one bath. Otherwise, in case of weaving fabrics according to various designs using wool and mohair yarns separately in either direction unsymmetrically, two different tones could be obtained on the same fabric, known as a bicolor effect.

In this study 34 heads of Karacabey Merino sheep wools raised in various farms located around Tekirdağ province, Turkey were investigated. Physical wool properties such as fiber fineness, length, strength, elongation, and greasy fleece weight were examined. Samples were collected during the shearing of the animals. Samples from three different regions such as head-neck, middle, and back from each animal were taken. According to the fiber fineness and strength results, all investigated factors were found to be statistically important. It can be said that fibers from the rams and the back region of the animal were coarser and stronger. Accordingly, it was observed that coarser fibers (fibers from males or from sheep with age range of 0–2) have lower elongation at break values in general. Furthermore, for fiber length only the factor age was statistically significant. On the other hand, greasy fleece weight increased with the increase in animal age and it was higher for rams than that of ewes.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of pigmentation on the physical and mechanical properties of white and brown colored cashmere and yak down fibers in comparison with wool. According to experimental results, it was found that the pigmented fibers have higher diameter and length compared to their white equivalents. However, tenacity and elongation values were lower in pigmented fibers. On the other hand, it can be said that brown fibers had lower felting tendency compared to white fibers.

In this study, the effect of using silk or alpaca weft yarns on fabric properties and dyeing behavior in the production of woollen woven fabrics was investigated. Therefore, three different fabric types with two different weft densities were produced, and the mass per unit area, tensile strength, comfort properties, such as air permeability and water vapor permeability have been tested. The fabrics were then dyed with reactive dyestuffs recommended for wool, and the color (color yield (K/S) and CIEL*a*b*) and fastness (washing and light) properties of the fabrics after dyeing were compared. The results of the permeability measurements showed that based on the fiber type used to produce woven fabrics affected these properties. However, the most attractive result was obtained in the dyeing of silk containing woollen fabrics. It was observed that in case of weaving fabrics according to various designs using wool and silk in weft and warp yarns separately, two different tones can be obtained on the same fabric, that is, a bicolor effect.
