Summary: As global protein demand surges, it is urgent to explore novel protein sources and develop advanced extraction technologies that can surpass the technological and scientific limitations of conventional methods. This systematic review summarises the emerging protein sources and sustainable protein extraction techniques, focusing on their role in enhancing food system sustainability. This article consolidates current research on novel extraction techniques, such as ultrasound‐assisted extraction, pulsed electric field‐based extraction, enzyme‐assisted extraction, subcritical water extraction and extraction using eutectic solvents, particularly from agro‐industrial by‐products. These methods assist in optimising protein recovery while aligning with circular economy principles by minimising waste and resource use. By evaluating the sustainability and practicality of these extraction methods, the article aims to guide future innovations and policy decisions, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient global food system. Summary: Foodomics is an omic technique that integrates with the study of food and nutrition. The technique delves into the composition, functions, and expression outcomes of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, shedding light on how nutrients influence gene and protein expression. It enables the understanding of cellular processes, functional mechanisms, and molecules involved and identifies targets for bioactive compounds desirable for nutritional intervention strategies. It also facilitates the discovery of biomarkers that elucidate the bioactivities of various food components, offering insights into their implications for individual well‐being. Furthermore, due to the molecular interplay between food and gut microbiome, this technique offered a comprehensive understanding of nutritional dynamics and the role of nutrients in maintaining optimal health. Hence, the article highlights the recent research that deciphers the bioactive activities of various food components, shedding insight on their consequences for individual well‐being and intricating the balance of the gut microbiota using this omic technique. Summary: Pulses are inexpensive and eco‐friendly source of biologically active proteins/peptides exhibiting antioxidative and antimicrobial properties. The antimicrobial activity of pulse proteins/peptides is ascribed to their ability to interact with components of bacterial/fungal cells or viral‐envelope, while antioxidative effects are the result of absorption/scavenging of free radicals and reactive oxygen species, which depend on amino acid composition/sequence, hydrophobicity and molecular mass and vary with multiple factors, including, protein source, hydrolysing enzyme and conditions employed for hydrolysis. Pulse proteins also are useful for quality improvement of gluten‐free (GF) foods to fulfil the increasing demand not only of safe and nutritious but also of acceptable products for people with gluten‐related disorders. They contribute technological and sensory quality to GF baked products through providing lysine and improving hydration, viscoelasticity and gas retention, though the production of GF products with quality comparative to wheat‐based baked products is challenging. The inclusion of pulse proteins in pastas and noodles reduces their glycaemic index and improves textural and cooking properties. Also, pulse proteins were found to be comparable with animal proteins in enhancing exercise capacity and athletic performance; hence, these may be considered suitable in developing health‐promoting plant‐based athletic foods. The purpose of the present study was to compare and investigate the relation between the scores in the Training Stress Scale, Reboundability Subscale and Psychomotor Performance as assessed by the Motor Performance Series in the Vienna Test System. The total of 100 athletes (65 males, 35 females) from various sports was divided into three stress groups: High Stress Group (HSG), Moderate Stress Group (MSG), and Low Stress Group (LSG) according to the Training Stress Scale scores. One-way ANOVA indicated a significant difference among the three groups for the Training Stress Scale (p<0.001), Reboundability (Resilience) Subscale (p<0.001), and various parameters of psychomotor performance. The study concluded that the athletes' resilience (reboundalibity) to mistakes decreased with increasing stress levels. Also, the HSG showed poor psychomotor performance in the Motor Performance Series. However, optimal stress levels and proper physiological and psychological training can counteract the negative effects of training and non-training stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neurofeedback is an effective tool in sports psychology to train athletes to enhance performance levels. Archery players are required to concentrate on accuracy during archery performances, which tends to be attained by a peak sensory motor rhythm of the electroencephalography component. The selected subjects of university level archery players have intervened with neurofeedback for four weeks. Measurements were taken to find the effect of neurofeedback training (NFT) on heart rate deceleration, precompetition pleasure level, post-competition pleasure level, pre-competition arousal level, post-competition arousal level, performance level, precision, sensory motor rhthm (SMR)/ theta ratio and SMR epoch mean of archers during competition. Statistical analysis reveals that pre-competition pleasure level (p< 0.05), pre-competition arousal level (p< 0.05), post-competition arousal level (p< 0.01) and SMR/ theta ratio (p< 0.05) showed statistically significant changes [deleted after the effective twelve sessions of SMR neurofeedback training] in the experimental group but not the control group. After twelve sessions of NFT training the experimental group archers were able to regulate the psychological status and EEG components during archery performance. The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the relationship between the training logs, Mental and Physical State Scales (MAPSS), Athletic Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ), CSAI-2 and the eye hand coordination as assessed by the Double Labyrinthine Test on Vienna Test System (VTS). Total of 100 athletes (65 males, 35 females) were grouped in three risk groups (high risk group, moderate risk group and low risk group) according to MAPSS scores. One way ANOVA analysis indicated a significant intergroup difference among the three groups for all the parameters at a significance level of p < 0.001. Pearson product moment analysed correlations between various parameters. The study concludes that as the training distress and training load among athletes' increases, the burnout risk and anxiety level increases, however the self confidence level reduces which proves to be detrimental to the psychomotor performance as measured by eye hand coordination test. Role of sports vision and eye hand coordination training in performance of table tennis players. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity, v. 5, n. 2, p. 106-116, 2011. Successful performance in interceptive tasks depends upon the acquisition of visual information about the approaching object. The present study therefore evaluated the effects of sports vision and eye hand coordination training on sensory and motor performance of table tennis players. 45 University level table tennis players were randomly divided into 3 equal groups of n=15. The experimental group underwent 8 weeks of sports vision and eye hand co-ordination training. The placebo group read articles pertaining to sports performance and watched televised table tennis matches, while the control group followed only routine practice sessions for 8 weeks. Measures of visual function and motor performance were obtained from all participants before and immediately after 8 weeks of training. Statistically significant pre to post training differences were evident by better improvement in visual variables and motor performance for the experimental group as compared to placebo and control. The present study therefore concluded that visual training program improves the basic visual skills, which in turn are transferable into sports specific performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
