Variation of PreMonsoon Temperature Over Eastern India and the Solar Activity

Deprotonation constants (peoon and pdo2NH) of the ligands and formation constants of the complexes at 25 ± 10 in aqueous solution, I = 0.2 M (NaNO3), are correlated with the modes of coordination of the amide and sulfonamide groups, size of the chelate rings, and metal-ligand and ligand-ligand it-interactions. Deprotonation constants of coordinated H2O molecules in the square-planar, or distorted octahedral Cu(H-1A)(H20)- complexes indicate their equatorial disposition. The tendency of the ternary hydroxo complexes, Cu(H_IA)(OH)2- to transform into to Cu(H_IA)t with precipitation of Cu(OH)2 at pH >9 is found to be in the inverse order of stability constants of these complexes. &nbsp

Kolkata-700 009, India E-mail : gurunath@cucc er net 111 Fax : 91-33-2413222/-3519755 Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Works, Kolkata-700 009, India Manuscript received 24 Novembe1 2000 Potentiometric Investigation on the complex fo1 mationequihbria of ( u11 with N-benzenesulfonyl derivatives of some dipeptides, viz glycylglycine, glvcy 1-β-alanine and β-alanylglycine, hercaltur, abbreviated as NBSGG, NBSGB Jnd NBSBG (AH2) respectively, 1n the presence of typical secondary ligands, viz acetate (ac-), 2-methylbenzimidazone (bz), glycineto(gly-) and bipyridine (bipy), hereatfter, B, provides evidencee of formation of varietiecs of binary and ternary complexes of the types Cu(AH), Cu(H 1AH), Cu(H 1A), Cu(H_1A)(OH), Cu(B), Cu(B), Cu(B),(AH) and Cu(B)(H 1AH) and Cu(B)(H 1A)Stabilihty constants ofthe complexes Jt 25 ± 10, in aqueous solution at aconstant ionic strength, I= 0 1M (NaNO3) have been determined and the complex formation equihbria elucidated on the basis' of spectation curves the sulfonamidodipeptuide ligands ( A H2) provide three coordinatinggroups -COOH, -CONH-, and -SO2NH-, and showambidentism in forming the binary and the ternary complexes depending upon the denticity, ᶷ-basicity and ᶮ-acidity of the B-ligands the ternary complexes are found to be Stable in the intermediate pH range (5-8) Above pH 8, the mixed ligand complexes derived from all the AH2and B ligands decompose to produce either the fully deprotonated binary complexes, Cu(H 1A)- or the ternary hydroxo complexes Cu(H 1A)(OH) 2depending upon the nature of the B ligands.

Incidence of malaria in troops carrying out counter-insurgency operation in thick jungles in North East region was compared for the year 1995 and 1996. Since troops were on constant move in thick jungles in hostile environment and they have to sleep and rest outdoor, use of mosquito net was not feasible in both years. Counter-insurgency operation lasted for two and half months in both the years from last week of March - 1st week of June. Inspite of troops being on 300mg chloroquine (base) per week as chemoprophylaxis, 40 cases (5%) of malaria were observed in troops in the year 1995. During the year 1996 troops were advised to take 600mg chloroquine (base) per week as chemoprophylaxis. Three cases (0.40%) of malaria were observed during the year 1996. Difference was found to be statistically significant.

Fifty five Armed Forces personnel detected to be seropositives for human immunodeficiency virus were the subjects of the study. After baseline clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations and Centre for Disease Control classification, through a semistructured interview, their sexual orientation, behaviour and psychiatric morbidity were assessed. Sixtynine percent had another sexually transmitted disease as comorbidity. Heterosexual contact was responsible for the infection in 54 out of 55 subjects. Seven patients were freshly diagnosed to have psychiatric illness.

A rare case of viral encephalitis in an 18 year old recruit who presented with signs of catatonic schizophrenia is reported.

The ceruloplasmin concentration was determined in 145 cancer patients prior to and after treatment with different radiotherapeutic and chemotherapeutic regimes. The ceruloplasmin concentration was observed to be higher in patients with malignancies than in healthy controls. There was a positive correlation of the values with the clinical condition of the patients. The ceruloplasmin concentration was noted to stop increasing and subsequently fall in patients who responded to therapy, and, in contrast, to remain high or become higher in those who did not respond to therapy. The diagnostic and prognostic value of ceruloplasmin determination is discussed.

Proton -ligand and Cull -ligand constants determined by pH-metric method at 30° In 50% (v/v) aqueous ethanol medium. I=0.2 mol dm-2(NaNO3 ) were correlated with the inodes of bonding of the ligands, labilisation of the amide (NHCO) proton in BMA by the adjacent C=C bond and intramolecular hydrophobic interaction.

Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur 721 302 1-AryI-5,5-dimethyl-3-oxocyclohexenes easily available by the reaction of arrimoenesium bromide with 5,5-dimethyl-3-ethosycyclohex-2-en-l-one (enol ether of dimedone) afford hydroaromatic ketones containing thiophene ring on being heated with sulphur. The method constitutes a simple and convenient route to bydrohenzonaphthothiophene derivatives which are known to possess interesting physiological properties.
