Background: Myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) and exercise electrocardiography (Ex‐ECG) results are of prognostic importance for short‐term follow up duration. However, the value of MPS or Ex‐ECG findings for long‐term risk assessment is less evident as underlying risk factors for ischemic heart disease (IHD) gain in importance. Objectives: To assess the short‐ and long‐term prognostic value of MPS and Ex‐ECG in relation to known risk factors. Methods and Materials: An observational study of 908 patients (age 63 years, 49% male, 45% prior IHD) referred for MPS and Ex‐ECG. Follow‐up was divided into two periods (short‐term: <5 years and long‐term: >5 years). Cardiac events were defined as a composite of acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, unplanned revascularization and cardiovascular death. Results: The composite endpoint occurred in 95 patients (short‐term follow up) and in 94 patients (long‐term follow up). In multivariable models stress testing had a strong predictive value for short‐term follow up (HR for MPS = 2.9, CI = 1.9–4.5, p < 0.001 and HR for Ex‐ECG = 2.1, CI 1.3–3.3, p = 0.002), but no predictive value for long‐term follow up (HR for MPS = 0.9, CI = 0.5–1.5, p = 0.70 and HR for Ex‐ECG = 1.0, CI = 0.6–1.6, p = 0.92). Male sex and prior IHD were significant predictors regardless of follow up duration. Age, diabetes and decreased exercise capacity were risk factors for long‐term follow up. Conclusions: The prognostic value of MPS and Ex‐ECG results are strong for short‐term follow up but diminish over time and do not contribute significantly in multivariable models after 5 years. Summary: Background: Right ventricular (RV) systolic function is an important determinant of outcome in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). Conventional echocardiographic measures of RV are mainly based on longitudinal contractility. Recently, measurement of RV global longitudinal strain derived from multiple windows (RVGLS) has emerged as an option but has not been well evaluated. The aim of the present study was to evaluate which echocardiographic RV function parameter correlates best with RV ejection fraction derived from cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (RVEFCMR). Methods and results: Fifty‐five patients evaluated for PH underwent RV assessment with echocardiography and CMR. Conventional echocardiographic parameters of RV function including tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), tricuspid annular systolic velocity (S′), RV fractional area change (RVFAC) and RV index of myocardial performance (RIMP). RVGLS was measured from three separate apical views using a 17‐segment model and strain from the lateral free wall was calculated separately (RVfree). The study included 55 patients, whereas assessment of RVGLS could be obtained in 29 patients. The Pearson correlation coefficient with RVEFCMR was strong for RVGLS (r = 0·814, P<0·001) and RVfree (r = 0·778, P<0·001), modest for RVFAC (r = 0·681, P<0·001), TAPSE (r = 0·592, P<0·001) and RIMP (r=−0·521, P<0·01), and weak for S′ (r = 0·385, P<0·01). Conclusion: The echocardiographic RV measures, RVGLS and RVfree correlated well with RVEFCMR, whereas correlation with TAPSE, RIMP and S′ was unsatisfactory. Our findings suggest that RVGLS and RVfree are the preferred echocardiographic methods for clinical practice. Background: Real-time (RT) phase contrast (PC) flow MRI can potentially be used to measure blood flow in arrhythmic patients. Undersampled RT PC has been combined with online compressed sensing (CS) reconstruction (CS RT) enabling clinical use. However, CS RT flow has not been validated in a clinical setting., Purpose: Evaluate CS RT in phantom and patients., Study Type: Prospective., Population: Flow phantom (60 cycles/min: N = 10, 120 cycles/min: N = 12), sinus rhythm patients, no regurgitation (N = 20) or suspected aortic regurgitation (N = 10), arrhythmia patients (N = 10)., Field Strength/sequence: 1.5 T, 2D gated PC, CS RT PC, RT cine with arrhythmia rejection., Assessment: Phantom experiments tested the accuracy of CS RT cardiac output and peak flow rate at 60 and 120 cycles/min against gated PC. For sinus rhythm patients, cardiac output, peak flow rate, and regurgitation fraction in the ascending aorta and/or pulmonary artery were evaluated against gated PC. Cardiac output in patients with arrythmia was evaluated against RT cine with arrhythmia rejection., Statistical Tests: Bland Altman, correlation, Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test., Results: Cardiac output bias ± SD for CS RT in the phantom was -0.0 ± 0.2 L/min (0.5 ± 3%, P = 0.76) at 60 cycles/min and 0.2 ± 0.3 L/min (4 ± 4%, P = 0.0016) at 120 cycles/min. Correspondingly, peak flow rate bias was -23 ± 6 mL/s (-7 ± 2%, P < 0.0001) and -73 ± 25 mL/s (-23 ± 4%, P < 0.0001). In patients, regurgitant fraction was -4 ± 0.5% (-23 ± 4%, P = 0.0025). Cardiac output bias in patients in sinus rhythm was -0.1 ± 0.5 L/min (-2 ± 10%, P = 0.99) (with regurgitation) and -0.3 ± 0.6 L/min (-5 ± 11%, P = 0.035) (without regurgitation). Peak flow rate bias was -60 ± 31 mL/s (-13 ± 6%, P < 0.0001) (with regurgitation) and -64 ± 32 mL/s (-16 ± 8%, P < 0.0001) (without regurgitation). Aims: Right ventricular (RV) failure causes high mortality in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). RV stroke work index (RVSWi) poses as a potential predictor of outcome. We evaluated how RVSWi by echocardiography (ECHO) or right heart catheterization (RHC) is altered following PAH treatment and if RVSWi is an indicator of outcome in PAH., Methods and Results: Fifty-four patients with PAH performed ECHO and RHC (median, 0 days between examinations) at baseline and treatment follow-up. RVSWi RHC was computed as (mPAP-mRAP)×SVi RHC , (mPAP, mean pulmonary arterial pressure; mRAP, mean right atrial pressure; SVi, stroke volume indexed to body surface area). ECHO-derived RVSWi was calculated as RVSWi ECHO-Mean = TR mean PG × SVi ECHO and RVSWi ECHO-Max = TR max PG × SVi ECHO (TR mean PG and TR max PG: tricuspid regurgitant mean and maximum pressure gradient). Invasive sPAP, mPAP, and pulmonary vascular resistance decreased and SVi increased from baseline to follow-up ( P < 0.01 for all). RVSWi RHC and RVSWi ECHO (Mean and Max) did not differ from baseline to follow-up ( P > 0.05). Forty patients died during 109 ± 24 months. In univariate Cox proportional hazard analysis, age > 65 years, 6-minute-walk test < 160 m, WHO class III-IV and indexed right atrial volume were associated with long-term mortality, but none of the RVSWi methods. In multivariate analysis with clinical parameters, both RVSWi ECHO methods were independently associated with mortality., Conclusion: The RVSWi methods did not differ from baseline to short-term follow-up and were not associated with long-term outcomes in univariate analysis. Aims: Men are more likely to suffer a myocardial infarction than women, but population-based studies on sex differences in imaging-detected atherosclerosis are lacking. The aims were to assess sex differences in the prevalence of imaging-detected coronary and carotid atherosclerosis, as well as multivariable adjusted associations between sex and atherosclerosis., Methods and Results: Participants aged 50-65, recruited from the general population to the Swedish Cardiopulmonary bioImage Study (SCAPIS), were included in this population-based cross-sectional study. Comprehensive diagnostics, including coronary computed tomography angiography and carotid ultrasound, were performed. The image findings were any coronary atherosclerosis, coronary stenosis ≥ 50%, segment involvement score (SIS) ≥ 4, coronary artery calcium score (CACS) > 100, and any ultrasound-detected carotid plaque. In 25 580 participants (50% women), men had more hypertension (20.3% vs. 17.0%), hyperlipidaemia (9.0% vs. 5.5%), and diabetes (8.5% vs. 4.7%). The prevalence was 56.2% vs. 29.5% for any coronary atherosclerosis (P < 0.01), 9.0% vs. 2.3% for coronary stenosis ≥ 50% (P < 0.01), 20.2% vs. 5.3% for SIS ≥ 4 (P < 0.01), 18.2% vs. 5.6% for CACS > 100 (P < 0.01), and 60.9% vs. 48.7% for carotid plaque (P < 0.01), in men vs. women, respectively. Multivariable adjustment only marginally changed these associations: odds ratios (ORs) (95% confidence interval): 2.75 (2.53-2.99) for coronary atherosclerosis, 2.88 (2.40-3.45) for coronary stenosis ≥ 50%, 3.99 (3.50-4.55) for SIS ≥ 4, 3.29 (2.88-3.75) for CACS > 100, and 1.57 (1.45-1.70) for carotid plaque., Conclusion: Men had higher prevalence of imaging-detected carotid and coronary atherosclerosis with prevalence in women aged 65 corresponding to men 11-13 years younger. The pathophysiology underlying impaired LV function in PAH remains unclear, with some studies implicating intrinsic myocardial dysfunction and others pointing to LV underfilling. Evaluation of pulmonary vein area (PVA) and flow may offer novel, mechanistic insight by distinguishing elevated LV filling pressure common in myocardial dysfunction from LV underfilling. This study aimed to elucidate LV filling physiology in PAH by assessing PVA and flow using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and compare pulmonary vein flow in PAH with HFrEF as a model representing elevated filling pressures, in addition to healthy controls. Patients with PAH or heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) referred for CMR were retrospectively reviewed, and healthy controls were included as reference. Pulmonary vein S, D and A-wave were compared between groups. Associations between pulmonary vein area (PVA) by CMR and echocardiographic indices of LV filling pressure were evaluated. Nineteen patients with PAH, 25 with HFrEF and 24 controls were included. Both PAH and HFrEF had lower ejection fraction and S-wave velocity than controls. PAH displayed smaller LV end-diastolic volumes than controls, while HFrEF demonstrated larger PVA and higher A-wave reversal. PVA was associated with mitral E/e' ratio (r 2  = 0.10; p = 0.03), e' velocity (r 2  = 0.23; p = 0.001) and left atrial volume (r 2  = 0.07; p = 0.005). Among PAH, PVA was not associated with LV-GLS. A PVA cut-off of 2.3cm 2 displayed 87% sensitivity and 72% specificity to differentiate HFrEF and PAH (AUC = 0.82). PAH displayed lower pulmonary vein S-wave velocity, smaller LV volume and reduced function compared with controls. Reduced LV function in PAH may be owing to underfilling rather than intrinsic myocardial disease. Background: Quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) first pass perfusion maps are conventionally acquired with 3 short-axis (SAX) views (basal, mid, and apical) in every heartbeat (3SAX/1RR). Thus, a significant part of the left ventricle (LV) myocardium, including the apex, is not covered. The aims of this study were 1) to investigate if perfusion maps acquired with 3 short-axis views sampled every other RR-interval (2RR) yield comparable quantitative measures of myocardial perfusion (MP) as 1RR and 2) to assess if acquiring 3 additional perfusion views (i.e., total of 6) every other RR-interval (2RR) increases diagnostic confidence., Methods: In 287 patients with suspected ischemic heart disease stress and rest MP were performed on clinical indication on a 1.5T MR scanner. Eighty-three patients were examined by acquiring 3 short-axis perfusion maps with 1RR sampling (3SAX/1RR); for which also 2RR maps were reconstructed. Additionally, in 103 patients 3 short-axis and 3 long-axis (LAX; 2-, 3, and 4-chamber view) perfusion maps were acquired using 2RR sampling (3SAX + 3LAX/2RR) and in 101 patients 6 short-axis perfusion maps using 2RR sampling (6SAX/2RR) were acquired. The diagnostic confidence for ruling in or out stress-induced ischemia was scored according to a Likert scale (certain ischemia [2 points], probably ischemia [1 point], uncertain [0 points], probably no ischemia [1 point], certain no ischemia [2 points])., Results: There was a strong correlation (R = 0.99) between 3SAX/1RR and 3SAX/2RR for global MP (mL/min/g). The diagnostic confidence score increased significantly when the number of perfusion views was increased from 3 to 6 (1.24 ± 0.68 vs 1.54 ± 0.64, p < 0.001 with similar increase for 3SAX+3LAX/2RR (1.29 ± 0.68 vs 1.55 ± 0.65, p < 0.001) and for 6SAX/2RR (1.19 ± 0.69 vs 1.53 ± 0.63, p < 0.001)., Conclusion: Quantitative perfusion mapping with 2RR sampling of data yields comparable perfusion values as 1RR sampling, allowing for the acquisition of additional views within the same perfusion scan. The diagnostic confidence for stress-induced ischemia increases when adding 3 additional views, short- or long axes, to the conventional 3 short-axis views. Background: Right ventricular (RV) dyssynchrony or post systolic contraction (PSC) causes inefficient pumping and has not been investigated as a prognostic marker in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The objective was to investigate if RV dyssynchrony and PSC are prognostic markers of transplantation-free survival in PAH and if multiple RV views improve prognostication., Methods: Patients with PAH undergoing cardiovascular magnetic resonance between 2003 and 2021 were included. For strain analysis, endocardial end-diastolic RV contours were delineated in RV three-chamber (RV3ch), four-chamber (4ch), and midventricular short-axis (SAX) slice. RV dyssynchrony was defined as the standard deviation of time to peak strain in the walls from one (4ch), two (4ch and SAX), or three views (4ch, SAX, and RV3ch). PSC was defined as peak strain occurring after pulmonary valve closure. Outcome was defined as death or lung transplantation., Results: One hundred and one patients (58 ± 19 years, 66% (67/101) women) were included. Median follow-up was 37 [51] months. There were 60 events (55 deaths and 5 lung transplantations). Outcome was associated with RV dyssynchrony from three views and with RV strain in 4ch. An increase in RV dyssynchrony-in three views-by 1% was associated with a 10% increased risk of lung transplantation or death. There was no association between outcome and RV dyssynchrony in one or two views nor with PSC., Conclusion: RV dyssynchrony in three views was associated with outcome in PAH, whereas assessing dyssynchrony from one or two views and PSC was not. Objectives: The aim included investigation of the associations between sedentary (SED), low-intensity physical activity (LIPA), moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA (MVPA) and the prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis in both coronaries and carotids and the estimated difference in prevalence by theoretical reallocation of time in different PA behaviours., Design: Cross-sectional., Setting: Multisite study at university hospitals., Participants: A total of 22 670 participants without cardiovascular disease (51% women, 57.4 years, SD 4.3) from the population-based Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage study were included. SED, LIPA and MVPA were assessed by hip-worn accelerometer., Primary and Secondary Outcomes: Any and significant subclinical coronary atherosclerosis (CA), Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS) and carotid atherosclerosis (CarA) were derived from imaging data from coronary CT angiography and carotid ultrasound., Results: High daily SED (>70% ≈10.5 hours/day) associated with a higher OR 1.44 (95% CI 1.09 to 1.91), for significant CA, and with lower OR 0.77 (95% CI 0.63 to 0.95), for significant CarA. High LIPA (>55% ≈8 hours/day) associated with lower OR for significant CA 0.70 (95% CI 0.51 to 0.96), and CACS, 0.71 (95% CI 0.51 to 0.97), but with higher OR for CarA 1.41 (95% CI 1.12 to 1.76). MVPA above reference level, >2% ≈20 min/day, associated with lower OR for significant CA (OR range 0.61-0.67), CACS (OR range 0.71-0.75) and CarA (OR range 0.72-0.79). Theoretical replacement of 30 min of SED into an equal amount of MVPA associated with lower OR for significant CA, especially in participants with high SED 0.84 (95% CI 0.76 to 0.96) or low MVPA 0.51 (0.36 to 0.73)., Conclusions: MVPA was associated with a lower risk for significant atherosclerosis in both coronaries and carotids, while the association varied in strength and direction for SED and LIPA, respectively. Background: Patients with heart failure and left bundle branch block (LBBB) may receive cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), but current selection criteria are imprecise, and many patients have limited treatment response. Hemodynamic forces (HDF) have been suggested as a marker for CRT response. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate left ventricular (LV) HDF as a predictive marker for LV remodeling after CRT., Methods: Patients with heart failure, EF < 35% and LBBB (n = 22) underwent CMR with 4D flow prior to CRT. LV HDF were computed in three directions using the Navier-Stokes equations, reported in median N [interquartile range], and the ratio of transverse/longitudinal HDF was calculated for systole and diastole. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed before and 6 months after CRT. Patients with end-systolic volume reduction ≥ 15% were defined as responders., Results: Non-responders had smaller HDF than responders in the inferior-anterior direction in systole (0.06 [0.03] vs. 0.07 [0.03], p = 0.04), and in the apex-base direction in diastole (0.09 [0.02] vs. 0.1 [0.05], p = 0.047). Non-responders had larger diastolic HDF ratio compared to responders (0.89 vs. 0.67, p = 0.004). ROC analysis of diastolic HDF ratio for identifying CRT non-responders had AUC of 0.88 (p = 0.005) with sensitivity 57% and specificity 100% for ratio > 0.87. Intragroup comparison found higher HDF ratio in systole compared to diastole for responders (p = 0.003), but not for non-responders (p = 0.8)., Conclusion: Hemodynamic force ratio is a potential marker for identifying patients with heart failure and LBBB who are unlikely to benefit from CRT. Background: Plaque analysis with coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a promising tool to identify high risk of future coronary events. The analysis process is time-consuming, and requires highly trained readers. Deep learning models have proved to excel at similar tasks, however, training these models requires large sets of expert-annotated training data. The aims of this study were to generate a large, high-quality annotated CCTA dataset derived from Swedish CArdioPulmonary BioImage Study (SCAPIS), report the reproducibility of the annotation core lab and describe the plaque characteristics and their association with established risk factors., Methods and Results: The coronary artery tree was manually segmented using semi-automatic software by four primary and one senior secondary reader. A randomly selected sample of 469 subjects, all with coronary plaques and stratified for cardiovascular risk using the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE), were analyzed. The reproducibility study (n = 78) showed an agreement for plaque detection of 0.91 (0.84-0.97). The mean percentage difference for plaque volumes was -0.6% the mean absolute percentage difference 19.4% (CV 13.7%, ICC 0.94). There was a positive correlation between SCORE and total plaque volume (rho = 0.30, p < 0.001) and total low attenuation plaque volume (rho = 0.29, p < 0.001)., Conclusions: We have generated a CCTA dataset with high-quality plaque annotations showing good reproducibility and an expected correlation between plaque features and cardiovascular risk. Introduction: Pressure-volume (PV) loops can be used to assess both load-dependent and load-independent measures of cardiac hemodynamics. However, analysis of PV loops during exercise is challenging as it requires invasive measures. Using a novel method, it has been shown that left ventricular (LV) PV loops at rest can be obtained non-invasively from cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and brachial pressures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess if LV PV loops can be obtained non-invasively from CMR during exercise to assess cardiac hemodynamics., Methods: Thirteen endurance trained (ET; median 48 years [IQR 34-60]) and ten age and sex matched sedentary controls (SC; 43 years [27-57]) were included. CMR images were acquired at rest and during moderate intensity supine exercise defined as 60% of expected maximal heart rate. Brachial pressures were obtained in conjunction with image acquisition., Results: Contractility measured as maximal ventricular elastance (Emax) increased in both groups during exercise (ET: 1.0 mmHg/ml [0.9-1.1] to 1.1 mmHg/ml [0.9-1.2], p<0.01; SC: 1.1 mmHg/ml [0.9-1.2] to 1.2 mmHg/ml [1.0-1.3], p<0.01). Ventricular efficiency (VE) increased in ET from 70% [66-73] at rest to 78% [75-80] (p<0.01) during exercise and in SC from 68% [63-72] to 75% [73-78] (p<0.01). Arterial elastance (EA) decreased in both groups (ET: 0.8 mmHg/ml [0.7-0.9] to 0.7 mmHg/ml [0.7-0.9], p<0.05; SC: 1.0 mmHg/ml [0.9-1.2] to 0.9 mmHg/ml [0.8-1.0], p<0.05). Ventricular-arterial coupling (EA/Emax) also decreased in both groups (ET: 0.9 [0.8-1.0] to 0.7 [0.6-0.8], p<0.01; SC: 1.0 [0.9-1.1] to 0.7 [0.7-0.8], p<0.01)., Conclusions: This study demonstrates for the first time that LV PV loops can be generated non-invasively during exercise using CMR. ET and SC increase ventricular efficiency and contractility and decrease afterload and ventricular-arterial coupling during moderate supine exercise. These results confirm known physiology. Background Both myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (MPS) and exercise ECG (Ex-ECG) carry prognostic information in patients with stable chest pain. However, it is not fully understood if combining the findings of MPS and Ex-ECG improves risk prediction. Current guidelines no longer recommend Ex-ECG for diagnostic evaluation of chronic coronary syndrome, but Ex-ECG could still be of incremental prognostic importance. Methods and Results This study comprised 908 consecutive patients (age 63.3±9.4 years, 49% male) who performed MPS with Ex-ECG. Subjects were followed for 5 years. The end point was a composite of cardiovascular death, acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and unplanned percutaneous coronary intervention. National registry data and medical charts were used for end point allocation. Combining the findings of MPS and Ex-ECG resulted in concordant evidence of ischemia in 72 patients or absence of ischemia in 634 patients. Discordant results were found in 202 patients (MPS-/Ex-ECG+, n=126 and MPS+/Ex-ECG-, n=76). During follow-up, 95 events occurred. Annualized event rates significantly increased across groups (MPS-/Ex-ECG- =1.3%, MPS-/Ex-ECG+ =3.0%, MPS+/Ex-ECG- =5.1% and MPS+/Ex-ECG+ =8.0%). In multivariable analyses MPS was the strongest predictor regardless of Ex-ECG findings (MPS+/Ex-ECG-, hazard ratio [HR], 3.0, P =0.001 or MPS+/Ex-ECG+, HR,4.0, P <0.001). However, an abnormal Ex-ECG almost doubled the risk in subjects with normal MPS (MPS-/Ex-ECG+, HR, 1.9, P =0.04). Conclusions In patients with chronic coronary syndrome, combining the results from MPS and Ex-ECG led to improved risk prediction. Even though MPS is the stronger predictor, there is an incremental value of adding data from Ex-ECG to MPS, especially in patients with normal MPS.

Right ventricular (RV) volumes are commonly obtained through time-consuming manual delineations of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images. Deep learning-based methods can generate RV delineations, but few studies have assessed their ability to accelerate clinical practice. Therefore, we aimed to develop a clinical pipeline for deep learning-based RV delineations and validate its ability to reduce the manual delineation time. Quality-controlled delineations in short-axis CMR scans from 1114 subjects were used for development. Time reduction was assessed by two observers using 50 additional clinical scans. Automated delineations were subjectively rated as (A) sufficient for clinical use, or as needing (B) minor or (C) major corrections. Times were measured for manual corrections of delineations rated as B or C, and for fully manual delineations on all 50 scans. Fifty-eight % of automated delineations were rated as A, 42% as B, and none as C. The average time was 6 min for a fully manual delineation, 2 s for an automated delineation, and 2 min for a minor correction, yielding a time reduction of 87%. The deep learning-based pipeline could substantially reduce the time needed to manually obtain clinically applicable delineations, indicating ability to yield right ventricular assessments faster than fully manual analysis in clinical practice. Precapillary pulmonary hypertension (PH precap ) is a condition with elevated pulmonary vascular pressure and resistance. Patients have a poor prognosis and understanding the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms is crucial to guide and improve treatment. Ventricular hemodynamic forces (HDF) are a potential early marker of cardiac dysfunction, which may improve evaluation of treatment effect. Therefore, we aimed to investigate if HDF differ in patients with PH precap compared to healthy controls. Patients with PH precap (n = 20) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (n = 12) underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging including 4D flow. Biventricular HDF were computed in three spatial directions throughout the cardiac cycle using the Navier-Stokes equations. Biventricular HDF (N) indexed to stroke volume (l) were larger in patients than controls in all three directions. Data is presented as median N/l for patients vs controls. In the RV, systolic HDF diaphragm-outflow tract were 2.1 vs 1.4 (p = 0.003), and septum-free wall 0.64 vs 0.42 (p = 0.007). Diastolic RV HDF apex-base were 1.4 vs 0.87 (p < 0.0001), diaphragm-outflow tract 0.80 vs 0.47 (p = 0.005), and septum-free wall 0.60 vs 0.38 (p = 0.003). In the LV, systolic HDF apex-base were 2.1 vs 1.5 (p = 0.005), and lateral wall-septum 1.5 vs 1.2 (p = 0.02). Diastolic LV HDF apex-base were 1.6 vs 1.2 (p = 0.008), and inferior-anterior 0.46 vs 0.24 (p = 0.02). Hemodynamic force analysis conveys information of pathological cardiac pumping mechanisms complementary to more established volumetric and functional parameters in precapillary pulmonary hypertension. The right ventricle compensates for the increased afterload in part by augmenting transverse forces, and left ventricular hemodynamic abnormalities are mainly a result of underfilling rather than intrinsic ventricular dysfunction., (© 2022. To investigate if left and right atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) or regional contributions to SV are prognostic for outcome in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Seventy-one patients with PAH and 20 sex- and age-matched healthy controls underwent CMR. Myocardial borders and RV insertion points were defined at end diastole and end systole in cine short-axis stacks to compute biventricular volumes, lateral (SV lat% ) and septal (SV sept% ) contribution to stroke volume. Eight atrioventricular points were defined at end diastole and end systole in 2-, 3- and 4-chamber cine long-axis views for computation of AVPD and longitudinal contribution to stroke volume (SV long% ). Cut-off values for survival analysis were defined as two standard deviations above or below the mean of the controls. Outcome was defined as death or lung transplantation. Median follow-up time was 3.6 [IQR 3.7] years. Patients were 57 ± 19 years (65% women) and controls 58 ± 15 years (70% women). Biventricular AVPD, SV long% and ejection fraction (EF) were lower and SV lat% was higher, while SV sept% was lower in PAH compared with controls. In PAH, transplantation-free survival was lower below cut-off for LV-AVPD (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.1, 95%CI 1.2-3.9, p = 0.02) and RV-AVPD (HR = 9.8, 95%CI 4.6-21.1, p = 0.005). In Cox regression analysis, lower LV-AVPD and RV-AVPD inferred lower transplantation-free survival (LV: HR = 1.16, p = 0.007; RV: HR = 1.11, p = 0.01; per mm decrease). LV-SV long% , RV-SV long% , LV-SV lat% , RV-SV lat% , SV sept% and LV- and RVEF did not affect outcome. Background Coarctation of the aorta coexists with other cardiac anomalies and has long-term complications, including recoarctation, which may require intervention after the primary coarctation repair. This study aims to clarify the prevalence of and risk factors for interventions related to the coarctation complex as well as late mortality in a large contemporary patient population. Methods and Results The Swedish National Register of Congenital Heart Disease was used, which comprised 683 adults with repaired coarctation of the aorta. Analysis was performed on freedom from intervention thereafter at the coarctation site, aortic valve, left ventricular outflow tract, or ascending aorta. One hundred ninety-six (29%) patients had at least 1 of these interventions. Estimated freedom from either of these interventions was 60% after 50 years. The risk of undergoing such an intervention was higher among men (hazard ratio, 1.6 [95% CI, 1.2-2.2]). Estimated freedom from another intervention at the coarctation site was 75% after 50 years. In women, there was an increase in interventions at the coarctation site after 45 years. Patients who underwent one of the previously mentioned interventions after the primary coarctation repair had poorer left ventricular function. Eighteen patients (3%) died during follow-up in the register. The standardized mortality ratio was 2.9 (95% CI, 1.7-4.3). Conclusions Interventions are common after coarctation repair. The risk for and time of interventions are affected by sex. Our results have implications for planning follow-up and giving appropriate medical advice to the growing population of adults with repaired coarctation of the aorta.

Background The cardiovagal function can be assessed by quantification of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) during a deep breathing test. However, population studies of RSA and coronary atherosclerosis are lacking. This population-based study examined the relationship between RSA during deep breathing and coronary atherosclerosis, assessed by coronary artery calcium score (CACS). Methods and Results SCAPIS (Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study) randomly invited men and women aged 50 to 64 years from the general population. CACS was obtained from computed tomography scanning, and deep breathing tests were performed in 4654 individuals. Expiration-inspiration differences (E-Is) of heart rates were calculated, and reduced RSA was defined as E-I in the lowest decile of the population. The relationship between reduced RSA and CACS (CACS≥100 or CACS≥300) was calculated using multivariable-adjusted logistic regression. The proportion of CACS≥100 was 24% in the lowest decile of E-I and 12% in individuals with E-I above the lowest decile ( P <0.001), and the proportion of CACS≥300 was 12% and 4.8%, respectively ( P <0.001). The adjusted odds ratio (OR) for CACS≥100 was 1.42 (95% CI, 1.10-1.84) and the adjusted OR for CACS≥300 was 1.62 (95% CI, 1.15-2.28), when comparing the lowest E-I decile with deciles 2 to 10. Adjusted ORs per 1 SD lower E-I were 1.17 ( P =0.001) for CACS≥100 and 1.28 ( P =0.001) for CACS≥300. Conclusions Low RSA during deep breathing is associated with increased coronary atherosclerosis as assessed by CACS, independently of traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Cardiovagal dysfunction could be a prevalent and modifiable risk factor for coronary atherosclerosis in the general population.

Exercise cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can unmask cardiac pathology not evident at rest. Real-time CMR in free breathing can be used, but respiratory motion may compromise quantification of left ventricular (LV) function. We aimed to develop and validate a post-processing algorithm that semi-automatically sorts real-time CMR images according to breathing to facilitate quantification of LV function in free breathing exercise. A semi-automatic algorithm utilizing manifold learning (Laplacian Eigenmaps) was developed for respiratory sorting. Feasibility was tested in eight healthy volunteers and eight patients who underwent ECG-gated and real-time CMR at rest. Additionally, volunteers performed exercise CMR at 60% of maximum heart rate. The algorithm was validated for exercise by comparing LV mass during exercise to rest. Respiratory sorting to end expiration and end inspiration (processing time 20 to 40 min) succeeded in all research participants. Bias ± SD for LV mass was 0 ± 5 g when comparing real-time CMR at rest, and 0 ± 7 g when comparing real-time CMR during exercise to ECG-gated at rest. This study presents a semi-automatic algorithm to retrospectively perform respiratory sorting in free breathing real-time CMR. COVID-19 is associated with myocardial injury caused by ischemia, inflammation, or myocarditis. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is the noninvasive reference standard for cardiac function, structure, and tissue composition. CMR is a potentially valuable diagnostic tool in patients with COVID-19 presenting with myocardial injury and evidence of cardiac dysfunction. Although COVID-19-related myocarditis is likely infrequent, COVID-19-related cardiovascular histopathology findings have been reported in up to 48% of patients, raising the concern for long-term myocardial injury. Studies to date report CMR abnormalities in 26% to 60% of hospitalized patients who have recovered from COVID-19, including functional impairment, myocardial tissue abnormalities, late gadolinium enhancement, or pericardial abnormalities. In athletes post-COVID-19, CMR has detected myocarditis-like abnormalities. In children, multisystem inflammatory syndrome may occur 2 to 6 weeks after infection; associated myocarditis and coronary artery aneurysms are evaluable by CMR. At this time, our understanding of COVID-19-related cardiovascular involvement is incomplete, and multiple studies are planned to evaluate patients with COVID-19 using CMR. In this review, we summarize existing studies of CMR for patients with COVID-19 and present ongoing research. To assess (1) global longitudinal strain (GLS) by feature tracking cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in the sub-acute and chronic phases after ST-elevation infarction (STEMI) and compare to GLS in healthy controls, and (2) the evolution of GLS and regional longitudinal strain (RLS) over time, and their relationship to infarct location and size. Seventy-seven patients from the CHILL-MI-trial (NCT01379261) who underwent CMR 2-6 days and 6 months after STEMI and 27 healthy controls were included for comparison. Steady state free precession (SSFP) long-axis cine images were obtained for GLS and RLS, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) images were obtained for infarct size quantifications. GLS was impaired in the sub-acute (- 11.8 ± 3.0%) and chronic phases (- 14.3 ± 2.9%) compared to normal GLS in controls (- 18.4 ± 2.4%; p < 0.001 for both). GLS improved from sub-acute to chronic phase (p < 0.001). GLS was to some extent determined by infarct size (sub-acute: r 2  = 0.2; chronic: r 2  = 0.2, p < 0.001). RLS was impaired in all 6 wall-regions in LAD infarctions in both the sub-acute and chronic phase, while LCx and RCA infarctions had preserved RLS in remote myocardium at both time points. Global longitudinal strain is impaired sub-acutely after STEMI and improvement is seen in the chronic phase, although not reaching normal levels. Global longitudinal strain is only moderately determined by infarct size. Regional longitudinal strain is most impaired in the infarcted region, and LAD infarctions have effects on the whole heart. Introduction: We investigated if uptake pattern on myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) in patients with left bundle branch block (LBBB) is related to myocardial fibrosis, myocardial wall motion, and electrocardiography (ECG) characteristics., Methods: Twenty-three patients (9 women) with LBBB, examined with MPS and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), were included. Tracer uptake on MPS was classified by visual interpretation as typical LBBB pattern (Defect+, n = 13) or not (Defect-, n = 10) and quantitatively. CMR images were evaluated for wall thickness and for myocardial wall motion both by visual assessment and by regional myocardial radial strain from feature tracking, and for presence and location of myocardial fibrosis. ECGs were analyzed regarding QRS duration and the presence of strict criteria for LBBB., Results: Wall thickness was slightly lower in the septum compared to the lateral wall in Defect+ patients (5.6 ± 1.1 vs 6.0 ± 1.3 mm, P = 0.03) but not in Defect- patients (5.6 ± 1.0 vs 5.6 ± 0.9 mm, P = 0.84). Defect+ patients showed a larger proportion of dyskinetic segments in the septum and hyperkinetic segments in the lateral wall compared to Defect- patients (P = 0.006 and P = 0.004, respectively). Decreased myocardial radial strain was associated with decreased tracer uptake by MPS (R = 0.37, P < 0.001). Areas of fibrosis did not match areas with uptake defect on MPS. No differences in ECG variables were seen., Conclusion: The heterogeneous regional tracer uptake in some patients with LBBB is related to underlying regional myocardial dyskinesia, wall thickening, and wall thickness rather than stress-induced ischemia, myocardial fibrosis, or specific ECG characteristics., (© 2020. Background: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) restores ventricular synchrony and induces left ventricular (LV) reverse remodeling in patients with heart failure (HF) and dyssynchrony. However, 30% of treated patients are non-responders despite all efforts. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) can be used to quantify regional contributions to stroke volume (SV) as potential CRT predictors. The aim of this study was to determine if LV longitudinal (SV long% ), lateral (SV lat% ), and septal (SV sept% ) contributions to SV differ from healthy controls and investigate if these parameters can predict CRT response., Methods: Sixty-five patients (19 women, 67 ± 9 years) with symptomatic HF (LVEF ≤ 35%) and broadened QRS (≥ 120 ms) underwent CMR. SV long% was calculated as the volume encompassed by the atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) from end diastole (ED) to end systole (ES) divided by total SV. SV lat% , and SV sept% were calculated as the volume encompassed by radial contraction from ED to ES. Twenty age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were used as controls. The regional measures were compared to outcome response defined as ≥ 15% decrease in echocardiographic LV end-systolic volume (LVESV) from pre- to 6-months post CRT (delta, Δ)., Results: AVPD and SV long% were lower in patients compared to controls (8.3 ± 3.2 mm vs 15.3 ± 1.6 mm, P < 0.001; and 53 ± 18% vs 64 ± 8%, P < 0.01). SV sept% was lower (0 ± 15% vs 10 ± 4%, P < 0.01) with a higher SV lat% in the patient group (42 ± 16% vs 29 ± 7%, P < 0.01). There were no differences between responders and non-responders in neither SV long% (P = 0.87), SV lat% (P = 0.09), nor SV sept% (P = 0.65). In patients with septal net motion towards the right ventricle (n = 28) ΔLVESV was - 18 ± 22% and with septal net motion towards the LV (n = 37) ΔLVESV was - 19 ± 23% (P = 0.96)., Conclusions: Longitudinal function, expressed as AVPD and longitudinal contribution to SV, is decreased in patients with HF scheduled for CRT. A larger lateral contribution to SV compensates for the abnormal septal systolic net movement. However, LV reverse remodeling could not be predicted by these regional contributors to SV., (© 2021. Background: Early detection of coronary atherosclerosis using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA), in addition to coronary artery calcification (CAC) scoring, may help inform prevention strategies. We used CCTA to determine the prevalence, severity, and characteristics of coronary atherosclerosis and its association with CAC scores in a general population., Methods: We recruited 30 154 randomly invited individuals age 50 to 64 years to SCAPIS (the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study). The study includes individuals without known coronary heart disease (ie, no previous myocardial infarctions or cardiac procedures) and with high-quality results from CCTA and CAC imaging performed using dedicated dual-source CT scanners. Noncontrast images were scored for CAC. CCTA images were visually read and scored for coronary atherosclerosis per segment (defined as no atherosclerosis, 1% to 49% stenosis, or ≥50% stenosis). External validity of prevalence estimates was evaluated using inverse probability for participation weighting and Swedish register data., Results: In total, 25 182 individuals without known coronary heart disease were included (50.6% women). Any CCTA-detected atherosclerosis was found in 42.1%; any significant stenosis (≥50%) in 5.2%; left main, proximal left anterior descending artery, or 3-vessel disease in 1.9%; and any noncalcified plaques in 8.3% of this population. Onset of atherosclerosis was delayed on average by 10 years in women. Atherosclerosis was more prevalent in older individuals and predominantly found in the proximal left anterior descending artery. Prevalence of CCTA-detected atherosclerosis increased with increasing CAC scores. Among those with a CAC score >400, all had atherosclerosis and 45.7% had significant stenosis. In those with 0 CAC, 5.5% had atherosclerosis and 0.4% had significant stenosis. In participants with 0 CAC and intermediate 10-year risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease according to the pooled cohort equation, 9.2% had CCTA-verified atherosclerosis. Prevalence estimates had excellent external validity and changed marginally when adjusted to the age-matched Swedish background population., Conclusions: Using CCTA in a large, random sample of the general population without established disease, we showed that silent coronary atherosclerosis is common in this population. High CAC scores convey a significant probability of substantial stenosis, and 0 CAC does not exclude atherosclerosis, particularly in those at higher baseline risk.

This document is a position statement from the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) on recommendations for clinical utilization of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in women with cardiovascular disease. The document was prepared by the SCMR Consensus Group on CMR Imaging for Female Patients with Cardiovascular Disease and endorsed by the SCMR Publications Committee and SCMR Executive Committee. The goals of this document are to (1) guide the informed selection of cardiovascular imaging methods, (2) inform clinical decision-making, (3) educate stakeholders on the advantages of CMR in specific clinical scenarios, and (4) empower patients with clinical evidence to participate in their clinical care. The statements of clinical utility presented in the current document pertain to the following clinical scenarios: acute coronary syndrome, stable ischemic heart disease, peripartum cardiomyopathy, cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction, aortic syndrome and congenital heart disease in pregnancy, bicuspid aortic valve and aortopathies, systemic rheumatic diseases and collagen vascular disorders, and cardiomyopathy-causing mutations. The authors cite published evidence when available and provide expert consensus otherwise. Most of the evidence available pertains to translational studies involving subjects of both sexes. However, the authors have prioritized review of data obtained from female patients, and direct comparison of CMR between women and men. This position statement does not consider CMR accessibility or availability of local expertise, but instead highlights the optimal utilization of CMR in women with known or suspected cardiovascular disease. Finally, the ultimate goal of this position statement is to improve the health of female patients with cardiovascular disease by providing specific recommendations on the use of CMR.

To evaluate the association between impaired left ventricular (LV) longitudinal function and LV underfilling in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Thirty-nine patients with PAH and 18 age and sex-matched healthy controls were included. LV volume and left atrial volume (LAV) were delineated in short-axis cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) cine images. LV longitudinal function was assessed from atrio-ventricular plane displacement (AVPD) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) was assessed using feature tracking in three long-axis views. LV filling was assessed by LAV and by pulmonary artery wedge pressure (PAWP) using right heart catheterisation. Patients had a smaller LAV, LV volume and stroke volume as well as a lower LV-AVPD and LV-GLS than controls. PAWP was 6 [IQR 5--9] mmHg in patients. LV ejection fraction did not differ between groups. LV stroke volume correlated with LV-AVPD (r = 0.445, p = .001), LV-GLS (r = - 0.549, p < 0.0001) and LAVmax (r = .585, p < 0.0001). Furthermore, LV-AVPD (r = .598) and LV-GLS (r = - 0.675) correlated with LAVmax (p < 0.0001 for both). Neither LV-AVPD, LV-GLS, LAVmax nor stroke volume correlated with PAWP. Impaired LV longitudinal function was associated with low stroke volume, low PAWP and a small LAV in PAH. Small stroke volumes and LAV, together with normal LA pressure, implies that the mechanism causing reduced LV longitudinal function is underfilling rather than an intrinsic LV dysfunction in PAH.

Introduction: Both echocardiography and CMR imaging are used to quantify longitudinal function. Inter-method variability for mitral (MAPSE) and tricuspid (TAPSE) annular plane systolic excursion, and variability between directly measured MAPSE and TAPSE and as based on atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) analysis by CMR, are, however, not known. This study, therefore, assessed inter-method variability and variability between annular plane systolic excursion and AVPD-based values in a healthy adult population., Methods: Echocardiography and CMR were performed in 111 adults (35 [32-38] years). Method comparisons were assessed with Deming regression, Bland-Altman analysis and coefficient of variation. Observer reproducibility was assessed by the concordance correlation coefficient., Results: Echocardiography and semi-automatic CMR agreed on MAPSE (17 ± 2 mm vs. 17 ± 2 mm, p = 0.1) and TAPSE (25 ± 3 mm vs. 25 ± 3 mm, p = 0.5), correlated highly between methods (fitted-slope 1.22 [95% CI 1.07-1.38] and 1.12 [95% CI 0.95-1.29]) and showed low bias (0.42 [95% CI - 2.05 to 2.88] and - 0.18 [95% CI - 4.78 to 4.43]). Intra-/inter-observer reproducibility was high for both methods for both MAPSE (echocardiography 0.96/0.86; CMR 0.87/0.85) and TAPSE (echocardiography 0.96/0.95; CMR 0.97/0.96). MAPSE (16 ± 2 mm vs. 17 ± 2 mm; p < 0.001) and TAPSE (24 ± 3 vs. 25 ± 3 mm; p < 0.001) based on AVPD were similar but statistically different compared with semi-automatic CMR., Conclusions: Echocardiography and semi-automatic CMR have low variability and provide similar values for MAPSE and TAPSE and are thus interchangeable for follow-up studies. Lateral values based on tracked data from AVPD analysis are not clinically significantly different and could be used as a representation of annular displacement., (© 2021 The Authors. Background: In adult patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), right ventricular (RV) failure may worsen rapidly, resulting in a poor prognosis. In this population, non-invasive assessment of RV function is challenging. RV stroke work index (RVSWI) measured by right heart catheterization (RHC) represents a promising index for RV function. The aim of the present study was to comprehensively evaluate non-invasive measures to calculate RVSWI derived by echocardiography (RVSWI ECHO ) using RHC (RVSWI RHC ) as a reference in adult PAH patients., Methods: Retrospectively, 54 consecutive treatment naïve patients with PAH (65 ± 13 years, 36 women) were analyzed. Echocardiography and RHC were performed within a median of 1 day [IQR 0-1 days]. RVSWI RHC was calculated as: (mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP)-mean right atrial pressure (mRAP)) x stroke volume index (SVI) RHC . Four methods for RVSWI ECHO were evaluated: RVSWI ECHO-1  = Tricuspid regurgitant maximum pressure gradient (TR maxPG ) x SVI ECHO , RVSWI ECHO-2  = (TR maxPG -mRAP ECHO ) x SVI ECHO , RVSWI ECHO-3  = TR mean gradient (TR meanPG ) x SVI ECHO and RVSWI ECHO-4  = (TR meanPG -mRAP ECHO ) x SVI ECHO . Estimation of mRAP ECHO was derived from inferior vena cava diameter., Results: RVSWI RHC was 1132 ± 352 mmHg*mL*m -2 . In comparison with RVSWI RHC in absolute values, RVSWI ECHO-1 and RVSWI ECHO-2 was significantly higher (p < 0.001), whereas RVSWI ECHO-4 was lower (p < 0.001). No difference was shown for RVSWI ECHO-3 (p = 0.304). The strongest correlation, with RVSWI RHC , was demonstrated for RVSWI ECHO-2 (r = 0.78, p < 0.001) and RVSWI ECHO-1 ( r = 0.75, p < 0.001). RVSWI ECHO-3 and RVSWI ECHO-4 had moderate correlation (r = 0.66 and r = 0.69, p < 0.001 for all). A good agreement (ICC) was demonstrated for RVSWI ECHO-3 (ICC = 0.80, 95% CI 0.64-0.88, p < 0.001), a moderate for RVSWI ECHO-4 (ICC = 0.73 , 95% CI 0.27-0.87, p < 0.001) and RVSWI ECHO-2 (ICC = 0.55, 95% CI - 0.21-0.83, p < 0.001). A poor ICC was demonstrated for RVSWI ECHO-1 (ICC = 0.45, 95% CI - 0.18-0.77, p < 0.001). Agreement of absolute values for RVSWI ECHO-1 was - 772 ± 385 (- 50 ± 20%) mmHg*mL*m -2 , RVSWI ECHO-2 - 600 ± 339 (-41 ± 20%) mmHg*mL*m -2 , RVSWI ECHO-3 42 ± 286 (5 ± 25%) mmHg*mL*m -2 and for RVSWI ECHO-4 214 ± 273 (23 ± 27%) mmHg*mL*m -2 ., Conclusion: The correlation with RVSWI RHC was moderate to strong for all echocardiographic measures, whereas only RVSWI ECHO-3 displayed high concordance of absolute values. The results, however, suggest that RVSWI ECHO-1 or RVSWI ECHO-3 could be the preferable echocardiographic methods. Prospective studies are warranted to evaluate the clinical utility of such measures in relation to treatment response, risk stratification and prognosis in patients with PAH.

Background: It is not clear if the European Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation algorithm is useful for identifying prevalent subclinical atherosclerosis in a population of apparently healthy individuals. Our aim was to explore the association between the risk estimates from Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation and prevalent subclinical atherosclerosis., Design: The design of this study was as a cross-sectional analysis from a population-based study cohort., Methods: From the general population, the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study randomly invited individuals aged 50-64 years and enrolled 13,411 participants mean age 57 (standard deviation 4.3) years; 46% males between November 2013-December 2016. Associations between Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation risk estimates and coronary artery calcification and plaques in the carotid arteries by using imaging data from a computed tomography of the heart and ultrasonography of the carotid arteries were examined., Results: Coronary calcification was present in 39.5% and carotid plaque in 56.0%. In men, coronary artery calcium score >0 ranged from 40.7-65.9% and presence of carotid plaques from 54.5% to 72.8% in the age group 50-54 and 60-65 years, respectively. In women, the corresponding difference was from 17.1-38.9% and from 41.0-58.4%. A doubling of Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation was associated with an increased probability to have coronary artery calcium score >0 (odds ratio: 2.18 (95% confidence interval 2.07-2.30)) and to have >1 carotid plaques (1.67 (1.61-1.74))., Conclusion: Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation estimated risk is associated with prevalent subclinical atherosclerosis in two major vascular beds in a general population sample without established cardiovascular disease or diabetes mellitus. Thus, the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation risk chart may be of use for estimating the risk of subclinical atherosclerosis., (© The Author(s) 2020.
