Background: Vascular complications are a primary diagnostic consideration in liver transplant recipients, with an overall incidence of 9%. Cross-sectional imaging techniques provide information regarding vascular structure and luminal patency but can not quantitatively assess hepatocyte damage in the liver graft parenchyma. Perfusion computerized tomography (CT) is a recently developed method that allows for quantitative evaluation of hemodynamic changes in tissue. Our objective was to evaluate the clinical utility of perfusion CT in assessing vascular complications during living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT)., Methods: The 33 recipients were divided into 3 groups according to Doppler ultrasonographic findings: hepatic arterial complication group, portal venous complication group, and hepatic venous complication group. Blood volume (BV), blood flow (BF), arterial liver perfusion (ALP), portal venous perfusion (PVP), and hepatic perfusion index (HPI) were calculated for the affected vascular territory regions., Results: Compared with normal liver parenchyma, BV, BF, ALP, and HPI were significantly lower in the hepatic arterial complication group. Although PVP and BV were significantly lower, ALP, HPI, and BF were higher in the affected vascular territory region than in normal liver parenchyma for the portal venous complication group. In the hepatic venous complication group, PVP was significantly higher and BF, ALP, and HPI significantly lower in the affected vascular territory regions than in normal liver parenchyma., Conclusions: Perfusion CT imaging is a noninvasive technique that enables the quantitative evaluation of vascular complications in the graft parenchyma after LDLT and permits a quantitative evaluation of the treatment response., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc. This study evaluated contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) and three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (3D-TOF-MRA) through comparisons with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for the follow-up of intracranial aneurysms treated with detachable coils. Sixty-seven patients with 79 aneurysms underwent 3D-TOF-MRA, CE-MRA, and catheter angiography one year after coiling. Two independent observers classified recanalization status on images as neck or body remnant or no recanalization. For 3D-TOF-MRA and CE-MRA, the intermodality agreement, interobserver agreement, and correlation with angiography were assessed. Sixty-seven patients with 79 coiled aneurysms agreed to participate in the study. Three aneurysms could not be detected on 3D-TOF-MRA, so they were excluded from this study. Interobserver agreement was very good for 3D-TOF-MRA and CE-MRA (kappa (κ): 0.87, 0.94, respectively). Correlation of TOF-MRA with angiography was good (κ: 0.76). Correlation of CE-MRA with angiography was excellent (κ: 0.91). The sensitivity and specificity of TOF-MRA were 92% and 98%, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of CE-MRA were 96% and 98%, respectively. After selective embolization of intracranial aneurysms, CE-MRA is useful and comparable to DSA in the assessment of aneurysmal recanalization. Agreement with the gold standard is stronger with CE-MRA than with 3D-TOF-MRA.

The comparison of the histologic healing and bronchopleural fistula (BPF) complications encountered with three different BS closure techniques (manual suture, stapler and manual suture plus tissue flab) after pneumonectomy in dogs was investigated for a one-month period. The dogs were separated into two groups: group I (GI) (n = 9) and group II (GII) (n = 9). Right and left pneumonectomies were performed on the animals in GI and GII, respectively. Each group was further divided into three subgroups according to BS closure technique: subgroup I (SGI) (n = 3), manual suture; subgroup II (SGII) (n = 3), stapler; and subgroup III (SGIII) (n = 3), manual suture plus tissue flab. The dogs were sacrificed after one month of observation, and the bronchial stumps were removed for histological examination. The complications observed during a one-month period following pneumonectomy in nine dogs (n = 9) were: BPF (n = 5), peri-operative cardiac arrest (n = 1), post-operative respiratory arrest (n = 1), post-operative cardiac failure (n = 1) and cardio-pulmonary failure (n = 1). Histological healing was classified as complete or incomplete healing. Histological healing and BPF complications in the subgroups were analyzed statistically. There was no significant difference in histological healing between SGI and SGIII (p = 1.00; p > 0.05), nor between SGII and SGIII (p = 1.00; p > 0.05). Similarly, no significant difference was observed between the subgroups in terms of BPF (p = 0.945; p > 0.05). The results of the statistical analysis indicated that manual suture, stapler or manual suture plus tissue flab could be alternative methods for BS closure following pneumonectomy in dogs.
