Previously, we developed a method to visualize residual ophthalmic viscosurgical devices after irrigation/aspiration in vitro and found that the amount of residual ophthalmic viscosurgical device on a single-piece intraocular lens was greater than that on a three-piece intraocular lens. In the present study, we compared the amounts of residual ophthalmic viscosurgical device among various foldable intraocular lenses to investigate the factors that determine the quantity of residual ophthalmic viscosurgical device.Patients and Methods: Simulated cataract surgery was performed in pig eyes using an ophthalmic viscosurgical device labeled with fluorescent silica particles. After the simulated surgery procedure, the fluorescent silica attached to the intraocular lens was observed and quantified by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry after intraocular lens removal. The amount of residual ophthalmic viscosurgical device was compared among five representative single-piece intraocular lenses and one three-piece intraocular lens. Results: The distribution and amount of the residual ophthalmic viscosurgical device differed for each intraocular lens. The amount of silicon in the lens capsule differed among the intraocular lens types. Conclusion: The postoperative residual tendency of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices differed among various single-piece intraocular lenses. The behavior of the intraocular lenses within the capsule affected the residual tendency. The removal of ophthalmic viscosurgical device in the lens capsule should be tailored for each intraocular lens to improve efficiency. Keywords: cataract surgery, intraocular lens, ophthalmic viscosurgical devices

The mean age at the time of surgery was 73.4 ± 12.3 years. The patients underwent flanged IOL fixation using a PN6A (Kowa). All surgeries were performed by two surgeons (Y. K. and T. O.) between Jan 2020 and Dec 2022 at Jikei University Daisan Hospital. IOL power was calculated using the SRK/T formula with IOL Master 700 (Carl Zeiss) as the bag power. The recommended value of 119.0 was used for the A-constant. The actual refractive spherical equivalent was calculated and compared with preoperative predictions. Refractive prediction errors were defined as the deviation of the actual postoperative spherical equivalent refraction in diopters from the predicted preoperative spherical equivalent refraction. The patients were divided into three groups according to axial length: < 22.0 mm (short eyes), 22.0– 24.5 mm (medium eyes), and > 24.5 mm (long eyes), and the refractive prediction errors and mean absolute errors were compared. Results: The mean refractive prediction error was − 0.20 ± 0.52D. The mean absolute error was 0.44 ± 0.33D. The mean refractive prediction errors were not significantly different between the 22.0– 24.5 mm (medium eyes) and > 24.5 mm (long eyes) groups. (P=0.06) The mean absolute errors were not significantly different between the two groups (P=0.10).Conclusion: The SRK/T formula worked well regardless of whether the eyes were medium or long according to the axial length in the flanged intrascleral IOL fixation. Keywords: flanged intrascleral IOL fixation, refractive prediction error, SRK/T formula, axial length

Fundus images were captured using TRC-NW8 (Topcon Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), and were interpreted by 10 non-ophthalmologists, 10 non-specialist ophthalmologists, and 9 specialists for diagnostic accuracy. We analyzed differences in diagnostic accuracy among the three groups. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and Kappa coefficient were compared, using the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by a post hoc Dunn’s test. Results: The sensitivity and specificity were 0.22 and 0.92 for non-ophthalmologists, 0.49 and 0.83 for non-specialist ophthalmologists, and 0.68 and 0.87 for specialists, respectively. Both specialists and non-specialist ophthalmologists showed significantly higher sensitivity than non-ophthalmologists (Dunn’s test, P< 0.001 and P=0.031). There was no significant difference in specificity among the three groups (Kruskal–Wallis test, P=0.086). The PPV did not differ significantly between the groups (Kruskal–Wallis test, P=0.108), while the NPV was significantly higher in specialists compared to non-ophthalmologists (Dunn’s test, P< 0.001). Specialists also had a significantly higher Kappa coefficient than non-ophthalmologists and non-specialist ophthalmologists (Dunn’s test, P< 0.001 and P=0.024).Conclusion: Diagnostic accuracy varied significantly based on the physician’s background. Keywords: glaucoma, fundus images, sensitivity, specificity, health checkup

This risk of discontinuation could be reduced by how the ophthalmologist explains the treatment plan. Ophthalmologists can explain the treatment plan to patients in either positive or negative contexts. Although explanations in a negative context can be selected depending on the medical situation, identification of patients who will choose the treatment with explicit statistical prediction after an explanation in a negative context is important; personality traits are related to these emotional decisions. Therefore, in the present study, we examined the personality traits associated with choice of treatment with explicit statistical prediction after an explanation in a negative context.Patients and Methods: A total of 147 patients with glaucoma were recruited for this study. The questionnaire booklets used contained positively framed or negatively framed versions of an “Asian disease problem” to enable examination of the influence of the way in which a problem is framed (framing effect) on the participants’ decision-making. The Japanese version of the Ten-Item Personality Inventory was used to estimate the personality traits of the participants. Results: Low conscientiousness was identified as the only variable that was strongly predictive of the choice of treatment with explicit statistical prediction (β = − 0.44, z = 2.19, p = 0.03). In addition, while the association was not statistically significant, low neuroticism was found to be weakly predictive of the choice of uncertain treatment (β = − 0.37, z = 1.73, p = 0.08).Conclusion: In conclusion, we showed that low levels of conscientiousness predict the choice of treatment with explicit statistical prediction (ie, topical treatment) for glaucoma after an explanation in a negative context. Keywords: conscientiousness, neuroticism, glaucoma, big five personality traits

The latest version of the SONIC code with the extended thermal force model that is capable to treat collisionality dependence of the force has been applied to the interpretative simulation of L‐mode discharge of JT‐60 U to investigate the impact of kinetic correction of the thermal force on the scrape‐off layer (SOL) plasma properties. As a first attempt, we have selected an L‐mode attached discharge #39090 (Ip = 1.6 MA, Bt = 3.1 T, and PNBI = 4.5 MW), where n‾e$$ {\overline{n}}_e $$ = 2.08 × 1019 m−3, n‾e/nGr$$ {\overline{n}}_e/{n}_{Gr} $$ = 0.392 with deuterium plasmas. It has been found that the peak values of SOL impurity density are reduced by a factor of 2, with the kinetic correction, because the thermal force is reduced by the low collisionality of SOL plasma between the X‐point and the (inner and outer) midplane. On the other hand, the profiles near the divertor plates are unaffected by the kinetic correction due to the highly collisional condition. The kinetic correction is found more pronounced for the higher charge states impurity due to the charge dependence of the parallel impurity force balance. Overall effects due to the kinetic correction on the total impurity radiation and the divertor heat load are confirmed to be a few % in the present discharge condition of JT‐60U. - Abstract
The cross-field transport in the scrape-off-layers (SOLs) and divertors in tokamaks is of a similar size to the poloidal component of the parallel flow, thereby significantly impacting the plasma transport there. However, its direct observation has been challenging because the drift velocity (10
2 –103 m/s) is significantly below the detection limit of conventional diagnostics. To realize cross-field ion flow measurement, a variety of systematic uncertainties in the system must be narrowed down. Here, we develop a conceptual design of the Doppler spectrometry that enables us to measure the impurity flows with 102 -m/s accuracy based on an in situ wavelength-calibration technique developed in the astrophysics field, the iodine-cell method. We discuss its properties and applicability. In particular, the scaling relation between wavelength accuracy and various spectroscopic parameters is newly presented, which suggests the high importance of the wavelength resolution of the system. Based on transport simulations for the JT-60SA divertor, the feasibility of the system is assessed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
A real-time processing system for the two-color CO
2 laser interferometer on the JT-60SA has been developed for density feedback control. The system has a novel feature that can detect fringe jumps due to off-normal events, such as loss detection due to displacement of the beam axis and changes in the laser wavelengths. Because a phase change due to the JT-60SA plasma is smaller than π/2, corresponding to the line-integral electron density NL of ∼ 6 × 1 0 19 m−2 in a short interval of 500 ns, the threshold of the fringe jump detection is decided to be π/2. Hence, off-normal events can be detected from a fringe jump, leading to the abort of the real-time feedback control. In the density feedback control of the JT-60SA plasma, the system is employed as a density monitor, with NL being successfully controlled at 16.8% ± 6.6% lower than the reference. - Abstract
The processes e+e−→Σ0Σ¯0 and e+e−→Σ+Σ¯− are studied using initial-state-radiation events in a sample of 980 fb−1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The cross sections from the mass threshold to 3 GeV/c2 and the effective form factors of Σ0 and Σ+ are measured. In the charmonium region, we observe the decays J/ψ→Σ0Σ¯0 and J/ψ→Σ+Σ¯− and determine the respective branching fractions.

- Abstract
Using the data sample of 980 fb−1 collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider, we present the results of an investigation of the Λπ+ and Λπ− invariant mass distributions looking for substructure in the decay Λc+→Λπ+π+π−. We find a significant signal in each mass distribution. When interpreted as resonances, we find for the Λπ+ (Λπ−) combination a mass of 1434.3±0.6(stat)±0.9(syst) MeV/c2 [1438.5±0.9(stat)±2.5(syst) MeV/c2], an intrinsic width of 11.5±2.8(stat)±5.3(syst) MeV/c2 [33.0±7.5(stat)±23.6(syst) MeV/c2] with a significance of 7.5σ (6.2σ). As these two signals are very close to the K¯N threshold, we also investigate the possibility of a K¯N cusp, and find that we cannot discriminate between these two interpretations due to the limited size of the data sample.

- Abstract
Using the entire data sample of 980 fb−1 collected at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the branching ratios of the Λc(2625)+ charmed baryon. The mass difference between Λc(2625)+ and Λc+ is measured to be M(Λc(2625)+)−M(Λc+)=341.518±0.006±0.049 MeV/c2. The upper limit on the width is measured to be Γ(Λc(2625)+)<0.52 MeV/c2 at 90% confidence level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π− are measured to be B(Λc(2625)+→Σc0π+)B(Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π−)=(5.19±0.23±0.40)% and B(Λc(2625)+→Σc++π−)B(Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π−)=(5.13±0.26±0.32)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models.

- Abstract
We present a study of a singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λc+→pKS0KS0 and a Cabibbo-favored decay Λc+→pKS0η based on 980 fb−1 of data collected by the Belle detector, operating at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e− collider. We measure their branching fractions relative to Λc+→pKS0: B(Λc+→pKS0KS0)/B(Λc+→pKS0)=(1.48±0.08±0.04)×10−2 and B(Λc+→pKS0η)/B(Λc+→pKS0)=(2.73±0.06±0.13)×10−1. Combining with the world average B(Λc+→pKS0), we have the absolute branching fractions, B(Λc+→pKS0KS0)=(2.35±0.12±0.07±0.12)×10−4 and B(Λc+→pKS0η)=(4.35±0.10±0.20±0.22)×10−3. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty on B(Λc+→pKS0). The mode Λc+→pKS0KS0 is observed for the first time and has a statistical significance of >10σ. The branching fraction of Λc+→pKS0η has been measured with a threefold improvement in precision over previous results and is found to be consistent with the world average.
