RESUMO Entre os tipos de alface cultivados atualmente, tem-se destacado a alface americana, que visa atender, principalmente, as redes de fast foods. Com o objetivo de avaliar o comportamento produtivo de cultivares de alface americana nas condições do Submédio do Vale do São Francisco, foram conduzidos dois experimentos, em 2013 e 2014, em Petrolina-PE. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso com doze genótipos em 2013 e vinte e dois genótipos em 2014, com três repetições. Foram avaliados produção total e comercial por planta; produtividade total e comercial; circunferência da “cabeça” comercial e comprimento do caule em cada ano de cultivo. Para as cultivares avaliadas nos dois anos, efetuou-se a análise conjunta. Em 2013 a produção e produtividade total apresentaram diferenças significativas entre tratamentos, sobressaindo-se os genótipos Havassu (940 g/planta e 78,3 t/ha), Perovana (922 g/planta e 76,8 t/ha), Laurel (903 g/planta e 75,2 t/ha) e Balsamo (875 g/planta e 72,8 t/ha). Já no cultivo de 2014, a massa fresca e produtividade total variou entre 526 e 816 g/planta e 43,8 e 67,9 t/ha, com melhores respostas produtivas para os genótipos Laurel (816 g/planta e 67,9 t/ha) e Silvana (809 g/planta e 67,4 t/ha), sem contudo diferirem entre si. Pela análise conjunta, pôde-se verificar que todas as características avaliadas foram afetadas significativamente pela interação entre os fatores ano e cultivares. Conclui-se que é viável o cultivo dessa hortaliça na região. As cultivares Ironwood, Havassu, Laurel, Flora, Perovana, Raider Plus, Balsamo e Silvana são as mais indicadas. ABSTRACT Among the types of lettuce currently cultivated, crisphead lettuce has exceeded, which aims to serve mainly the networks of fast food. In order to evaluate the productive behavior of lettuce cultivars in Sub-Middle of São Francisco Valley, Pernambuco State, Brazil, two experiments were carried out, in 2013 and 2014. Randomized blocks with twelve genotypes in 2013 and twenty-two genotypes in 2014, with three replications, were evaluated. Total and commercial production per plant; total and commercial productivity; circumference of the commercial "head" and stem length in each year of cultivation were obtained. On both experiments the cultivars were evaluated through joint analysis. For the 2013 crop, total production and productivity showed significant differences between treatments, wherein Havassu (940 g/plant and 78.3 t/ha), Perovana (922 g/plant and 76.8 t/ha), Laurel (903 g/plant and 75.2 t/ha) and Balsamo (875 g/plant and 72.8 t/ha) were the genotypes that exceeded. In 2014, fresh mass and total productivity ranged between 526 and 816 g/plant and 43.8 and 67.9 t/ha, Laurel (816 g/plant and 67.9 t/ha) and Silvana (809 g/plant and 67.4 t/ha) presenting the best results, with no difference among them. For joint analysis, every evaluated characteristic was significantly affected by the interaction between the factors, year and cultivars. We concluded that the cultivation of crisphead lettuce is viable in the region. The cultivars Ironwood, Havassu, Laurel, Flora, Perovana, Raider Plus, Balsamo and Silvana are the most indicated.

The objective of this work was to evaluate physiological and biochemical responses of Pele de sapo melon to different irrigation depths (ID) and bioestimulant rates (BTM) to improve its production efficiency. The experiment was conducted in an experimental field in Juazeiro, BA, Brazil. A randomized block design in split split-plot arrangement was used, with four ID (60, 80, 100, and 120% of crop evapotranspiration ? ETc) in the plots; five (BTM) (Stimulate® at 0, 0.6, 1.2, 2.4, and 4.8 L ha-1 applied via irrigation system during the flowering stage and after the fruiting stage) in the subplots; and two crop seasons (hot season, 23 to 39 °C; and cold season, 15 to 30 °C) in the sub-subplots. The plants were under daily drip irrigation and spacing of 2.0 × 0.3 m. The variables evaluated were: gas exchange, water use efficiency, chlorophyll a and b, relative water, sugar, and amino acid contents, and fruit yield. The results showed that the ID of 60% ETc resulted in water deficit, denoted by increases in solute concentrations, whereas the ID of 80% and 100% resulted in plants with good performance for biochemical, physiological, and production parameters in both crop seasons. The hot season, ID of 120% ETc, and BTM of 2.4 L ha-1 are recommended for Pele de sapo melon crops, since they result in the best physiological responses and fruit yields. Os elementos mais absorvidos em termos de porcentagem na matéria seca da cebola são o potássio e nitrogênio. Com o objetivo de avaliar a produtividade e armazenamento pós-colheita de cultivares de cebola, em função de doses de nitrogênio foi realizado um experimento no período de setembro 2009 a fevereiro de 2010. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso no esquema fatorial 5x2, compreendendo cinco doses de nitrogênio (0; 60; 120, 180 e 240 kg ha-1) e duas cultivares (Alfa Tropical e Alfa São Francisco), com três repetições. Maiores produtividades comerciais foram obtidas nas doses de 161,4 kg ha-1 de N (Alfa Tropical) e 215,9 kg ha-1 de N (Alfa São Francisco) associadas às doses mais econômicas de 159,6 e 213,8 kg ha-1 de N, respectivamente. Com o aumento das doses de N, houve redução da produção de bulbos não comerciais ou refugos, sendo a menor produção de refugos estimada na dose de 185,4 kg ha-1 de N. Bulbos comerciais de maior massa fresca e diâmetro foram obtidos com o incremento das doses de nitrogênio; no entanto, aos 60 dias após cura, detectaram-se efeitos quadráticos com pontos de máxima perda de massa na dose de 149,0 kg ha-1 de N (38,4%). One trial was carried out to evaluate the influence of nitrogen levels and cultivars on yield and postharvest storage from September 2009 to February 2010. The experimental design was a completely randomized block in a 5x2 factorial scheme, composed of five nitrogen levels (0; 60; 120, 180 and 240 kg ha-1) and two cultivars (Alfa Tropical and Alfa São Francisco) with three replications. Highest commercial yields were obtained at doses of 161.4 kg ha-1 N (Alfa Tropical) and 216.2 kg ha-1 N (Alfa São Francisco) associated with economic doses of 159.6 and 213.8 kg ha-1 of N respectively. With increasing N levels, a gradual reduction in the production of non-commercial bulbs was verified, and a lower production of refuse was obtained when an estimated dose of 185.4 kg ha-1 of N was applied. Commercial bulbs of higher fresh mass and diameter were obtained with the increment of nitrogen. However, after 60 days of curing we detected quadratic effects with maximum fresh loss of bulb at the dose of 149.0 kg ha-1 N (38.4%).

Changes in soils management systems, including the application of green manure, are able to increase crop productivity. The aim of this study was to propose a soil management system with the use of green manure to improve the nutritional status and melon productivity in the submedian of the São Francisco Valley. The experiment was installed in Typic Plinthustalf and conducted in split plot. There were two soil tillage systems, tillage (T) and no tillage (NT), and three types of green manure (two vegetal cocktails: VC1- 75% legumes (L) + 25% non-legumes (NL); VC2- 25% L+ 75% NL and spontaneous vegetation (SV)). The experimental design was a randomised block with four replications. Fourteen species of legumes, grasses and oilseeds were used for the composition of the plant cocktails. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of mini tomato cultivars of determinate growth habit, in two crop seasons in the conditions of the Sub-Mid São Francisco Valley, Brazil.

Climate variations over the year and plant density tend to strongly affect the agronomic performance of carrot crops. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of the cultivar Brasilia in crops under mild (winter) and high (summer) temperatures. An experiment was conducted from May 2011 to February 2012, using a randomized block design and treatments arranged in split plot, with three replications. The plots consisted of planting seasons (winter and summer) and the subplots of plant spacing (4, 6, 8 and 10 cm). The height of plants presented a linear decrease, from 53.4 to 51.0 cm, with an increase in spacing in summer planting, while in winter the greatest height (50.7 cm) was obtained with spacing of 8.0 cm between plants. The lowest commercial yields were found in summer crops and with the widest spacing between plants. The smallest spacing between plants (4 cm) had yields of 45.9 Mg ha -1in summer and of 63.1 Mg ha-1 in winter crops. The winter planting had higher fresh root weight (89.9 g root - 1 ) compared to the summer (81.4 g root - 1 ), reaching higher weight with increasing plant spacing. Higher yields are achieved with plant spacing of 4 cm during winter. The carrot can be grown throughout the year in the Submiddle of the São Francisco Valley.
