Abstract Clematis graveolens Lindl., an indigenous climbing plant found in the Himalayan areas, is used by local communities for the treatment of neck tumors. The objective of this work is to examine the comprehensive metabolomic profile, antioxidant capability, in vitro and in silico anti-glioma effects on U-87 human glioma cell lines of the crude extract and fractions from C. graveolens. Liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (LC–MS/MS) was used to establish detailed metabolite profiling of C. graveolens. The assessment of cell cytotoxicity was conducted using MTT cell viability assay on U-87 and BHK-21. Through molecular docking studies, the mode of inhibition and binding interaction between identified compounds and target proteins were also determined to evaluate the in vitro results. The use of LC–MS/MS-based global natural products social (GNPS) molecular networking analysis resulted in the identification of 27 compounds. The crude extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and chloroform fraction exhibited significant inhibitory activity against the U-87 cell lines, with IC50 values of 112.0, 138.1, and 142.7 µg/mL, respectively. The ethyl acetate fraction exhibited significant inhibitory concentration for 2,2’-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) activity, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) activity and the metal chelation activity with IC50 value of 39.50 µg/mL, 32.27 µg/mL, and 53.46 µg/mL, respectively. The crude extract showed maximum total phenolic, and total flavonoid concentration measuring 338.7 µg GAE/mg, and 177.04 µg QE/mg, respectively. The findings of this study indicate that C. graveolens consists of a diverse range of active phytoconstituents that possess antioxidant and anti-glioma properties.

This research investigates the hydrothermal synthesis and annealing duration effects on nickel sulfide (NiS2) quantum dots (QDs) for catalytic decolorization of methylene blue (MB) dye and antimicrobial efficacy. QD size increased with longer annealing, reducing catalytic activity. UV–vis, XRD, TEM, and FTIR analyses probed optical, structural, morphological, and vibrational features. XRD confirmed NiS2's anorthic structure, with crystallite size growing from 6.53 to 7.81 ​nm during extended annealing. UV–Vis exhibited a bathochromic shift, reflecting reduced band gap energy (Eg) in NiS2. TEM revealed NiS2 QD formation, with agglomerated QD average size increasing from 7.13 to 9.65 ​nm with prolonged annealing. Pure NiS2 showed significant MB decolorization (89.85%) in acidic conditions. Annealed NiS2 QDs demonstrated notable antibacterial activity, yielding a 6.15 ​mm inhibition zone against Escherichia coli (E. coli) compared to Ciprofloxacin. First-principles computations supported a robust interaction between MB and NiS2, evidenced by obtained adsorption energies. This study highlights the nuanced relationship between annealing duration, structural changes, and functional properties in NiS2 QDs, emphasizing their potential applications in catalysis and antibacterial interventions.

Fasciolosis is a zoonotic infection and is considered a developing deserted tropical illness threatening ruminant productivity and causing financial losses. Herein, we applied immunoinformatics and biophysics studies to develop an epitopes vaccine against Fasciola hepatica using glutathione transferase and Cathepsin L-like proteinase as possible vaccine candidates. Using the selected proteins, B- and T-cell epitopes were predicted. After epitopes prediction, the epitopes were clarified over immunoinformatics screening, and only five epitopes, EFGRWQQEKCTIDLD, RRNIWEKNVKHIQEH, FKAKYLTEMSRASDI, TDMTFEEFKAKYLTE, and YTAVEGQCR were selected for vaccine construction; selected epitopes were linked with the help of a GPGPG linker and attached with an adjuvant through another linker, EAAAK linker. Cholera toxin B subunit was used as an adjuvant. The ExPASy ProtParam tool server predicted 234 amino acids, 25.86257 kDa molecular weight, 8.54 theoretical pI, 36.86 instability index, and −0.424 grand average of hydropathicity. Molecular docking analysis predicted that the vaccine could activate the immune system against F. hepatica. We calculated negative binding energy values. A biophysics study, likely molecular docking molecular dynamic simulation, further validated the docking results. In molecular dynamic simulation analysis, the top hit docked compounds with the lowest binding energy values were subjected to MD simulation; the simulation analysis showed that the vaccine and immune cell receptors are stable and can activate the immune system. MMGBSA of −146.27 net energy (kcal/mol) was calculated for the vaccine–TLR2 complex, while vaccine–TLR4 of −148.11 net energy (kcal/mol) was estimated. Furthermore, the C-ImmSim bioinformatics tool predicted that the vaccine construct can activate the immune system against F. hepatica, eradicate the infection caused by F. hepatica, and reduce financial losses that need to be spent while protecting against infections of F. hepatica. The computational immune simulation unveils that the vaccine model can activate the immune system against F. hepatica; hence, the experimental scientist can validate the finding accomplished through computational approaches.

In the backdrop of persistent haze occurrences affecting Southeast Asia and Pakistan's environmental landscape, this study delves into an in-depth analysis of atmospheric Particulate Matter (PM2.5) during intense haze episodes prevalent in Lahore throughout October, November, and December 2019. Employing advanced analytical techniques encompassing Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Raman Spectroscopy (RS), this investigation meticulously scrutinized PM2.5 samples. The findings showcased substantial variability in PM2.5 concentrations, peaking notably in December within the range of 43.2–301 μgm−3, averaging 168 ± 88.3 μgm−3, whereas lower concentrations ranging from 30.9 to 268 μgm−3, with an average of 106 ± 66.1 μgm−3, were observed in October. These concentrations displayed correlations with meteorological parameters, demonstrating a direct association with relative humidity and varying relationships with temperature and wind speed. The maximal PM2.5 concentrations aligned with lower temperatures (19.1 °C), while higher temperatures (26.1 °C) coincided with the lowest concentrations, illustrating distinct relationships with relative humidity percentages and wind speeds. Advanced spectroscopic analyses (RS and XRD) confirmed the presence of various minerals and elements within PM2.5 samples, encompassing calcite, calcium aluminosilicate, hematite, barite, quartz, gypsum, organic carbon, and nineteen elements identified by EDX. Morphological evaluations unveiled diverse particle shapes, from round, pointed, and irregular to rod-like, and agglomerate structures. SEM investigations delineated distinctive groups of anthropogenic and geogenic particles, emphasizing emission sources such as automobile emissions, crop residue burning, biomass burning, construction activities, soil dust, and industrial emissions. This comprehensive study lays the groundwork for source apportionment, vital for understanding consequential impacts on climate, visibility, and human health, fostering future investigations in this domain.

Highlights Recent progress in Zn–air batteries is critically reviewed. Current challenges of rechargeable Zn–air batteries are highlighted. Strategies for the advancement of the anode, electrolyte, and oxygen catalyst are discussed. Future research directions are provided to design commercial Zn–air batteries.

Abstract The synthesis of N′-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methylidene] 2-aminobenzohydrazide (H-AHMB) was performed by condensing O-vanillin with 2-aminobenzohydrazide and was characterized by FTIR, high resolution ESI(+) mass spectral analysis, 1H and 13C-NMR. The compound H-AHMB was crystallized in orthorhombic Pbca space group and studied for single crystal diffraction analysis. Hirshfeld surface analysis was also carried out for identifying short interatomic interactions. The major interactions H…H, O…H and C…H cover the Hirshfeld surface of H-AHMB. The metal complexes [M(AHMB)n] where M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were prepared from metal chlorides and H-AHMB ligand. The bonding was unambigously assigned using FTIR and UV/vis analysis. The synthesized ligand H-AHMB and its metal complexes were studied for β-glucuronidase enzyme inhibition. Surprisingly the metal complexes were found more active than the parent ligand and even the standard drug. Zn-AHMB shown IC50 = 17.3 ± 0.68 µM compared to IC50 = 45.75 ± 2.16 µM shown by d-saccharic acid-1,4-lactone used as standard. The better activity by Zn-AHMB implying zinc based metallodrug for the treatment of diseases associated with β-glucuronidase enzyme. The DPPH radical scavenging activities were also studied for all the synthesized compounds. The Co-AHMB complex with IC50 = 98.2 ± 1.78 µM was the only candidate to scavenge the DPPH free radicals.

This paper presents a thorough review of the main techniques used for wireless power transfer (WPT) in implantable medical devices (IMDs) with a specific focus on the techniques that employ implantable antennas for energy harvesting (electromagnetic (EM) WPT techniques). The techniques are first analysed and compared based on the IMD application, power transfer efficiency (PTE), transfer distance, implantation depth, implant size, operating frequency, and specific absorption rate (SAR). The study provides a critical analysis of the main WPT system’s as well as implantable antennas’ design parameters that control the PTE and hence the charging rate of the IMD. The investigated design parameters include the WPT TX-RX antennas’ gain, WPT-RX size, transfer distance, and the WPT TX-RX antennas’ alignment. Tutorial simulation examples are included to showcase the impact of these design parameters on the amount of power coupled to the IMD. The paper also discusses recent techniques used for improving the amount of power received by implantable antennas, and hence higher PTE and IMDs charging rate, namely, the use of implantable MIMO WPT-RX antennas to mitigate antennas misalignment and the use of metamaterial surfaces to focus the power emitted from WPT-TX antennas towards the implantable WPT-RX antennas. The findings and observations reported in this study serve as a valuable resource for designers and researchers to comprehend the effect of various WPT TX-RX antennas design parameters on PTE. The analysis and full-wave simulation examples, included in the paper, are shown very useful in understanding the challenges associated with WPT in IMDs and in proposing potential solutions.

Node localization is one of the most essential features of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Vavarious localization algorithms exist for densely deployed 3-D wireless sensor networks. However, for a sparse 3-D network, range-based localization is still a challenging task because it is difficult to find sufficient anchor nodes and distance information among nodes in a sparse 3-D network. To mitigate the sparseness issues in 3-D sensor networks, we present a component-based localization method in this paper in which we split the entire network into small overlapping sub-networks called components and assign local coordinates to each component. Then, we merge these small components to make a globally coordinated system. With a meager anchor ratio, we localize the whole network. We define merging conditions according to the number of common nodes, actual measured distances among nodes, and the calculated distance based on the local coordinates of the nodes. We assess how well our proposed algorithm performs by conducting extensive simulations. The outcomes confirm that the proposed algorithm works comparatively better in a sparse 3-D sensor network than in a densely deployed 3-D sensor network. Our algorithm localizes more than 83% of nodes at a node degree of 10 having 5% anchor ratio; however, other algorithms localize only 18%-79% in the same scenario.

The persistence of SMS spam remains a significant challenge, highlighting the need for research aimed at developing systems capable of effectively handling the evasive strategies used by spammers. Such research efforts are important for safeguarding the general public from the detrimental impact of SMS spam. In this study, we aim to highlight the challenges encountered in the current landscape of SMS spam detection and filtering. To address these challenges, we present a new SMS dataset comprising more than 68K SMS messages with 61% legitimate (ham) SMS and 39% spam messages. Notably, this dataset, we release for further research, represents the largest publicly available SMS spam dataset to date. To characterize the dataset, we perform a longitudinal analysis of spam evolution. We then extract semantic and syntactic features to evaluate and compare the performance of well-known machine learning based SMS spam detection methods, ranging from shallow machine learning approaches to advanced deep neural networks. We investigate the robustness of existing SMS spam detection models and popular anti-spam services against spammers’ evasion techniques. Our findings reveal that the majority of shallow machine learning based techniques and anti-spam services exhibit inadequate performance when it comes to accurately classifying SMS spam messages. We observe that all of the machine learning approaches and anti-spam services are susceptible to various evasive strategies employed by spammers. To address the identified limitations, our study advocates for researchers to delve into these areas to advance the field of SMS spam detection and anti-spam services.

AbstractThe prohibition of interfaith marriage is stipulated in the Indonesian Marriage Law where this practice is considered valid when conducted according to the laws of each respective religion and belief. This is supported by the Compilation of Islamic Law, regulating the prohibition of interfaith marriage. This research aimed to analyze the prohibition of interfaith marriage using a qualitative methodology with normatively on the regulations and Indonesian Supreme Court Decision Number 1977/K/PDT/2017. The results showed that Supreme Court Justices reject the review of the rules governing interfaith marriage submitted by a couple (Islam and Christianity). This was because the concept violated the Human Rights Law, the Marriage Law, the Compilation of Islamic Law, and the Fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council. Furthermore, the decision was in conflict with human rights concerning an individual’s freedom to have beliefs and form a family. Pluralist groups also viewed this prohibition as more of a political nature under the guise of religion. Therefore, many interfaith couples preferred unregistered marriage abroad before recording in the Civil Registry Office, which represented a form of legal smuggling in Indonesia as the impact of perplex on this issue.

Background and Objective: Femur fractures result in a high rate of mortality and morbidity. Objective was to compare effectiveness of percutaneous dynamic hip screw fixation technique (PC-DHS) and conventional open dynamic hip screw (DHS) in terms of mean operative time, wound size, pain scores, intraoperative blood loss, screening time, hospital stay at 2 weeks, mean full weight bearing mobilization at 6 weeks, mean hip Harris scores at 6 weeks and 3 months and mean radiological healing at 3 months in older patients having an intertrochanteric fracture of femur neck at tertiary care hospital. Methodology: The study design was a prospective observation study at the Department of Orthopedics, POF hospital. The study duration was 2 years (2018-2020). The sample size was 130 with 1:1 randomization in each group. Patients were selected through nonprobability sampling (lottery method) and divided into two groups; Group A underwent PC-DHS and Group B underwent conventional DHS procedure. Objectives Climate change is a major global issue with significant consequences, including effects on air quality and human well-being. This review investigated the projection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to air pollution under different climate change scenarios.Design This systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 flow checklist. A population-exposure-outcome framework was established. Population referred to the general global population of all ages, the exposure of interest was air pollution and its projection, and the outcome was the occurrence of NCDs attributable to air pollution and burden of disease (BoD) based on the health indices of mortality, morbidity, disability-adjusted life years, years of life lost and years lived with disability.Data sources The Web of Science, Ovid MEDLINE and EBSCOhost databases were searched for articles published from 2005 to 2023.Eligibility criteria for selecting studies The eligible articles were evaluated using the modified scale of a checklist for assessing the quality of ecological studies.Data extraction and synthesis Two reviewers searched, screened and selected the included studies independently using standardised methods. In the current study, seven (7) aurone derivatives (ADs) were synthesized and employed to in-vitro LOX and COX-2 assays, in-vivo models of acetic acid-induced mice writhing, formalin-induced mice paw licking and tail immersion test to evaluate their analgesic potential at the doses of 10 mg and 20 mg/kg body weight. Molecular docking was performed to know the active binding site at both LOX and COX-2 as compared to standard drugs. The present work was related to synthesis of graphene (0, 1.25 and 2.5 %) incorporation in cobalt-zinc ferrites by using sol–gel auto combustions method. The face center cubic (FCC) crystal structure and crystallite size varies from 16 to 18 nm was examined by XRD analysis. While as the irregular, non-uniform and flake like surface morphology of cobalt zinc/graphene nanocomposite (Co-Zn-G NCs) were observed via SEM images. In addition, the phase identification and presence of different functional groups such as M−O (metal oxide), OH, C-C, C = O and C = C were investigated by Raman spectroscopy and FTIR analyses. Further, I-V two probe method was used to observed the resistivity decrease (7.5x 108 to 2.5x 106 ohm-cm) and conductivity increased (1.2x10-9 to 3.8x10-7S/cm) of Co-Zn-G NCs. After that the thermoelectric behavior of Co-Zn-G NCs indicated that due to increase the temperature then seebeck coefficient decrease as vice versa. The overall result shows that the 2.5 % graphene incorporation in Co-Zn ferrites expressed the excellent electrical and thermoelectric properties. Abstract: The relationship between continuity and differentiability in graphical problems are two concepts that students are pivotal in understanding derivative concepts. However, researchers rarely pay attention to how students understand the relationship between Continuity and differentiability or vice versa. This study investigates students' understanding of the relationship between continuity and differentiability. This study is exploratory and focuses on the meanings students construct. The participants were 195 third-year undergraduate students from various Indonesian universities. A questionnaire and interview were used to collect data. Ten of the participants agreed to an in-depth interview for exploration and clarification. Thematic analysis was used to deduce patterns from participants' responses based on the findings. The results indicated that students construct three types of meanings when they solve problems: physical, analytical, and covariational. The findings could serve as a conceptual framework for future learning processes emphasizing continuity and differentiability. Abstrak: Hubungan antara kontinuitas dan diferensiasi dalam soal grafis merupakan dua konsep yang sangat penting bagi siswa dalam memahami konsep turunan. Namun peneliti jarang memperhatikan bagaimana siswa memahami hubungan antara Kontinuitas dan diferensiasi atau sebaliknya. Penelitian ini menyelidiki pengetahuan siswa tentang hubungan antara kontinuitas dan diferensiasi. Penelitian ini bersifat eksploratif dan berfokus pada makna yang dibangun siswa. Pesertanya adalah mahasiswa S1 tahun ketiga dari berbagai universitas di Indonesia yang berjumlah 195 orang. Kuesioner dan wawancara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Sepuluh peserta menyetujui wawancara mendalam untuk eksplorasi dan klarifikasi. Analisis tematik digunakan untuk menyimpulkan pola tanggapan peserta berdasarkan temuan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa siswa membangun tiga jenis makna ketika mereka memecahkan masalah: fisik, analitis, dan dan kovarian. Temuan ini dapat berfungsi sebagai kerangka konseptual untuk proses pembelajaran di masa depan yang menekankan kontinuitas dan diferensiasi.

Abstract Oropharyngeal cancer, a subset of head and neck cancer, is increasingly recognized as a unique clinical entity primarily influenced by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, particularly HPV-16. This review delves into the viral life cycle of HPV-16 and its interactions with host cells, with a specific focus on the crucial roles played by the viral oncoproteins E6 and E7. These oncoproteins drive cellular proliferation by targeting critical tumor suppressor proteins like p53 and Rb, resulting in uncontrolled cell growth and genomic instability. Furthermore, the significance of epigenetic modifications induced by HPV-16 and their implications is important for cancer progression. This comprehensive review provides valuable insights into the intricate molecular landscape of HPV-induced oropharyngeal cancer, shedding light on the development of targeted therapies and preventive strategies for this emerging global health concern. Abstract Background Tobacco bacterial wilt (TBW) caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is the most serious soil-borne disease of tobacco that significantly reduces crop yield. However, the limited availability of resistance in tobacco hinders breeding efforts for this disease. Results In this study, we conducted hydroponic experiments for the root expression profiles of D101 (resistant) and Honghuadajinyuan (susceptible) cultivars in response to BW infection at 0 h, 6 h, 1 d, 3 d, and 7d to explore the defense mechanisms of BW resistance in tobacco. As a result, 20,711 and 16,663 (total: 23,568) differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the resistant and susceptible cultivars, respectively. In brief, at 6 h, 1 d, 3 d, and 7 d, the resistant cultivar showed upregulation of 1553, 1124, 2583, and 7512 genes, while the susceptible cultivar showed downregulation of 1213, 1295, 813, and 7735 genes. Similarly, across these time points, the resistant cultivar had downregulation of 1034, 749, 1686, and 11,086 genes, whereas the susceptible cultivar had upregulation of 1953, 1790, 2334, and 6380 genes. The resistant cultivar had more up-regulated genes at 3 d and 7 d than the susceptible cultivar, indicating that the resistant cultivar has a more robust defense response against the pathogen. The GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that these genes are involved in responses to oxidative stress, plant–pathogen interactions, cell walls, glutathione and phenylalanine metabolism, and plant hormone signal transduction. Among the DEGs, 239 potential candidate genes were detected, including 49 phenylpropane/flavonoids pathway-associated, 45 glutathione metabolic pathway-associated, 47 WRKY, 48 ERFs, eight ARFs, 26 pathogenesis-related genes (PRs), and 14 short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase genes. In addition, two highly expressed novel genes (MSTRG.61386-R1B-17 and MSTRG.61568) encoding nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) proteins were identified in both cultivars at 7 d. Conclusions This study revealed significant enrichment of DEGs in GO and KEGG terms linked to glutathione, flavonoids, and phenylpropane pathways, indicating the potential role of glutathione and flavonoids in early BW resistance in tobacco roots. These findings offer fundamental insight for further exploration of the genetic architecture and molecular mechanisms of BW resistance in tobacco and solanaceous plants at the molecular level.

Abstract Presently, there is considerable emphasis on biological synthesis of nanoparticles containing bioactive reducing compounds with an aim to mitigate the harmful effects of pollutants. The approach under study is simple and ideal for the production of durable antimicrobial nanomaterials by novel single-step green synthesis of TiO2 metal oxide nanostructures using ginger and garlic crude aqueous extracts with bactericidal and catalytic activity. A variety of experimental techniques were used to characterize the synthesized nanomaterials. As demonstrated using x-ray diffraction and ultra-violet visible spectroscopy, the produced nanoparticles exhibited high absorption at 318 nm with size varying between 23.38 nm for ginger and 58.64 nm for garlic in biologically-reduced TiO2. At increasing concentrations (500, 1000 µg/50 µl), nanoparticles reduced with garlic exhibited enhanced bactericidal efficacy against multiple drug-resistant S. aureus and effectively decomposed toxic methylene blue (MB) dye. In conclusion, biologically-reduced TiO2 nanoparticles may prove an effective tool in the fight against microbial illnesses and drug resistance.

The fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller stands as a widely embraced choice for the task of automatic voltage regulation (AVR) when it comes to maintaining the voltage output of synchronous generators. Nevertheless, fine-tuning the FOPID controller presents a formidable challenge, mainly because it possesses five tuning gains, in contrast to the conventional PID controller, which has three gains. Consequently, this paper introduces a novel tuning tool tailored to the AVR system by utilizing the marine predators algorithm (MPA). To gauge the effectiveness of the proposed approach, two key evaluation criteria are employed: step response analysis and trajectory tracking analysis. The results of this research reveal that the MPA-FOPID controller demonstrates exceptional performance criteria, notably enhancing the AVR transient response in comparison to other FOPID controllers optimized through recent metaheuristic algorithms.

Abstract The environmental-friendly hydrothermal method has been carried out to synthesize Bi2WO6 and g-C3N4/PVP doped Bi2WO6 nanorods (NRs) by incorporating different concentrations of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) as well as a specified quantity of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Bi2WO6 doped with g-C3N4 provides structural and chemical stability, reduces charge carriers, degrades dyes, and, owing to lower bandgap energy, is effective for antibacterial, catalytic activity, and molecular docking analysis. The purpose of this research is the treatment of polluted water and to investigate the bactericidal behavior of a ternary system. The catalytic degradation was performed to remove the harmful rhodamine B (RhB) dye using NaBH4 in conjunction with prepared NRs. The specimen compound demonstrated antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) at both high and low concentrations. Higher doped specimens of g-C3N4/PVP-doped Bi2WO6 exhibited a significant improvement in efficient bactericidal potential against E. coli (4.55 mm inhibition zone). In silico experiments were carried out on enoyl-[acylcarrier-protein] reductase (FabI) and β-lactamase enzyme for E. coli to assess the potential of Bi2WO6, PVP doped Bi2WO6, and g-C3N4/PVP-doped Bi2WO6 NRs as their inhibitors and to justify their possible mechanism of action.

Electron cyclotron resonance heating method of Particle-in-Cell code was used to analyze heating phenomena, axial kinetic energy, and self-consistent electric field of confined electron plasma in ELTRAP device by hydrogen and helium background gases. The electromagnetic simulations were performed at a constant power of 3.8 V for different RF drives (0.5 GHz- 8 GHz), as well as for 1 GHz constant frequency at these varying amplitudes (1 V-3.8 V). The impacts of axial and radial temperatures were found maximum at 1.8 V and 5 GHz as compared to other amplitudes and frequencies for both background gases. These effects are higher at varying radio frequencies due to more ionization and secondary electrons production and maximum recorded radial temperature for hydrogen background gas was 170.41 eV. The axial kinetic energy impacts were found more effective in the outer radial part (between 0.03 and 0.04 meters) of the ELTRAP device due to applied VRF through C8 electrode. The self-consistent electric field was found higher for helium background gas at 5 GHz RF than other amplitudes and radio frequencies. The excitation and ionization rates were found to be higher along the radial direction (r-axis) than the axial direction (z-axis) in helium background gas as compared to hydrogen background gas. The current studies are advantageous for nuclear physics applications, beam physics, microelectronics, coherent radiation devices and also in magnetrons.

Dye-polluted wastewater poses a serious threat to humans’, animals’ and plants’ health, and to avoid these health risks in the future, the treatment of wastewater containing dyes is necessary before its release to environment. Herein, a biological approach is used; the textile azo dye brown 703 is degraded utilizing Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The bacterial strain was isolated from textile wastewater dumping sites in Mingora, Swat. The optimization for bacterial degradation was carried out on the nutrient broth medium, which was then subjected to a variety of environmental physicochemical conditions and nutritional source supplementation before being tested. Under micro-aerophilic circumstances, the maximum decolorization and degradation of dye occurred at a 20 ppm dye concentration within 3 days of incubation at a neutral pH and 38 °C. The decrease in the intensity of the absorbance peak in the UV–Vis spectrum was used to measure the extent of decolorization. Initially, 15 bacterial strains were isolated from the textile effluent. Out of these strains, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found to be the most potent degrading bacteria, with a degradation extent of around 71.36% at optimum conditions. The appearance and disappearance of some new peaks in the FT-IR analysis after the degradation of brown 703 showed that the dye was degraded by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The GC–MS analysis performed helped in identifying the degraded compounds of azo dye that were utilized in illustrating the under-study process of brown 703 degradation. The biodegradation brought about by Pseudomonas aeruginosa can be employed successfully in the future as an eco-friendly approach with far reaching results.

Innovation in improving the community's economy and preventing Covid-19 is necessary, especially in the traditional market ecosystem. This service aims to increase the economic development of traditional market entities and disseminate information on breaking the chain of the coronavirus. The location of the service is in Pakalu Market, Maros Regency. The implementation method uses the Participation Action Research (PAR) method by referring to Abdul Kadir's coffee shop as a partner. This one-month service resulted in several visitors, i.e. the enthusiasm and market awareness for using masks and washing hands increased along with the presence of flyers and banners with information on Covid-19 prevention at partner stores, where market visitors listened to the socialization provided. Furthermore, partners' coffee sales revenue also increased by 30%, whereas previously, partners did not reduce their income since the pandemic. The evaluation, promotion, and direct promotion of the service team with partners increase the attractiveness of partner shops that are different from other traders so that visitors who initially did not intend to buy coffee change their minds and buy partner merchandise. This service has succeeded in increasing economic shoppers and educating local market residents about the ways to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.

Geogebra is a mathematical software that can be used in mathematics, especially geometry, calculus, and dynamic algebra, with various features, especially visualization. Geogebra helps students identify and improve their visual skills in understanding mathematical concepts. This study aims to explore the mathematical technology knowledge of teachers based on Geo-Gebra applications in mathematics learning by integrating content and technology. This research is qualitative research that uses a single-case design to explore the teacher's mathematical technology knowledge and involved teachers (N = 8) from the field of mathematics at universities in the Central Region of Indonesia. Three types of data were collected during one semester, weekly observations, progress report description; and the developed learning design. This research shows that there are two categories of teachers' mathematical technology knowledge characteristics. First, moderate teachers produce simple designs and are still influ-enced by numerical and algebraic approaches. Second, expert teachers can use analytical skills to design step-by-step learning, involving animation to explain concepts, and the resulting designs are quite complex and structured. These two findings are useful for building teacher competencies regarding using GeoGebra ap-plication-based technology in learning mathematics.

In recent years, social media users have been increasing significantly, in January 2022 social media users in Indonesia reached 191 million people which has an increase of 12.35% from the previous year as many as 170 million people, With this massive increase every year, more and more people tend to seek and consume information through social media. Despite the many advantages provided by social media, However, the quality of information on social media is lower than in traditional news media there is a lot of hoax information spreading. With many disadvantages felt by hoax information, it has led to many research to detect hoax information on social media, especially information that is widely spread on Twitter. There are several previous researches that use various models using machine learning and also using deep learning to detect hoax. deep learning is very well used to perform several text classification tasks, especially in detecting hoax. The aim of this paper is to compare the LSTM and IndoBERT methods in detecting hoax using datasets taken from Twitter. In this study, two experiments work are conducted, LSTM and IndoBERT methods. The experimental results is average value obtained from experiments using 10-fold cross-validation. The IndoBERT model shows good performance with an average accuracy value of 92.07%, and the LSTM model provides an average accuracy value of 87.54%. The IndoBERT model can show good performance in hoax detection tasks and is shown to outperform the LSTM model which can provide the best average accuracy results in this study.

The literature on the Circular Economy (CE) has shown considerable expansion over recent years, with various studies striving to guide corporate entities in transitioning from linear to circular production paradigms. While larger businesses and multinational corporations have been a central focus, a significant gap exists in understanding the transformation journey of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) towards circularity. This research aims to enhance the existing body of knowledge by mapping the knowledge at the intersection of SMEs and the CE. This study utilizes an exploratory approach and leverages network analysis and content analysis to scrutinize 126 academic papers indexed on Scopus. The findings indicate that the field is bifurcated into nascent and early-growth stages. Although CE appears as the prevalent theme in most of the papers surveyed, an emerging group of academics has begun to delve into the domain of SMEs and CE. Further to identifying thematic clusters, this research explores the main references from these two phases by exploring their contents. The study provides a series of recommendations for future research alongside methodological guidelines for theoretical and empirical investigations.

Abstract Various concentrations of samarium‐grafted‐carbon nitride (Sm‐g‐C3N4) doped‐bismuth oxobromide (BiOBr) quantum dots (QDs) are prepared by the co‐precipitation method. Elemental evaluation, morphological, optical, and functional group assessment are studied employing characterization techniques. Based on the XRD pattern analysis, it is determined that BiOBr exhibits a tetragonal crystal structure. The electronic spectroscopy revealed an absorption peak for BiOBr at 315 nm and the bandgap energy (Eg) decreasing from 3.9 to 3.8 eV with the insertion of Sm‐g‐C3N4. The presence of vibrational modes related to BiOBr at 550 cm−1 is confirmed through FTIR spectra. TEM revealed that pure BiOBr possessed non‐uniform QDS, and agglomeration increased with the addition of Sm‐g‐C3N4. The catalytic performance of Sm‐g‐C3N4 into BiOBr (6 mL) in a neutral medium toward rhodamine B exhibited excellent results (99.66%). The bactericidal activity is evaluated against multi‐drug resistance (MDR) Escherichia coli once the surface area is increased by dopant and the measured inhibition zone is assessed to be 3.65 mm. Molecular docking results supported the in vitro bactericidal potential of Sm‐g‐C3N4 and Sm‐g‐C3N4 doped‐BiOBr as DNA gyraseE. coli inhibitors. This study shows that the novel Sm‐g‐C3N4 doped‐BiOBr is a better catalyst that increases specific semiconductor's catalytic activity (CA).

Drought stress is one of the serious threats to crop production. It causes significant deterioration of crop growth and yield by inducing oxidative stress. The biochar and arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi (AMF) can be an effective technique to overcome drought stress. Activated carbon biochar (BC) has the potential to improve soil water holding capacity while AMF inoculation can increase root surface area for better uptake of water. However, their combined application as an amendment against drought still needs scientific justification. That's why the current study was conducted using a combination of AMF and BC on spinach under no drought stress and drought stress. The treatments included i.e., 0, 0.25%, and 0.50%AMF-BC. The experiment was replicated thre times using completely randomized design (CRD). Results showed that 0.5%AMF-BC increase spinach shoot fresh weight (20.34%), shoot dry weight (21.23%), shoot length (3.37%), root fresh weight (16.10%), root dry weight (14.51%), and root length (38.03%) over control under drought stress. The 0.50%AMF-BC increased chlorophyll a (15.33%), chlorophyll b (30.17%), total chlorophyll (18.85%), photosynthetic rate (35.59%), transpiration rate (26.53%), stomatal conductance (13.97%) and internal CO2 concentration (37.15%) compared to control under drought stress. The improvement in N, P, and K concentration in root and shoot verified the efficacious functioning of 0.50%AMF-BC compared to control under drought stress. In conclusion, 0.50%AMF-BC is recommended for the mitigation of drought stress in spinach.

There has been a huge spike in the usage of social media platforms during the COVID-19 lockdowns. These lockdown periods have resulted in a set of new cybercrimes, thereby allowing attackers to victimise social media users with a range of threats. This paper performs a large-scale study to investigate the impact of a pandemic and the lockdown periods on the security and privacy of social media users. We analyse 10.6 Million COVID-related tweets from 533 days of data crawling and investigate users’ security and privacy behaviour in three different periods (i.e., before, during, and after the lockdown). Our study shows that users unintentionally share more personal identifiable information when writing about the pandemic situation (e.g., sharing nearby coronavirus testing locations) in their tweets. The privacy risk reaches 100% if a user posts three or more sensitive tweets about the pandemic. We investigate the number of suspicious domains shared on social media during different phases of the pandemic. Our analysis reveals an increase in the number of suspicious domains during the lockdown compared to other lockdown phases. We observe that IT, Search Engines, and Businesses are the top three categories that contain suspicious domains. Our analysis reveals that adversaries’ strategies to instigate malicious activities change with the country’s pandemic situation.

Brassica napus (B. napus) is susceptible to multiple abiotic stresses that can affect plant growth and development, ultimately reducing crop yields. In the past, many genes that provide tolerance to abiotic stresses have been identified and characterized. Peroxidase (POD) proteins, members of the oxidoreductase enzyme family, play a critical role in protecting plants against abiotic stresses. This study demonstrated a comprehensive investigation of the POD gene family in B. napus. As a result, a total of 109 POD genes were identified across the 19 chromosomes and classified into five distinct subgroups. Further, 44 duplicate events were identified; of these, two gene pairs were tandem and 42 were segmental. Synteny analysis revealed that segmental duplication was more prominent than tandem duplication among POD genes. Expression pattern analysis based on the RNA-seq data of B. napus indicated that BnPOD genes were expressed differently in various tissues; most of them were expressed in roots rather than in other tissues. To validate these findings, we performed RT-qPCR analysis on ten genes; these genes showed various expression levels under abiotic stresses. Our findings not only furnish valuable insights into the evolutionary dynamics of the BnPOD gene family but also serve as a foundation for subsequent investigations into the functional roles of POD genes in B. napus.

Wide-angle mechanical beam steering for on-the-move satellite communications is presented in this paper based on a closed-form pillbox antenna system. It includes three main parts: a fixed-feed part, which is a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) horn with an extended aperture attached to a parabolic reflector; a novel quasi-optical system, which is a single coupling slot alongside and without spacing from the parabolic reflector; and a radiating disc, which is a leaky-wave metallic pattern. To make the antenna compact, pillbox-based feeding is implemented underneath the metallic patterns. The antenna is designed based on a substrate-guided grounded concept using leaky-wave metallic patterns operating at 20 GHz. Beam scanning is achieved using mechanical rotation of the leaky-wave metallic patterns. The proposed antenna has an overall size of 340 × 335 × 2 mm3, a gain of 23.2 dBi, wide beam scanning range of 120°, from −60° to +60° in the azimuthal plane, and a low side lobe level of −17.8 dB at a maximum scan angle of 60°. The proposed antenna terminal is suitable for next-generation ubiquitous connectivity for households and small businesses in remote areas, ships, unmanned aerial vehicles, and disaster management.

Abstract Microplastic pollution has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem, living creatures, and human health. Several studies in Malaysia have provided baseline information on the existence of microplastics in surface water, ingestion by marine life and sediment. Also, humans are exposed to microplastic due to consumption of contaminated abiotic and biotic products, such as processed seafood. Nonetheless, knowledge is still scarce among Malaysian on the potential remediation and pollution management of microplastics, which poses a significant challenge to preserve a good environmental status. Green technologies also other alternative to mitigate the contamination of microplastics for sustainable future. Hence, this review aims to provide an overview of microplastic's occurrence, fate, and implications in Malaysia's aquatic environment. Detection of microplastics from the water surface, ingestion by aquatics, and sediment samples are highlighted. Available different treatment processes toward microplastic remediation are also discussed. Additionally, the potential challenges, current perspective for plastic management in Malaysia, as well as green strategies for reducing microplastic contamination are also put forward. The goal of this work is to improve the understanding of the seriousness of microplastic contamination in aquatic environments, thus encouraging key concerns that need to be investigated further.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and primary brain tumor with poor prognosis. They are removed by following tedious and life threatening surgeries. GBM stem cells (GSCs) are the main source of tumor recurrence after surgery. Hence, drugs are designed to overcome the recurrent glioblastoma malignant cells. Currently used chemotherapies are not cost effective as well as bear resistance. New and effective chemotherapeutic compounds are developed to overcome the intrinsic and acquired resistance. Dicoumarol derivative 3,3′-[(4-methoxyphenyl)methanediyl]bis(4-hydroxy-2Hchromen-2-one) (HL) and its triethylammonium salt triethylammonium3-[(4-methoxyphenyl)(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)methyl]-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-olate (L) were synthesized and characterized using spectral and analytical techniques. The deprotonated compound L was further studied structurally using single crystal analysis. Cytotoxic studies against human glioblastoma cells A172 and LN229 were investigated both dose and time dependently and compared with the cytotoxicity of normal human astrocytes (NHA). The IC50 value of HL against A172 was found to be lying within the range 2.68–0.95 μM whereas against LN229 the range was found to be 9.55–0.85 μM. Similarly, the compound L revealed range of 1.9–0.271 μM against A172 and 1.2–0.27 μM against LN229. Cell cycle arrest was observed in GBM cells treated with L compared to the control group, which suggested that L may trigger apoptosis in GBM cells according to cytotoxicity and flow cytometry results. The antioxidant activity of synthesized compounds was also investigated using DPPH free radicals.

Reasoning has been extensively studied by many experts. However, Research on student reasoning in trigonometric problem solving, particularly those related to logical thinking skills is still sorely needed. This study aimed to explore students' reasoning in solving trigonometric function problems regarding logical thinking skills. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach. The research subjects involved high school students in Palopo, Indonesia. Based on the logical ability test results, three subjects were selected, namely students with high, medium, and low logical abilities. Research instruments in mathematical problem-solving tasks and interview guidelines are valid and reliable. Data collection was carried out through task-based interviews and think-aloud. The results of the study: (1) the reasoning subjects with high and moderate logical abilities in solving trigonometric function problems are the same in every type of question, always starting with inductive reasoning and then doing deductive reasoning (2) the reasoning of subjects with high and medium logical abilities is different in solving trigonometric function problems in the initial identification. Subjects with low logical ability showed no mental activity in solving trigonometric function problems. The research finding is that the subject has a high logical ability and is solving trigonometric function problems first by inductive reasoning and then deductive reasoning. In general, it is concluded that students with high and moderate logical abilities use inductive and deductive thinking patterns interchangeably in solving trigonometric function problems.

Introduction: Ectopic pregnancy is a high-risk condition which can lead to mortality and morbidity if not diagnosed and managed promptly. Transvaginal Sonography (TVS) has a major role in diagnosing ectopic pregnancy. Certain signs if identified accurately on TVS examination can help predict or exclude ectopic pregnancy precisely. Aims & Objectives: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of TVS examination in detecting ectopic pregnancy. It also aims to highlight the need of TVS examination in routine antenatal care during early pregnancy. Place and duration of study: The study was carried out at Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore with the collaborated effort of Radiology Department and Department of Gynae & Obs. It was conducted over the period of three years from 1-1- 2017 to 31-12-2019. Material & Methods: In this observational study 160 women with suspected ectopic pregnancy were evaluated with ? - HCG levels and TVS examinations. Per-operative findings were taken as the gold standard for patients who underwent laparoscopy/laparotomy, and a trend of ?-HCG for patients with expectant/medical managements per RCOG guidelines. Statistical analyses were applied to find out diagnostic accuracy of TVS findings. The prospective study pattern with close follow-ups and a managing protocol according to the guidelines were required to reinforce the results. Results: The sensitivity of TVS in diagnosing Ectopic Pregnancies (EPs) in clinically suspected patients were found to be 92.5%, specificity 84.62%, positive predictive value 94.91%, negative predictive value 78.57% and accuracy rate was calculated as 90.62%. Most frequent signs present were empty uterine cavity, blob sign and embryo with or without cardiac activity. Conclusion: TVS examination is quite effective in predicting and excluding ectopic pregnancy in early gestation. Majority of patients with ectopic pregnancy had surgery as part of their management.

Abstract Background Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection increased the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. Identification of host factors required for HCV infection will help to unveil the HCV pathogenesis. Adaptive mutations that enable the replication of HCV infectious clones could provide hints that the mutation-carrying viral protein may specifically interact with some cellular factors essential for the HCV life cycle. Previously, we identified D559G mutation in HCV NS5B (RNA dependent RNA polymerase) important for replication of different genotype clones. Here, we searched for the factors that potentially interacted with NS5B and investigated its roles in HCV infection. Methods Wild-type-NS5B and D559G-NS5B of HCV genotype 2a clone, J6cc, were ectopically expressed in hepatoma Huh7.5 cells, and NS5B-binding proteins were pulled down and identified by mass spectrometry. The necessity and mode of action of the selected cellular protein for HCV infection were explored by experiments including gene knockout or knockdown, complementation, co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), colocalization, virus infection and replication, and enzymatic activity, etc. Results Mass spectrometry identified a number of cellular proteins, of which protein phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit B’delta (PPP2R5D, the PP2A regulatory B subunit) was one of D559G-NS5B-pulled down proteins and selected for further investigation. Co-IP confirmed that PPP2R5D specifically interacted with HCV NS5B but not HCV Core and NS3 proteins, and D559G slightly enhanced the interaction. NS5B also colocalized with PPP2R5D in the endoplasmic reticulum. Knockdown and knockout of PPP2R5D decreased and abrogated HCV infection in Huh7.5 cells, respectively, while transient and stable expression of PPP2R5D in PPP2R5D-knockout cells restored HCV infection to a level close to that in wild-type Huh7.5 cells. Replicon assay revealed that PPP2R5D promoted HCV replication, but the phosphatase activity and catalytic subunit of PP2A were not affected by NS5B. Conclusions PPP2R5D interactes with HCV NS5B and is required for HCV infection in cultured hepatoma cells through facilitating HCV replication.

Abstract A wide range of hard contaminants in wastewater is generated from different industries as byproducts of the organic compound. In this review, various metal oxide‐based nanomaterials are employed for the photocatalytic removal of malachite green (MG) dye from wastewater. Some cost‐effective and appropriate testing conditions are used for degrading these hard dyes to get higher removal efficiency. The effects of specific parameters are considered such as how the catalyst is made, how much dye is in the solution at first, how much nanocatalyst is needed to break down the dye, the initial pH of the dye solution, the type of light source used, the year of publications, and how long the dye has to be exposed to light to be removed. This study suggests that Scopus‐based core collected data employ bibliometric methods to provide an objective analysis of global MG dye from 2011 to 2022 (12 years). The Scopus database collects all the information (articles, authors, keywords, and publications). For bibliometric analysis, 658 publications are retrieved corresponding to MG dye photodegradation, and the number of publications increases annually. A bibliometric study reveals a state‐of‐art review of metal oxide‐based nanomaterials' effects on photocatalytic degradation of MG dyes (12 years).

Nanotechnology is the most advanced and rapidly progressing field of science and technology. It primarily deals with developing novelty in nanomaterials by understanding and controlling matter at the nanoscale level. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are the most prominent nanoparticles incorporated with wide-ranging applications, owing to their distinct characteristics. Different methods have been employed for nanoparticles synthesis like chemical method, physical method, photochemical method, top-down/bottom-up approach and biological methods. The positive impacts of silver nanoparticles have been observed in various economy-based sectors, including agriculture. The scientific curiosity about AgNPs in agriculture and plant biotechnology has shown optimum efficacy over the last few years. It not only enhances seed germination and plant growth, but also improves the quantum efficiency of the photosynthetic process. AgNPs play a vital role in agriculture by having several applications that are crucial for ensuring food security and improving crop production. Moreover, they also act as nano-pesticides, providing sufficient dose to the target plants without releasing unnecessary pesticides into the environment. Nano-fertilizers slowly release nutrients to the plants, thereby preventing excessive nutrient loss. AgNPs are utilized for effective and non-toxic pest management, making them an excellent tool for combating pests safely. They combine either edible or non-biodegradable polymers for active food packaging. In addition, AgNPs also possess diverse biological properties such as antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal activities, which protect plants from hazardous microbes. The aim of this review is to comprehensively survey and summarize recent literature regarding the positive and negative impacts of AgNPs on plant growth, as well as their agricultural applications.

In this study, MoO3 nanostructures were prepared, doped with various concentrations of graphene oxide (2 and 4% GO) and a fixed amount of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) using the co-precipitation method. The motive of this study was to examine the catalytic and antimicrobial efficacy with evidential molecular docking analyses of GO/PVP-doped MoO3. GO and PVP were utilized as doping agents to reduce the exciton recombination rate of MoO3 by providing more active sites that increase the antibacterial activity of MoO3. The prepared binary dopant (GO and PVP)-dependent MoO3 was used as an effective antibacterial agent against Escherichia coli (E. coli). Notably, 4% GO/PVP-doped MoO3 showed good bactericidal potential against E. coli at higher concentrations in comparison to ciprofloxacin. Furthermore, in silico docking revealed the possible inhibitory impact of the synthesized nanocomposites on folate and fatty acid synthesis enzymes, dihydrofolate reductase and enoyl-[acyl carrier protein] reductase, respectively.

Abstract The development of efficient catalysts with a large number of active sites, tunable bandgap, and large surface area has been very challenging. In addition, a significant bottleneck in the application of catalysts for water treatment is their dissolution under extreme conditions, such as highly acidic or highly alkaline conditions that lead to poor application of the reported materials in real‐world applications. In this study, the lanthanum (La)‐doped molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets are reported for efficient breakdown of toxic pollutants from wastewater under a wide pH range from strongly alkaline to strongly acidic solutions. The La‐MoS2 nanosheets (NSs) are prepared by a facile hydrothermal approach using a two‐step methodology. A redshift is observed upon La doping, indicating that the bandgap is lowered after La doping in MoS2. The changes in bandgap and electronic structure are further investigated using the density functional theory (DFT), which reveal that doping of La introduces new states within the bandgap region, allowing for further induced energy transitions. The La‐MoS2, having a doping concentration of 2%, exhibits the highest catalytic activity against methylene blue (MB) in neutral, acidic, and alkaline solutions, as well as substantial inhibitory activity for bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). In summary, the modified catalyst provides a pathway to design highly efficient catalysts for all pH range water treatment as well as good activity against microbes.

Objective: To identify patterns in cases of acute toxicity reported at an urban poison control centre. Method: The cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted at the National Poison Control Centre, Karachi, and comprised data from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021. Data was collected from the institutional database which is part of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi. Data of all patients diagnosed with acute poisoning was included. Data was analysed using SPSS 22. Results: Of the 4,936 cases reported, 2,449(49.6%) were males and 2,487(50.3%) were females. Pesticide was the most common cause of toxicity 1254(25.4%). Regarding outcomes, 351(7.1%) patients expired, 3,585(72.6%) were discharged after appropriate treatment, 366(7.4%) were given outpatient and psychiatric referrals, and 634(12.8%) patients left against medical advice. Conclusion: The most common agent causing toxicity was pesticides, and overall mortality across the study period was 7.1%. Key Words: Poisoning, Toxicology, Pesticides, Forensic toxicology.

This research lays the groundwork for preparing graphene oxide (GO)-doped CaO nanocomposites for efficient antibacterial potential and dye degradation. The study aimed to reduce the recombination rate of the electron hole (e−/h+) of CaO and improve charge transfer. This issue can be minimized by doping high-surface area GO into CaO quantum dots (QDs). Herein, the one-pot co-precipitation technique has prepared various concentrations (1, 3, and 5 wt%) of GO-doped CaO. Characterization techniques were used to investigate optical, elemental analysis, microstructural, functional, and morphological properties. The addition of GO into QDs showed excellent catalytic activity (CA) to control sample CaO against methylene blue (MB) in basic and acidic media compared to the neutral media. The synergistic effect of morphological alternation attributed to an increase in the mechanism of CA upon doping. Various concentrations of GO to QDs promised remarkable bactericidal potency against Escherichia coli.

In this research work, pristine and various concentrations (2.4 wt%) of graphene oxide (GO)/carbon sphere (CS)–doped Al2O3 nanostructures (NSs) were synthesized with the chemical sol–gel method. Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) exhibits quick recombination of electrons and holes with a low specific surface to limit catalytic and antibacterial activities. Al2O3 doped with CS is good in wastewater treatment and reduces the size of NSs. The incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) into Al2O3 at different concentrations (2 and 4 wt%) enhances both the structural and chemical stabilities of the resulting material while concurrently decreasing the number of charge carriers and reducing the band gap energy. This modified Al2O3-GO composite exhibits promising potential for utilization in dye degradation and antibacterial activity. A series of characterizations were performed to investigate the structural, morphological, and optical properties. The NSs exhibited excellent catalytic activity (CA) against rhodamine B (RhB) dye in acidic, basic, and neutral media. The antimicrobial activity was tested against Escherichia coli. Pairs of electrons and holes are the primary building blocks for the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which causes bacteria to die. The significant inhibition zones against E. coli were calculated to be approximately 5.65 mm when compared to ciprofloxacin. Moreover, in silico investigations have revealed the possible inhibitory impact of produced nanomaterials (GO/CS-doped Al2O3) on DNA gyrase and FabI enzymes of fatty acid biosynthesis.

Abstract Modern‐day society requires advanced technologies based on renewable and sustainable energy resources to face the challenges regarding environmental remediation. Solar‐inspired photocatalytic applications for water purification, hydrogen and oxygen evolution, carbon dioxide reduction, nitrogen fixation, and removal of bacterial species seem to be unique solutions based on green and efficient technologies. Considering the unique electronic features and larger surface area, 2D photocatalysts have been broadly explored for the above‐mentioned applications in the past few years. However, their photocatalytic potential has not been optimized yet to the adequate level of practical and commercial applications. Among many strategies available, surface and interface engineering and the hybridization of different materials have revealed pronounced potential to boost the photocatalytic potential of 2D materials. This feature review recapitulates recent advancements in engineered materials that are 2D for various photocatalysis applications for environmental remediation. Various surface and interface engineering technologies are briefly discussed, like anion–cation vacancies, pits, distortions, associated vacancies, etc., along with rules and parameters. In addition, several hybridization approaches, like 0D/2D, 1D/2D, 2D/2D, and 3D/2D hybridization, etc., are also deeply investigated. Lastly, the application of these engineered 2D materials for various photocatalytic applications, challenges, and future perspectives is extensively explored.

The emergence of multi-drug resistance (MDR) in aquatic pathogens and the presence of cationic dyes are the leading causes of water contamination on a global scale. In this context, nanotechnology holds immense promise for utilizing various nanomaterials with catalytic and antibacterial properties. This study aimed to evaluate the catalytic and bactericidal potential of undoped and Sr-doped Cr2O3 nanostructures (NSs) synthesized through the co-precipitation method. In addition, the morphological, optical, and structural properties of the resultant NSs were also examined. The optical bandgap energy of Cr2O3 has been substantially reduced by Sr doping, as confirmed through extracted values from absorption spectra recorded by UV-Vis studies. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs illustrate that the composition of Cr2O3 primarily consisted of agglomerated, irregularly shaped NSs with a morphology resembling nanoflakes. Moreover, the presence of Sr in the lattice of Cr2O3 increased the roughness of the resulting NSs. The catalytic activity of synthesized NSs was analyzed by their reduction ability of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye in the dark under different pH conditions. Their antibacterial activity was evaluated against MDR Escherichia coli (E. coli). Sr doping increased antibacterial efficiency against MDR E. coli, as indicated by inhibition zone measurements of 10.15 and 11.75 mm at low and high doses, respectively. Furthermore, a molecular docking analysis was conducted to determine the binding interaction pattern between NSs and active sites in the target cell protein. The findings corroborated antimicrobial test results indicating that Sr-Cr2O3 is the most effective inhibitor of FabH and DHFR enzymes.
