El presente manuscrito da una muestra de la coopetencia, como fenómeno emergente entre los comercios pequeños que se encuentran en zonas geográficas determinadas, ya sea por tradición u otra circunstancia, y que buscan atraer clientes a su negocio mediante el uso y la implementación de estrategias comerciales. En primer lugar, nos encontraremos con una investigación teórica, que brinda un panorama general sobre los conceptos utilizados para generar las diferentes dinámicas dentro del modelado en Netlogo y que nos permiten establecer una serie de reglas que determinan el comportamiento de los agentes compradores y vendedores, con base principalmente en la experiencia regional de México. Posteriormente, se describen las observaciones y los resultados estadísticos obtenidos —gracias al análisis de comportamiento que el programa Netlogo generó—, que muestran la sobrevivencia de los agentes vendedores a lo largo del tiempo y que está en correlación con la maximización de utilidad de los agentes compradores. Finalmente, se contrastan estos hallazgos con otros estudios teóricos y se genera una discusión que nos permite llegar a la conclusión de que la coopetencia es un fenómeno emergente del cual debe surgir una mayor investigación para comprender la fenomenología.

En un sistema biológico, las interacciones entre los organismos pueden ser interespecíficas, cuando se relacionan organismos de la comunidad de diferente especie, o intraespecíficas. Estas interacciones, que pueden ser favorables, desfavorables o indiferentes para el crecimiento, la supervivencia, y/o la reproducción de los organismos, pueden determinar el área de distribución y la situación territorial de la especie, o tener un papel esencial en la evolución temporal de las poblaciones. Amensalismo, comensalismo, depredación, mutualismo, parasitismo, competencia y canibalismo son diferentes tipos de interacciones. Éstas pueden establecerse a lo largo del tiempo y en el espacio, siendo normalmente su ámbito de actuación local por proximidad o por contacto directo. Se pueden considerar como propias de las especies o como comportamientos probables, que se pueden dar o no, según como sean las condiciones ambientales en las que se encuentren los organismos. Todo esto hace que la modelización matemática más tradicional sufra de muchas limitaciones en este contexto, tanto para el tratamiento de las discontinuidades en el espacio y el tiempo, como para las adaptaciones o cambios repentinos que pueden sufrir los organismos como respuesta a los diversos factores a los que se puedan ver expuestos. El enfoque o perspectiva de los modelos computacionales basados en agentes (ABM) puede considerarse interesante en la representación de estas interacciones. El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar cómo se puede investigar y tratar con interacciones biológicas a través de ABM. En primer lugar se presentan algunos ejemplos de ABM implementados en un entorno de programación de acceso abierto y disponible desde la web, la plataforma multiagente NetLogo. A continuación, escogida una interacción intraespecífica particular, como es el canibalismo microbiano que exhibe la bacteria Bacillus subtilis, se presenta el caso de estudio, con el desarrollo del diseño conceptual del ABM para su representación, su implementación en NetLogo, y un análisis de sensibilidad unifactorial de alguno de sus parámetros para explorar la respuesta del sistema virtual bajo distintos escenarios de simulación. El simulador obtenido será manejado en el entorno académico (su origen fue un Trabajo Final de Grado de la titulación Ingeniería de Sistemas Biológicos de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), será útil tanto en la docencia como para la realización de investigaciones vinculadas con estas interacciones microbianas, abriendo expectativas para futuras aplicaciones prácticas.

The increase in world population and the increasing demand for food pose a challenge for agricultural systems. In agriculture, the water used in irrigation is crucial throughout the crop cycle to ensure favorable yields and production quality. However, agricultural activities represent approximately 70% of freshwater consumption globally, and in the context of climate change, the medium and long-term availability of this resource is uncertain. Additionally, restrictions on transporting water to areas suitable for agriculture limit its potential exploitation. In this context, control systems can provide solutions from modeling and control to improve the performance of irrigation systems. This work addresses two of the current challenges of agricultural systems focused on applying the resource once it is close to the crop (i.e., water transport is outside the scope of this work). On the one hand, the interpretation of the interactions between the crop and the soil when the terrain is heterogeneous (in its composition and topography). On the other hand, the efficient monitoring of a large area crop when deploying sensors under economic and technical restrictions. This work starts with identifying the essential components of agricultural systems to propose an agent-based model (ABM). This model interprets the land heterogeneity and allows the monitoring of large crops. Then, efficient monitoring is achieved with the adaptation of an estimator based on the Kalman filter (KF). The significant advantage of the agent-based model is its flexibility to incorporate information from different sources and its scalability based on the topography of the terrain to improve the interpretation of water movements. Finally, the agent-based framework is integrated with a model predictive control (MPC) system to show the potential for water savings when environmental and economic constraints. As case studies, typical scenarios of Colombian topography are considered, and the computational tool is developed in Matlab and Python. Doctor en Ingeniería Doctorado

En esta investigación se propone la construcción de un modelo basado en agentes, para estudiar el impacto que tiene la cohesión social y la victimización en el proceso de la toma de decisión de un criminal. En el modelado se consideraron los aspectos criminológicos establecidos desde las teorías del desorden social y de las actividades rutinarias en una arquitectura de inteligencia artificial PECS (Physis, Emotion, Cognitive, Social), con el objeto de articular todas las dimensiones que intervienen en la construcción de la decisión. La cohesión social será representada por redes sociales siguiendo el experimento de Watts - Strogatz, y la victimización como resultado acumulado de victimizaciones previas. Los resultados obtenidos de la simulación permitieron replicar las conductas sociales características del actor criminal, ya que en ellos se resaltan la importancia que tiene la percepción de la cohesión social sobre la memoria de victimización generada por eventos criminales pasados, elementos que presentan consistencia con la evidencia empírica de los principios teóricos establecidos en el desorden social y las acciones rutinarias.

In this work we study the knowledge acquisition process in a teaching-learning scenario that takes place within the classroom. We explore two complementary approaches, which include classroom observations and student surveys, and the formulation of theoretical models through the use of Statistical Physics tools. We develop an analytical model and a set of dynamics agent-based models that allow us to understand global behaviors, as well as to follow individual trajectories in the knowledge acquisition process. As a proxy of the final achievements of the students we use their final grade, allowing us to assess the validity of our approach. Our models, supported by observations and surveys, reproduce fairly well the process of acquiring knowledge of the students. This work sheds light on the internal dynamics of the classroom and allows us to understand some global aspects of the teaching-learning process., Comment: 40 pages

The choreography of pedestrian movement is important to many domains of interest, particularly in the geographical sciences. Agent-based models have become a popular tool for simulating movement, allowing experimentation with scenarios in computer models that might not be amenable to real-world investigation. The fidelity of agent-based movement models is naturally most acute when the models driving their synthetic characters reproduce the geography of their behaviors appropriately: by placing people in the right places, at the right times, doing the right things, in the right contexts. Most simulation environments for moving agent pedestrians, however, rely on simple, abstract physical heuristics to drive synthetic characters and they focus on generating plausible coarse-grained movement patterns, which might not always map to real-world pedestrian behavior. Moreover, existing approaches often produce serious mechanical artifacts in simulation. I contend that agent-based models of pedestrian movement can benefit more fully from a comprehensive infusion of realistic movement behavior and I present the case for, and proven usefulness of, a geographic engine for driving synthetic actors in simulation. Whereas many existing approaches use particle physics, my approach is sourced in theory and observation, modeling lower, medium-, and higher level behavioral geographies for perceiving and sorting objects, route planning and wayfinding, orientation and locomotion, physical steering, mediating interactions, and determining the space and time for scheduling and realizing activities, with the results that the scheme that I present can automatically generate realistic-looking and realistic-behaving synthetic pedestrians for experimentation. Los modelos basados en agentes (MBA) constituyen una nueva generación de métodos computacionales que permiten modelar la estructura de un sistema complejo y simular su evolución dinámica a lo largo del tiempo. El uso de los mba constituye una tendencia metodológica en expansión en las ciencias sociales contemporáneas; sin embargo, continúan siendo poco conocidos y enseñados en el campo sociológico, de modo que constituyen una alternativa metodológica minoritaria entre los investigadores sociales. El propósito de este trabajo es introducir a los científicos sociales en las ideas centrales de los modelos basados en agentes a partir de su articulación con ciertos problemas teóricos y metodológicos cruciales de las ciencias sociales. La primera sección problematiza la relación entre los modelos basados en agentes y los sistemas complejos en una perspectiva epistemológica crítica. Posteriormente, se analizan los aportes de los mba a la investigación social, y en la tercera sección se evalúa críticamente su aplicación en el marco de una disciplina particular: la ciencia política. Finalmente, se desarrolla un ejemplo práctico de una simulación basada en agentes a partir del trabajo clásico de Thomas Schelling sobre segregación racial., Agent-based models (abm) constitute a new generation of computer based methods that allow the modeling of the structure of a complex system and simulation of its dynamic evolution over time. The use of abm constitutes a methodological tendency expanding in contemporary social sciences; however, these models remain quite unknown and not frequently taught in the field of sociology. They therefore represent a minor methodological alternative among social researchers. The purpose of this work is to introduce social scientists to the main ideas of the agent-based models as they are articulated with certain theoretical and methodological problems of the social sciences. The first section puts into question the relationship between agent-based models and complex systems in a critical epistemological perspective. Subsequently, the contributions of abm to social research are analyzed, and in the third section, their application in the framework of a specific discipline, political science, is assessed. Finally, a practical example of a simulation based on agents from the classic work of Thomas Schelling about racial segregation is developed.
