17. Synthesis of Environmentally Friendly Nanoporous Monolithic Carbon Aerogels via Ambient Pressure Drying for High-Temperature Thermal Insulators.

Abstract

As a promising high-temperature thermal insulation, carbon aerogel is generally prepared by the carbonization of an organic aerogel. However, the preparation processes of solvent exchange and supercritical drying are complicated and contaminated, which hinder their large-scale production and application in the field of civil high-temperature thermal insulators. Herein, the nanoporous carbon aerogels were prepared by an environmentally friendly method of ambient pressure drying without solvent exchange with the usage of water as the solvent, acetic acid as an acid catalyst, and biopolymer chitosan as a cross-linking agent and supporting template. Through the polymerization and hydrogen bonds of chitosan with precursors to strengthen the gel network, carbon aerogels exhibit good monolithic shape (130 × 130 × 18 mm) with nanoparticle size (43–107 nm) and low density (0.187–0.395 g/cm3), leading to a low thermal conductivity (0.09592 W/m·K) and high compressive strength (11.50 MPa) at the density of 0.395 g/cm3. Notably, by the copyrolysis of organic fiber-reinforced organic aerogel composite, a crack-free carbon aerogel composite (0.244 g/cm3) was prepared with enhanced mechanical properties (compressive strength of 1.63 MPa at 10% strain and bending strength of 4.27 MPa) and low thermal conductivity (0.107 W/m·K at 1100 °C). This work may provide an environmentally friendly method for the industrialized preparation of reliable nanoporous carbon aerogels for high-temperature thermal protection components. Abstract

Soil pH is one of the important properties of soil. The quick and accurate determination of soil pH is key to realizing precision agriculture and understanding soil characteristics and fertility. Previous research established a soil pH measurement method based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technology combined with random forest (RF) (the determination coefficient of cross validation (Rc2) was 0.9995, the root mean square error of cross validation (RMSEC) was 0.0201; the determination coefficient of prediction (Rp2) was 0.9687, and the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) was 0.1285). This study explored the impact of three different spectral preprocessing methods (first derivative (D1st), multivariate scattering correction (MSC), and standard normal variation (SNV)) on the prediction performance of the RF correction model using 21 soil samples, as in the previous study. The input variables were optimized through variable importance thresholds. Then, a method was established based on mid-infrared (MIR) technology combined with RF for the qualitative analysis of soil pH (Rc2 = 0.9887, RMSEC = 0.0875, Rp2 = 0.9208, RMSEP = 0.1476, and the mean relative error (MRE) was 0.0168). Meanwhile, a soil pH measurement method based on a LIBS-MIR spectral data fusion strategy combined with RF was further established. The results showed that the RF calibration model based on intermediate spectral data fusion showed better prediction abilities (Rc2 = 0.9997, RMSEC = 0.0163, Rp2 = 0.9809, RMSEP = 0.0645, and MRE = 0.0065). Compared with a spectral analysis method based on LIBS or MIR alone, this study provides new ideas and new methods for the rapid, accurate, and quantitative analysis of soil pH. Since the founding of the PRC, ideology in China has been undergoing profound changes. The Chinese government has revised and added new elements to the official system of ideas of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism during the fifty and more years of state construction. The developments towards pragmatism in the search of Chinese ideology have a strong impact on the formation and implementation of Chinese foreign policy. Abstract

The central argument of this paper is that Chinese economic diplomacy not only improves its political relations with the ASEAN countries, but also promotes regional economic cooperation and integration. This paper is organized into two parts. The first part starts with a review of the Chinese foreign policy changes in order to show how Beijing adjusted its foreign policy to pursue its economic and political interest. It also examines the political and institutional efforts made by China to forge the coming Free Trade Area (FTA) with ASEAN. The second part studies China-ASEAN trade relations from three aspects: the adjustment of Chinese industrial structure, foreign direct investment to both sides and the formation of a production network with China as the center. While difficulties and problems are unavoidable in the construction of the CAFTA, with the active efforts made by China and the enhanced co-operation between China and ASEAN, the building of the CAFTA is moving towards fulfillment.

Abstract

This paper studies the Chinese perceptions of the EU through a review of Chinese academic journal articles in the field of international politics from 2000 and 2005. The paper points out that China is changing as a result of the state-building and the interactions with the outside world in the past twenty and more years. The paper goes further to study the changes of China and their impacts on its relations with the EU as well as its perceptions of the EU. The journal articles reviewed are based on the four most important Chinese academic journals but not limited to these journals. The Chinese perceptions of the EU cover mainly three important issues: the EU as a pole in the future international political structure; the EU-US relations; and the EU-China relations. By doing research of the Chinese perceptions, the paper attempts to offer some valuable information on how the Chinese understand the EU, with the purpose that this may help promote mutual understanding between the EU and China, and further enhance the bilateral partnership.
