Due to light absorption and scattering underwater images suffer from low contrast, color distortion, blurred details, and uneven illumination, which affect underwater vision tasks and research. Therefore, underwater image enhancement is of great significance in vision applications. In contrast to existing methods for specific underwater environments or reliance on paired datasets, this study proposes an underwater multiscene generative adversarial network (UMGAN) to enhance underwater images. The network implements unpaired image-to-image translation between the underwater turbid domain and the underwater clear domain. It has a great enhancement impact on several underwater image types. Feedback mechanisms and a noise reduction network are designed to optimize the generator and address the issue of noise and artifacts in GAN-produced images. Furthermore, a global–local discriminator is employed to improve the overall image while adaptively modifying the local region image effect. It resolves the issue of over- and underenhancement in local regions. The reliance on paired training data is eliminated through a cycle consistency network structure. UMGAN performs satisfactorily on various types of data when compared quantitatively and qualitatively to other state-of-the-art algorithms. Similar to traditional luxuries, affordable luxuries enjoy a high level of perceived product quality and perceived social status, but the effectiveness of price promotions of purchasing affordable luxury products is different from that of traditional luxuries. In order to further investigate the purchases of affordable luxuries, we used event-related potential (ERP) technology to reveal the formation of the purchase intention toward affordable luxuries at original prices (high or low) and current prices (discounted or non-discounted). Compared with the high-priced affordable luxury without a price promotion and the low-priced affordable luxury with a price promotion, consumers showed a stronger intention toward the high-priced affordable luxury with a price promotion, by weighing up three factors, perceived product quality, perceived social status, and perceived monetary saving at the behavioral level. A shorter reaction time emerged in the price promotion condition than in the absent price promotion condition when the original price was low. At the neural level, a decrease in N2 amplitude was found in the high original price and discounted current price condition than the high original price and non-discounted current price condition and the low original price and discounted current price condition, respectively, suggesting that the price information of the latter two conditions might not be the expectation information of subjects, and thus, the enhanced conflict is produced. The high-priced affordable luxury product without a price discount evoked a more positive LPP amplitude than the high-priced affordable luxury product with price promotions or than the low-priced affordable luxury item without price promotions, demonstrating that participants could regard the former as an evaluative inconsistent condition and the latter as evaluative consistent conditions. There is a connection between the frontal negative slow wave (FNSW) and the arousal inhibition in the hedonic purchase context. To calculate the FNSW (400–800 ms), event-related potentials (ERPs) method was applied to depict the neural substrates on prudent and impulsive consumers' behaviors within various states of promotion. Promotion types include the pure price promotion and the mixed promotion (a mixture of a charitable donation and a discount). Behaviorally, consumers response more quickly in the pure price promotion condition and they express a preference for the mixed promotion. More importantly, a larger FNSW emerged in the impulsive consumers than the prudent, suggesting that the former might tend to control their eagerness to consume hedonic items. Compared with the price promotion as the worse option, the mixed promotion as the better option caused more perceptual conflict, leading to an increase in N2 amplitude. It suggests that consumers incline to reject the worse offers. These results also reveal that people primarily have to search negative promotion information by their insight and subsequently impulsive consumers inhibit the responses to the promotion information. Due to consuming hedonic products unnecessary to basic well-being, consumers need justifications for pleasure. However, different justifications have differential influences in promoting hedonic purchases, such as price and quantity promotions (PP and QP), the difference being that the latter requires purchasing additional units to get the same discount as the former. In the present study, even-related potentials (ERPs) was applied to reveal the timing of brain activities to further understand how promotion information consisting of promotion type (PP and QP) and discount depth, deep and shallow discounts (DD and SD) on hedonic products was processed. Behaviorally, consumers were more willing to purchase items in PP and DD conditions than QP and SD conditions, respectively, and spent more time making final purchase decisions in QP and DD condition or PP and SD condition compared to PP and DD condition. Neurophysiologically, DD automatically recruited more attentional resources than SD and led to a higher P2 amplitude. QP and DD condition or PP and SD condition evoked a larger N2 amplitude and enhanced perceptual conflict compared to PP and DD condition. During late stage, PP and DD elicited a more positive LPP amplitude in contrast to QP and SD, respectively, indicating that people have stronger purchase intention and positive affect in PP and DD contexts. • Using ERPs to study the impact of empathy with nature on green purchase behavior. • Empathy with nature could effectively promote consumers' green purchase behavior. • Empathy with nature could reduce the decision conflict when buying green products. • Empathy with nature could affect consumers' product preferences. Due to the attitude-behavior gap in green consumption, it is necessary to conduct more research on consumers' actual purchase behavior. At present, few studies have been conducted on the impact of empathy with nature on green purchase behavior. This research explored the underlying neural mechanism of empathy with nature on consumers' green purchase decisions by applying the event-related potentials (ERPs) approach. Behaviorally, compared with the control group, the experimental group had a higher purchase rate of green products and spent less time when buying green products. For the experimental group, buying green products required less time than buying traditional products. At the neural level, when buying green products, the N2 and N400 amplitudes of the experimental group were smaller than those of the control group. For the experimental group, buying green products elicited a smaller N2 amplitude than buying traditional products. These findings suggested that empathy with nature could reduce consumers' decision conflict when buying green products, thereby promoting consumers' green purchase behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The time course of ERPs responses to the expertise congruency effect in ads was examined. • The cognitive process comprises an early conflicted perception and later memory recollection stage. • Stimulating pairs of athlete star and sport brand triggered a more negative N2 and positive LPP compared to the other pairs. • The N2 mainly reflects the conflict process of celebrity-brand, and the LPP refers to the recollection process of the expertise association. Celebrity/brand endorsement is omnipresent and has great influence on consumers. In the current study, the event-related potentials (ERPs) were utilized to explore the neural process underlying how expertise congruency effect matters in ads. Twenty-five participants (two excluded) were recruited to accept or refuse the brands (stimulus 2) endorsed by celebrities (stimulus 1) during a S1–S2 paradigm. Behavioral results indicated significant differences in the acceptance rates and reaction time, while ERPs component provided further insight into the cognitive processing: early conflicted perception and later memory recollection process. The results of ERPs showed that, when the celebrity is an athlete star, presenting a sport brand (AS, expertise congruity) triggered a less negative N2 and a larger LPP component compared to a leisure brand (AL, expertise incongruity) but not different with singer star (SS and SL, expertise neutrality). We suggested the N2 may reflect the conflict process of celebrity-brand, while the LPP may demonstrate the recollection process of expertise association in memory. Such findings implied that a more fluent processing (smaller N2 and larger LPP) and prominent performances could be obtained in an expertise congruity scenario, which deepened our understanding of expertise congruency effect in advertising. Objectives: This in vitro study was formulated to clarify how mandibular partial edentulous distal extension involving three missing teeth affects the virtual occlusal record (VOR) accuracy, in terms of both trueness and precision, when using two different intraoral scanners (IOSs) - the Primescan (PS) and Trios 4 (TR) scanners., Methods: A typodont model missing the left mandibular second premolar, first molar, and second molar as well as the right mandibular first molar was mounted on a semi-adjustable articulator. Four implants were placed at the sites of the missing mandibular teeth. Six pairs of stainless steel markers (diameter: 0.5 mm) were affixed to the maxillary and mandibular casts in the buccal gingiva adjacent to the implants and on the facial surfaces of teeth as reference positions for measurements. The model was digitized with an inEox X5 laboratory scanner to create a reference dataset. Intraoral scans were performed with the PS and TR scanners, with each scan duplicated 10 times to generate 20 paired IOS files. Automatic VOR generation followed the bilateral buccal scan protocol, divided into PS and TR groups (n=10). Six subgroups of linear distances between interarch markers were assessed with Geomagic Control software, comparing deviations from the reference scan. Data normality was confirmed with the Shapiro-Wilk test. Trueness was evaluated with two-way ANOVAs and pairwise comparisons performed with Tukey's test, whereas precision was assessed with the Levene test (α=0.05)., Results: The mean linear deviation (Δd) and standard deviation (SD) of VOR were both significantly affected by marker position (P < 0.001), and a significant position × scanner interaction was detected (P < 0.001). Negative mean deviations were observed for the distally extended edentulous areas in both groups. PS scans exhibited trueness that was significantly better than that for TR scans in the D16-46, D13-43, D23-33, and D27-37 subgroups (P < 0.05), whereas there were no significant differences in the D25-35 or D26-36 subgroups. PS scanning was associated with significantly better precision than TR scanning (P<0.001), and worse precision was observed at D27-37 for both tested IOSs., Conclusions: Mandibular partial edentulous distal extension can significantly affect VOR accuracy. The type of IOS could also affect VOR accuracy depending on the area being scanned, with better overall performance observed for the Primescan device as compared to the Trios 4 scanner. Both of these IOSs tended to underestimate VOR occlusal dimensions in mandibular distally extended edentulous areas., Clinical Significance: Mandibular distal edentulous areas can contribute to occlusal dimensions that are underestimated in digital workflows, which may result in infraocclusal discrepancies that arise when performing restorations.
