Purifying air from dust is a very important, current topic. There are many methods to minimize the amount of dust, one of them being chamber filters. This paper presents the research results of a newly designed rectangular chamber filter. The efficiency of the dedusting process is influenced by contamination properties, but also by the construction of the apparatus, inlet, and outlet location, the ratio of certain dimensions, and the gas flow rate. The airflow containing solid particles is a multi-phase, difficult-to-describe issue, therefore an attempt to determine the trajectory of particle movement in the apparatus was carried out using the PIV method. A decrease in the dedusting efficiency was observed with the increase of the gas flow rate, as well as for smaller diameters of the solid particles. The obtained values of the efficiency of the apparatus are comparable with the values obtained for the constructions discussed in other papers.

The aim of the study was to relate the influence of the chemical composition, structure, and basic properties as hardness of the tested drill bits on resistance to their wear. The chemical composition of the drill bit was investigated using the electric excitation emission spectrometry method and EDS microanalysis. Metallographic specimens were prepared and observed to determine the structure of each tool. Hardness tests were carried out on the shank and the working part of the tools. Material wear tests were carried out on the basis of measuring the wear of the drill bit flank. It has been shown that the appropriate selection of the chemical composition and heat treatment has a significant impact on the wear resistance of cutting tools, which directly translates into their quality.

This paper summarises a series of large-scale fire suppression tests conducted to simulate a fire in the big surface and/or surface sprinkling. The subject of this paper is the research on water spraying with the use of the Turbo Jet 2011 water-foam nozzle manufactured by Supon Białystok. The results discuss the pressure losses caused by the flow through the discharge hose, spray angle, and the intensity of surface sprinkling. The greatest stream ranges and the highest maximum values of the sprinkling intensity were obtained at the capacity of 400 l/min, and a solid spray angle. The smallest values were obtained at 200 l/min, a pressure of 5 bar, and a solid spray angle. The actual pressures taking into account the losses in the hose section were calculated. As for the highest firefighting effectiveness of the stream, the authors recommended the following parameters: semi spray angle, 200 l/min, and 2.5 bar.

Summary: Previous studies suggest that postautologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) recovery of polyclonal immunoglobulin from immunoparesis in patients with multiple myeloma is a positive prognostic marker. We performed a longitudinal analysis of polyclonal immunoglobulin concentrations and unique B‐cell sequences in patients enrolled in the phase 3 ATLAS trial that randomized 180 subjects to either carfilzomib, lenalidomide, dexamethasone (KRd) or lenalidomide (R) maintenance. In the KRd arm, standard‐risk patients with minimal residual disease negativity after six cycles de‐escalated to R alone after cycle 8. One year from the initiation of maintenance at least partial recovery of polyclonal immunoglobulin was observed in more patients on the R arm (58/66, p < 0.001) and in those who de‐escalated from KRd to R (27/38, p < 0.001) compared to the KRd arm (9/36). In patients who switched from KRd to R, the concentrations of uninvolved immunoglobulin and the number of B‐cell unique sequences increased over time, approaching values observed in the R arm. There were no differences in progression‐free survival between the patients with at least partial immunoglobulin recovery and the remaining population. Our analysis indicates that patients receiving continuous therapy after ASCT experience prolonged immunoparesis, limiting prognostic significance of polyclonal immunoglobulin recovery in this setting. Despite its high effectiveness, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) can sometimes be associated with multiple peri-transplant complications requiring urgent intervention. Life-threatening complications in the transplantation unit affect non-relapse mortality. This article sets out a practical approach to the essential peri-transplant clinical conditions, divided into infectious complications and complications related to immune response and endothelial damage. An early diagnosis of life-threatening conditions, and prompt implementation of the best therapy, can save patients' lives. This is especially the case regarding infectious complications in neutropenic patients and in the advanced stages of immunological complications such as graft-versus-host disease, veno-occlusive disease, graft failure, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, and thrombotic microangiopathy associated with HSCT. The rational choice of pumping units and the effective usage of the corresponding pumping equipment are urgent problems in terms of ensuring the energy efficiency of up-to-date enterprises. The research aims to develop an energy efficiency indicator for torque flow pump usage to improve the decision-making procedure for choosing the corresponding pumping equipment for specific production conditions. Based on a study of the requirements of international standards for energy efficiency, a methodology for evaluating torque flow pumps according to the energy efficiency indicators is proposed, as the ratio between the values of the average compensated network power and the reference pump inlet power can determine the degree of reduced energy equipment operation efficiency in terms of the energy efficiency of pumping liquids. It was proposed to apply the base point method to determine the so-called compromise point of energy consumption for liquid pumping. This is a point for which another point, by the Pareto compromise, is likely to have a more significant (worse) value for energy consumption than the rest of the set of possible values. Nowadays, due to a higher resistance to drugs, antibiotics, and antiviral medicaments, new ways of fighting pathogens are intensively studied. The alternatives for synthesized compositions are natural products, most of which have been known in natural medicine for a long time. One of the best-known and intensively investigated groups are essential oils (EOs) and their compositions. However, it is worth noting that the method of application can play a second crucial part in the effectiveness of the antimicrobial activity. EOs possess various natural compounds which exhibit antimicrobial activity. One of the compositions which is based on the five main ingredients of eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove, rosemary, and lemon is named "five thieves' oil" (Polish name: olejek pięciu złodziei) (5TO) and is used in natural medicine. In this study, we focused on the droplet size distribution of 5TO during the nebulization process, evaluated by the microscopic droplet size analysis (MDSA) method. Furthermore, viscosity studies, as well as UV-Vis of the 5TO suspensions in medical solvents such as physiological salt and hyaluronic acid, were presented, along with measurements of refractive index, turbidity, pH, contact angle, and surface tension. Additional studies on the biological activity of 5TO solutions were made on the P. aeruginosa strain NFT3. The results of research on the process of applying lubricating coatings are presented in this work. For this purpose, plastic greases were used, in which the base oil is perfluoropolyether (PFPE) and the thickener is poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE). Due to their consistency, these materials are classified into different classes according to the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI). The research was carried out using a time-pressure valve at varying atomization pressure values. Based on the obtained results, the width of the obtained material path and the angle of spray atomization were determined. Chromate and dichromate solutions used for the activation and passivation of cadmium and zinc galvanic coatings of metal products are widely used due to their ability to form corrosion-protective films. Therefore, in this article, we examined the kinetic features of the cathodic deposition of Cd and Zn during membrane electrolysis. As a result of comprehensive experimental and theoretical studies, the features of Cd and Zn cathodic depositions were analyzed under different hydrodynamic conditions in a submembrane zone of an anolyte. Experimental physicochemical methods such as the experimental analysis of solutions, analytical modeling, and a statistical analysis were used during the research. A regression dependence for evaluating a reaction rate constant was assessed based on the least-square approximation of the proposed model. As a result, the peculiarities of the cathodic formations for Cd and Zn during the membrane electrolysis process were analyzed. The effect of mechanical mixing with different values of the Reynolds number on the deposition of Cd and Zn on a cathode was evaluated. A change in Cd2+ and Zn2+ ion concentrations was also considered during the research. Overall, the obtained results increased the Cd deposition rate by 2.2 times using an active hydrodynamic environment with the anolyte. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ensuring the vibration reliability of power equipment is one of the fundamental problems in modern power machinery. This problem has become more critical due to a permanent increase in the machining performance of high-speed milling of axial turbine blades. This article aims to identify reliable vibration parameters for high-speed milling of turbine blades to increase the energy efficiency of gas and steam turbines. For this purpose, mathematical models of free and forced oscillations of turbine blades during machining were developed. As a result of considering experimental and finite element analysis data, critical frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of free oscillations were identified using regression procedures by the best fit of analytical and empirical approaches. Additionally, after considering the forced oscillations of blades during high-speed machining, the magnitude of the specific cutting force and external damping ratio in the system 'axial turbine blade and milling head' were evaluated. The resulting magnitude of forced oscillations during machining was calculated. Finally, the amplitude–frequency response was also assessed, considering the machining parameters. Overall, the proposed methodology increases energy efficiency due to a decrease in the obtained machining quality of turbine blades. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A promising direction in developing up-to-date transport vehicles is the use of transmissions, an essential element of which is a dual-clutch. Improving functional performance, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness are relevant and require appropriate research. The object of study is a dry dual-clutch working with a manual transmission with high energy efficiency. In the proposed design scheme, a rotary lever and a movable carriage can change the structural diagram of the force interaction between the pressure spring and the clutch discs. The developed mathematical model of the clutches control mechanism allowed for analyzing the process of controlling the dual-clutch transmissions (DCT) and obtaining functional dependencies between pushing forces in friction pairs and the carriage position. As a result, a method for synthesizing DCT was proposed to ensure the transmission of a given torque. Furthermore, it was determined and numerically proven that the same radial movement of the carriage when switching-on the clutches does not guarantee equal loading for the frictional discs of each clutch. This fact increases the uneven dynamics of torque and disc wear. Overall, the synthesis of the energy-saving dry dual-clutch control mechanism providing the same clutch margin for each clutch was developed. The aim of the article is the development of methods for optimal overhaul planning of compressor station equipment. Nowadays, due to uncertainties in the forecast of gas supply flow rates, increasing the reliability and energy efficiency of main gas pipelines is an urgent problem. The dependence of operating costs for major repairs on the maintenance periodicity is extreme. Reducing equipment's maintenance period leads to an increase in repair costs. It also increases the reliability of equipment operation. Overall, all these facts reduce the probability of emergency failures and related expenses for emergency recovery, gas losses, and undersupply to consumers. Therefore, an optimal maintenance frequency exists, at which the total operating costs will be minimal. A procedure for optimizing the periodicity of repairs and equipment replacement is proposed. It was realized by constructing an objective function as a dependence of exploitation costs on the inter-repair period of major repairs. A probabilistic approach was applied to assess the aging process. The characteristics of the equipment's state are described by distribution densities (i.e., pre-repair, inter-repair, and full-service life), which vary depending on product initialization time. The main characteristics of major repairs are their duration and intensity, which are evaluated by the quality factor related to repair costs. The extremum of the objective function is sought by the method of competing options. It was determined that the optimal management of the frequency of equipment replacement can be realized by choosing the optimal values of the average service life, average operation time of units until the first planned and preventive repair, and quality factor. As a result, the required technical condition for the technological equipment is ensured under minimum operating costs without reducing the system's reliability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper provides an outlook on future directions of research and the possible applications for pulverized coal-fired boilers. One potential direction for future research is to focus on the ways to improve the efficiency of pulverized coal-fired boilers. This could involve developing new combustion technologies that are able to more thoroughly burn the coal and produce less waste or finding ways to capture and use the excess heat that is generated during the combustion process. The pulverized coal combustion process in power boilers is still being improved by the preliminary cleaning of coal and the use of various catalytic additives. Another area of research that could be valuable is the development of advanced control systems and monitoring technologies for pulverized coal-fired boilers. These systems could be used to optimize the performance of the boiler and ensure that it is operating at maximum efficiency while also providing real-time data on the condition of the boiler and any potential problems that may arise. The analysis of literature shows that several future paths of development and scientific research related to the technology of pulverized coal combustion in boilers can be distinguished. Dry fog is a specific form of aerosol that is used in many branches of industry and many aspects of everyday life. It can be used, inter alia, to disinfect rooms or to control the level of humidity. One of its greatest advantages is undoubtedly its ability to work in the vicinity of electrical devices. Although the process of its formation and the very phenomenon of its occurrence are extremely simple things to describe, there are still many aspects that can be discovered, which are the focus of research by scientists around the world. One of the main parameters that influence the production process of dry fog is the pressure of the supplied gas, as well as the environmental conditions in which the aerosol is formed. This work focuses on the production of dry fog with the use of the designed and constructed apparatus, the structure of which is based on a jet nebulizer. The test and measurement stand is equipped with a compressor with a built-in pressure gauge for reading air pressure, a valve that allows the flow to be regulated, and an air supply and heating device that operates at various power values. The aim of this research was to check the impact of the power that is supplied to the system, as well as the impact of changing selected parameters such as gas pressure (which is one of the required media), on the liquid spraying process. The analysis of the results obtained during the experimental tests was based on the photographic method and allowed the mean Sauter volume–surface diameters of the obtained droplets to be compared. The analysis also showed that an increase in the power of the air supply and heating device translates directly into an increase in the ambient temperature in which the dry fog is formed, and contributes to the reduction of the diameter of the generated droplets. Changing the pressure of the atomized gas has a direct impact on the size of droplets in the generated aerosol—the higher the pressure, the smaller the droplets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An appropriate control and measurement system is one of the elements that allows for the safe and effective operation of a technological installation. Such a system may have a diverse structure that corresponds to the expectations and needs of its user. The devices of various manufacturers, including PLC (programmable logic controllers), can be used as a source of measurement data. This enables flexible measurement–control installations, which are adapted to the technological installations, to be built. This paper presents a system, which was created by the authors, for monitoring the temperature, pressure and flow rate of fluids. It uses the operational and IT properties of the PLC and is adapted to an existing installation on the test stand for multiphase spraying processes. The review presents the D2-law of droplet evaporation, which is used to describe the spraying process involving the evaporation of droplets. This law, the subject of numerous publications, can be successfully applied to describe the droplet evaporation process under various conditions, including the calculations of the process of feeding the boiler with a liquid that contains catalyst particles. To date, not a lot of work has been devoted to this issue. The paper is a continuation of previous research concerning the spraying of liquids with a catalyst, which improves the efficiency of the process. The conducted analysis showed that the experimental data from previously published work are very compatible with the data obtained from the D2-law of droplet evaporation. At the standard speed of about 20 m/s of an aerosol flowing through a dust duct, droplets in the stream should be observed up to a distance of 1 m from the outlet of the apparatus supplying the system. Under such flow conditions, a droplet's lifetime must be above 0.05 s. The dependence between a droplet's lifetime and its diameter and temperature was determined. The obtained results confirmed that the effective droplet diameter is above 30 µm. Such droplets must be generated and then fed to the boiler for the catalyst to work properly. This law is an engineering approach to the problem, which uses relatively simple model equations in order to determine the evaporation time of a droplet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The surge in plastic waste production has forced researchers to work on practically feasible recovery processes. Pyrolysis is a promising and intriguing option for the recycling of plastic waste. Developing a model that simulates the pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the most common polymer is important in determining the impact of operational parameters on system behavior. The type and amount of primary products of pyrolysis, such as oil, gas, and waxes, can be predicted statistically using a multiple linear regression model (MLRM) in R software. To the best of our knowledge, the statistical estimation of kinetic rate constants for pyrolysis of high-density plastic through MLRM analysis using R software has never been reported in the literature. In this study, the temperature-dependent rate constants were fixed experimentally at 420 °C. The rate constants with differences of 0.02, 0.03, and 0.04 from empirically set values were analyzed for pyrolysis of HDPE using MLRM in R software. The added variable plots, scatter plots, and 3D plots demonstrated a good correlation between the dependent and predictor variables. The possible changes in the final products were also analyzed by applying a second-order differential equation solver (SODES) in MATLAB version R2020a. The outcomes of experimentally fixed-rate constants revealed an oil yield of 73% to 74%. The oil yield increased to 78% with a difference of 0.03 from the experimentally fixed rate constants, but light wax, heavy wax, and carbon black decreased. The increased oil and gas yield with reduced byproducts verifies the high significance of the conducted statistical analysis. Introduction: There is little iterature data regarding neutropenic enterocolitis (NE) development after autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (auto-HCT) in non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) patients. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcome of NE after auto-HCT in NHL patients with respect to the impact of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDRG) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci colonization on the early outcome after auto-HCT. Material and methods: This retrospective single-center analysis included a total of 65 NHL patients who underwent auto-HCT after BEAM (BCNU, etoposide, cytosine arabinoside, melphalan) conditioning (BEAM-auto-HCT). Results: NE was diagnosed in nine (13.8%) patients, a median four days after auto-HCT. In 6/9 (66%) patients, septic shock following NE was diagnosed. In univariate analysis, MDRG colonization before BEAM-auto-HCT was the only factor significant for NE development [odds ratio (OR) 2.4 (1.14-5.0), p = 0.027], although this was not confirmed in multivariate analysis. Additionally, NE [OR 5.2 (1.9-13.9), p = 0.001] and MDRG colonization prior to transplant [OR 2.7 (1.0-7.0), p = 0.041] were independent factors for septic shock development. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that NHL patients presenting with MDRG colonization before transplant should be kept under careful surveillance because of the high risk of the development of early severe infectious complications, including abdominal ones. The article presents a method of controlling the size of droplets generated by a system that sprays a high-viscosity liquid containing particles of a solid body, i.e., a catalyst. The work is a continuation of previous research concerning the spraying of liquids with a catalyst, which improves the efficiency of the process. As a result of the conducted CFD calculations, it was found that to bring the catalyst to the system, a droplet with a diameter of at least 30 µm should be generated. The tests were carried out on a laboratory scale on a model isopropanol-water system. A polymer containing Raney nickel particles was added to the suspension. The analysis of the obtained data confirmed the possibility of generating droplets with the desired diameters in order for the liquid carrying the catalyst to not evaporate before it is delivered to the combustion chamber. The designed and constructed test system allows the diameters of the generated droplets to be controlled by changing the settings of the spraying nozzle. Moreover, it enables the parameters of the process, and the spraying itself, to be controlled. In further work, tests on a real 0.5 MW facility are planned. Due to the use of a catalyst, a greater degree of fuel burnout can be obtained, and the dynamics of the combustion process can be improved. The paper presents the results of experimental studies on one- and two-phase flow in packed columns. In the study, natural materials (LECA, pumice stone, cones, coconut fiber, wood chips, walnuts, shells), waste materials (plastic nuts, bricks, tiles), copper springs, and plastic acorns were used as packing. The relationship between the flow resistance coefficient and the Reynolds number is described. In the model, the relationship between the pressure drop on the sprayed packing and the pressure drop on the dry packing is presented. The characteristic values for the studied materials were obtained. The study constitutes the basis for further studies of packings of various origins in order to determine the influence of variable geometrical dimensions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This analysis attempts to determine the diagnostic and prognostic value of bone marrow (BM) evaluation by multiparameter flow cytometry in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Materials and methods: The study group consisted of patients who underwent diagnostic process in the years 2008‐2017 due to cytopenia and finally were diagnosed with MDS (n = 71). The comparative group included patients with cytopenia diagnosed in the same period, whose definitive diagnosis was other than MDS (n = 39). Flow cytometric evaluation of BM was performed following the recommendations of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) in all patients. Results: The median number of immunophenotypic abnormalities found on granulocytes in the MDS group was significantly higher compared to the comparative group [2 (range 0‐5) vs 0 (range 0‐2); P <.0001]. Similarly, the median Ogata score was significantly higher in the MDS group [2 (range 0‐4) vs 1 (range 0‐3); P <.0001]. Since the disturbances of the CD11b/HLA‐DR and CD11b/CD13 on granulocytes were significantly more common in MDS patients, the Ogata score was extended by these abnormalities, what resulted in its higher diagnostic sensitivity (82%) while preserving high specificity (87%). The positive correlation was found between risk score determined by the Revised International Prognostic Scoring System and the number of the BM immunophenotypic abnormalities (P =.017). Conclusions: Our results indicate that the diagnostic usefulness of the Ogata score may be increased by including the abnormal expression of CD11b/HLA‐DR and CD11b/CD13 on granulocytes. Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is the leading indication for autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT), with over 12,000 transplants per year in Europe. Due to low toxicity, an entirely outpatient procedure or an early discharge after ASCT can be considered as alternatives to inpatient transplantation. Thus, we launched an Early Discharge Program (EDP) for patients qualified for ASCT due to MM who were under 60 years of age, without significant comorbidities, who had a caregiver available 24/7, and who lived within a 60-minute drive of our hospital. Material and methods: Patients spent 72 hours in the hospital being administered melphalan 200 mg/m2 intravenous followed by an infusion of hematopoietic stem cells. They were eventually discharged and remained under outpatient care. The program was launched in September 2019 and was temporarily halted due to the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic in early 2020. Five patients were enrolled to the EDP. Results: Non-hematological toxicity was mild and manageable in an outpatient setting. Only one patient was readmitted due to exacerbation of ulcerative colitis that was probably not related to ASCT. We observed neither infections nor bleeding. Due to hematological toxicity, three of the five patients received platelet transfusion on the 6th day after ASCT as outpatients. No packed erythrocytes were transfused. The EDP demonstrated lower costs compared to an inpatient approach. Conclusions: We believe that early discharge, which is an intermediate step to full at-home transplantation due to patients' wellbeing, reduction of infections caused by resistant microorganisms, and costs, will eventually replace a full inpatient procedure for a significant population of patients suffering from multiple myeloma and indeed other diseases. This paper discusses design, evaluation, and application for the use of swirl/vortex technologies as liquid purification system. A study was performed using modified swirl sedimentation tanks. The vortex separators containing baffle have been studied under laboratory conditions at hydraulic load from 21 to 64 [m3/(m2·h)]. Analyzed disperser phases were municipal water and glycerol solutions of varying concentration. The pressure drop and the efficiency of purification of liquid stream were analyzed. The suspended particles of different diameters were successfully removed from liquid with the application of swirl chambers of proposed constructions. It was found that damming of liquid in the tank increases alongside liquid stream at the inlet and depends on the tank construction. The efficiency of the sedimentation tanks increases alongside the diameters of solid particles and decrease in the liquid flow rate. The best construction proved to be the one where baffle is located in the middle of in- and outlet due to the highest efficiency of the purification liquid stream for solid particles of the smallest diameter. Objective:The article contains results of the experimental studies on atomization process of inhaled drugs and aqueous solutions of glycerol with aqueous solutions of glycerol polyacrylamide (Rokrysol WF1) in pneumatic nebulizers. In experiments, the different concentration of aqueous solutions of glycerol polyacrylamide have been tested. In addition, the effect of nebulizer design on atomization process has been determined. The one of the main elements of medical pneumatic nebulizer is nebulizer cup. Significance:The experiment with this scope is new and is very important from the point of view of aerosol therapy. Methods:The results have been obtained by the use of the digital microphotography technique. In order to determine a physicochemical properties of tested liquids, a rheological measurements and measurements of the surface tension were carried out. Results:The differences between characteristics of aerosol for the liquids have been observed. The analysis of the droplets size distributions shows that the different diameters of droplets for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids have been formed during atomization in pneumatic nebulizers equipped with different nebulizer cups. The effect of the mouthpiece location on the droplets diameters has been shown. Conclusions:Precise design of nebulizer and nebulizer cups, and also physicochemical properties of atomized liquids are of high importance in order to the effectiveness of drug delivery to patient’s respiratory tracts. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused the need to change the global standards for allogeneic hematopoietic cell processing for transplantation by routinely cryopreserving the transplant material. We analyzed the results of hematopoiesis reconstitution in a group of 50 patients who underwent transplantation with cryopreserved cellular material (group A) and in a group of 50 patients who underwent transplantation with non-cryopreserved cellular material (group B). The analysis included patients treated due to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Poznań University of Medical Sciences. Statistical evaluation of neutrophil recovery indicates a required time of 19 for group A and 18 days in group B. The statistical analysis also show that tere were no statistically significant differences in the analyzed parameter (p = = 0.8563). The median white blond cell (WBC) reconstitution time in patients was 17 days in both groups. There were no statistical differences between groups (p = 0.8628). The time required to platelet engraftment (PLT >20 × × 109/L) was also evaluated. In both groups, the median number of days to restore platelet count was 14 days. Analysis showed that tere were no significant statistical differences between the groups (p = 0.8920). The time for patients to reach reference values of neutrophil and WBC was evaluated. The median time to reach the neutophil reference value was 22 and 21 days in group A and B, respectively. In contrast, the median time to reach the WBC reference value was 25 and 23 of in groups A and B, respectively. There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the parameters analyzed (p = 0.3895 for neutrophil; p = 0.3513 for WBC). In conclusion, transplantation of patients diagnosed with AML using cryopreserved cellular material does not affect the clinical parameters of hematopoietic recovery time of patients treated with transplantation. The Department of Hematology and Bone MarrowTransplantation of Poznan University of Medical Sciences is the first center in Poland to be accredited to conduct CAR-T therapy and the center that has precced the most number of the advanced therapies in Poland so far. The material was obtained by non-stimulated apheresis from 9 patients treated in the Department. The largest group of patients were diagnosed with primary mediastinal large B-celllymphoma (4 patients; 45%), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (3 patients; 33%) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (2 patients; 22%). 7 patients received anadvanced therapy product. This paper present the analysis results of quantitative and qualitative parameters of 10 donation of autologous lymphocytes. Our experience consisted of collection, product preparation ― including cell cryopreservation and cell release to Kite/Gilead (8 products; 80%) and Novartis (2 products; 20%) manufacturer. Median age of patients was 30 years (range: 20-48). Median body weight [kg] of patients was 71 (range: 55-81). Median white blond cells count (×103/μL) and lymphocyte count (×103/μL) in patients blood on a collection day before apheresis was 2.78 (range: 0.7-8.46) and 0.64 (range: 0.11-2.03), respectivelly. Detailed parameters of collections products were also evaluated. The median volume [mL] of the product was 190 (range: 104-305). The median number of nuclear cells (×108) in the donation was 71.2 (range: 28.08-101.4). The products were collected between 2019 and 2022 (year ― number of products: 2019 ― 2; 2020 ― 4, 2021 ― 2, 2022 ― 2). The median storage time (number of days) of CAR-T products in the Department was 8 (range: 6-19). The above characteristics of both patients and autologous lymphocyte products dedicated for CAR-T therapy may be usefull to other center aiming to implement advanced cellular therapies. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to determine the incidence of second malignancies among patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) treated with autologous ha ematopoietic stem cell trans plantation (ASCT) following a modi fied BEAM (BCNU, etoposide, cytarabine, melphalan, dexa methasone) regimen between 1992 and 2012 at our department. We also intended to define the risk factors for the occurrence of second neoplasm after ASCT. Material and methods: The long-term outcomes after transplant were evaluated in 170 patients, median age 31 years (range 17-61), who received amedian of two pre-transplant chemo therapy lines (range 1-5). Results: MOPP (me chlorethamine, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone) or MOPP-type regimens were given to 12% of patients prior to ASCT. The median follow- up of the survivors was 73 (12-242) months. The 7-year overall survival and progression-free survival were 75% and 64%, respectively. Second malignancies occurred in 7 of the 170 patients, including 5 haematological malignancies, and 2 solid tumors. They developed at amedian of 8 years (range 0.4-13.5) from ASCT. The 10-year and 15-year cumulative incidence of developing a second malignancy were 7% and 13%, respectively. In multivariate analysis, age ≥40 years at transplant (HR = 8.8; p = 0.008) and pre-transplant MOPP-type chemotherapy (HR = 5.6; p = 0.030) were the only factors significant for developing a second malignancy. Conclusions: Our results indicate that age of patient and the type of pre-transplant chemotherapy contribute to the risk of the development of a second neoplasm after ASCT in patients with HL. We believe that better characterization of second malignancies and associated risk factors may be useful for clinicians who care for these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents the concept of a method of improving the dynamics of combustion in boilers operating in power plants, cogeneration plants, and heating plants by introducing a catalyst that is fed with a carrier in the form of droplets. Thanks to the proposed method, a greater degree of fuel burnout can be obtained, which, in turn, results in lower energy consumption in the case of producing the same amount of power. The parameters of the emitted exhaust gases and ash are also improved. The method described in the article involves the adding of a catalyst to the dust pipe of the boiler, which improves the combustion parameters. The catalyst was implemented using a sprayer/nebulizer. In order to obtain the correct flow parameters, the sprayer was modeled using CFD calculations. The calculations include trajectories, velocities and concentrations with regards to various flow parameters. Particular attention should be paid to the model of the evaporation of moving droplets. The results of these calculations enable the parameters that guarantee that the catalyst reaches the dust channel outlet in the desired form to be assessed. The removal of solids is the most important step when treating rainwater. The article evaluates two designs of sedimentation tanks that can be used for the continuous separation of fine particles from water: OS—standard sedimentation tanks, and OW—swirl sedimentation tanks. The tanks were studied by conducting computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and particle image velocimetry (PIV) experiments. The settling process in sedimentation tank was carried out at varying operating flow rates. A tank with a modified structure was used for the tests, where water was supplied by a nozzle placed at an angle. This solution made it possible to obtain a rotational flow that transported the suspended particles towards its wall, where downward axial velocity resulted in the settling of particles. Based on the research, it was observed that the flow patterns showed inward flow at the bottom of the tank and an upward flow and the lifting of the settled particles near the hatch at the bottom. The presented experimental measurements provided detailed insight into flow patterns, and valuable calibration and verification data for further CFD modeling. Traditional PIV techniques are useful in the case of standard design, whereas CFD is invaluable for supporting this work and for investigating the design of novel sedimentation tanks. This paper presents a design of a flow meter based on a programmable logic controller (PLC). The new construction of a flow meter controlled by PLC increases the possibilities for the control and automation of fluid flow. Additionally, the didactic potential of the use of simple automation in the form of a programmable logic controller was considered. A device enabling the measurement of fluid flow rate based on a PLC controller was designed, constructed, and tested. The choice of device was the Gems Sensors FT-210 series turbine flow sensor, which is characterized by low purchase and maintenance costs. The properties and the chemical resistance of polyamide-12, the material the sensor is made of, make it possible to test the flow of various types of fluids. As part of the work, an algorithm and a program controlling the device was developed based on the APB Soft software, enabling the accurate reading of the number of impulses sent by the turbine flow sensor. The results of the designed flow meter were compared with the results obtained for the Krohne VA-40 high accuracy rotameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
