Abstract

Abstract The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K ± → π 0 π 0 μ ± ν decay based on a sample of 2437 candidates with 15% background contamination collected in 2003–2004. The decay branching ratio in the kinematic region of the squared dilepton mass above 0.03 GeV2/c 4 is measured to be (0.65 ± 0.03) × 10 −6. The extrapolation to the full kinematic space, using a specific model, is found to be (3.45 ± 0.16) × 10 −6, in agreement with chiral perturbation theory predictions.

Abstract

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K±→π±π0e+e− decay from an exposure of 1.7×1011 charged kaon decays recorded in 2003–2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K±→π±π0e+e−)=(4.24±0.14)×10−6. The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated.

Abstract

Abstract A measurement of the form factors of charged kaon semileptonic decays is presented, based on 4.4 × 106 K ± → π 0 e ± ν e (K e3 ± ) and 2.3 × 106 K ± → π 0 μ±ν μ (K μ3 ± ) decays collected in 2004 by the NA48/2 experiment. The results are obtained with improved precision as compared to earlier measurements. The combination of measurements in the K e3 ± and K μ3 ± modes is also presented.

Abstract

Resumo:O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer frações ótimas da dosagem total de fósforo, a serem aplicadas no pré-plantio e na fertirrigação do tomateiro de crescimento determinado, bem como determinar o efeito das diferentes formas de aplicação do nutriente sobre sua distribuição espacial no solo. Os tratamentos consistiram de cinco esquemas de aplicação do fertilizante: 100, 75, 50, 25 e 0% da dose total de P, dividida entre o pré-plantio (superfosfato triplo incorporado ao solo) e a fertirrigação (ácido fosfórico). O experimento foi realizado em Latossolo Vermelho argiloso com duas classes de disponibilidade de P - 7,5 e 32,9 mg dm-3 (Mehlich-1). Os tratamentos não apresentaram efeito sobre as variáveis de produção do tomateiro cultivado no solo com alta disponibilidade de P. Entretanto, no solo com menor disponibilidade do nutriente, a fertirrigação com P apresentou efeito quadrático sobre a produtividade de frutos, a receita líquida e a taxa líquida de retorno. Os melhores resultados foram obtidos com a aplicação de metade da dose total de P pela fertirrigação. A fertirrigação possibilitou movimento vertical do nutriente no solo para até 30 cm de profundidade, e movimento horizontal de até 15 cm.

Abstract

A sample of 1.69×107 fully reconstructed π0→γe+e− decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN in 2003–2004 is analyzed to search for the dark photon (A′) production in the π0→γA′ decay followed by the prompt A′→e+e− decay. No signal is observed, and an exclusion region in the plane of the dark photon mass mA′ and mixing parameter ε2 is established. The obtained upper limits on ε2 are more stringent than the previous limits in the mass range 9 MeV/c2

9. Estratégias ótimas de irrigação do feijão‑caupi para produção de grãos verdes

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar estratégias ótimas de irrigação do feijão‑caupi (Vigna unguiculata) para a produção de grãos verdes, com a água como fator limitante da produção e diferentes valores de preço do produto. O experimento foi conduzido na Embrapa Meio‑Norte, em Teresina, PI, entre setembro e novembro de 2009. Foram avaliadas cinco lâminas de irrigação, estabelecidas com base em frações da evapotranspiração de referência (25, 50, 75, 100 e 125% da ETo), e as cultivares BRS Guariba e BRS Paraguaçu de feijão‑caupi. Aplicou-se a irrigação por sistema de aspersão convencional fixo. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e parcelas subdivididas (cultivares). As lâminas de irrigação entre 290 e 325 mm (108 e 130% da ETo) (BRS Paraguaçu) e entre 325 e 363 mm (130 e 153% da ETo) (BRS Guariba) maximizam a receita líquida na faixa de variação de preço do produto entre US$ 0,75 e 2,00 kg‑1, para a cultivar BRS Paraguaçu, e entre US$ 0,50 e 2,00 kg‑1, para a BRS Guariba. A cultivar BRS Guariba apresenta melhor desempenho econômico que a BRS Paraguaçu.

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da transpiração do tomateiro na fração lixiviada e na condutividade elétrica (CE) da solução nutritiva percolada no substrato de areia, em cultivo realizado sob condições de casa-de-vegetação. Foram utilizadas duas técnicas de fertirrigação, sendo uma denominada de sistema de controleconvencional e outra, de sistema de controle computadorizado. No sistema de controle convencional, a solução nutritiva foi aplicada em intervalos de tempo fixos entre eventos de fertirrigação. No outro sistema, a aplicação ocorreu de acordo com estimativas de transpiração que foram realizadas pelo algoritmo de controle do sistema computadorizado. Em dias nublados, a CE da solução nutritiva drenada diminuiu em ambos os sistemas, em decorrência da baixa transpiração e da alta fração lixiviada, o que amenizou a salinização do substrato. Entretanto, em altos valores de radiação solar, a CEaumentou devido à baixa lixiviação. Os resultados demonstraram que, em condições de nebulosidade, o sistema de controle computadorizado reduziu o volume de efluentes em 54% em relação ao sistema de controle convencional e, simultaneamente, impediu a salinização do substrato por meio da manutenção da CE média diária da solução drenadaentre 2,9 e 3,5 dS m-1.The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of tomatotranspiration on the leaching fraction and electrical conductivity (EC) of the nutrient solution drained in the sand substrate under greenhouse growing conditions. Two fertigation techniques were used, one denoted by conventional control system and the other by computerized control system. In the conventional control system, the nutrient solution was applied by using fixed time intervals between fertigation events. In the other system, the application occurred according to transpiration estimates, which were performed by the control algorithm of the computerized system. Under cloudy conditions, the EC of the drained nutrient solution decreased in both systems as a result of low transpiration and high leaching fractions, which mitigated substrate salinization. However, under high values of solar radiation, EC increased due to low leaching fractions. The results demonstrated that, under cloudy conditions, the computerizedcontrol system reduced effluent volumes by 54% as compared to the conventional control system and, simultaneously, prevented substrate salinization by maintaining mean EC values of the drained solution in the range from 2.9 to 3.5 dS m-1.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do sistema de plantio direto (PD) sobre diferentes quantidades de palhada, na eficiência de uso da água e na produção de repolho. Foram utilizadas quatro quantidades de palhada de milho sobre um Latossolo Vermelho de textura argilosa (0,0, 4,5, 9,0, 13,5 Mg ha-1 de matéria seca), com o sistema de plantio convencional (PC) como controle. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso com três repetições. O estande de plantas, a produtividade, a massa de matéria fresca, o diâmetro, a altura e a compacidade de cabeças de repolho não foram afetados significativamente pelos tratamentos. Houve uma redução de até 13% na lâmina líquida de água aplicada durante o ciclo do repolho cultivado em sistema de PD com palhada, quando comparada à utilizada em tratamentos sem palhada. Durante os primeiros 30 dias após o transplante de mudas, a economia de água chegou a 28%. O índice de produtividade da água em sistema de PD apresentou incremento linear com o aumento da quantidade de palhada utilizada, e foi até 21% maior que no sistema de PC.The objective of this work was to assess the effect of no-tillage production system (PD) using different rates of crop residues on cabbage water use efficiency and yield. Four rates of corn crop residues (0.0, 4.5, 9.0, 13.5 Mg ha-1 of dry matter) were tested in a clayed Latossolo Vermelho (Rhodic Haplustox), using the conventional tillage system (PC) as control. A completely randomized block design, with three replications was used. Cabbage stand, yield, fresh matter mass, diameter, height, and head compactness were not significantly affected by treatments. The total water depth applied along the entire crop cycle in PD treatments was up to 13% smaller than the treatments without residues. Water savings during the 30 days following transplanting reached 28%. The water productivity index increased linearly with crop residue rates under PD conditions, and was up to 21% higher than in the PC treatment.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o desempenho de um sistema de controle automático de fertirrigação para a produção do tomateiro em substrato de areia, comparativamente ao sistema de controle convencional quanto à redução de solução nutritiva. No método de controle automático, os eventos de fertirrigação foram estabelecidos em função das condições meteorológicas do ambiente de cultivo e do estádio de desenvolvimento da cultura. Para isso, o modelo de Penman-Monteith foi utilizado como suporte para a tomada de decisão sobre a frequência adequada para aplicação da solução nutritiva. No sistema de controle convencional, os intervalos entre as fertirrigações permaneceram fixos durante todo o ciclo do tomateiro. Os resultados demonstraram que o sistema de controle automático atendeu plenamente às necessidades hídricas da cultura, sem comprometer a produção do tomateiro, proporcionando reduções expressivas no consumo de solução nutritiva. Por outro lado, o sistema de controle convencional realizou número excessivo de fertirrigações, principalmente durante o estádio inicial de desenvolvimento do tomateiro e nos dias caracterizados por elevada nebulosidade. No estádio inicial de crescimento, verificou-se que os volumes totais de solução nutritiva, aplicados ao tomateiro pelo sistema convencional, excederam as necessidades hídricas da cultura em 1,31 e 1,39 L planta-1 em dias típicos com céu claro e nublado, respectivamente.The objective of this work was to compare the performance of an automatic fertigation control system, for soilless tomato production in sand substrate, as compared to a conventional control system. In the automatic control, fertigation events were established by meteorological conditions in the cultivation environment and crop development stage. In this way, the Penman-Monteith model was utilized as a decision support tool regarding the appropriate frequency for delivering the nutrient solution. In the conventional control system, fertigation intervals remained fixed during the tomato crop cycle. The results demonstrated that the automatic control system attended to the irrigation requirements without affecting crop production, providing important reduction in nutrient solution usage. On the other hand, the conventional control system applied excess irrigation, mainly during the initial crop development period and during cloudy conditions throughout the crop cycle. In the initial growth stage, it was verified that the total volumes of the nutrient solution, applied to tomato plants by the conventional system, exceeded crop water requirements in 1.31 and 1.39 L plant-1 under clear sky and cloudy days, respectively.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da quantidade de palhada sobre o solo (3, 6 e 9 t ha-1 de matéria seca de sorgo forrageiro), em sistema de plantio direto (SPD), sobre o uso de água e variáveis relativas à produção de cultivares de tomate para processamento, tendo como controle o sistema de plantio convencional (SPC). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com parcelas subdivididas e quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas as cultivares H9553 e H9992, em 2003, e H7155 e U2006, em 2004. A economia de água nos tratamentos de SPD, até 50 dias após o transplante das mudas, foi de 25%, comparado ao SPC, e de 11% durante todo o ciclo. A resposta relativa das cultivares foi similar para as variáveis avaliadas. A produtividade de frutos foi maximizada na quantidade de palhada de 6 t ha-1, e a taxa de frutos podres minimizada para 5,2 t ha-1. A produtividade no SPC foi de 10 a 17% menor do que nos tratamentos de SPD. A eficiência do uso de água pelas plantas não foi afetada pela quantidade de palhada, porém, o SPD foi 23% mais eficiente que o SPC.The work aimed to evaluate the effect of straw rates (3, 6, and 9 t ha-1 dry matter of sorghum forage), under no-tillage system, on crop water use and production of four processing tomatoes cultivars, as compared to conventional tillage system. The experimental design was the randomized blocks design with split plots and four replicates. Cultivars H9553 and H9992, in 2003, and H7155 and U2006, in 2004, were evaluated. The water use under no-tillage treatments during the first 50 days, since seedlings were transplanted, was 25% lower as compared to conventional tillage, and 11% lower during the entire crop season. Cultivars relative performance was equivalent for all evaluated variables. Marketable fruit yield was maximized at 6 t ha-1 straw, while rotten rate fruit was minimized at 5.2 t ha-1. Under conventional tillage system, fruit yield was 10 to 17% lower than under no-tillage treatments. Crop water use efficiency was not affected by cover crop rates, but no-tillage treatments yielded an average water use efficiency 23% higher than conventional tillage system.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de seis lâminas de água no fator de reprodução (FR) e no índice de galhas (IG) de Meloidogyne incognita raça 1 e na produtividade de oito cultivares de ervilha em condições de Cerrado, no Distrito Federal. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso com parcelas subdivididas e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos constaram da combinação de oito cultivares (Triofin, Mikado, Marina, Viçosa, Maria, Luiza, Amélia e Kodama) e seis lâminas de água (156, 177, 239, 311, 395 e 479 mm). Não houve interação entre cultivares e lâminas de água para fator de repodução e índice de galhas do nematóide, mas houve para produtividade de grãos. As médias de FR e IG por cultivar nas seis lâminas não diferiram entre si, mostrando que as cultivares apresentaram o mesmo grau de suscetibilidade ao nematóide. As médias das oito cultivares por lâmina de água mostraram redução do fator de reprodução em 60% sob lâminas de 156 e 177 mm, indicando que o nematóide não tolerou a condição de déficit hídrico do solo. As produtividades não diferiram nas lâminas de 239 a 395 mm, mas foram reduzidas em 12, 30 e 40%, respectivamente, sob lâminas de 479, 177 e 156 mm. As cultivares de ervilha alcançaram melhores produtividades sob lâminas de água entre 239 e 395 mm.The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of six water depths on the reproduction factor and gall index of Meloidogyne incognita race 1 as well as yield of eight pea cultivars in Cerrado conditions of the Federal District, Brazil. Treatments were replicated four times in a completely randomized block design and combined eight pea cultivars (Triofin, Mikado, Marina, Viçosa, Maria, Luiza, Amélia and Kodama) besides six water depths, 479, 395, 311, 239, 177 and 156 mm. There was no interaction between cultivars and water depths for the nematode reproduction factor and gall index, but there was for yield. The means for reproductive factor and gall index per cultivar in the six water depths did not differ, showing that the cultivars presented the same degree of susceptibility. However, the general means of the eight cultivars for each water depth showed that the reproductive factor reduced by 60% in water depths of 156 and 177 mm, indicating that the nematode did not tolerate water deficit. Cultivar yield did not differ, considering water depths of 239 to 395 mm, but it reduced to 12, 30 and 40%, respectively, considering water depths of 479, 177 and 156 mm. Pea cultivars reached the best yield under water depths of 239 to 395 mm.

Abstract

Nos sistemas de cultivo hidropônicos ou que utilizam a fertirrigação, a quantidade total de sais dissolvidos na solução nutritiva tem grande impacto na produtividade da cultura. A concentração adequada ao crescimento e desenvolvimento da cultura sofre variações marcantes ao longo do seu ciclo, podendo ser avaliada indiretamente por meio do monitoramento da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar um circuito eletrônico de baixo custo para a medição da condutividade elétrica, cujo princípio se baseia na medida de freqüência. O circuito eletrônico foi conectado a um computador via porta paralela, sendo calibrado utilizando-se de 16 soluções de KCl. A temperatura das soluções foi mantida nos níveis desejados por meio de um equipamento de controle da temperatura. Análises de regressão foram utilizadas para obter relações entre freqüência e resistência, visando a medir a condutividade elétrica e a temperatura da solução com base na freqüência. Os coeficientes de determinação obtidos demonstraram excelentes correlações (R² > 0,997). Com base nos resultados, pôde-se concluir que o circuito proposto é capaz de medir a condutividade elétrica de soluções na faixa de 0,10 a 10,15 dS m-1 com grande exatidão, compensando automaticamente as variações instantâneas de temperatura.In hydroponic systems or those that use the fertigation, the total amount of soluble salts in the nutrient solution has a significant impact on crop productivity. An adequate fertilizer concentration can be modified in response to stages of plant development through indirect monitoring of electrical conductivity of nutrient solution. The objective of this work was to evaluate a low cost electronic circuit to measure the electrical conductivity based on frequency measurements. The electronic circuit was connected to a computer using the parallel interface and calibrated with 16 KCl solutions. The solutions temperature was maintained at desired levels with a controlled temperature equipment. Regression analysis was used to obtain relationships between frequency and resistance in order to measure the electrical conductivity and the solution temperature based on measured data of frequency. The coefficients of determination obtained from this study showed excellent correlations (R² > 0.997). The results demonstrated that the proposed circuit is capable of measuring the electrical conductivity of the solution from 0.10 to 10.15 dS m-1 with considerable accuracy, compensating automatically instantaneous temperature variations.

Objetivo deste trabalho foi o de estabelecer critério para o manejo de água, durante o estádio vegetativo do tomateiro para processamento industrial, nas condições de cerrado do Brasil Central. Foram avaliados seis turnos de rega entre 0,5 e 16 dias. O estande final e a produtividade de frutos, maximizados em regas a cada 2 dias, apresentaram resposta quadrática com a freqüência de irrigação, enquanto a produção de biomassa foi maximizada em regas diárias. A massa média de fruto e o número de frutos por planta não foram influenciados pelos tratamentos; isto indica que as diferenças de produção foram causadas, principalmente, pela variação do estande final. A profundidade efetiva de raízes apresentou resposta linear positiva com o turno de rega. As plantas irrigadas a cada 8 e 16 dias apresentaram um sistema radicular cerca de 10 cm mais profundo do que aquelas irrigadas duas vezes por dia. O teor de sólidos solúveis totais, a acidez titulável e a taxa de fruto podre não foram influenciados pelos turnos de rega. Observou-se que para melhor desempenho do tomateiro, durante o estádio vegetativo as irrigações devem ser realizadas a cada 2 dias, ou seja, quando a tensão de água no solo atingir cerca de 17 kPa.The objective of this study was to establish a water management strategy for processing tomato vegetative growth stage, under "cerrado" conditions in the Central region of Brazil. Six irrigation interval treatments ranging from 0.5 to 16 days were evaluated. Plant final stand, biomass production, and fruit yield showed a quadratic response to irrigation interval, reaching a maximum for irrigation frequency of 2, 1, and 2 days, respectively. Average fruit mass and number of fruit per plant were not influenced by the irrigation intervals, suggesting that observed yield differences resulted from treatments effect on plant stand. Effective rooting depth increased linearly with irrigation frequency. Plants irrigated at 8 and 16 days intervals showed a rooting system about 10 cm deeper than those irrigated twice a day. Titratable acidity, total soluble solids content, and rotten fruit rate were not affected by irrigation frequency. For best tomato crop performance, irrigations during vegetative stage should be given at a 2-day frequency, which corresponds to a soil water tension of 17 kPa.

Abstract

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-) decay from an exposure of 1.7 x 10(11) charged kaon decays recorded in 2003-2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-)) = (4.24 +/- 0.14) x 10(-6). The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated., We gratefully acknowledge the CERN SPS accelerator and beam line staff for the excellent performance of the beam and the technical staff of the participating institutes for their efforts in the maintenance and operation of the detector, and data processing. Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da transpiração do tomateiro na fração lixiviada e na condutividade elétrica (CE) da solução nutritiva percolada no substrato de areia, em cultivo realizado sob condições de casa-de-vegetação. Foram utilizadas duas técnicas de fertirrigação, sendo uma denominada de sistema de controle convencional e outra, de sistema de controle computadorizado. No sistema de controle convencional, a solução nutritiva foi aplicada em intervalos de tempo fixos entre eventos de fertirrigação. No outro sistema, a aplicação ocorreu de acordo com estimativas de transpiração que foram realizadas pelo algoritmo de controle do sistema computadorizado. Em dias nublados, a CE da solução nutritiva drenada diminuiu em ambos os sistemas, em decorrência da baixa transpiração e da alta fração lixiviada, o que amenizou a salinização do substrato. Entretanto, em altos valores de radiação solar, a CE aumentou devido à baixa lixiviação. Os resultados demonstraram que, em condições de nebulosidade, o sistema de controle computadorizado reduziu o volume de efluentes em 54% em relação ao sistema de controle convencional e, simultaneamente, impediu a salinização do substrato por meio da manutenção da CE média diária da solução drenada entre 2,9 e 3,5 dS m-1.

Abstract

NA48/2 results contributing to ChPT testing are presented. A sample of 1663 events of the rare decay $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ has been selected with a minimume+e−effective mass of 140 MeV. The measured model independent decay rate is in agreement with ChPT predictions. The branching ratio of the $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ decay, never observed so far, has been obtained from a sample of about 5000 candidates with less than 6% background, also in agreement with ChPT predictions. In addition, a most precise measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic formfactors has been obtained from 4.4 millionKe3and 2.3 millionKµ3events collected in 2004.

Abstract

The first observation of the $K^\pm → π^\pm π^0 e^+ e^-$ rare decay by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS is reported, based on $∼2\times 10^{11} K^\pm$ decays recorded in 2003-2004. From a sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background the branching ratio in the full kinematic region is measured to be BR($K^± → π^± π^0 e^+ e^-) = (4.24\pm 0.14)\times 10^-6$.The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on Chiral Perturbation Theory. The CP-violating asymmetry between $K^\pm → π^+ π^0 e^+ e^-$ and $K^- → π^- π^0 e^+ e^-$ decay rates has been measured, providing an upper limit $|A_{CP}| < 4.82 \times 10^{-2}$ at 90% CL.The NA48/2 combined measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic form factors, based on 4.4 million $K^\pm → π^0 e^± ν_e$ and 2.3 million $K^\pm → π^0 μ^\pm ν_μ$ events collected in 2004, is presented. This result represents the most precise form factor measurement from a combined $K_{l3}^{\pm}$ analysis.

Abstract

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K±→π±π0e+e− decay from an exposure of 1.7×1011 charged kaon decays recorded in 2003–2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K±→π±π0e+e−)=(4.24±0.14)×10−6. The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated.

Abstract

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays to final states with multiple charged particles in 2003--2004. A new upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay $K^{\pm}\to\pi^{\mp}\mu^{\pm}\mu^{\pm}$ is reported: $\mathcal{B}(K^{\pm}\to\pi^{\mp}\mu^{\pm}\mu^{\pm}), Comment: 15 pages, accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract

The NA48/2 Collaboration at CERN has accumulated unprecedented statistics of rare kaon decays in the Ke4 modes: Ke4(+-) ($K^\pm \to \pi^+ \pi^- e^\pm \nu$) and Ke4(00) ($K^\pm \to \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu$) with nearly one percent background contamination. The detailed study of form factors and branching rates, based on these data, has been completed recently. The results brings new inputs to low energy strong interactions description and tests of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) and lattice QCD calculations. In particular, new data support the ChPT prediction for a cusp in the $\pi^0\pi^0$ invariant mass spectrum at the two charged pions threshold for Ke4(00) decay. New final results from an analysis of about 400 $K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \gamma \gamma$ rare decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN during low intensity runs with minimum bias trigger configurations are presented. Abstract

The NA48/2 and NA62 collaborations report on recent results, current status, and prospects of kaon physics at the CERN-SPS. The NA62 collaborations aims to measure the decay [Formula: see text] with an uncertainty of 10% or better. The NA62 detector and preliminary results from a pilot run in 2014 are presented. In addition, recent results of the NA48/2 collaboration are reported. A search for Dark Photons has been performed in [Formula: see text] decays via the kaon decays [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. No dark photon signal was observed and new upper limits on the mixing parameter [Formula: see text] and the dark photon mass were computed. We also report the first observation of the kaon decay [Formula: see text].

Abstract

The new published measurements of the K ± → π ± γ γ decay with minimum bias data samples collected by the two experiments NA48/2 and NA62 are discussed. The results include a model independent decay rate measurement and fits to Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) description. The model independent branching ratio in the kinematic range z = ( m γ γ / m K ) 2 > 0.2 , obtained by combining the NA48/2 and NA62 results, is B M I = ( 0.965 ± 0.63 ) × 10 − 6 . The combined branching ratio in the full kinematic range assuming a ChPT description is B C h P T = ( 1.003 ± 0.056 ) × 10 − 6 . The uncertainties are dominated by the statistical errors. The data support the ChPT prediction for a cusp in the di-photon invariant mass spectrum at the two pion threshold and are in agreement with both O ( p 4 ) and O ( p 6 ) ChPT predictions.

Abstract

A sample of $4.687\times 10^6$ fully reconstructed $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0_D$, $\pi^0_D\to\gamma e^+e^-$ decay candidates in the kinematic range $m_{ee}>10~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a negligible background contamination collected by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN in 2003-04 is analysed to search for the dark photon ($A'$) via the decay chain $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0$, $\pi^0\to\gamma A'$, $A'\to e^+e^-$. Abstract

A sample of 65210 $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu $ ($K_{e4}^{00}$) decay candidates with $1\%$ background contamination has been collected in 2003--2004 by the NA48/2 collaboration at the CERN SPS. A study of the differential rate provides the first measurement of the hadronic form factor variation in the plane $(M_{\pi\pi}^2 ,M_{e\nu}^2)$ and brings evidence for a cusp-like structure in the distribution of the squared $\pi^0\pi^0$ invariant mass around $4m_{\pi^+}^2$. Exploiting a model independent description of this form factor, the branching ratio, inclusive of radiative decays, is obtained using the $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0 \pi^\pm $ decay mode as normalization. It is measured to be BR$(K_{e4}) = (2.552 ± 0.010_{stat} \pm 0.010_{syst} \pm 0.032_{ext}) \times 10^{−5}$ which improves the current world average precision by an order of magnitude while the $1.4\%$ relative precision is dominated by the external uncertainty from the normalization mode. A comparison with the properties of the corresponding mode involving a $\pi^+ \pi ^-$ pair ($K_{e4}^{+-}$) is also presented.
