The Seridó UNESCO Global Geopark (SUGG) was approved in 2022. In all, the Geopark has 21 geosites, the main interest of which is geomorphological. Despite the importance of the geomorphological heritage in the SUGG territory, the area had not yet been mapped on a scale suitable for geoconservation actions by the SUGG technical staff and its scientific committee. The present work aims to identify landforms up to the fourth taxon, corresponding to types of relief forms, according to Ross's (1992) methodological proposal for the geomorphological mapping of Brazil. Landform hierarchy was established following the morphological taxon typology proposed by the RadamBrasil Project and described by Ross (1992). The first three taxons correspond to those of Diniz et al. (2017) for the Rio Grande do Norte geomorphological map. However, for this study, the fourth taxon was added. This scale and taxonomic level were considered suitable for geoconservation actions. Maps are also presented at higher taxonomic levels, with less detail, which are more suitable for geoeducation activities with schoolchildren in the SUGG territory.

Abstract This work studied the provision of ecosystem services by geodiversity, i.e., abiotic ecosystem services, which are classified into four types: regulating, provision, cultural and support. Each service consists of various benefits. The aim was to identify and draw up a comparison between the ecosystem services provided by exceptional landscapes and their surroundings. An evaluation method based on the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment was proposed. In the study area, the exception in the landscape is the relief, which conditions the climate and all the abiotic ecosystem service provision in the area. In this area, the degree of relevance of the ecosystem service provision is greater than in the dominant landscape. This greater provision of services in the exception area is conditioned by the relief.

The present paper aims to present a quantitative evaluation of the sites of geomorphological interest in the surroundings of Pedra da Boca State Park, Northeast Brazil. The methodology used was based on the proposal and procedures of Diniz, Araújo, and das Chagas’ study in 2022, which considers scientific and aesthetic value as central to the definition of a geomorphosite. After the choice of the form and its due adaptations, the field stage was carried out, consisting of the application of the evaluation at the sites of interest. Thus, to classify a site as a geomorphosite, it is necessary to have a high scientific and/or aesthetic value in quantification. If it does not have a high value in these categories, but has some other potential, it can be considered a geomorphological site. As a result, the geomorphological sites that stood out the most were Pedra da Boca (Mouth Stone) State Park, Pedra da Macambira (Macambira Stone), Cânion do Macapá (Macapá Canyon), Porão do Macapá (Macapá Basement), Pedra do Chapéu (Hat Stone), Cânion da Serra Verde (Serra Verde Canyon) and Peladas (Bare Rock), with only the latter not reaching the quantification needed to be considered a geomorphosite, thus constituting six geomorphosites and one geodiversity site.

As paisagens costeiras são bastante dinâmicas, sendo ponto de convergência de diversos vetores energéticos, o que torna estas áreas complexas de se compreender, devido as sazonalidades de variações quase que imprevisíveis. Nesse contexto, emerge a preocupação pela compreensão da configuração morfológica das dunas costeiras, discutindo sua estruturação e dinâmica. Sabendo disso, o presente estudo buscou mapear e compreender o sistema eólico do baixo São Francisco em Piaçabuçu, Alagoas, Brasil. Para tal foi utilizada metodologia sistemática de compreensão dos modelados eólicos, setorizando os conjuntos de associações morfológicos, utilizando imagens de satélite e softwares de código livre, para identificação das morfologias. Foram identificados 3 conjuntos de associações distintos, 11 subunidades em seus interiores, relacionados a processos superficiais indiferenciados, resultantes da relação entre cobertura vegetal, ventos e aporte sedimentar. Foi possível identificar também uma mudança morfológica de norte a sul do sistema eólico, relacionado a efetividade do vento frente a disponibilidade de sedimentos, evidenciando o que poderia ser um decaimento energético de sul para norte. Os dados obtidos e os produtos gerados possibilitaram interpretações novas, sobre uma área já amplamente estudada e bastante dinâmica geomorfologicamente, sendo importante para, em perspectivas futuras, subsidiar estudos científicos e técnicos na área.

Geodiversity as a theme was propagated mainly from the 1990s onwards, and more recently studies of geomorphodiversity have aimed to highlight the importance of geomorphology for geoheritage. This research includes a methodological comparison of quantitative assessment to show a new way of assessing geomorphodiversity that is linked to the central values (scientific and aesthetic) in the coastal zone of the municipality of Icapuí – Ceará, Brazil. The research starts from the hypothesis that there are places of high aesthetic value that do not have high scientific value. The hypothesis cannot be supported in the study site.

The Atlantic margin of South America is considered passive and stable. However, there are some local points of discordance within the Brazilian coastal region with more than 7490 km of extension, where there is only one tectonic relief. These sites are located in a marginal sedimentary basin in which there is a small area of Quaternary tectonic relief, which makes it scientifically relevant at an international level. The present work proposes using two methods for quantifying the geomorphological heritage of this area. The main difference between the methods is the use of aesthetic values together with scientific ones as central values in one of the methods, while the other method focuses only on scientific values. The quantitative evaluation performed here allowed for the identification of seven geomorphosites with one method and only four with the other. Considering the results obtained, meetings were held with civil society and with the state and local municipalities which presented the possibility of creating a geopark, given the area’s importance for understanding the history of the Earth and potential as a priority area for geoconservation.

The evaluation of viewpoint geosites is a recent topic in geosciences, as most works deal with a more general analysis of places and areas, but this one deals with something more specific. Therefore, the general objective of this paper is to propose a method for evaluating viewpoints, based on the assumption that it is necessary to use scientific and aesthetic values as core values in quantitative evaluation. The method used was built based on criteria from other authors, relating the issue of viewpoints to geodiversity, considering scientific and aesthetic values as central, but in addition to other values. With the application of this method at some viewpoints in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, it was possible to verify that from 12 sites, 9 were considered geomorphosites and only 3 geodiversity sites. Consequently, this method shows a significant response in highlighting the potential of a site, its geological composition, geomorphology, and landscape visualisation.

This article aims to analyze the distribution of deaths by COVID-19 in Brazilian municipalities and its relationship with socioeconomic aspects (income) until the data of July 14, 2020. A methodology was based on the selection of spatial autocorrelation based on the Global Index Moran and the Local Moran Index (LISA) in its univariate and bivariate forms. A univariate form was used to investigate the distribution of the Mortality Rate by COVID-19 (CMD), while the bivariate form was used to verify spatial autocorrelation between the variables TMC (dependent variable) and MHDI Income (independent variable) in Brazilian municipalities until the data of July 14, 2020. The results show the presence of clusters formed from groups of municipalities with high CMD values, mainly in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. In addition, a negative autocorrelation was found between the variables TMC and MHDI Income, with emphasis on large territorial portions of the North and Northeast regions. The number of cases of COVID-19 in a geographical area and the income of its population are essential factors for understanding the distribution of habits related to this disease.

The salt work activity has been practiced extensively throughout the Brazilian coast from Para State to the Rio de Janeiro State, today the mechanized salt industry from the Northern Rio Grande do Norte’s coast produce about 94% of the Brazilian sea salt. The entrepreneurship action of the businessmen who invested in the Rio Grande do Norte’s salt works was primarily responsible for the creation of the current productive structure and internal trade of sea salt, in which the Rio Grande do Norte produces most of this important input to industry and agriculture of the country. The corporate entrepreneurship of the Rio Grande do Norte’s salt works was analyzed from the perspective of Schumpeter’s theory, since they could be identified the five key points of this theory in the development of the Rio Grande do Norte’s salt industry. Taking advantage of the best natural conditions for the installation activity, entrepreneurs have created an environment that can artificially boost, mechanically, the productivity of has industry. Changes in the production structure also caused changes in the spatial structure of areas dedicated to the production of sea salt.

O mapeamento geomorfológico do estado do Rio Grande do Norte procurou seguir em grande parte a metodologia adotada por Santos et. al. (2006) para o estado do Paraná, a fim de atualizar os conhecimentos da cartografia geomorfológica regional. A escala adotada foi 1:250.000, que permitiu a utilização dos três primeiros taxons, ou seja, representação cartográfica das Unidades Morfoestruturais, Unidades Morfoesculturais e Sub-unidades Morfoesculturais. No 1º taxon foram identificadas as unidades morfoestruturais: Cinturão Orogênico Brasiliano; Bacias Sedimentares Marginais; Vulcanismo e/ou Plutonismo Cenozoico; e Coberturas Sedimentares Quaternárias. No 2º taxon foram identificadas as unidades morfoesculturais: Depressão Sertaneja; Planalto da Borborema; Maciços e Planaltos Interiores; Planaltos e Tabuleiros Costeiros; Relevos Tectônicos nas Bacias Marginais; Relevos Associados ao Vulcanismo/Plutonismo Neógeno; e Planícies Costeiras e Fluviais. No 3º taxon foram trinta e quatro subunidades morfoesculturais. Este trabalho objetiva deve servir de subsídio ao planejamento e ordenamento do território do estado do Rio Grande do Norte.

Este trabalho visa a demonstrar a importância dos sistemas atmosféricos na constituição dos tipos climáticos do estado de Sergipe, bem como a sua distribuição. Foram utilizados dados pluviométricos mensais da série histórica da Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste (Sudene) que tiveram suas médias calculadas pelo Departamento de Ciências Atmosféricas da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande. A duração da estação seca foi calculada com base no índice xerotérmico, de Gaussen e Bagnouls (1953). Mapas temáticos foram elaborados utilizando os dados da Sudene, bem como softwares de Sistema de Informação Geográfica. O regime pluviométrico e a duração da estação chuvosa, no estado de Sergipe, variam de acordo com a época do ano e a localização geográfica. O índice de precipitação se distribui de forma decrescente do litoral para o interior do estado, evidenciando o efeito da continentalidade na distribuição das chuvas, o que ficou evidenciado nos mapas temáticos.

As propostas de compartimentação costeira do litoral brasileiro trataram, desde a sistematização dos estudos costeiros no Brasil, o litoral nordestino como uma grande região homogênea do ponto de vista físico-geográfico. Características como orientação da linha de costa, clima e processos oceanográficos conferem a essas duas áreas um quadro paisagístico contrastante, o que levou à investigação e proposição de uma nova compartimentação para o litoral nordestino, feita a partir do desmembramento da porção setentrional do litoral nordestino de sua porção oriental, passando a existir na região Nordeste duas grandes regiões litorâneas denominadas Costa Semiárida Brasileira (CSB) e Costa dos Recifes (CR). Com base nos dados mais recentes apresenta-se uma caracterização e compartimentação dessas duas grandes regiões, sendo o critério de geometria da linha de costa (concavidade ou convexidade) o norteador da delimitação dos compartimentos, tendo em vista que essa variável condiciona diretamente os elementos climáticos e oceanográficos nas duas costas nordestinas.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar o quanto uma escola pode contribuir com a adoção de umapolítica de reciclagem de seu principal material de consumo, o papel. É apresentado um modelo simples decálculo através de um estudo de caso. Os resultados obtidos podem servir de modelo para alunos e professoresde outras instituições

Environmental issues exist since last century as the biggest problems to be faced by humankind, and particularly, by science. Classical science was said to have the solution for all natural and social matters in the world. Geography also had the influence of rationalism that led, within itself, to the attempt of obtaining methods that were superior to other ones. Geography has the environment as its study object since its foundation, although the latter has been put aside. However, it returns as an issue to be analyzed by geographers in the current century. We wonder if there is a method able to deal with all issues on environmental order in Geography.
