29. AT: Asynchronous Teleconsultation for Healthcare Facilities in Rural Areas of Peru.

Abstract

Currently, telehealth services in rural regions of Peru primarily rely on telephone and text message communication between rural physicians and specialists based in cities, leading to delays in accessing specialized healthcare services. To overcome this limitation, we propose an information and communication technology (ICT) model for asynchronous teleconsultation in rural areas of Peru. This model, implemented through a system called SITEA, coordinates city-based specialists with treating physicians in rural areas and integrates care phases along with electronic clinical records. A case study conducted in a rural Peruvian healthcare facility, which had limited Internet connectivity and lacked teleconsultation services, revealed significant outcomes. Within 23 days of implementing SITEA, the facility began offering specialized care services, leading to a 60% reduction in patient transfers to specialized urban healthcare facilities. Furthermore, a satisfaction survey conducted with 50 patients resulted in overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the quality of medical care and future expectations for healthcare services. These positive outcomes can be attributed to the implementation of specialized services, the shift from physical to electronic records, and improved diagnostic accuracy. Abstract

Occupational stress ratings from 415 teachers of students with emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD) was modeled by regression, using teacher demographic characteristics, working conditions, and the ability to work with children with EBD as factors. All working condition variables, professional experience, and ability to work with externalizing children significantly affected occupational stress. (Contains references.) (Author/CR)

Abstract

Training in knowledge organization (KO) involves an understanding of theories for the construction, maintenance, use, and evaluation of logical documentary languages. Teaching these KO concepts in LIS programs are related basically to accessing documents and retrieving their intellectual content. This study focuses on access to documents and exploring the ethical theme in all its dimensions as applied to the teaching of an undergraduate discipline as part of a Bachelor of Library Science degree offered at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). As a methodology, a Project-based Pedagogy strategy is used in the teaching of a discipline called "Classification Systems: UDC" for students to classify a documentary resource from a collection on ethics. The teaching of bibliographic classification requires students to learn how to use the mechanisms available to form a notation as well as to use a syntax schema (tables) appropriately. Students also learn to determine a place for the document in the collection, considering the knowledge represented in the collection as a whole. Altogether, such a practice can help students to understand the theory underlying a classification system. The results show that the students were able to understand the basic concepts of knowledge organization. The students were also able to observe that the elements of the different tables of a classification tool are essential mechanisms for the organization of knowledge in other contexts, especially for specific purposes. Abstract

This paper describes the creation of a terminological glossary for the subject domain of knowledge organization systems (KOS). The glossary addresses the need for unambiguous conceptual information about the subject matter for students majoring in information science. It aims to create a glossary of definitions for concepts of different types of KOS. The theoretical and methodological foundations are based on corpus linguistics for the construction of the glossary. The methodology is characterized as an exploratory, descriptive, and applied study, using the ISKO Encyclopedia of Knowledge Organization (IEKO) as a source for data collection and terminology. The cut-off was based on the KOSs listed in NISO Z39.19 (2005; R2010) and ISO 25964 (2011; 2013). It is hoped that the terminological glossary created will improve students' understanding of the different KOSs, by compiling definitions and giving them greater semantics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
