This article aims at reassessing the historical and intellectual standing of Muḥammad Šīrīn Maġribī (d. 810/1408) by demonstrating the key role he played in the transmission of Ibn al-ʿArabī's (d. 638/1240) chains of spiritual descent. This is, at the same time, an original contribution to the study of Akbarī silsila s. A re-reading of familiar sources, together with a range of previously unknown or unexplored documents, leads to a reassessment of established scholarship on Šīrīn Maġribī which has hitherto seen him primarily as a Sufi poet. The present study provides an enhanced portrait of this figure, shedding light on his intense intellectual activity over and above poetry, and on the significant role he played in contemporary Sufi networks far beyond Tabriz and the Persianate World. In this new light, Maġribī emerges as an eminent and influential agent of Ibn al-ʿArabī's legacy through the transmission of Akbarī silsila s, the teaching of Ibn al-ʿArabī's works, and the writing of influential texts that contributed to the diffusion of Akbarī doctrines. Résumé: Cet article vise à réévaluer le statut historique et intellectuel de Muḥammad Šīrīn Maġribī (m. 810/1408) en démontrant le rôle central joué par ce dernier dans la transmission des chaînes de filiation spirituelle remontant à Ibn al-ʿArabī (m. 638/1240). Il s'agit également d'une contribution originale à l'étude des silsila s akbariennes. Une relecture de sources déjà exploitées, croisée avec une série de documents méconnus, conduit à une réévaluation de la littérature scientifique sur Šīrīn Maġribī, jusqu'à présent essentiellement focalisée sur son rôle de poète soufi. La présente étude, qui propose un portrait enrichi de cette figure, met en lumière son activité intellectuelle intense qui allait au-delà de la poésie, ainsi que le rôle significatif qu'il a joué dans des réseaux soufis de l'époque qui s'étendaient bien au-delà de Tabriz et du monde persan. Sous cette perspective nouvelle, Maġribī apparaît comme un éminent et influent maillon de transmission de l'héritage d'Ibn al-ʿArabī à travers les silsila s akbariennes, l'enseignement des ouvrages d'Ibn al-ʿArabī et la composition de textes influents qui ont contribué à la diffusion des doctrines akbariennes. The scope of this analysis is to reconstruct, with a brief look to the Italian case, the 'frame of reference' within which the rulings of the ECtHR on the Art. 6 of the ECHR, due to the particular strength that Article 46 of the Convention attributes to them, are made, to understand, at the outcome, how, and to what extent, the sanctioning activity of public bodies can be influenced by the principles of the ECHR as enforced by the Judges of Strasbourg. To this aim the focus will be addressed on the following, and more complex, profiles: (a) independence, impartiality and separation of functions; (b) sanctioning activity and discretionary powers; (c) sufficient judicial review and full jurisdiction, to conclude the investigation trying to verify, in the light of the latest directions taken by the ECtHR; (d) whether, and how, the types of sanctions can affect the conditions of the judicial protection. This article presents for the first time the treatise al-Nuzha al-Sāsāniyya by the Tabrizi Sufi scholar and poet Muḥammad Shīrīn Maghribī (d. 810/1408), hitherto considered lost. The analysis of this Persian cosmology work, the rich graphic materials it contains, and its relationship with some of Ibn al-ʿArabī's (d. 638/1240) most important cosmological texts including the treatise ʿUqlat al-mustawfiz and Chapter 371 of al-Futūḥāt al-Makkiyya , offers a unique opportunity for shedding new light on Maghribī as an eminent member of the so-called 'School of Ibn al-ʿArabī' and on his intellectual activity as a teacher and interpreter of the works and ideas of the Shaykh al-Akbar. At the same time, it explores the use of visual elements, and more specifically of diagrams, in the Sufi literature of the period, and their potential value for codicological and philological purposes. Although the science of the occult properties of the Qurʾān (ʿilm ḫawāṣṣ al-Qurʾān) has been regarded by Muslim intellectuals as an independent discipline within the classification of the sciences and has generated an independent literary genre over the centuries, it has never been the subject of a specific survey within Islamic Studies. Often wrongly considered simply as a component of related disciplines, the most important texts belonging to this genre remain understudied and are not critically edited. Many reasons suggest that the study of the genesis of this concept, of the homonymous discipline and of its literary corpus represent an important desideratum for the history of magic and of the occult sciences in Islam. Based on philological examination of numerous primary sources, this article aims to situate the science of the occult properties of the Qurʾān and its literature within the History of ideas in the Muslim world. Coronary stenting (stent implantation) has evolved over the last 5 years with changes in stent design, stent material and the implantation technique. The use of high-pressure balloon inflation (HP), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and appropriate antiplatelet therapy have contributed to the abolishment of the need for subsequent anticoagulation, allowing extended stent applications. We compared results in three groups of patients having stent implantation throughout the period of evolution: group A: no IVUS, no HP, with subsequent anticoagulation treatment (n 3 434); group B: no IVUS, yes HP, without subsequent anticoagulation treatment (n 3 192); and group C: yes IVUS, yes HP, without subsequent anticoagulation treatment (n 3 588). The primary success rates were comparable in all groups. There was a clear change in indications for stenting in groups B and C compared with group A (elective stenting: group A 3 32%; group B 3 66%; group C 3 69%; P < 0.0001), in reference vessel size (group A 3 3.22 3 0.37 mm; group B 3 2.92 3 0.56 mm; group C 3 2.98 3 0.57 mm; P < 0.0001), and for presence of type B2 and C lesions (group A 3 57%; group B 3 72%; group C 3 74%; P < 0.001). The complication rate significantly decreased in group C (group A 3 3.6%; group B 3 4.1%; group C 3 1.2%; P < 0.001) and the mean patient hospital stay decreased to 2 days in groups B and C due to the abolition of the need for anticoagulant treatment. The angiographic restenosis rate increased in groups B and C (group A 3 20%; group B 3 34%; group C 3 32%; P < 0.001). The need for a repeat procedure increased as stenting of more complex lesions and smaller vessels was attempted: target lesion revascularization (TLR) was performed in 16% of patients in group A (73/434), in 18% of group B (35/192) and in 22% of group C (129/588) (P 3 0.04 for A versus C). Major cardiac events (MACE) occurred in 142 patients in group A (33%), 60 patients in group B (31%) and in 181 patients in group C (30%). The evolving technique of coronary stenting has expanded the spectrum of indications and range of coronary vessels attempted, and decreased the complication rates and hospital stay. However, in less-favorable subsets, additional improvements are needed to affect the long-term outcome.
