Novel clade 2.3.4.4 H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) outbreaks have occurred since early 2015 in Taiwan and impacted the island economically, like they have many countries. This research investigates the immunogenicity of two HPAIV-like particles to assess their promise as vaccine candidates.

During the trial production of Armillarisin A for injection (AA-I), unidentified needle-like yellow-brown crystals were occasionally observed. Here, we report an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) method for determining the source of the visible foreign bodies in the formulations of Armillarisin A active pharmaceutical ingredient (AA-API). AA-API, photolyzed samples, the intermediate polymer, and the excipient analyzed determined after the separation on a Waters Symmetry C18 (3.5 μm, 4.6 × 75 mm) column with a mobile phase consisting of a methanol/acetic acid (0.1 mol/L) aqueous solution (50:50). Furthermore, the crystal type of the visible foreign bodies, the intermediate polymer and AA-API were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The results revealed that the characteristics of the visible foreign solids were the same as those of AA-API as regards UPLC peak position (368 nm) and MS spectrum in negative ion detection mode. The visible foreign solids were thus identified as unpolymerized crystals of AA-API and were attributed to AA-API itself. The results showed that the production process could be improved by changing the stirring method and frequency as well as by optimizing the polymerization temperature to ensure the safety, stability, and control of the product quality in the stage of batch production. Background. The traditional indwelling needle catheter is hard and can only complete one puncture at a time. The safety and indwelling needle catheter is soft, with a large lumen, with high success rate of blood collection, and one puncture completes two operations, so it is of important value and significance to study the new safety and indwelling needle. To explore the clinical utility of a novel blood collection device with indwelling needle for blood collection among pediatric patients. Methods. A total of 300 children who were admitted to the children's hospital from March to June 2020 were selected and randomly divided into the control group (148) and the observation group (152). The control group received venipuncture using regular needles for infusion and blood collection. For the observation group, a modified indwelling needle device was used for the procedures. Comparisons were made between the two devices in five aspects: blood sample quality, operation time, needlestick incidence, related complications, and patient satisfaction. Results. There was no significant difference in coagulation rate between the two groups, but slightly lower overall hemolysis incidence in the observation group. The unqualified rate of blood specimens collected in the observation group was 10.0% lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Shorter operation time, lower incidence of needlestick injuries, and improved satisfaction were observed in the group using the novel blood collection device. Conclusions. This modified blood collection device is superior to the regular venipuncture needle, in terms of safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction; thus, it has potential for broad clinical applications for infusion and blood collection. Pathological angiogenesis is mainly initiated by the binding of abnormal expressed vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) to their receptors (VEGFRs). Blocking the VEGF/VEGFR interaction is a clinically proven treatment in cancer. Our previous work by epitope scan had identified cyclic peptides, mimicking the loop 1 of VEGF-A, VEGF-B and placental growth factor (PlGF), inhibited effectively the VEGF/VEGFR interaction in ELISA. We described here the docking study of these peptides on VEGFR1 to identify their binding sites. The cellular anti-angiogenic activities were examined by inhibition of VEGF-A induced cell proliferation, migration and tube formation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The ability of these peptides to inhibit MAPK/ERK1/2 signaling pathway was examined as well. On chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model, a cyclic peptide named B-cL1 with most potent in vitro activity showed important in vivo anti-angiogenic effect. Finally, B-cL1 inhibited VEGF induced human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells proliferation. It showed anti-tumoral effect on SGC-7901 xenografted BALB/c nude mouse model. The cyclic peptides B-cL1 constitutes an anti-angiogenic peptide drug lead for the design of new and more potent VEGFR antagonists in the treatment of angiogenesis related diseases. Abstract Background The polyhedrin gene promoter has an essential role in regulating foreign gene expression in baculovirus expression vector systems (BEVS); however, the high-level transcription mechanism is still unknown. One-hybrid screening in yeast is a powerful way of identifying rapidly heterologous transcription factors that can interact with the polyhedrin promoter DNA sequence. In the current study, total RNA was extracted from the fat bodies of fifth-instar silkworm larvae that had been infected with Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV) for 5 days; complementary DNA (cDNA) was then generated using reverse-transcription (RT)-PCR to construct a silkworm gene expression library. Key polyhedrin promoter bait sequences were synthesized to generate a bait yeast strain, which was used to screen the one-hybrid cDNA library. Results In total, 12 positive yeast colonies were obtained from the SD/-Leu/AbA plates; sequencing analysis showed that they belong to two different protein cDNA colonies. Positive colonies underwent bioinformatics analysis, which revealed one colony to be ribosomal proteins [B. mori ribosomal protein SA (BmRPSA)] and the other to be NPV DNA-binding proteins (DBP). To further verify the regulatory function of these two protein groups, transient expression vectors (pSK-IE-dbp and pSK-IE-BmRPSA) were constructed. The recombinant plasmids were then transfected into cultured B. mori N (BmN) cells, which had been infected with a recombinant bacmid containing the gene encoding luciferase (luc). The results showed that overexpression of either dbp or BmRPSA upregulated the polh promoter-driven transcription of luc in BmN cells. In addition, dbp or BmRPSA RNA interference (RNAi) resulted in the downregulation of luciferase reporter expression in BmN cells, demonstrating that DBP and BmRPSA are important for luc transcription. EMSA results further confirmed that DBP could directly bind to the conserved single-stranded polh promoter region in intro. However, EMSA assay also showed that BmRPSA did not bind to this region, precluding a direct DNA association. Conclusions Both DBP and BmRPSA are important for polh transcription. DBP can regulate polh promoter activity by direct binding to the conserved single-stranded polh promoter region, BmRPSA may regulate polh promoter activity by indirect binding to this region.

Abstract Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNA molecules that regulate gene expression by targeting messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and causing mRNA cleavage or translation blockage. Of the 355 Arthropod miRNAs that have been identified, only 21 are B. mori miRNAs that were predicted computationally; of these, only let-7 has been confirmed by Northern blotting. Results Combining a computational method based on sequence homology searches with experimental identification based on microarray assays and Northern blotting, we identified 46 miRNAs, an additional 21 plausible miRNAs, and a novel small RNA in B. mori. The latter, bmo-miR-100-like, was identified using the known miRNA aga-miR-100 as a probe; bmo-miR-100-like was detected by microarray assay and Northern blotting, but its precursor sequences did not fold into a hairpin structure. Among these identified miRNAs, we found 12 pairs of miRNAs and miRNA*s. Northern blotting revealed that some B. mori miRNA genes were expressed only during specific stages, indicating that B. mori miRNA genes (e.g., bmo-miR-277) have developmentally regulated patterns of expression. We identified two miRNA gene clusters in the B. mori genome. bmo-miR-2b, which is found in the gene cluster bmo-miR-2a-1/bmo-miR-2a-1*/bmo-miR-2a-2/bmo-miR-2b/bmo-miR-13a*/bmo-miR-13b, encodes a newly identified member of the mir-2 family. Moreover, we found that methylation can increase the sensitivity of a DNA probe used to detect a miRNA by Northern blotting. Functional analysis revealed that 11 miRNAs may regulate 13 B. mori orthologs of the 25 known Drosophila miRNA-targeted genes according to the functional conservation. We predicted the binding sites on the 1671 3'UTR of B. mori genes; 547 targeted genes, including 986 target sites, were predicted. Of these target sites, 338 had perfect base pairing to the seed region of 43 miRNAs. From the predicted genes, 61 genes, each of them with multiple predicted target sites, should be considered excellent candidates for future functional studies. Biological classification of predicted miRNA targets showed that "binding", "catalytic activity" and "physiological process" were over-represented for the predicted genes. Conclusion Combining computational predictions with microarray assays, we identified 46 B. mori miRNAs, 13 of which were miRNA*s. We identified a novel small RNA and 21 plausible B. mori miRNAs that could not be located in the available B. mori genome, but which could be detected by microarray. Thirteen and 547 target genes were predicted according to the functional conservation and binding sites, respectively. Identification of miRNAs in B. mori, particularly those that are developmentally regulated, provides a foundation for subsequent functional studies.

Whitespotted bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium plagiosum), a member of the cartilaginous fish family, has an extremely large liver and demonstrates a strong regeneration ability and immune regulation. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) is an important class of non-coding RNAs. Increasing evidences suggest that circRNAs are a kind of potential regulators. Recently, researchers have isolated and identified different circRNAs from various species, while few reports were on the circRNAs of C. plagiosum. In this study, we have identified a total of 4,558 circRNAs in the liver of C. plagiosum. This finding suggests that circRNAs are not evenly distributed in the chromosomes and follow the GT-AG rule during cyclization. Alternative back-splicing might exist in shark circRNAs as shown by the authenticity identification of predicted circRNAs. The binding strength of circRNAs (<2,000 bp) and the detected miRNAs in shark liver were simultaneously analyzed to construct an mRNA–miRNA–circRNA network for the Glutathione S-transferase P1 gene, and the circRNA authenticity was simultaneously verified. Our data provide not only novel insights into the rich existence of circRNAs in marine animals, but also a basis for characterizing functions of identified circRNAs in the liver homeostasis of C. plagiosum. In the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus (DM), islet microvasculares are severely damaged due to glucolipotoxicity and other reasons. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an indispensable and specific angiogenic factor in the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetic islet microvascular disease. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are regarded as a promising treatment of diabetes because of their immunosuppressive effect and multipotential differentiation potency. In this study, we tested whether MSCs over-expressing VEGF conditioned medium (MSC-VEGF-CM) could ameliorate pancreatic islet endothelial cells (MS-1) dysfunction induced by a common diabetic inducer palmitate (PA). We found that cell survival and migration were restrained by PA and partly repaired by the pro-protected of MSC-VEGF-CM. Meanwhile, PI-3K/AKT/m-TOR/eNOS and p38/MAPK signaling pathways were also up-regulated. Though apoptosis-related proteins, caspase-3 and caspase-9, had no significantly suppressed between MSC-VEGF-CM and MSC-CM alone, the expression levels of vascular surface factors such as CD31, VE-cadherin, occludin and ICAM-1, were remarkably up-regulated by the pro-protected of MSC-VEGF-CM. Our data suggested that MSC-VEGF-CM had therapeutic effect on the PA-induced dysfunction through the re-activation of PI-3K/AKT/m-TOR/eNOS and p38/MAPK signaling pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Liver is a vital organ present in animals for detoxification, protein synthesis, digestion and other functions and its powerful regenerative capacity is well known. C. plagiosum is an abundant fish that is representative of the cartilaginous class in the southeast coastal region of China and its liver accounts for > 70% of the fish's visceral weight and contains many bioactive substances. MicroRNAs (microRNAs) play important roles in a wide range of biological processes in eukaryotes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis. However, microRNAs in response to liver regeneration has not been well studied. This study aimed to identify the microRNAs that participate in liver regeneration and other liver-related diseases and to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of liver regeneration in sharks. To this end, normal and regenerating liver tissues from C. plagiosum were harvested 0, 3, 6, 12 and 24 h after partial hepatectomy (pH) and were sequenced using the Illumina/Solexa platform. In total, 309 known microRNAs and 590 novel microRNAs were identified in C. plagiosum . There were many microRNAs differentially expressed in the normal and regenerating livers between time points. Using target prediction and GO analysis, most of the differentially expressed microRNAs were assigned to functional categories that may be involved in regulating liver regeneration, such as cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. TBC1D15 belongs to the TBC (Tre-2/Bub2/Cdc16) domain family and functions as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for Rab GTPases. So far, the structure of TBC1D15 or the TBC1D15·Rab complex has not been determined, thus, its catalytic mechanism on Rab GTPases is still unclear. In this study, we solved the crystal structures of the Shark and Sus TBC1D15 GAP domains, to 2.8 Å and 2.5 Å resolution, respectively. Shark-TBC1D15 and Sus-TBC1D15 belong to the same subfamily of TBC domain-containing proteins, and their GAP-domain structures are highly similar. This demonstrates the evolutionary conservation of the TBC1D15 protein family. Meanwhile, the newly determined crystal structures display new variations compared to the structures of yeast Gyp1p Rab GAP domain and TBC1D1. GAP assays show that Shark and Sus GAPs both have higher catalytic activity on Rab11a·GTP than Rab7a·GTP, which differs from the previous study. We also demonstrated the importance of arginine and glutamine on the catalytic sites of Shark GAP and Sus GAP. To develop biocompatible composite microspheres for novel hemostatic use, we designed and prepared a novel biomaterial, composite microspheres consisting of carboxymethyl chitosan, sodium alginate, and collagen (CSCM). The ultra-structure of CSCM was investigated by scanning electron microscopy assay. In hemostatic function experiment, it was found that CSCM could facilitate platelet adherence, platelet aggregation, and platelet activation in vitro. Besides, the maximum swelling of CSCM submerged in PBS for 50 min was over 300% of that exhibited by commercial hemostatic compound microporous polysaccharide haemostatic powder (CMPHP). In addition, CSCM exhibited good biodegradability and non-cytotoxicity. These results demonstrated that CSCM may be useful in platelet plug formation, and this study would provide important information for further research on hemostasis experiment in vivo. Human growth hormone (hGH) is a peptide hormone secreted by eosinophils of the human anterior pituitary, and a regulatory factor for a variety of metabolic pathways. A 30-kD protein from the pupa stage of silkworm was detected by Western blotting and confirmed by immunoprecipitation based on its ability to bind to anti-hGH antibody. This protein, named BmhGH-like protein, was purified from fresh silkworm pupas through low-temperature homogenization, filtration, and centrifugation to remove large impurity particles. The supernatants were precipitated, resuspended, and passed through a molecular sieve. Further purification by affinity chromatography and two-dimensional electrophoresis resulted in pure protein for analysis by MS MALDI-TOF-MS analysis. An alignment with predicted proteins indicated that BmhGH-like protein consisted of two lipoproteins, which we named hGH-L1 and hGH-L2. These proteins belong to the β-trefoil superfamily, with β domains similar to the spatial structure of hGH. Assays with K562 cells demonstrated that these proteins could promote cell division in vitro. To further validate the growth-promoting effects, hGH-L2 was cloned from pupa cDNA to create recombinant silkworm baculovirus vBmNPV-hGH-L2, which was used to infect silkworm BmN cells at low titer. Flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that the protein shortened the G0/G1 phase of the cells, and enabled the cells to rapidly traverse the G1/S phase transition point to enter S phase and promote cell division. Discovery of hGH-like protein in silkworm will once again arouse people’s interest in the potential medicinal value of silkworm and establish the basis for the development of new hormone drugs. A key molecule in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a 42-amino acid isoform of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ42), which is the most toxic element of senile plaques. In this study, to develop an edible, safe, low-cost vaccine for AD, a cholera toxin B subunit (CTB)-Aβ42 fusion protein was successfully expressed in silkworm pupae. We tested the silkworm pupae-derived oral vaccination containing CTB-Aβ42 in a transgenic mouse model of AD. Anti-Aβ42 antibodies were induced in these mice, leading to a decreased Aβ deposition in the brain. We also found that the oral administration of the silk worm pupae vaccine improved the memory and cognition of mice, as assessed using a water maze test. These results suggest that the new edible CTB-Aβ42 silkworm pupae-derived vaccine has potential clinical application in the prevention of AD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background We had previously reported high androgenic and estrogenic activities in seawaters in confined clusters close to Singapore. Further investigations revealed a hitherto unsuspected link between estrogenic/androgenic activity and net phytoplankton count. Objective The primary objective of this study was to investigate the cause of a correlation between net phytoplankton and endocrine activity, and corroborate this observation, and rule out other possible confounding factors. Our secondary objective was to study if these estrogenic secretions can impact human health. Methods Five species of phytoplankton, Gymnodinium catenatum , Prorocentrum minimum , Alexandrium leei, Chattonella marina, and Fibrocapsa japonica, were isolated from Singapore waters and mass cultured and the cells and culture media screened for estrogenic and androgenic activity using human cell-based bioassays. Results The raphidophytes C. marina and F. japonica displayed significant estrogenic activity whilst the dinoflagellates G. catenatum and P. minimum displayed significant androgenic activity in both the cell extracts and the cell culture media extract. Conclusions Our data shows that selected phytoplankton isolates are potent secretors of estrogenic and androgenic substances, which are potential endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). As the harmful nature of EDCs is largely due to their bioaccumulation in the aquatic food chain our findings imply that the impact of these phytoplankton secretions needs to be investigated especially for seafoods, which are only a single trophic level away from phytoplankton. Alternatively, should these phytoplankton-origin EDCs not accumulate through marine food chains to significantly impact humans or marine mammals, our results indicate that functional assays could greatly over-estimate the risk from naturally occurring EDCs produced by marine phytoplankton. It remains to be determined if these EDCs affect zooplankton and other organisms that directly feed on marine phytoplankton, or if the secreted EDCs can directly impact other marine fauna. The E( spl) mγ gene in Drosophila is a regulatory target gene downstream of the Notch pathway. BmE( spl) mγ ( Bombyx mori, E( spl) mγ) is an ortholog of the Drosophila E( spl) mγ gene, and the gene encodes a protein with 248 amino acid residues. This gene was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). The recombinant protein was purified and subsequently used to generate a rabbit polyclonal antibody. Western blotting analyses showed that BmE( spl) mγ expression is high in pupa and egg, and low in larva and moth. In the fifth instar larva, the protein levels are high in head, epidermis, sexual gland, trachea, and the fatbody and low in the Malpighian tubule, hemolymph, gut, and silk gland. The further immunohistochemical analyses also showed higher BmE( spl) mγ expression in the head of fifth instar larva and pupa. Of the four moth parts studied, the thorax had the highest expression level. Thus, BmE(spl)mγ might be associated with neurogenesis in silkworm. Furthermore, DAPT (a γ-secretase inhibitor and an indirect inhibitor of Notch) blocking experiments showed that higher concentrations of the blocking agent and a longer processing time reduce the transcription levels of the BmE( spl) mγ gene, demonstrating that the silkworm BmE( spl) mγ gene is associated with the Notch signal pathway. Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an event that follows a myocardial infarction. As such, close observation and appropriate patient management is paramount in the treatment process of interventional surgery. The pathogenesis of MIRI has not been fully elucidated. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore of novel targets for MIRI treatment whilst also determining their possible underlying mechanism of action. The plasma samples used in the present study were collected from 30 patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and 30 healthy volunteers. H9c2 rat cardiomyoblasts were subjected to hypoxia and reoxygenation (H/R) modeling to establish an in vitro MIRI model. Initially, the expression levels of Cbl proto-oncogene (CBL) in ICM heart tissue, normal heart tissue, H/R-induced H9c2 cells and normal H9c2 cells were detected using quantitative PCR and western blotting. With the application of Cell Counting Kit-8, western blotting and Tunnel assay, the proliferation, oxidative stress and apoptosis of H/R-induced cells were assessed. Moreover, co-IP assay was employed to testify the interaction between CBL and GRB2. The present study revealed that CBL expression was upregulated in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and H/R-induced H9c2 cells in comparison with that in normal heart tissue and normal H9c2 cells, respectively. The genetic silence of CBL using small interfering RNA promoted the proliferation and oxidative stress of H/R-induced cells but repressed the apoptosis. The full-length wild-type of growth factor receptor-bound protein 2 (GRB2) was ligated into pcDNA3.1 to achieve GRB2 overexpression, which revealed that GRB2 overexpression reversed the effects of CBL knockdown on cells, suggesting that it may mediate these processes downstream. In conclusion, under hypoxic conditions, CBL knockdown promoted the proliferation and antioxidant capacity of cardiomyocytes whilst inhibiting apoptosis, by downregulating GRB2 expression. Abstract: Background: Prohibitin (PHB) is an evolutionarily conserved multifunctional protein with ubiquitous expression. However, its molecular roles are largely unknown. Methods: To better understand the function of prohibitin protein in silkworm (BmPHB), its coding sequence was isolated from a cDNA library of silkworm pupae. An His-tagged BmPHB fusion protein was expressed in Escherichia coli Rosetta (DE3) and purified with affinity and reversed-phase chromatography. Purified rBmPHB was used to generate anti-BmPHB polyclonal antibody. The subcellular localization of BmPHB was analysed by immunohistochemistry. Results: BmPHB gene has an ORF of 825bp, encoding a predicted peptide with 274 amino acid residues. Immunostaining indicate that prohibitin is expressed in nucleus and predominately in cytoplasm. Western blot analyses indicated that, in the fifth instar larva, BmPHB was expressed descendingly in gonad, malpighian tubule, trachea, fatty body, intestine, and head. However, no expression was detected in larva''s silk gland and epidermis. In addition, BmPHB was expressed in the nascent egg, larva and pupa, but not in the moth. Conclusions: The expression of BmPHB gene presents differential characteristic in different stage and tissues. It may play important roles in the development of silkworm. General significance: Studies on prohibitin have been still restricted to a few specific insects and insect cell lines such as Drosophila, Acyrthosiphon pisum and mosquito cell lines, not yet in silkworm. Abstract: 14-3-3 proteins, which have been identified in a wide variety of eukaryotes, are highly conserved acidic proteins. In this study, we identified two genes in silkworm that encode 14-3-3 proteins (Bm14-3-3ζ and Bm14-3-3ε). Category of two 14-3-3 proteins was identified according to phylogenetic analysis. Bm14-3-3ζ shared 90% identity with that in Drosophila, while Bm14-3-3ε shared 86% identity with that in Drosophila. According to Western blot and real time PCR analysis, the Bm14-3-3ζ expression levels are higher than Bm14-3-3ε in seven tissues and in four silkworm developmental stages examined. Bm14-3-3ζ was expressed during every stage of silkworm and in every tissue of the fifth instar larvae that was examined, but Bm14-3-3ε expression was not detected in eggs or heads of the fifth instar larvae. Both 14-3-3 proteins were highly expressed in silk glands. These results suggest that Bm14-3-3ζ expression is universal and continuous, while Bm14-3-3ε expression is tissue and stage-specific. Based on tissue expression patterns and the known functions of 14-3-3 proteins, it may be that both 14-3-3 proteins are involved in the regulation of gene expression in silkworm silk glands. Subclinical mastitis is one of the major problems affecting dairy animals' productivity and is classified based on milk somatic cell counts (SCC). Previous data showed that marine-derived Bacillus amyloliquefaciens-9 (GB-9) improved the immunity and the nonspecific immune defense system of the body. In this study, the potential role of GB-9 in improving subclinical mastitis was assessed with Radix Tetrastigmae (RT) as a positive control in subclinical mastitis Saanen dairy goats. The current data showed that GB-9 and RT significantly reduced the SCC in dairy goats. After being fed with GB-9 or RT, the decreased concentrations of malondialdehyde, IgA, IgM, IL-2, IL-4, and IL-6 were observed. The amplicon sequencing analysis of fecal samples revealed that GB-9 significantly altered the bacterial community. Bacteroides and Phascolarctobacterium were the major genera that respond to GB-9 feeding. The correlation analysis using weighted gene co-expression network analysis showed a MePink module was most associated with the serum concentrations of immunoglobulin and interleukin. The MePink module contained 89 OTUs. The feeding of GB-9 in decreasing the SCC was associated with the altered abundance of Bacteroides, which was correlated with the concentrations of immunoglobulins and chemokines. Shark is a cartilaginous fish that produces new antigen receptor (IgNAR) antibodies. This antibody is identified with a similar human heavy chain but dissimilar sequences. The variable domain (VNAR) of IgNAR is stable and small in size, these features are desirable for drug discovery. Previous study results revealed the effectiveness of VNAR as a single molecule or a combination molecule to treat diseases both in vivo and in vitro with promising clinical applications. We showed the first evidence of IgNAR alternative splicing from spotted bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium plagiosum), broadening our understanding of the IgNARs characteristics. In this review, we summarize the discoveries on IgNAR with a focus on its advantages for therapeutic development based on its peculiar biochemistry and molecular structure. Proper applications of IgNAR will provide a novel avenue to understand its special presence in cartilaginous fishes as well as designing a number of drugs for undefeated diseases.
