Medizinische Klinik und Poliklinik, 2Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Universitätsmedizin Mainz, 3Cardiopraxis Mainz, Gerinnungsambulanz, MED Facharztzentrum, Mainz, Germany Abstract: Many patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) receive anticoagulation or antiplatelet therapy due to atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, thromboembolic disease, or peripheral artery disease. The treatment usually includes vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) and/or platelet aggregation inhibitors. The direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) inhibiting factor Xa or thrombin represent an alternative for VKAs. In patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, caution is warranted, as DOACs can accumulate as they are partly eliminated by the kidneys. Thus, they can potentially increase the bleeding risk in patients with CKD. In patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) above 60 mL/min, DOACs can be used safely with greater efficacy and safety as compared to VKAs. In patients with CKD 3, DOACs are as effective as VKAs with a lower bleeding rate. The more the renal function declines, the lower is the advantage of DOACs over VKAs. Thus, use of DOACs should be avoided in patients with an eGFR below 30 mL/min, particularly, the compounds with a high renal elimination. Available data suggest that DOACs can also be used safely in older patients. In this review, use of DOACs in comparison with VKAs, heparins, and heparinoids, together with special considerations in patients with impaired renal function will be discussed. Abstract

In the context of their offer of interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (day-patient and inpatient), hospitals repeatedly have to contend with strict detailed checks of the procedure codes (OPS 8-918.xx; 8-91c) by health insurers and the medical service. The necessity of day-patient or inpatient treatment in the respective sector, documented therapy components, and the qualifications of the therapists are regularly reviewed. On 27 October 2020, the Federal Social Court ruled on the specific qualification of psychological psychotherapists (BSG, 27 October 2020, Ref.: B 1 KR 25/19 R). The ruling and its potential impact are explained and discussed in this overview.Krankenhäuser haben im Rahmen ihres Angebots für eine interdisziplinäre multimodale Schmerztherapie (teilstationär und stationär) immer wieder mit strengen Detailprüfungen der zu kodierenden Prozedurenkodes (OPS 8‑918.xx; 8‑91c) durch Krankenkassen und den Medizinischen Dienst zu kämpfen. Dabei werden regelmäßig die Notwendigkeit der (teil-)stationären Behandlung im jeweiligen Sektor, dokumentierte Therapieanteile und die Qualifikation der Therapeuten überprüft. Das Bundessozialgericht hat am 27.10.2020 zur konkreten Qualifikation von psychologischen Psychotherapeuten (BSG vom 27.10.2020, Az.: B 1 KR 25/19 R) entschieden. Das Urteil und seine potenziellen Auswirkungen werden in der vorliegenden Übersicht erläutert und diskutiert.

34. Curriculum-Based Measures and Performance on State Assessment and Standardized Tests: Reading and Math Performance in Pennsylvania

Abstract

General outcome measures (GOMs) provide educators with a means to evaluate student progress toward curricular objectives. Curriculum-based measurement (CBM) is one type of GOM that has a long history in the research literature with strong empirical support. With the increased emphasis on instruction linked to state standards and statewide achievement tests, the relationship between CBM and these measures has been called into question. This study examined the relationships between CBM of reading, math computation, and math concepts/applications and the statewide standardized achievement test as well as published norm-referenced achievement tests in two districts in Pennsylvania. Results showed that CBM had moderate to strong correlations with midyear assessments in reading and mathematics and both types of standardized tests across school districts. The data suggest that CBM can be one source of data that could be used to potentially identify those students likely to be successful or fail the statewide assessment measure. (Contains 8 tables.)

Abstract

Examines the acceptability and effectiveness ratings of three psychosocial interventions for childhood depression among school psychologist practitioners. Interventions included cognitive restructuring, self-control therapy, and social skills training. Cognitive restructuring and self-control therapy were rated as significantly more acceptable and effective than social skills training, although overall ratings for social skills training indicated it was still perceived as an acceptable intervention. Abstract

Investigates the utility of oral reading rate as a metric in monitoring students' progress over time within a literature-based curriculum. Curriculum-based measurement (CBM) probes were administered to 2nd- and 5th-grade students to monitor their progress in reading. Results suggest that the CBM oral reading rate is an effective metric for use with students involved in a literature-based curriculum. (Author/MKA)

Abstract

General- and special-education teachers evaluated the acceptability of two psychoeducational-assessment techniques: curriculum-based assessment (CBA) and norm-referenced tests (PNRT). Using the Assessment Rating Profile (ARP), the study compared teachers' ratings of a case study that presented data obtained using either CBA or PNRT. Teachers consistently rated CBA as a more acceptable method of assessment. Discusses implications for using CBA with teachers and school psychologists. (Author/JDM)
