BACKGROUND: The development of agricultural practices requires an understanding of the improvement of salt tolerance and crop growth in agricultural systems through magnetized‐ionized water irrigation. METHOD: This study examined the impacts of fresh water (F), brackish water (B), magnetized‐ionized fresh water (MIF), and magnetized‐ionized brackish water (MIB) on soil properties and the growth of cotton seedlings through microbial analysis during the cotton seedling period. RESULTS: The results revealed that magnetized‐ionized water irrigation improved soil water retention and promoted salt leaching. In comparison with F irrigation, plant height, leaf area index (LAI), dry matter accumulation (DM), and chlorophyll content (SPAD) levels increased by 3.61%, 4.07%, 5.76%, and 1.33%, respectively, under MIF irrigation. Similarly, when compared with B irrigation, LAI, DM, and SPAD increased by 5.13%, 6.12%, and 3.12% under MIB irrigation. Magnetized‐ionized water irrigation also led to a notable rise in the relative abundance of beneficial soil bacterial communities, particularly Pseudomonas and Azoarcus, as well as fungal communities like Trichoderma, while reducing the prevalence of pathogenic fungi, such as Lasionectria, Gibberella, and Alternaria. Notably, this irrigation approach induced alterations in soil properties, and partial least squares path modeling revealed significant links between soil properties and both cotton growth and fungal community structure (with path coefficients of −0.884 and 0.693, respectively). CONCLUSION: This study elucidated the distinct effects of soil properties and growth indices on cotton yield during the seedling period, providing a crucial scientific foundation for enhancing future agricultural production through the use of magnetized‐ionized water irrigation. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Background: Renal calculi are one of the most frequent diseases in urology, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) being the gold standard for treating renal calculi larger than 2 cm. However, traditional rigid nephroscope cannot bend, presents significant limitations during PCNL. This study aims to develop a novel digital flexible nephroscope for PCNL and verify its safety and efficacy using 3D printed models and ex vivo porcine kidney models, providing new equipment for PCNL. Methods: Based on the determined technical parameters, the novel digital flexible nephroscope was manufactured. First, 3D-printed model and ex vivo porcine kidney models were utilized to simulate the PCNL procedures. Then, the traditional rigid nephroscope and the novel digital flexible nephroscope were utilized to simulate the PCNL procedures on 10 ex vivo porcine kidneys for comparison. We observed and recorded the renal calyces visualized and accessed by both the traditional rigid nephroscope and the novel digital flexible nephroscope. Results: In both the 3D printing and ex vivo porcine kidney models, the novel percutaneous digital flexible nephroscope smoothly entered the renal collecting system through the percutaneous renal tract. It freely changed angles to reach most target calyces, demonstrating significant advantages over the traditional rigid nephroscope. Conclusion: The successful development of the novel percutaneous digital flexible nephroscope allows it to be used either independently or as an adjunct in complex stone cases, providing more effective and safer surgical equipment for percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Capillary water, serving as a crucial intermediary between groundwater and crop root layer moisture, is important for both soil retention and crop utilization. To investigate the effect of mulched drip irrigation (MDI) on upward capillary water in cotton fields with different application years (0, 10, 14, 18, 20, and 24 years) in the saline–sodic region of Northwest China, an indoor soil column test (one-dimensional capillary water rise experiment) was conducted. The results showed that the wetting front transport law, capillary water recharge, and wetting front transport rate over time exhibited an increasing trend in the early stages of MDI application (10 and 14 years), peaking at 18 years of application, followed by a decreasing trend. The relationship between the capillary water recharge and rising height was fitted based on the Green–Ampt model, and their slopes reveal that 14 and 18 years of MDI application required the largest amount of water per unit distance, indicating an excellent water-holding capacity beneficial for plant growth. Conversely, 0 years required the smallest amount of water per unit distance. Based on the movement characteristics of upper capillary water, we confirmed that the MDI application years (0–18 years) improves soil infiltration capacity, while the long-term application years (18–24 years) reduces groundwater replenishment to the soil. Furthermore, the HYDRUS-1D model was employed to simulate the capillary water rise process and soil moisture distribution under different MDl application years. The results showed an excellent consistency with the soil column experiments, confirming the accuracy of HYDRUS-1D in simulating the capillary water dynamics in saline–sodic areas. Broadband near-infrared phosphors have received unprecedented attention in areas such as non-destructive food testing, plant growth light sources, night vision lighting, and medical diagnostics. It is challenging to design phosphors with significant full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) width variations. In this work, Sr3SiAl10O20:Cr3+ (SSAO:Cr3+) has two emission centers and achieves an interesting change of emission peaks from the ultra-narrow band (FWHM = 37 nm) to ultra-wideband (FWHM = 225 nm) with increasing Cr3+ doping concentration. Photoluminescence decay lifetime fitting confirms the existence of energy transfer in two emission centers. The emission intensity and thermal stability of the phosphor after 950 nm were extended by introducing Yb3+ ions. A NIR phosphor-converted LED was fabricated using SSAO:Cr3+,Yb3+ and a 410 nm LED chip, which shows great potential in the fields of night vision illumination, non-destructive monitoring, and information encryption. In order to eliminate the limitations of traditional winter wheat yield prediction methods, the prediction models based on machine learning are used to improve the accuracy of winter wheat yield prediction. In this study, by collecting a large amount of domestic literature about wheat growth characteristics, the irrigation amount, fertilization amount, soil nutrient status, planting density, maximum leaf area index (LAImax), maximum aboveground dry matter accumulation (Dmax) and yield (Y) were chosen to develop the learning models. Using the data of the irrigation amount, fertilization amount, soil nutrient status and planting density as the training set, the regression prediction models (Gaussian process regression mode, linear regression model, regression tree mode and support vector machine model) were used to train and learn the data of the LAImax, Dmax and Y, respectively. The results show that the Gaussian regression model has the best precision compared to the other models. The coefficients of determination (R2) of the learning results of the Gaussian regression model for the LAImax, Dmax and Y are 0.9, 0.93 and 0.86, and the root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.57, 1125.1 and 640.41. Based on the data of the irrigation amount, nitrogen application amount, potassium application amount, phosphorus application amount, organic matter content, total nitrogen content, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen content, available phosphorus content, available potassium content and planting density, the method proposed in this paper can reliably predict the LAImax, the Dmax and Y of winter wheat. The widespread presence of microplastics (MPs) in the environment poses a significant threat to biological survival and human health. However, our understanding of the toxic effects of MPs on the kidneys remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanism of the toxic effects of MPs on the kidneys using an ischemia–reperfusion (IR) mouse model. Four‐week‐old ICR mice were exposed to 0.5 μm MPs for 12 weeks prior to IR injury. The results showed that MPs exposure could aggravate the IR‐induced damage to renal tubules and glomeruli. Although there were no significant changes in blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels 7 days after IR, MPs treatment resulted in a slight increase in both parameters. In addition, the expression levels of inflammatory factors (MCP‐1 and IL‐6) at the mRNA level, as well as macrophage markers (CD68 and F4/80), were significantly higher in the MPs + IR group than in the Sham group after IR. Furthermore, MPs exposure exacerbated IR‐induced renal fibrosis. Importantly, the expression of pyroptosis‐related genes, including NLRP3, ASC, GSDMD, cleaved caspase‐1, and IL‐18, was significantly upregulated by MPs, indicating that MPs exacerbate pyroptosis in the context of renal IR. In conclusion, our findings suggest that MPs exposure can aggravate renal IR‐induced pyroptosis by activating NLRP3‐GSDMD signaling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cotton holds a significant position among cash crops in China, with Xinjiang serving as the primary cotton‐growing region within the country. Agricultural practices involving plastic mulching have gained importance. However, the presence of residual plastic film affects the growth of cotton seedlings as well as the soil environment. Our study aimed to explore the impact of residual plastic film accumulation on the growth of cotton seedlings and the associated soil water‐salt environment. This was done through a barrel planting experiment, utilizing soil from cotton fields with varying durations of mulching. The study showed that when the mulching period exceeded 12 years (residual plastic film content of 260.77 kg hm−2), residual plastic film had a significant impact on cotton seedling growth and the soil environment. Residual plastic film reduces the seedling germination rate of cotton by up to 11.11% (7 days after irrigation, 15 years of film mulching, residual plastic film content of 309.88 kg hm−2). It also impedes the growth of cotton seedlings; plant height, stem thickness, and leaf area were reduced by 34.52%, 10.73%, and 37.18%, respectively (19 days after irrigation, 15 years of film mulching, residual plastic film content of 309.88 kg·hm−2). Compared with the treatment without residual plastic film, the shallow soil water content in the T5 treatment decreased by 1.19% (10 days after irrigation, 15 years of film mulching, residual plastic film content of 309.88 kg·hm−2). Residual plastic film in cotton fields subjected to long‐term mulching obstructs the normal growth and development of cotton seedlings while also impacting the transport of soil water and salt. Therefore, we recommend adopting biodegradable mulch or regularly recycling residual plastic film within mulched areas to prevent its accumulation and subsequent negative impacts. In recent years, microplastics (MPs) have gained significant attention as a persistent environmental pollutant resulting from the decomposition of plastics, leading to their accumulation in the human body. The liver, particularly of individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), is known to be more susceptible to the adverse effects of environmental pollutants. Therefore, to investigate the potential impact of MPs on the liver of diabetic mice and elucidate the underlying toxicological mechanisms, we exposed db/db mice to 0.5 μm MPs for 3 months. Our results revealed that MPs exposure resulted in several harmful effects, including decreased body weight, disruption of liver structure and function, elevated blood glucose levels, impaired glucose tolerance, and increased glycogen accumulation in the hepatic tissue of the mice. Furthermore, MPs exposure was found to promote hepatic gluconeogenesis by perturbing the PP2A/AMPK/HNF4A signaling pathway. In addition, MPs disrupt redox balance, leading to oxidative damage in the liver. This exposure also disrupted hepatic lipid metabolism, stimulating lipid synthesis while inhibiting catabolism, ultimately resulting in the development of fatty liver. Moreover, MPs were found to induce liver fibrosis by activating the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway. Furthermore, MPs influenced adaptive thermogenesis in brown fat by modulating the expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and genes associated with mitochondrial oxidative respiration thermogenesis in brown fat. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that MPs induce oxidative damage in the liver, disturb glucose and lipid metabolism, promote hepatic fibrosis, and influence adaptive thermogenesis in brown fat in diabetic mice. Senescent cells that accumulate are regarded as promising therapeutic targets. However, senolytic therapy failed to achieve satisfactory results. We previously discovered that young human plasma improved vascular endothelial cell senescence, and UNC5B might be a novel intervention target. Netrin-1, as a natural ligand of UNC5B, plays roles in multiple age-related vascular disorders, but its involvement in aging is still unclear. Here, we observed a significant decrease in plasma Netrin-1 levels in old healthy subjects compared to the young. In vivo, adeno-associated-virus-mediated delivery of Netrin-1 into aged mice significantly improved functional recovery in a model of hindlimb ischemia, promoted angiogenesis in ischemic tissues, and activated the endothelial nitric oxide synthase. Furthermore, we revealed that low-dose Netrin-1 recombinant protein significantly reduced senescence-associated-β-galactosidase-positive cells, inhibited the P53 pathway, promoted cell migration, increased tubule formation, and elevated nitric oxide production in senescent endothelial cells. However, UNC5B inhibition blocked the pro-angiogenesis effect of low-dose Netrin-1 on senescent cells or aortic rings. In summary, this study depicts that modulating Netrin-1 signaling can result in improved vascular health and Netrin-1 may have therapeutic potential for age-related ischemic diseases. Highly efficient near-infrared (NIR) phosphor converted light emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) can be used in a wide range of applications such as imaging and detection. At present, a few blue LED excitable NIR phosphors have been developed producing an output power of more than 60 mW at a 100 mA input current after pc-LED packing. In this paper, we report a series of Y3AlGa4−xO12:xCr3+ (YAGG:xCr3+) phosphors with emission bands covering 650–900 nm. The Y3AlGa3.9O12:0.1Cr3+ NIR phosphor has high thermal stability, and the integrated emission intensity at 423 K is 92.36% of that at 303 K. Meanwhile, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of the phosphors reaches up to 88.43%. Benefiting from the efficient NIR emission of Y3AlGa3.9O12:0.1Cr3+ phosphor, the prepared NIR pc-LEDs fabricated exhibit a high output power of 67.27 mW and an impressive photoelectric conversion efficiency of 22.49% at a driving current of 100 mA, indicating its great potential for pc-LED based applications. In this work, a series of BaSrGd4O8:xBi3+ blue phosphors was synthesized employing the high-temperature solid-state method. Phase purity of the samples was verified by X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. Time-resolved photoluminescence spectra revealed the existence of two distinct Bi sites. Subsequent optimization of dopant types and doping levels in the batch led to an almost twofold increase in quantum efficiency. The introduction of Eu3+ into the phosphors facilitated the construction of an energy transfer pathway. As the concentration of Eu3+ was increased, the emission color changed from blue to purple and finally to red. In addition, the thermal stability and potential applications of the phosphors were extensively investigated. Finally, two WLED devices were successfully fabricated with color rendering indices of 96.27 and 92.18, and correlated color temperatures of 5198 and 2475 K. A series of LaCaGaO4:xBi3+,yEu3+ (x = 0.002–0.04, y = 0.02–0.45) phosphors with adjustable emission colors were synthesized by high‐temperature solid‐state reaction. The samples were identified as pure phases by X‐ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement, and the crystal structures were analyzed in detail. The LaCaGaO4:xBi3+ phosphor shows an intense blue emission under near‐ultraviolet excitation, originating from the 3P1 → 1S0 transition. The spectrum analysis reveals that the Bi3+ ions occupy two luminescence centers in the LaCaGaO4 host and that energy transfer can occur. A model of the energy transfer between the Bi3+ and Eu3+ ions was also created and studied in detail. As the Eu3+‐concentration increased, the emission color of the LaCaGaO4:0.005Bi3+,yEu3+ phosphor changed from blue to pink to red. In addition, the fluorescence lifetime, quantum yield, thermal stability, and other properties of the phosphors were characterized and analyzed. Finally, two white light‐emitting diode devices with Ra values of 96.6 and 95 and correlated color temperatures of 4578 and 3324 K were fabricated, indicating the potential of phosphors for warm white lighting applications. The basement membrane (BM) affects the invasion and growth of malignant tumors. The role and mechanism of BM-associated lncRNAs in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) are unknown. In this study, we identified biomarkers of ccRCC and developed a risk model to assess patient prognosis. We downloaded transcripts and clinical data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Differential analysis, co-expression analysis, Cox regression analysis, and lasso regression were used to identify BM-associated prognostic lncRNAs and create a risk prediction model. We evaluated and validated the accuracy of the model using multiple methods and constructed a nomogram to predict the prognosis of ccRCC. GO, KEGG, and immunity analyses were used to explore differences in biological function. We constructed a risk model containing six BM-associated lncRNAs (LINC02154, IGFL2-AS1, NFE4, AC112715.1, AC092535.5, and AC105105.3). The risk model has higher diagnostic efficiency compared to clinical characteristics and can be used to forecast patient prognoses. We used renal cancer cells and tissue microarrays to verify the expression of lncRNAs in the risk model. We found that knocking down LINC02154 and AC112715.1 could inhibit the invasion ability of renal cancer cells. Amana, commonly known as 'East Asian tulips', has recently been found to harbor cryptic diversity due to recent field work and systematic investigations. In this study, we included 64 populations from all 12 Amana species and performed microscopic observations of their epidermal morphology. The leaf epidermis stomatal distribution of Amana can be characterized into three types: dense stomata (>10/per view or 263/mm2), sparse stomata (<10/per view or 263/mm2), and stomata absent. The epidermal cells of Amana can be characterized into four types: rectangular, long rectangular, nearly rectangular, and rhombic. The anticlinal wall morphology of the epidermal cells can be characterized into three types: linear, wavy, and nearly linear with mixed shallow waves. All the results were helpful for classification of Amana species. According to the reconstruction of ancestral characters analyses, the common ancestor of Amana is most likely to have leaves with dense stomata on both sides, and epidermal cells that have linear vertical walls.
