We commend the focal article by Dupré and Wille (2024) that introduces personality development goals at work. Yet, to many organizational researchers, this may strike as a bold proposal given its novelty and provocative nature. Seeing the potential of this proposal, we offer discussions on potential theoretical and methodological challenges that researchers, who are eager to advance this line of research, may encounter. We encourage future research to tackle these issues in order to further advance theoretical developments and practical applications of personality development at work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The literature on personality trait development has mainly focused on influences of life experiences in one single life domain (e.g., work or family) separate from one another and has primarily examined personality development in early life stages. Thus, less attention has been devoted to influences from interplays across different life domains and personality development in middle and late adulthood. Synthesizing the literature on personality science and organizational research, we built a theoretical model and investigated what, how, and why the interplay between two central life domains—work and family—may be related to personality trait development of people at their middle and late life stages, and more important, change-related reciprocal relationships between personality traits and work–family experiences. Generally, convergent findings with data from two longitudinal studies (National Survey of Midlife in the United States, maximum N = 3,192, three waves; and Health and Retirement Study, maximum N = 1,133, three waves except anxiety) revealed that work-to-family conflict, family-to-work conflict, work-to-family facilitation, and family-to-work facilitation mostly had lagged effects on changes of Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Neuroticism, and the influences were generally channeled through changes of anxiety. Personality traits also had lagged influences on changes of work–family experiences, with some influences deteriorating over time. Change-related reciprocal relationships were recorded mainly between Neuroticism and Extraversion with work–family experiences. Some selection effects were larger than socialization effects. Our research contributes to the personality and the work–family literature and represents a useful example of cross-fertilization of research in different areas of psychology to advance personality research. Melanoma is the most aggressive malignant skin tumor and arises from melanocytes. The resistance of melanoma cells to various treatments results in rapid tumor growth and high mortality. As a local therapeutic modality, photodynamic therapy has been successfully applied for clinical treatment of skin diseases. Photodynamic therapy is a relatively new treatment method for various types of malignant tumors in humans and, compared to conventional treatment methods, has fewer side effects, and is more accurate and non-invasive. Although several in vivo and in vitro studies have shown encouraging results regarding the potential benefits of photodynamic therapy as an adjuvant treatment for melanoma, its clinical application remains limited owing to its relative inefficiency. This review article discusses the use of photodynamic therapy in melanoma treatment as well as the latest progress made in deciphering the mechanism of tolerance. Lastly, potential targets are identified that may improve photodynamic therapy against melanoma cells.

Summary: While emerging studies pay much attention to the team–member exchange (TMX) relationship, they have produced mixed findings on TMX consequences. To clarify such inconsistencies, our research highlights the importance of distinguishing TMX contribution from TMX receipt and investigates the influence of TMX contribution–receipt (im)balance. Specifically, drawing upon conservation of resources (COR) theory and the TMX literature, we examine the impacts of TMX contribution–receipt (im)balance on emotional exhaustion and subsequently on silence. We also investigate the moderating role of authoritarian leadership in the aforementioned mediation model. Our pilot study demonstrated sufficient distinction between TMX contribution and TMX receipt scales. Two independent field studies consistently showed that compared with imbalanced situations, TMX contribution–receipt balance was associated with lower emotional exhaustion. In balanced situations, emotional exhaustion was lower when the balance was at a high rather than a low level (Study 1). Regarding imbalanced scenarios, a high contribution–low receipt condition was related to greater emotional exhaustion than a low contribution–high receipt condition (Study 2). Both studies also showed that the indirect effect of TMX contribution–receipt (im)balance on silence through emotional exhaustion was more pronounced when authoritarian leadership was high rather than low. Dielectrically graded insulation (DGI) serving as an embodiment of functionally graded materials in electrical insulation field displays extraordinary insulation strength compared with conventional uniform composite materials. In recent years, the design and fabrication of DGI toward industrial applications have become urgent issues. Here, we reported a construction strategy of DGI for gas-insulated equipment. A topology optimization method was applied to optimize the electric ($E$) field distribution of a 126-kV disk-type spacer with actual size. The spatial distribution of relative permittivity ($\varepsilon _{r}$) inside spacer was designed to improve the $E$ -field distributions along the spacer surface and near the triple junction region. Influences of design parameters on $\varepsilon _{r}$ distributions and the resultant $E$ -field mitigation degree were analyzed. Appropriate values of design parameters that balance the structure processability and $E$ -field mitigation results were selected. A three-layer dielectrically graded spacer, including high, medium, and low $\varepsilon _{r}$ regions, was constructed based on the topology optimization results. In addition, the influence of the area of design domain on the optimization results was analyzed. Numerical results indicate that the $E$ -field distribution of designed dielectrically graded spacers is significantly improved compared with that of a homogeneous spacer. In the situation with simplified electrode configuration, the maximum $E$ -field strength along the spacer and at triple junction area could be decreased by 10.5% and 43.4%, respectively. BORMAN (3) Abstract: Three Occupational Information Network (O*NET) instruments (Generalized Work Activities, Basic and Cross-Functional Skills, Work Styles) were administered to 1,007 job incumbents, from 369 organizations, performing 1 of 3 jobs (first-line supervisor, office clerk, computer programmer) in New Zealand, China, and Hong Kong. Data from these countries were compared with archival data collected from 370 incumbents holding similar jobs in the United States. Hypothesized country differences, derived from cross-cultural theory, received limited support. The magnitude of differences in mean item ratings between incumbents from the United States and the other 3 countries were generally small to moderate in size, and rank-orderings of the importance and level of work activities and job requirements were quite similar, suggesting that, for most applications, job information is likely to transport quite well across countries. A new kanamycin disulfate compound with chair structure has been successfully synthesized by volatilization method. The structure of the compound kanamycin disulfate was determined by single-crystal and powder X-ray crystallography. The decline of hygroscopicity made the kanamycin easier to save. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic choice for thrombi recanalization. However, this role of EPCs is confined by some detrimental factors. The aim of this study was to explore the role of the miR‐9‐5p in regulation of the proliferation, migration and angiogenesis of EPCs and the subsequent therapeutic role in thrombosis event. Wound healing, transwell assay, tube formation assay and in vivo angiogenesis assay were carried out to measure cell migration, invasion and angiogenic abilities, respectively. Western blot was performed to elucidate the relationship between miR‐9‐5p and TRPM7 in the autophagy pathway. It was found that miR‐9‐5p could promote migration, invasion and angiogenesis of EPCs by attenuating TRPM7 expression via activating PI3K/Akt/autophagy pathway. In conclusion, miR‐9‐5p, targets TRPM7 via the PI3K/Ak/autophagy pathway, thereby mediating cell proliferation, migration and angiogenesis in EPCs. We have previously reported that miR-9 promotes the homing, proliferation, and angiogenesis of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) by targeting transient receptor potential melastatin 7 via the AKT autophagy pathway. In this way, miR-9 promotes thrombolysis and recanalization following deep vein thrombosis (DVT). However, the influence of miR-9 on messenger RNA (mRNA) expression profiles of EPCs remains unclear. The current study comprises a comprehensive exploration of the mechanisms underlying the miR-9-regulated angiogenesis of EPCs and highlights potential treatment strategies for DVT. We performed RNA sequence analysis, which revealed that 4068 mRNAs were differentially expressed between EPCs overexpressing miR-9 and the negative control group, of which 1894 were upregulated and 2174 were downregulated. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses indicated that these mRNAs were mainly involved in regulating cell proliferation/migration processes/pathways and the autophagy pathway, both of which represent potential EPC-based treatment strategies for DVT. Reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction confirmed the changes in mRNA expression related to EPC angiogenesis, migration, and autophagy. We also demonstrate that miR-9 promotes EPC migration and angiogenesis by regulating FGF5 directly or indirectly. In summary, miR-9 enhances the expression of VEGFA, FGF5, FGF12, MMP2, MMP7, MMP10, MMP11, MMP24, and ATG7, which influences EPC migration, angiogenesis, and autophagy. We provide a comprehensive evaluation of the miR-9-regulated mRNA expression in EPCs and highlight potential targets for the development of new therapeutic interventions for DVT. MicroRNAs (MiRNAs, MiRs) represent a class of conserved small non‐coding RNAs that affect post‐transcriptional gene regulation and play a vital role in angiogenesis, proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion. They are essential for a wide range of physiological and pathological processes, especially for vascular diseases. However, data concerning miRNAs in endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) remain incomplete. We explored miRNAs that modulate angiogenesis in EPCs and thrombolysis, and analysed their underlying mechanisms using a DVT model, dual‐luciferase reporter assay, qRT‐PCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry analysis, CCK‐8 assay, angiogenesis assay, wound healing and Transwell assay. We found that miR‐205 enhanced the homing ability of EPCs to DVT sites and promoted thrombosis resolution and recanalization, which significantly reduced venous thrombus. Additionally, we demonstrated that miR‐205 overexpression significantly enhanced angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro, migration, invasion, F‐actin filaments and proliferation in EPCs, and inhibited cell apoptosis. Conversely, down‐regulation of miR‐205 played the opposite role in EPCs. Importantly, this study demonstrated that miR‐205 directly targeted PTEN to modulate the Akt/autophagy pathway and MMP2 expression, subsequently playing a key role in EPC function and DVT recanalization and resolution. Solid insulators applying functionally graded material (d-FGM) have spatially non-uniform dielectric properties. The d-FGM insulator is effective on insulation performance improvement without complicating the structure; however, the fabrication of such insulators remains a challenge. To investigate the feasibility of 3D printing technology on d-FGM, we designed and fabricated a conductivity non-uniform insulator and tested its surface flashover characteristics. First, a modified genetic algorithm is employed to design the conductivity distribution in the non-uniform insulator. The designed insulator is then fabricated using a 3D printing process named fused deposition modeling (FDM), in which we verified the applicability of 3D printing materials on electrical insulation. Finally, compared to the uniform insulator, the surface flashover voltages of non-uniform insulators were improved by 23% in SF6 and 20% in vacuum. Dielectrics with functionally graded material (d-FGM), which have spatially nonuniform dielectric properties, is effective to improve the insulation performance without complicating the structure. In the application of d-FGM, searching the optimal distribution of dielectric properties (permittivity or conductivity) is the most important goal, which however is difficult for conventional insulation design approaches. In this paper, the topology optimization technique is introduced to design a truncated cone insulator with permittivity FGM, which is to relieve local electric field (E-field) enhancement at the triple junctions. Firstly, a multi-objective topology optimization model is proposed using the variable density method. Secondly, the optimal values of several model parameters are determined based on the analysis of E-field uniformity. Finally, finite elements calculation demonstrates that the E-field uniformity is significantly improved for the topology-optimized permittivity FGM, and the E-field enhancement at triple junctions is strongly inhibited. It is thus expected that by applying the topology-optimized permittivity FGM insulator, the breakdown strength in gas or vacuum would be effectively improved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
