In this paper, the anti-aging properties of composites doped with nano and micro BiFeO3 and treated with different magnetic fields were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and broadband dielectric spectroscopy. SEM results showed that thermal aging had a significant effect on LDPE and composites, and the effect of magnetization treatment on the structure was significantly weakened. FTIR results showed that with the increase in aging time, the carbonyl content increased, the carbonyl content of nanocomposites increased less, and the carbonyl content of micron composites increased gently. DSC results showed that the addition of BiFeO3 acted as heterogeneous nucleation agent, and the orientation of magnetic field changed the arrangement of molecular chain and improved the crystallinity of the composite. Compared with the aged LDPE, the aged composite had lower dielectric constant and loss factor. 0.2 wt% nano and micro BiFeO3/LDPE composites had significant anti-aging ability, and the dielectric constant and loss factor of the composites could be further reduced by magnetic field treatment. All the test results showed that the doping of BiFeO3 and magnetic field treatment could change the internal structure of the composite, increase the compactness of the material, and make the composite have obvious thermal aging resistance. The effects of displacement damage due to 1 MeV electron radiation on 680 nm and 850 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) were experimentally investigated. The displacement damage dose was calculated using the MULASSIS tool, where it was found that radiation significantly affects the threshold current of VCSELs. The threshold current damage factor is 2.46 × 10−18 cm2/e for 680 nm VCSELs and 1.48 × 10−18 cm2/e for 850 nm VCSELs. In addition, the power intensity distribution and light output power degradation were characterized to evaluate the radiation hardness of VCSELs. An understanding of the performance degradation of VCSELs under electron exposure would be useful in optimizing their applications in hostile environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we reported the electrical and spectral properties of 1 MeV electron and 3 MeV proton irradiated In0.53Ga0.47As single junction solar cell, which is used as the fourth subcell of wafer bonded GaInP/GaAs//InGaAsP/InGaAs four-junction full spectra solar cell. The equivalent displacement damage dose model was applied to study the radiation effects of solar cell. The results show that the electrical parameters of the solar cell degrade seriously with the increase of irradiation fluences, the reduction of minority carrier life-time and changes of series and shunt resistance caused by irradiation-induced displacement damage are the main reason for the degradation of cell performance. Degradation of spectral response mainly occurred in the long wavelength region of solar cell due to the bigger displacement damage in the base layer of solar cell. Using melt mixing, we produced a ceramic/polymer composite with a matrix of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and a filler of 5 vol.% Ni-deposited CaCu3Ti4O12 core-shell ceramic particles (CCTO@Ni), and studied its prominent dielectric characteristics for the first. Its phase composition and morphology were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. After treating the composite films with various durations of a magnetic field treatment, we compared their dielectric properties. We found that the CCTO@Ni ceramic had a typical urchin-like core-shell structure, and that different durations of the magnetic field treatment produced different distributions of ceramic particles in the PVDF matrix. The dielectric permittivity of the untreated CCTO@Ni/PVDF composite was 20% higher than that of neat PVDF, and it had a low loss tangent. However, only the composite treated for 30 min in the magnetic field had an ultra-high dielectric permittivity of 1.41 × 104 at 10 Hz, three orders of magnitude higher than the untreated composite, which declined dramatically with increasing frequency, accompanied by an insulating-conducting phase transition and an increase in loss tangent. Our results demonstrate that changes in the dielectric properties of PVDF composites with magnetic field treatment are closely related to the percolation effect and interfacial polarization. We report a novel low-density polyethylene (LDPE) composite filled with nickelcoated CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramic (denoted as CCTO@Ni), prepared by a melt mixing technique, and its prominent dielectric characteristics. The effects of magnetic field treatment on the dielectric properties of CCTO@Ni/LDPE composite films with a low filler concentration of 10 vol.% were investigated. Our results show that the dielectric permittivity, loss tangent, and conductivity of the LDPE composite films initially improved and then decreased with increasing treatment time under the applied magnetic field. Magnetic field treatment for 60 min led to an ultrahigh dielectric permittivity value of 1.57 × 104, four orders of magnitude higher than that of the pure LDPE material. Our results indicate that the magnetic treatment may have induced a percolation effect and enhanced the interfacial polarization of the CCTO@Ni/LDPE composite, resulting in the observed changes in its dielectric properties. The effects of nanoparticles with different shapes on the interface bond energy in a polyimide/KTa0·5Nb0·5O3 composite were investigated using molecular dynamic simulations. The simulation results showed that the bond energy of sphere particles were 20-85 kcal mol−1, whereas the bond energies of three shape nanoparticles surface atoms (cube, cylinder and cone) were 5-30 kcal mol−1. This indicated that Van der Waals force and hydrogen bonds existed between the matrix and the fillers. The bond strengths of the small nanoparticles were more than the larger nanoparticles due to the size effect. At the same doping volume fraction, the bond energy of the sphere nanoclusters was significantly larger than the ones of other shaped nanoparticles. The introduction of sphere nanoparticles and the small-sized nanoparticles has the potential to be an effective way to improve the properties of the polyimide/KTa0·5Nb0·5O3 composites. Five gynogenetic progeny groups of silver crucian carp Carassius auratus gibelio were produced and sex ratios (males:total progeny) of each of the progeny groups were analysed. About 110 males and 366 females were genotyped at 15 microsatellite loci for comparison with their parents to (1) verify the gynogenesis status of Fangzheng C. auratus gibelio, (2) detect the incorporation of paternal genetic material into the offspring and (3) study the possible association of genetic exchange at microsatellite loci with the existence of sex. The sex ratios in progenies of five groups were highly variable, but all had significant female bias. The sex ratio ranged from 0 to 0·37. Significant differences in the sex ratio within and between groups were also found. Microsatellite genotyping at 15 loci showed that 100 and 97% of the progeny shared the same genotype with the mother in four groups and in one group, respectively, confirming that gynogenesis is the general mechanism of reproduction in C. auratus gibelio. However, 0·63% of all offspring did show incorporation of paternal genetic material. No single loci tested were associated with the occurrence of male progeny, indicating unknown genetic mechanisms for sex determination in C. auratus gibelio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Taking advantage of the relatively low temperature crystallization and high orientation of thin films of Pb0.8La0.1Ca0.1Ti0.975O3 (PLCT), growth of a highly (100)-oriented PLCT/Pb(Nb0.01Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 (PNZT) multilayer film on a Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate is achieved at a temperature as low as 450 °C. The interfacial diffusion in the multilayer film is decreased by the low temperature of crystallization. A relatively low dielectric constant and high pyrocoefficient are simultaneously achieved in the highly (100)-oriented PLCT/PNZT multilayer film. The high figure-of-merit obtained for this multilayer film make it a good candidate for application in pyroelectric thin-film devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aim: The diagnosis of melanoma is still a clinical challenge, many studies reported that micropthalmia transcription factor (MITF) plays a role in diagnosing melanoma, but with considerable inconsistent results. The present work aimed to summarize the overall performance of MITF in diagnosing melanoma., Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in Pubmed and Embase for studies regarding the usefulness of MITF to diagnose melanoma. Data were retrieved and pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, and diagnostic odds ratio were determined. The post-test probability was performed to evaluate clinical usefulness. A summary receiver operator characteristic curve and the area under the curve were used to summarize the overall diagnostic accuracy., Results: Nine studies with 1,299 subjects (651 melanomas and 648 non-melanomas) were included for present meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of MITF for diagnosing melanoma were 0.84 (95% CI: 0.81-0.87) and 0.96 (95% CI: 0.95-0.98), respectively. The positive likelihood ratio was 17.73 (95% CI: 10.85-28.99), negative likelihood ratio was 0.18 (95% CI: 0.10-0.32) and diagnostic odds ratio was 221.56 (95% CI: 66.16-741.96). In a setting of 20% prevalence of melanoma, the probability of melanoma would be 92% if the MITF test was positive, and the probability of melanoma would be 1% if it was negative. The area under the summary receiver operator characteristic curve was 0.99., Conclusions: MITF may play a valuable role in the diagnosis of melanoma with a high specificity. Nevertheless, the results of MITF should be interpreted with the combination of other test results and clinical findings.

Objectives: The diagnosis of lung cancer remains a clinical challenge. Many studies have assessed the diagnostic potential of anti-p53 antibody in lung cancer patients but with controversial results. This study aims to summarize the overall diagnostic performance of anti-p53 antibody in lung cancer., Materials and Methods: Based on a comprehensive search of the Pubmed and Embase, we identified outcome data from all articles estimating diagnostic accuracy of anti-p53 antibody for lung cancer. A summary estimation for sensitivity, specificity, and other diagnostic indexes were pooled using a bivariate model. The overall measure of accuracy was calculated using summary receiver operating characteristic curve and the area under curve (AUC) was calculated., Results: According to our inclusion criteria, 16 studies with 4414 subjects (2249 lung cancers, 2165 controls) were included. The summary estimates were: sensitivity 0.20 (95% CI 0.15-0.27), specificity 0.97 (95% CI 0.95-0.98), positive likelihood ratio 6.64 (95% CI 4.34-10.17), negative likelihood ratio 0.83 (95% CI 0.77-0.89), diagnostic odds ratio 8.04 (95% CI 5.05-12.79), the AUC was 0.84. Subgroup analysis suggested that anti-p53 antibody had a better diagnostic performance for small cell lung cancer than non-small cell lung cancer., Conclusions: anti-p53 antibody can be an assistant marker in diagnosing lung cancer, but the low sensitivity limits its use as a screening tool for lung cancer. Further studies should be performed to confirm our findings.
