The world around us has become increasingly digital in recent years, from the quick adoption of mobile phones to the emergence of the Internet and, more recently, social media and big data. With profound effects on all productive sectors, the “digital revolution,” considered as the widespread use of digital technology, has fundamentally changed the financial sector. This is presently in the midst of a profound and unheard-of change known as FinTech, which is the direct outcome of the application of technology to finance. Among other things, blockchain has recently gained popularity in the financial services industry. Therefore, a greater comprehension of how this novel technology could affect the financial industry is necessary. In this paper, we explore how blockchain may impact on financial intermediaries and banks.

Sex-related disparities have been recognized in incidence, pathological findings, pathophysiological mechanisms, and diagnostic pathways of non-rheumatic mitral regurgitation. Furthermore, access to treatments and outcomes for surgical and interventional therapies among women and men appears to be different. Despite this, current European and US guidelines have identified common diagnostic and therapeutic pathways that do not consider patient sex in decision-making. The aim of this review is to summarize the current evidence on sex-related differences in non-rheumatic mitral regurgitation, particularly regarding incidence, imaging modalities, surgical-derived evidence, and outcomes of transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, with the goal of informing clinicians about sex-specific challenges to consider when making treatment decisions for patients with mitral regurgitation.

The protein C is a small viral protein encoded in an overlapping frame of the P gene in the subfamily Orthoparamyxovirinae. This protein, expressed by alternative translation initiation, is a virulence factor that regulates viral transcription, replication, and production of defective interfering RNA, interferes with the host-cell innate immunity systems and supports the assembly of viral particles and budding. We expressed and purified full-length and an N-terminally truncated C protein from Tupaia paramyxovirus (TupV) C protein (genus Narmovirus). We solved the crystal structure of the C-terminal part of TupV C protein at a resolution of 2.4 Å and found that it is structurally similar to Sendai virus C protein, suggesting that despite undetectable sequence conservation, these proteins are homologous. We characterized both truncated and full-length proteins by SEC-MALLS and SEC-SAXS and described their solution structures by ensemble models. We established a mini-replicon assay for the related Nipah virus (NiV) and showed that TupV C inhibited the expression of NiV minigenome in a concentration-dependent manner as efficiently as the NiV C protein. A previous study found that the Orthoparamyxovirinae C proteins form two clusters without detectable sequence similarity, raising the question of whether they were homologous or instead had originated independently. Since TupV C and SeV C are representatives of these two clusters, our discovery that they have a similar structure indicates that all Orthoparamyxovirine C proteins are homologous. Our results also imply that, strikingly, a STAT1-binding site is encoded by exactly the same RNA region of the P/C gene across Paramyxovirinae, but in different reading frames (P or C), depending on which cluster they belong to.

Abstract Management of upper retropharyngeal abscesses in children is challenging. In surgical cases, ultrasound‐assisted intra‐operative procedures may be helpful to reach peculiar locations, thus reducing surgical morbidity and complications rate.

Cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) and subtomogram averaging (STA) are increasingly used for macromolecular structure determination in situ. Here, we introduce a set of computational tools and resources designed to enable flexible approaches to STA through increased automation and simplified metadata handling. We create a bidirectional interface between the Dynamo software package and the Warp-Relion-M pipeline, providing a framework for ab initio and geometrical approaches to multiparticle refinement in M. We illustrate the power of working within this framework by applying it to EMPIAR-10164, a publicly available dataset containing immature HIV-1 virus-like particles (VLPs), and a challenging in situ dataset containing chemosensory arrays in bacterial minicells. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to obtaining a 3.4-Å reconstruction from EMPIAR-10164.
