Taking the insights from diagrammatology – rooting in German media and culture studies (Medienkulturwissenschaft) and semiology – as background, this essay seeks to answer the question of how the history of the visual representation of temporal processes can be captured, and how the emergence of the statistical time series graph has influenced our ideas about time, history, and stories. To this end, I will provide a cultural-historical overview that, beyond shedding light on the interrelationships between different discourses (e. g., economy, statistics, science, literature), can contribute to a critical examination of perhaps the most widespread type of diagram used today. This overview can be understood more as a proposal for discussion, aimed at encouraging methodological and historical reflections on digital humanities practices, rather than as a presentation of a closed topic.

Die dramatischen Werke des deutschen Dramatikers, Schriftstellers und Librettisten August von Kotzebue (1761–1819) gehörten in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts nicht nur zum festen Repertoire des Ständischen Theaters in Laibach (Ljubljana), sondern Kotzebue gehörte in den 1830er-Jahren, wie aus den Spielplänen ersichtlich, zu den meistgespielten Dramatikern auf der Laibacher Bühne. Es wurden sowohl seine ernsteren Schauspiele als auch Werke komischen Inhalts aufgeführt. Vor allem bei den Letzteren ist eine rege Vielfalt an komischen dramatischen Formen (z. B. Lustspiel, Schwank, Posse) zu verzeichnen, was bei den gespielten Werken anderer Autoren und Autorinnen zu dieser Zeit nicht der Fall war. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden in Hinblick auf die in Laibach aufgeführten Stücke von Kotzebue die verschiedenen komischen dramatischen Formen dargestellt und erörtert.

The study examines for the first time Ernst Troeltsch's discussion of Johann Salomo Semler and Gotthold Ephraim Lessing in the reviews and criticisms and thus makes a contribution to the historicization of his Enlightenment interpretation and his reflective historicism. The analyzed reviews show Troeltsch as an intimate connoisseur of the 18th century history of theology, who did not let his differentiated concept of modernity become one-sided in contemporary diagnostic interest, but developed it in a critical examination of cultural-historical Enlightenment research. The analysis shows in an exemplary way how Troeltsch critically and in his own language makes historical sources and literary studies his own, in order to locate himself in the analyzed cultural-historical overall picture with this appropriation. This essay explores the relationship between Buber's philosophy of history and his political theory, known also as theopolitics. Buber's first book on theopolitics, Kingship of God (1932), implemented the principle of dialogue as a critique of leadership. Dialogue reconciles the paradox of authoritarian theocracy and absolute freedom of anarchy: it unites the interhuman relationship (religious anarchy) and the divine-human relationship (direct theocracy). Without dialogue, anarchy would become chaotic and theocracy would actually mean the tyranny of the priests (hierocracy). But Buber's theopolitics also revealed a particular understanding of history. As this essay demonstrates, Buber held a notion of dialogical history (contrary to Hegelian dialectic history), which ultimately functioned as a critique of the history of victory and power. Dialogical history criticizes not only secular but also any kind of religious or sacred history claiming to authorize human power by divine justification. Dialogical history, therefore, should be seen as "counter-history," not only because it is based on a rehabilitation of myth (Hasidic tales and biblical myths) but also because it is engaged in an alternate philosophy of history, whose fulfillment is vouchsafed neither by the necessary unfolding of a spirit, nor by "great" historical deeds, but by everyday human agency and responsibility alone. This article provides information about the way of life of arctic hunter-gatherers which has long inspired Palaeolithic archaeology in many different ways. The inland of West Greenland is a cultural landscape created during centuries by Thule people and Greenlanders hunting caribou in summer. An important type of site of the cultural landscape is the long caribou hunting drive with many stone-built inussuit and shooting blinds. The example presented in this article is situated in the center of the local caribou habitat, in a central passage for migrating deer. The drive lane may have been used during ambush hunting or communal driving of the deer to concealed hunters or hunters in kayaks. The hunting drive is near a large inland summer camp and many smaller sites, all indicating intensive caribou hunting in the last 700 years. A brief report on the state of research on the immigration and social structure of the early Thule culture shows that immediately after arriving these maritime hunters regularily travelled inland to hunt caribou, rapidly creating a cultural landscape. Ziel dieser Einleitung ist, einen allgemeinen Forschungsüberblick über Rugby anzubieten, um ein bis dato wenig bearbeitetes Forschungsfeld in der (deutschen) romanistischen Kulturwissenschaft darzustellen. Der Fokus soll dabei auf die aktuellen Entwicklungen im Rugby in der Romania, dessen Professionalisierungsprozess, kulturelle Bedeutung und die dadurch entstehenden Herausforderungen gelenkt werden. Entgegen der Auffassung, dass Rugby fast ausschließlich britischer Prägung ist, widmet sich die Ausgabe jenem Rugby, der in den Ländern romanischer Sprache und Kultur gespielt wird. Ausgehend von der lebendigen Rugbykultur Frankreichs wird der Überblick von der Frage nach einer spezifischen Kultur oder gar Identität des romanischen Rugby geleitet sein. Denn über die starke und sehr lebendige französische Rugbykultur hinaus hat der Sport auch eine gewisse kulturelle Bedeutung in anderen Ländern der Romania angenommen. Zumal aus historischer Perspektive in der Tat die Nationalmannschaften, die für die britischen und die Südsee-Mannschaften eine (mehr oder weniger starke) Konkurrenz darstell(t)en, einen gemeinsamen Nenner haben: Diese Mannschaften stammen alle aus der Romania.

Seit 1997 wird von der UB Erfurt die geisteswissenschaftliche Sammlung Teufel tranchenweise übernommen. Der Sammelband bringt verschiedene Teilbereiche des durch die Sammlung abgedeckten Netzwerks an kulturhistorischen Themen mit dem Mittelpunkt Böhmen und Mähren zur Sprache.

Die Erforschung der nach 1507 in Rom tätigen, von der Kurie zugelassenen, auswärtigen öf- fentlichen Notare und ihrer Klienten aus ganz Europa ist ein lohnendes Unterfangen und wird maßgeblich möglich durch die Untersuchung der vom Kollegium der Archivschreiber ange- fertigten Kopien der beglaubigten Rechtsgeschäfte. Diese Rechtsgeschäfte bieten detailreiche Einblicke in sozial-gesellschaftliche und ökonomische Entwicklungen, in die Attraktivität von Kurie und Stadt für Rombesucher in einer Zeit der Umwälzungen mit dem Sacco di Roma und der Reformation. Die personellen Netzwerke der Rombesucher zeigen eine Bipolarität zwischen der Wahrung der eigenen Identität und der gewollten Integration in die römische Gesellschaft.

Fußball is the most popular sport in Germany. The reasons for this extraordinary status and success of association football in Germany are complex. In this article, answers are searched for in the context of the historical development of German society. After a review of the recent development of German football and football historiography, the paper focuses on two issues relating to the origins of German football. These are the transformation of football in the then dominant body culture of gymnastics, and secondly its impact on the German process of nation-building. Both processes are not only linked, but also related to the concept of manliness in German sport and society. Der Begriff der Medienkunst wird mit fortschreitender Medialisierung der Welt immer problematischer. Die Digitalisierung hat alle künstlerischen Medien (ob technische oder nicht) als Medien sichtbar gemacht und deren Verhältnis untereinander grundlegend verändert. Rosalind Krauss bezeichnet dieses neue Verhältnis als "post-medium condition" (Krauss 2000). Wenn wir also von der Medienkunst etwas über Medien lernen wollen, was für eine Medienpädagogik nutzbar ist, müssen wir die Entgrenzung des Medialen berücksichtigen. Diese macht die Abgrenzung von Medienkunst von anderen Künsten sehr schwierig, da eine solche künstlerische Praxis weder an formalen, inhaltlichen oder materiellen Eigenschaften festgemacht werden kann. Ich schlage in diesem Text vor, die Medienkunst in ihren methodischen Strategien zu betrachten. Ihre Referenzen in der Kunstgeschichte sind dabei die Konzeptkunst und die Institutionskritik, als kulturgeschichtlichen Hintergrund komme ich auf die Kybernetik zurück. Im vorliegenden Essay möchte ich versuchen, Anschlussmöglichkeiten einer kritischen Medienpädagogik an die aus der Kybernetik entstandene gegenwärtige Netzwerkkultur zu formulieren. Netzwerkkultur bezeichnet dabei nicht die spezifischen Technologien des Internets wie das Social Web, sondern die aus dem Geiste der Kybernetik entstandenen Formen vernetzter Handlungsmöglichkeiten, zu denen unter anderen auch das Social Web gehören.

A research project financed by the Austrian Science Fund is dedicated to the history of the private library of Emperor Franz I which has been conserved so far within its historical locations as part of the Austrian National Library. Abstract: In diesem Beitrag werden die bislang in der archäologischen Forschung gängigen Thesen über die Art der Beziehungen zwischen Kreta und den kykladischen Inseln anhand archäologischer Funde vorgestellt und ihre Bedeutung hinsichtlich der kulturhistorischen Entwicklung des ägäischen Raumes in der SM IA Epoche beleuchtet. Eine Annäherung an die Problematik der Beziehungen zwischen Kreta und den Kykladen und im Besonderen zu Akrotiri auf Thera gelingt durch die Darstellung unterschiedlicher Forschungsbereiche der ägäischen Archäologie sowie deren Verortung bezüglich der Fragestellung. Aktuelle Fundkontexte ägäischer Siedlungen erlauben dabei die Feststellung eines gemeinsamen Wirtschaftsraumes in der Ägäis während SM IA. Ferner werden für die in der Ägäis heimische Bevölkerung vergleichbare Verhaltensweisen beschrieben sowie unterschiedliche Intensitäten bei Trans- und Interaktionen im ägäischen Raum definiert. Unter Annahme einer hohen Mobilität der Bevölkerung werden die Charakteristika des minoischen Einflusses deutlicher herausgearbeitet. Résumé: Sur la base d'importantes trouvailles, cette contribution présente et examine les thèses connues jusqu'ici dans le monde de l'archéologie sur le type de contacts qu'ont eu entre eux la Crète et les Cyclades. Les objets livrent de précieuses informations sur l'évolution historico-culturelle du MR I A en Égée. D'autres acquis, qui permettent de mieux saisir la problématique des contacts entre la Crète et les Cyclades, et particulièrement avec Akrotiri sur l'île de Thera, sont abordés dans le domaine correspondant de la recherche archéologique en Égée. L'observation d'un espace économique commun au MR I A en Égée, des modes de comportement similaires parmi les habitants de la mer Égée et une intensité variable des transactions et interactions dans l'espace égéen sont des aspects révélateurs dans le contexte archéologique actuel des habitats égéens. Ces éléments permettent d'émettre des hypothèses intéressantes. L'étude de l'éventualité d'une mobilité intensive pour une partie de la population peut préciser les caractéristiques de l'influence minoenne. Abstract: In this article the previously common theses in the archaeological research on the nature of the relations between Crete and the cycladic islands are presented through the evidence of archaeological finds. Their significance in relation to the cultural and historical development in the aegean area in the LM IA time is being illuminated. An approach to the problematic of the relations between Crete and Cyclades and more specifically Akrotiri on Thera succeeds by presenting different research areas of the aegean archaeology as well as by their positioning with respect to the relevant questions. Current archaeological contexts in the aegean settlements allow thereby the observation of a common economical space in the Aegean during LM IA. Further similar population's modes of behavior in the Aegean are described and the transactions and interactions of varying intensity within the Aegean are defined. Assuming a high mobility among the population the characteristica of the minoan influence are precised more clearly. Περίληψη:: Βασιζόμενο πάνω σε σημαντικά ευρήματα, αυτό το άρθρο παρουσιάζει και εξετάζει γνωστές μέχρι σήμερα θέσεις στην αρχαιολογική έρευνα σχετικές με τις σχέσεις μεταξύ Κρήτης και Κυκλάδων. Τα ευρήματα μεταφέρουν πολύτιμες πληροφορίες σχετικές με την ιστορικοπολιτιστική εξέλιξη στην ΥΜ Ι Α εποχή στο Αγαίο. Νέες υποθέσεις, οι οποίες επιτρέπουν την καλύτερη κατανόηση του προβλήματος των επαφών μεταξύ Κρήτης και Κυκλάδων, και ιδιαίτερα με το Ακρωτήρι στη Θήρα, συζητούνται εντός του γνωστικού πεδίου το οποίο ανταποκρίνεται με την αρχαιολογική έρευνα στο Αιγαίο. Η διαπίστωση ενός κοινού οικονομικού χώρου στην ΥΜ Ι Α εποχή στο Αιγαίο, οι συγκρίσημοι τρόποι συμπεριφοράς του πληθυσμού του Αιγαίου και ποικίλης συχνότητας συναλλαγές και αλληλεπιδράσεις μέσα στον αιγαιακό χώρο είναι γνωρίσματα τα οποία μπορούν να αποκαλυφθούν μέσα από την εικόνα του συνόλου πρόσφατων αρχαιολογικών ευρημάτων στον αιγαιακό χώρο. Αυτά τα στοιχεία επιτρέπουν τη διαμόρφωση ενδιαφερόντων επιχειρημάτων. Der Maikäfer gehört in Deutschland zu den populärsten Tieren in der Bevölkerung aber gleichzeitig auch zu gefürchteten Schädlingen in der Land- und Forstwirtschaft. In dieser Übersicht wird neben der Kulturgeschichte auch die Geschichte der Bekämpfungsmaßnahmen dargestellt. Der Maikäfer ist in der Lied- und Volkskunst ver­ewigt, er kommt in der deutschen Dichtung und Literatur vor, wurde als Nahrungsmittel genutzt und als Futter- sowie Düngemittel eingesetzt. Auch Vorbild für ein Auto war er, den späteren VW Käfer. Die große Schäden ver­ursachenden Massenvermehrungen von Feld- und Waldmaikäfer (Melolontha melolontha bzw. M. hippocastani) sind seit Jahrhunderten in Deutschland bekannt und haben zu den verschiedensten Abwehr- und Kontrollmaßnahmen geführt. Diese umfassten Kulturmaßnahmen zur Vermeidung der Eiablage durch die weiblichen Käfer, mechanische und chemische Verfahren zur Engerlingsbekämpfung sowie, neben dem Kirchenbann im Mittelalter, verschiedene Maßnahmen gegen die Maikäfer, wie Sammelaktionen sowie chemische, biotechnische und biologische Verfahren. Aus heutiger Sicht sind einige dieser Maßnahmen in abgewandelter Form immer noch sinnvoll.

In 1905, caught in the difficulties he encountered with some of his patients’ biographies, Freud chose to follow Iwan Bloch's approach of mental disorders. He consequently adopted an anthropological point of view. He then consulted what he called ‘ Kulturgeschichte’ and ‘ Kulturhistoriker’ to propose his theory of neuroses and repression. Who were these ‘culture historians’? What ideas and concepts did they convey? Which role was granted them exactly in psychiatric writings? I will try to answer these questions in order to uncover their precise theoretical influence on Freud's writings during the first decade of the twentieth century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
