It is demonstrated that a double silicon detector operating in the coincidence mode [1,2] can be used in radiationmonitoring instruments for registering β-radiation at high γ-background conditions, e.g., in Chernobyl. Показана возможность применения сдвоенного кремниевого детектора в режиме совпадений в дозиметрических средствах измерительной техники с целью регистрации β-излучения в условиях высокого γ-фона. Показана можливість застосування здвоєного кремнієвого детектора в режимі співпадання в дозиметричних засобах вимірювальної техніки з метою реєстрації β-випромінювання в умовах високого γ-фону.

The paper reports the results from studies into the effect of temperature on the performance characteristics of planar silicon detectors designed and manufactured at the NSC KIPT. A variety of techniques are demonstrated for measuring the temperature effect on various static and spectral characteristics of single-channel planar detectors. The relationship between the static characteristics of detectors and their long-term stability and lifetime is considered. Приведены результаты исследования воздействия температуры на характеристики планарных кремниевых детекторов, спроектированных и изготовленных в ННЦ ХФТИ. Показан ряд методик, позволяющих проводить измерения влияния температуры на различные статические и спектральные характеристики одноканальных планарных детекторов. Рассматривается связь статических характеристик детекторов с долговременной стабильностью и временем жизни детекторов. Приведені результати досліджень впливу температури на характеристики пласких кремнієвих детекторів, спроектованих та виготовлених у ННЦ ХФТІ. Продемонстровано ряд методик, які дозволяють проводити вимірювання впливу температури на різні статичні та спектральні характеристики одноканальних пласких детекторів. Розглянуто зв’язок статичних характеристик детекторів з довгостроковою стабільністю та часом життя детекторів.

Brief survey of recent achievements in investigations of nuclear beta decays is given with some emphasis on superallowed 0⁺→ 0⁺ Fermi transitions between T=1 nuclear states. Progress in construction of a detecting system for registration of electrons and positrons in studies of beta transitions is discussed. The spectra of electrons emitted in decay of ⁹⁰Sr and ⁹⁰Y nuclides are measured with the help of double-sided silicon detector. The spectra obtained are compared with results of computer simulation. У доповіді коротко обговорюються досягнення в недавніх дослідженнях бета-розпадів атомних ядер. Основна увага приділяється понаддозволеним 0⁺→ 0⁺ переходам Фермі між ядерними станами з ізотопічим спіном, що дорівнює одиниці. Виконано виміри спектрів електронів, що випускаються в розпадах ядер ⁹⁰SR та ⁹⁰Y, за допомогою розроблювального двостороннього кремнієвого детектора. Отримані спектри порівнюються з результатами комп'ютерного моделювання. В докладе кратко обсуждаются достижения в недавних исследованиях бета-распадов атомных ядер. Основное внимание уделяется сверхразрешенным 0⁺→ 0⁺ переходам Ферми между ядерными состояниями с изоспином Т=1. Выполнены измерения спектра электронов, испускаемых в распадах ядер стронция-90 и иттрия-90, с помощью разрабатываемого двухстороннего кремниевого детектора. Полученные спектры сравниваются с результатами компьютерного моделирования.

- Abstract
ALICE is a general-purpose heavy-ion experiment designed to study the physics of strongly interacting matter and the quark-gluon plasma in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC. It currently includes more than 900 physicists and senior engineers, from both nuclear and high-energy physics, from about 80 institutions in 28 countries. The experimentwas approved in February 1997. The detailed design of the different detector systems has been laid down in a number of Technical Design Reports issued between mid-1998 and the end of 2001 and construction has started for most detectors. Since the last comprehensive information on detector and physics performance was published in the ALICE Technical Proposal in 1996, the detector as well as simulation, reconstruction and analysis software have undergone significant development. The Physics Performance Report (PPR) will give an updated and comprehensive summary of the current status and performance of the various ALICE subsystems, including updates to the Technical Design Reports, where appropriate, as well as a description of systems which have not been published in a Technical Design Report. The PPR will be published in two volumes. The currentVolume I contains: 1. a short theoretical overview and an extensive reference list concerning the physics topics of interest to ALICE, 2. relevant experimental conditions at the LHC, 3. a short summary and update of the subsystem designs, and 4. a description of the offline framework and Monte Carlo generators. Volume II, which will be published separately, will contain detailed simulations of combined detector performance, event reconstruction, and analysis of a representative sample of relevant physics observables from global event characteristics to hard processes. © 2004 IOP Publishing Ltd.

New experimental quantitative data on the efficiency of photonuclear transmutation doping of n-type detector silicon were obtained. The express technique for measurement of the efficiency of producing the acceptor minority (Al) in high resistant detector silicon was developed. The transmutation doping is studied for increase of the detector silicon resistivity from about 1 to 5 kOhm x cm and for correction of the resistivity distribution over the silicon bulk. The studies of photonuclear doping were performed applying the beams of gamma-bremsstrahlung with Egmax ~ 25 MeV. Using the doping efficiency data, the cost of detector silicon doping was calculated for case of the bremsstrahlung of 25 MeV energy electrons.

- Abstract
Readout electronics based on the 128-channel chip “Viking” (IDE AS inc., Norway) is considered. The chip “Viking” integrates 128 low noise charge-sensitive preamplifiers with tunable CR-(RC)² shapers, analog memory and multiplexed readout to one output. All modules of readout electronics were designed and produced in KIPT taking into account the published recommendations of IDE AS inc.

Electrodynamics of high energies in matter and strong fields - Abstract
The results of experimental investigations of the 1.2 GeV electron transmission dynamics in a thin single crystal of Si are discussed. The interpretation of the electron scattering orientation dependencies measured under different scattering angles is carried out. The existence of scattering direction, where one can observe the scattering intensity independence on the crystallographic plane orientation is shown. Besides the existence of crystallographic axis orientation, where one can observe the region of uniform angle distribution of scattering intensity, is shown.

Silicon pad detectors are working at room temperatures, what is very convenient for creation of simple tracking system and multiplicity detectors. Silicon pad detectors are studied to create a compact detecting systems for active beam collimation and for gamma-radiation multiplicity measurements. The registration efficiency and spectral distributions of gamma-radiation and electrons were studied using isotope radiation sources. The silicon pad detectors were designed at NSC "KIPT".

The characteristics and radiation tolerance of a double-sided microstrip detector (DSMD) were studied, and the suitability of the detector to the ALICE experiment requirements was analyzed. The sensitive area of the silicon microstrip detector measures 40x75 mm. The DSMD consists of 750 registering strips on each side. The strip pitch is 100 mm and the strip length is 40 mm. Strips of the p+-side were oriented parallel to the side edge, the n+-strips were placed at 30 mrad stereo angle with respect to p+-strips and were separated by a common p+-stop structure. Both p+- and n+-strips are biased by integrated polysilicon resistors with a resistance no less than 10 MOhm. The data readout is realized with use of 120 pF coupling capacitors. The radiation tolerance of the microstrip detector was studied using 20 MeV electrons. The leakage current increases from 2 up to 5 nA per one strip and the interstrip resistance decreases from 43 down to 30 GOhm after 10 krad irradiation dose. The other DSMD features remain unchanged under irradiation. To evaluate the detector efficiency, the yield of good coupling capacitors and biasing resistors, as well as strip leakage currents, interstrip resistance and interstrip capacitance were studied. Based on the data obtained, the number of defective strips is found not to exceed 3%; this provides the required detector efficiency of about 97%.
