Rusty grain beetle Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Laemophloeidae) is one of the most important pests of stored grains. It is known that long term use of phosphine against the pests causes to resistance development in the pests. In this study, 16 C. ferrugineus populations from grain warehouses of 11 provinces were collected. The resistance to phosphine of the populations was determined by modifying the FAO method to obtain LC50 values. Resistance ratios were calculated by comparing the LC50 values of the populations to the LC50 value of the sensitive population. The C. ferrugineus population obtained from İzmir province died at 36 ppm discriminating dose and LC50 value was calculated as 16.82 ppm/20 hrs. This population was considered susceptible and used in LC50 comparisons to determine the resistance ratios. The LC50 was not calculated for the six populations which died at the discriminating dose. In the 10 populations which LC50 were calculated, resistance ratios were found between 3.0 and 392.6 times. Some parasitic hymenopterans were reared from their host insects found on the stems and branches of Heracleum platytaenium Boiss., which contains furanocoumarins that are insect repellents and suppress growth in some species. Plant materials with insects were collected from the vicinity of Kızılcahamam in Ankara Province in July-September 2008. The parasitoids (Hymenoptera) and their hosts were Didyctium brunnea (Belizin) (Eucolidae) from puparia of Lasiambia albidipennis (Strobl) (Diptera: Chloropidae), Pronotalia carlinarum (Szelenyi & Erdos) (Eulophidae) and Homoporus febriculosus (Girault) (Pteromalidae) from puparia of Melanagromyza heracleana Zlobin (Diptera: Agromyzidae), and Baryscapus crassicornis (Erdos) (Eulophidae) from larvae, pupae, and adults of Lixus nordmanni Hochhuth (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). The hole(s) or cutting types done by the parasitoids while leaving their hosts were described. Development time from egg to adult (12 days and 19-20 days) and parasitization duration (60 min and 20-30 min) were also determined for P. carlinarum and B. crassicornis, respectively, and average parasitization rates in nature and the mating behaviors of these 2 parasitoids were defined. To our knowledge, the insects are new hosts for all parasitoids and the first parasitoid records for the flies. Chloropidae is a new record host family for D. brunnea after Phoridae. The Sunn pest Eurygaster integriceps Puton is the most harmful pest of cereals in Turkey and the surrounding countries. Chemical control has been employed against the nymph stages of the pest. The efficacy of six products [acetamiprid (SL, soluble concentrate), chlorpyrifosethyl (EC, emulsifiable concentrate), lambda-cyhalothrin (CS, capsule suspension), monocrotophos (SC, suspension concentrate), thiacloprid (SC) and zeta-cypermethrin (EC)] was tested on overwintered adults of E. integriceps, with applications to wheat at the shooting stage. In a study conducted at Siverek, Şanlıurfa in the southeastern Anatolia Region, the most effective insecticide was found to be lambda-cyhalothrin. It gave very promising results in controlling the pest and reduced subsequent egg laying and the appearance of nymphs in the trial area. The egg batches with parasitoids of the sunn pest Eurygaster sp. (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae) were collected to determine the egg parasitoid Trissolcus species (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) of the pest from cereal areas in Turkey. In total, eight Trissolcus species, namely T. simoni Mayr, T. vassilievi Mayr, T. semistriatus Nees, T. grandis Thompson, T. manteroi Kieffer, T. pseudoturesis Rjachovsky, T. rufiventris Mayr and T. djadetshko Rjachovsky, are recognized. T. djadetshko Rjachovsky and T. manteroi Kieffer are new species for the Turkish fauna. The species are described and an identification key is provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The perennial monocarpic endemic species Heracleum platytaenium Boiss. [Apiaceae (=Umbelliferae)] was collected with associated insects in Kizilcahamam (Ankara) between June and August in 2006-2007. Nine insects, namely Hemipterous Graphosoma lineatum (L.), G. semipunctatum (Fabricius) and Anoraphis subterranea (Walker), Coleopterous Lixus nordmanni Hochhuht, Lepidopterous Aethes kasyi Razowski, Epinotia thapsiana (Zeller) and Epermenia chaerophyllella (Goeze), Dipterous Melanagromyza heracleana Zlobin, and Lasiambia albidipennis (Strobl.) (Diptera) were determined on H. platytaenium. Among them, M. heracleana (Agromyzidae) is recorded from Turkey for the first time, and Lasiambia albidipennis (Chloropidae) is new as genus and species for the Turkish fauna. Additionally, H. platytaenium is recognized as new host for 5 species: A. subterranea, A. kasyi, E. thapsiana, E. chaerophyllella, and M. heracleana. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The male genitalia of Lixus nordmanni Hochhuth, 1847 (Curculionidae: Coleoptera) were examined by optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). A detailed description is provided. In Lixus nordmanni, the male genitalia is annulate type, and it consists of aedeagus and 9th sternite (spiculum gastrale). The aedeagus has two main parts; aedeagal tube and tegmen. The aedeagal tube is curved basally and seems long and cylindrical. It is strongly sclerotised. The 9th sternite is very thin and long, and its apex connected the wide plate which is convex.
