Abstract

This paper proposes a novel approach to handling random actuator failures in control systems through robust and reliable control techniques. The investigation seeks to establish a framework for assessing the $ l_{2}-l_{\infty } $ stability characteristics of nonlinear Markov jump singularly perturbed systems (MJSPSs) using an output Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy-based controller. The study focuses on implementing a component-based dynamic event-triggered mechanism (CBDETM), including quantization, to investigate the transmission of the outputs across networked communication channels. The proposed approach is based on the following key attributes: 1) An event-triggered mechanism that establishes a suitable condition for independent signal transmission from each sensor node to the controller; 2) A stochastic failure model that describes actuator failures; 3) A non-stationary Markov chain that reflects the asynchronous relationship between the system and controller modes; 4) A mode-dependent Lyapunov function is used to establish sufficient conditions to show that the resultant closed-loop system is stochastically mean-square stable with a $\gamma $ level of $ l_{2}-l_{\infty } $ performance index; 5) The theoretical findings are validated by a real numerical example of the Van Der Pol circuit, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM), shows promising advancements in layer-based modeling displaying its potential for substantial waste reduction. Out of all the AM methods, the most cost-effective and popular choice for prototyping and making customized parts is fused deposition modeling (FDM). This research investigates how various FDM process parameters specifically layer thickness, raster angle, and printing speed affect the mechanical properties of 3D-printed PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) specimens reinforced with carbon fiber (CF). Optimal settings, including a 0° raster angle, 0.2 mm layer thickness, and 40 mm/s printing speed, enhance both tensile and flexural strength due to improvement in material bonding and alignment. Interestingly, lower values for raster angle, layer thickness, and printing speed also lead to notable improvements in mechanical properties. Contour and interaction plots provide valuable insights into the significant impact of these parameters. The study also explores how different printing speeds influence the mechanical characteristics of CF-reinforced PETG specimens. Furthermore, the comparative analysis demonstrated that incorporating carbon fiber into recycled PET waste materials resulted in an approximately 30% increase in tensile strength. These findings imply that using CF with plastic waste in large-scale industries can pave the way for innovative solutions, enhancing performance and sustainability, especially in the automotive, and defence sectors.

Abstract

The combined heat and mass transfer phenomenon is a significant aspect of engineering and industrial processes. This phenomenon finds applications in various areas such as air conditioning, cooling and heating control of electronic devices, reactors, chemical systems, and emission processes. This research model focuses on the analysis of mixed convection flow of a viscous fluid with heat and mass transfer on an inclined surface with porous medium characteristics. The study also considers external heat transfer effects, radiation, Soret influence, and chemical reactions. A perturbation solution is derived in closed form, and the impact of various parameters on the thermal behavior is investigated. A comparative analysis of the heating and cooling regimes in plate flow is conducted, revealing a reduction in velocity in the heated plate regime with changes in the permeability parameter and an increase in concentration phase due to the Soret number.

Abstract

This work examines the mechanical properties and structural aspects of Al-Hybrid fibre metal laminates (HFMLs) reinforced with fibres from basalt, hemp, and bamboo, including commercial-grade Al6061 alloy mesh (Al-DMEM). Compression moulding of sustainable fibres into various stacking configurations, such as BAlB, BHAlHB, and BBbAlBbB, was required for fabrication. Using cutting-edge methods like SEM and EDX for microstructure investigation, extensive testing was carried out, including tensile, flexural, impact, interlaminar shear, hardness, and water absorption tests. Basalt/Bamboo/Aluminum/Basalt (BBbAlBbB) was the FML configuration with the best mechanical parameters, showing Vickers hardness (24.23 MPa), tensile strength (44.537 MPa), flexural strength (218.24 MPa), and impact resistance (2.01 J) (59.982 HV). In addition, BAlB showed 83.9 % Vickers hardness, 41.7 % flexural strength, and 90.4 % tensile strength of BBbAlBbB samples. BHAlHB displayed 92.9 % of the flexural strength, 65.3 % of the tensile strength, and 93.7 % of the Vickers hardness of BBbAlBbB. Bamboo is hydrophobic by nature, so adding bamboo fibres to BBbAlBbB significantly boosted its resistance to moisture. This study highlights the potential of hybrid FMLs as high-performance, eco friendly materials that are particularly well-suited for applications in interior and exterior panels for micro-mobility (E-vehicles), with AL-DMEM reinforcement offering significant benefits like improved fibre bonding and structural integrity.

The aim of this study is to investigate the heat and mass transfer characteristics of Burgers nanofluid in the presence of thermo-diffusion effects. The analysis considers higher-order slip effects to study the transport phenomena. Additionally, the study examines the impact of thermal radiation and chemical reactions on the flow. Variable thermal conductivity assumptions are made for heat transfer analysis. The Cattaneo–Christov model, an extension of Fourier heat and mass theories, is employed for the analysis. Heat transfer evaluation is conducted using convective thermal constraints, and numerical computations are carried out using the Runge–Kutta method. The study visually represents the impact of flow parameters through graphical analysis. It is suggested that heat transfer can be significantly improved through the interaction of slip effects, and the concentration phenomenon is enhanced by the Soret number.

Abstract There are several overlapping clinical practice guidelines in acute pancreatitis (AP), however, none of them contains suggestions on patient discharge. The Hungarian Pancreatic Study Group (HPSG) has recently developed a laboratory data and symptom-based discharge protocol which needs to be validated. (1) A survey was conducted involving all members of the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP) to understand the characteristics of international discharge protocols. (2) We investigated the safety and effectiveness of the HPSG-discharge protocol. According to our international survey, 87.5% (49/56) of the centres had no discharge protocol. Abstract

A 75-year-old man presented with an abdominal enlarging painless tumor of the skin evolving over the last 30 years. His past medical history was unremarkable. Physical examination revealed a brownish pedunculated cutaneous mass which had an irregular keratotic warty surface with no discharge or ulceration. The mass was clinically presumed to be a melanocytic tumor, or a verrucous carcinoma. A monoblock excision of the mass was performed with a good outcome. The specimen was then sent to our pathology department to rule out malignancy. Macroscopic examination revealed a brownish tumor of 7.5 × 7 × 1.5 cm which had fissures and cauliflower-like appearance. Final histological report concluded to a giant seborrheic keratosis.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to design a security control for ensuring the stability of systems, maintaining their state within bounded limits and securing operations. Thus, we enhance the reliability and resilience in control systems for critical infrastructure such as manufacturing, network bandwidth constraints, power grids, and transportation amid increasing cyber-threats. These systems operate as singularly perturbed structures with variables changing at different time scales, leading to complexities such as stiffness and parasitic parameters. To manage these complexities, we integrate type-2 fuzzy logic with Markov jumps in dynamic event-triggered protocols. These protocols handle communications, optimizing network resources and improving security by adjusting triggering thresholds in real-time based on system operational states. Incorporating fractional calculus into control algorithms enhances the modeling of memory properties in physical systems. Numerical studies validate the effectiveness of our proposal, demonstrating a 20% reduction in network load and enhanced stochastic stability under varying conditions and cyber-threats. This innovative proposal enables real-time adaptation to changing conditions and robust handling of uncertainties, setting it apart from traditional control strategies by offering a higher level of reliability and resilience. Our methodology shows potential for broader application in improving critical infrastructure systems.

Abstract

This work explores a well-established eighth-algebraic-order numerical method belonging to the explicit Numerov-type family. To enhance its efficiency, we integrated a cost-effective algorithm for adjusting the step size. After each step, the algorithm either maintains the current step length, halves it, or doubles it. Any off-step points required by this technique are calculated using a local interpolation function. Numerical tests involving diverse problems demonstrate the significant efficiency improvements achieved through this approach. The method is particularly effective for solving differential equations with oscillatory behavior, showcasing its ability to maintain high accuracy with fewer function evaluations. This advancement is crucial for applications requiring precise solutions over long intervals, such as in physics and engineering. Additionally, the paper provides a comprehensive MATLAB-R2018a implementation, facilitating ease of use and further research in the field. By addressing both computational efficiency and accuracy, this study contributes a valuable tool for the numerical analysis community.

Abstract

After having gained prominence in the late 20th century, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has emerged as a critical business aspect, adopted widely across the corporate landscape. Although family firms play a significant global role, research on their relationship with CSR performance remains sparse and inconclusive. This paper seeks to bridge this gap by employing the primary classification of family firms, the socioemotional wealth perspective, and its FIBER model to examine their influence on CSR performance. The focus is on Canadian public companies listed on the S&P/TSX Composite Index from 2014 to 2022. Utilizing the NBC Canadian Family Index, the findings suggest that family firms exhibit superior CSR performance compared to their non-family counterparts. Further analyses indicate that family firms with greater control and influence by family members, those named after the family, those with strong emotional ties, and first-generation family firms tend to have enhanced CSR performance. By developing a socioemotional wealth score through FIBER dimensions to classify family firms, this study underscores the association of family firms with higher CSR performance, validating the robustness of the results.

Abstract

Fungi are of great importance in biotechnology, for example in the production of enzymes and metabolites. The main goal of this study was to obtain a high‐coverage draft of the Stachybotrys microspora genome and to annotate and analyze the genome sequence data. The rare fungus S. microspora N1 strain is distinguished by its ability to grow in an alkaline halophilic environment and to efficiently secrete cellulolytic enzymes. Here we report the draft genome sequence composed of 3715 contigs, a genome size of 35 343 854 bp, with a GC content of 53.31% and a coverage around 20.5×. The identification of cellulolytic genes and of their corresponding functions was carried out through analysis and annotation of the whole genome sequence. Forty‐six cellulases were identified using the fungicompanion bioinformatic tool. Interestingly, an S. microspora endoglucanase selected from those with a low isoelectric point was predicted to have a halophilic profile and share significant homology with a well‐known bacterial halophilic cellulase. These results confirm previous biochemical studies revealing a halophilic character, which is a very rare feature among fungal cellulases. All these properties suggest that cellulases of S. microspora may have potential for use in the biofuel, textile, and detergent industries.

The thermo-diffusion applications of nanofluid subject to variable thermal sources have been presented. The significance of Darcy–Forchheimer effects is attributed. The flow comprises the mixed convection and viscous dissipation effects. Furthermore, the variable influence of viscosity, thermal conductivity, and mass diffusivity is treated to analyze the flow. The analysis of problem is referred to convective mass and thermal constraints. The analytical simulations are proceeded with homotopy analysis method. The convergence region is highlighted. Novel physical contribution of parameters is visualized and treated graphically. It is noted that larger Brinkman number leads to improvement in heat transfer. The concentration pattern boosted due to Soret number. The wall shear force enhances with Hartmann number and variable thermal conductivity coefficient.

Abstract

We present a new family of ninth‐order hybrid explicit Numerov‐type methods, effectively utilizing only eight stages, for solving the special second‐order initial value problem. After applying a number of simplifying assumptions, we arrive to a reduced set of order conditions. Then, we derive an optimal method with constant coefficients that requires one less stage than standard methods found in the literature that use nine stages at this moment. Numerical tests are conducted using quadruple precision arithmetic on several well‐known problems and the superiority of the new method is clear. Finally, in Section 6, a Mathematica package is presented that implements the corresponding algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The stability of nonlinear systems in the control domain has been extensively studied using different versions of the algebraic Riccati equation (ARE). This leads to the focus of this work: the search for the time-varying quaternion ARE (TQARE) Hermitian solution. The zeroing neural network (ZNN) method, which has shown significant success at solving time-varying problems, is used to do this. We present a novel ZNN model called ’ZQ-ARE’ that effectively solves the TQARE by finding only Hermitian solutions. The model works quite effectively, as demonstrated by one application to quadrotor control and three simulation tests. Specifically, in three simulation tests, the ZQ-ARE model finds the TQARE Hermitian solution under various initial conditions, and we also demonstrate that the convergence rate of the solution can be adjusted. Furthermore, we show that adapting the ZQ-ARE solution to the state-dependent Riccati equation (SDRE) technique stabilizes a quadrotor’s flight control system faster than the traditional differential-algebraic Riccati equation solution.

Abstract

Abstract Primary gastric malignant lymphoma is a rare tumor. The complications associated with lymphoma are perforation, bleeding, or upper gastrointestinal stricture. While it is well known that perforations in gastric lymphoma often occurs during chemotherapy, spontaneous perforation is extremely rare in patients who did not receive chemotherapy. This complication requires a surgical treatment.
