Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Escherichia coli poses a significant threat to public health, contributing to elevated rates of morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. This study focused on investigating the antibiotic resistance profiles, resistance and virulence gene distributions, biofilm formation capabilities, and sequence types of E. coli strains resistant to six or more antibiotic classes. Among 918 strains isolated from 33 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), 53.6% (492/918) demonstrated resistance, 32.5% (298/918) were MDR, and over 8% (74/918) were resistant to six or more antibiotic classes, exhibiting complete resistance to ampicillin and over 90% to sulfisoxazole, nalidixic acid, and tetracycline. Key resistance genes identified included sul2, blaTEM, tetA, strA, strB, and fimH as the predominant virulence genes linked to cell adhesion but limited biofilm formation; 69% showed no biofilm formation, and approximately 3% were strong producers. Antibiotic residue analysis detected ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole, and trimethoprim in all 33 WWTPs. Multilocus sequence typing analysis identified 29 genotypes, predominantly ST131, ST1193, ST38, and ST69, as high-risk clones of extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli. This study provided a comprehensive analysis of antibiotic resistance in MDR E. coli isolated from WWTPs, emphasizing the need for ongoing surveillance and research to effectively manage antibiotic resistance. Pioglitazone is class of thiazolidinediones that activates peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptors (PPARs) in adipocytes to improve glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity and has been used as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. However, the underlying mechanisms of associated pioglitazone‐induced effects remain unclear. Our study aimed to investigate endogenous metabolite alterations associated with pioglitazone administration in healthy male subjects using an untargeted metabolomics approach. All subjects received 30 mg of pioglitazone once daily in the assigned sequence and period. Urine samples were collected before pioglitazone administration and for 24 h after 7 days of administration. A total of 1465 compounds were detected and filtered using a coefficient of variance below 30% and 108 metabolites were significantly altered upon pioglitazone administration via multivariate statistical analysis. Fourteen significant metabolites were identified using authentic standards and public libraries. Additionally, pathway analysis revealed that metabolites from purine and beta‐alanine metabolisms were significantly altered after pioglitazone administration. Further analysis of quantification of metabolites from purine metabolism, revealed that the xanthine/hypoxanthine and uric acid/xanthine ratios were significantly decreased at post‐dose. Pioglitazone‐dependent endogenous metabolites and metabolic ratio indicated the potential effect of pioglitazone on the activation of PPAR and fatty acid synthesis. This study reports on the highly simple fabrication of green carbon black (GCB) generated from scrap tires with acetic acid to improve the adsorption efficiency for water purification, which is thoroughly compared with conventional carbon black (CB) obtained from petrochemicals. Unlike traditional modification processes with strong acids or bases, the introduction of a relatively mild acid readily allowed for the effective modification of GCB to increase the uptake capability of metal ions and toxic organic dyes to serve as effective adsorbents. The morphological features and thermal decomposition patterns were examined by electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The surface functional groups were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The structural information (ratio of D-defects/G band-graphitic domains) obtained by Raman spectroscopy clearly suggested the successful fabrication of GCB (ID/IG ratio of 0.74), which was distinctively different from typical CB (ID/IG ratio of 0.91). In the modified GCB, the specific surface area (SBET) gradually increased with the reduction of pore size as a function of acetic acid content (52.97 m2/g for CB, 86.64 m2/g for GCB, 102.10-119.50 m2/g for acid-treated GCB). The uptake capability of the modified GCB (312.5 mg/g) for metal ions and organic dyes was greater than that of the unmodified GCB (161.3 mg/g) and typical CB (181.8 mg/g), presumably due to the presence of adsorbed acid. Upon testing them as adsorbents in an aqueous solution, all these carbon materials followed the Langmuir isotherm over the Freundlich model. In addition, the removal rates of cationic species (>70% removal of Cu2+ and crystal violet in 30 min) were much faster and far greater than those of anionic metanil yellow (<40% removal in 3 h), given the strong electrostatic interactions. Thus, this work demonstrates the possibility of recycling waste tires in the powder form of GCB as a cost-effective and green adsorbent that can potentially substitute traditional CB, and the modification strategy provides a proof of concept for developing simple fabrication guidelines of other carbonaceous materials. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first reported in December 2019 and the first case in Korea was confirmed on January 20, 2020. Due to the absence of therapeutic agents and vaccines, the Korean government implemented social distancing on February 29, 2020. This study aimed to examine the effect of physical activity (PA) on health through changes in multi-omics biomarkers with a 6-month of exercise intervention during the first wave of COVID-19 in Korea. Methods: Twenty-seven healthy middle-aged women were recruited and 14 subjects completed the exercise intervention. The mean age (± SD) was 46.3 (± 5.33) and the mean BMI (± SD) was 24.9 (± 3.88). A total of three blood and stool samples were collected at enrollment, after period 1, and after period 2 (3-month intervals). The amount of PA was measured with an accelerometer and by questionnaire. Clinical variables were used, including blood pressure, grip strength, flexibility, and blood glucose levels and lipid markers obtained from laboratory tests. The concentration of blood metabolites was measured by targeted metabolomics. Fecal microbiome data were obtained by 16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. Results: During the second half period (period 2), Coronavirus disease 2019 occurred and spread out in Korea, and PA decreased compared with the first half period (period 1) (185.9 ± 168.73 min/week to 102.5 ± 82.30 min/week; p = 0.0101). Blood pressure, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) decreased in period 1 (p < 0.05) and tended to increase again during period 2 (p < 0.05). Forty metabolites were changed significantly during period 1 (FDR p < 0.05), and we found that 6 of them were correlated with changes in blood pressure, HbA1c, and LDL-C via network analysis. Conclusions: Our results may suggest that exercise improves health through changes in biomarkers at multi-omics levels. However, reduced PA due to COVID-19 can adversely affect health, emphasizing the necessity for sustained exercise and support for home-based fitness to maintain health. The increasing global incidence of quinolone antimicrobial resistance poses a considerable public health concern. The aquatic environment, particularly wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), serves as a major reservoir for antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), leading to the dissemination of antibiotic resistance. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors contributing to quinolone antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli isolates obtained from effluents of 33 WWTPs. A total of 1082 E. coli isolates were analyzed, 32.6% and 17.1% of which showed resistance to nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin, respectively. Phenotypic and genotypic analyses of antibiotic resistance demonstrated that quinolone resistance primarily originated from chromosomal mutations in the gyrA, parC, and parE genes, known as quinolone resistance-determining regions (QRDRs). The amino acid substitution at codon 83 in gyrA was closely associated with nalidixic acid resistance, whereas substitutions at codon 87 in gyrA and codon 80 in parC were significantly associated with ciprofloxacin resistance. The plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes qnrS and qnrB were identified in 41 isolates (11.5%) and 15 isolates (4.2%), respectively. Thus, we confirmed that the quinolone resistance in E. coli in WWTPs primarily occurs through QRDR mutations rather than through the acquisition of PMQR genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that most quinolone-resistant isolates belonged to the B1, A, B2, and D phylogenetic groups. Notably, the B2 group, which is responsible for extraintestinal infections, exhibited the highest rate of quinolone resistance. These findings provide novel insights into the presence and mechanisms of quinolone resistance in E. coli isolates from WWTPs, emphasizing the need for further research and understanding of quinolone resistance in the environment. This study investigated the structural relationship between tourist destination identification and environmental responsibility practices based on the social responsibility activities for visitors of marine sports tourist destinations where domestic travel has been active since COVID-19. Furthermore, we aimed to provide academic and practical implications by investigating the relationship between DSR, a major variable in sustainable marine sports tourism, and ERB. Data from a survey of tourists who participated in marine sports (n = 392) were analyzed using structural equation modeling and Hayes PROCESS macro with bootstrapping procedures. According to the analysis results, it was found that marine sports tourist DSR positively affected destination identification and ERB, and that tourist destination identification positively influenced ERB. Second, it was shown that the effect of the social responsibility of a marine sports tourist destination on ERB is mediated via the influence of tourist destination identification. The COVID-19 pandemic led to changes in business communication. As face-to-face communication was no longer possible, many businesses shifted to Zoom because of its ease of use and user-friendly functionality. One unique context in which users were forced to transition to fully online communication was entrepreneurs' pitch presentations. This study aims to explore whether users intend to continue to use Zoom for these important investment meetings after the pandemic. The study was guided by the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Usage of Technology (UTAUT) model. We surveyed 127 business investors in Korea. The results indicated that performance expectancy and social influence were positively associated with investors' intentions to use Zoom for entrepreneurs' pitch presentations in a voluntary setting (i.e., after the pandemic restrictions are fully lifted). Effort expectancy and facilitating conditions were not significantly related to investors' intentions. Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is hard to diagnose without a muscle biopsy. We aimed to identify a metabolite panel for IIM detection by metabolomics approach in serum samples and to explore the metabolomic signature in tissue samples from a mouse model. We obtained serum samples from IIM patients, ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients, healthy volunteers and muscle tissue samples from IIM murine model. All samples were subjected to a targeted metabolomic approach with various statistical analyses on serum and tissue samples to identify metabolic alterations. Three machine learning methods, such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF), were applied to build prediction models. A set of 7 predictive metabolites was calculated using backward stepwise selection, and the model was evaluated within 5-fold cross-validation by using three machine algorithms. The model produced an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of 0.955 (LR), 0.908 (RF) and 0.918 (SVM). A total of 68 metabolites were significantly changed in mouse tissue. Notably, the most influential pathways contributing to the inflammation of muscle were the polyamine pathway and the beta-alanine pathway. Five‐fluorouracil (5‐FU) is a chemotherapeutic agent that is mainly metabolized by the rate‐limiting enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD). The DPD enzyme activity deficiency involves a wide range of severities. Previous studies have demonstrated the effect of a DPYD single nucleotide polymorphism on 5‐FU efficacy and highlighted the importance of studying such genes for cancer treatment. Common polymorphisms of DPYD in European ancestry populations are less frequently present in Koreans. DPD is also responsible for the conversion of endogenous uracil (U) into dihydrouracil (DHU). We quantified U and DHU in plasma samples of healthy male Korean subjects, and samples were classified into two groups based on DHU/U ratio. The calculated DHU/U ratios ranged from 0.52 to 7.12, and the two groups were classified into the 10th percentile and 90th percentile for untargeted metabolomics analysis using liquid chromatography‐quantitative time‐of‐flight‐mass spectrometry. A total of 4440 compounds were detected and filtered out based on a coefficient of variation below 30%. Our results revealed that six metabolites differed significantly between the high activity group and low activity group (false discovery rate q‐value < 0.05). Uridine was significantly higher in the low DPD activity group and is a precursor of U involved in pyrimidine metabolism; therefore, we speculated that DPD deficiency can influence uridine levels in plasma. Furthermore, the cutoff values for detecting DPD deficient patients from previous studies were unsuitable for Koreans. The ALMA observations of the high-mass star-forming region G10.34-0.14 reveal the existence of three massive hot cores. The most massive of these cores, core S1, exhibits both high and low-velocity jet/outflow in the CO, SiO, and CH3OH. It is associated with water and Class I methanol masers. The core N shows a low-velocity CO outflow and is associated with an Extended Green Object, along with Class I and II methanol masers. The characteristics of the outflows and masers in these two cores suggest they are in different stage of evolution and varying physical conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present 850 μm polarization observations of the L1689 molecular cloud, part of the nearby Ophiuchus molecular cloud complex, taken with the POL-2 polarimeter on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). We observe three regions of L1689: the clump L1689N which houses the IRAS 16293-2433 protostellar system, the starless clump SMM-16, and the starless core L1689B. We use the Davis–Chandrasekhar–Fermi method to estimate plane-of-sky field strengths of 366 ± 55 μG in L1689N, 284 ± 34 μG in SMM-16, and 72 ± 33 μG in L1689B, for our fiducial value of dust opacity. These values indicate that all three regions are likely to be magnetically transcritical with sub-Alfvénic turbulence. In all three regions, the inferred mean magnetic field direction is approximately perpendicular to the local filament direction identified in Herschel Space Telescope observations. The core-scale field morphologies for L1689N and L1689B are consistent with the cloud-scale field morphology measured by the Planck Space Observatory, suggesting that material can flow freely from large to small scales for these sources. Based on these magnetic field measurements, we posit that accretion from the cloud onto L1689N and L1689B may be magnetically regulated. However, in SMM-16, the clump-scale field is nearly perpendicular to the field seen on cloud scales by Planck, suggesting that it may be unable to efficiently accrete further material from its surroundings. We present results of continuum and spectral line observations with Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and 22 GHz water (H2O) maser observations using the KVN (Korean VLBI Network) and VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry) array (KaVA) toward a high-mass star-forming region, G25.82–0.17. Multiple 1.3 mm continuum sources are revealed, indicating the presence of young stellar objects (YSOs) at different evolutionary stages, namely an ultracompact H ii region, G25.82–E, a high-mass young stellar object (HM-YSO), G25.82–W1, and starless cores, G25.82–W2 and G25.82–W3. Two SiO outflows, at N–S and SE–NW orientations, are identified. The CH3OH 8−1–70 E line, known to be a Class I CH3OH maser at 229 GHz, is also detected, showing a mixture of thermal and maser emission. Moreover, the H2O masers are distributed in a region ∼0.″25 shifted from G25.82–W1. The CH3OH 224–215 E line shows a compact ringlike structure at the position of G25.82–W1 with a velocity gradient, indicating a rotating disk or envelope. Assuming Keplerian rotation, the dynamical mass of G25.82–W1 is estimated to be >25 M⊙ and the total mass of 20–84 M⊙ is derived from the 1.3 mm continuum emission. The driving source of the N–S SiO outflow is G25.82–W1 while that of the SE–NW SiO outflow is uncertain. Detection of multiple high-mass starless/protostellar cores and candidates without low-mass cores implies that HM-YSOs could form in individual high-mass cores as predicted by the turbulent core accretion model. If this is the case, the high-mass star formation process in G25.82 would be consistent with a scaled-up version of low-mass star formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The structure and physicochemical properties of rice starch modified with 4-α-glucanotransferase (4αGTase) were compared for different enzyme treatment times (1, 24, and 96 h). Specifically, the gelation properties of native rice starch and 4αGTase-treated rice starch (GS) were analyzed regarding their structural characteristics. The average molecular weight of GS decreased with increasing treatment time, and was 4.73 × 104 g/mol after 96 h of treatment. The chain length distribution was also broadened with the enzyme treatment, as 4αGTase transferred α-glucan from one chain to another. The enzyme treatment also altered the gelation properties and decreased the viscosity of the starch depending on the treatment time, perhaps due to the changes in molecular weight distribution and branched chain length distribution. Moreover, the overall characteristics of GS differed significantly from those of maltodextrin. The physicochemical characteristics of GS with different degrees of 4αGTase treatment suggest that it can be used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To determine whether the risk of intra-amniotic infection/inflammation and spontaneous preterm delivery (SPTD) varies as a function of the concentration of cervical fetal fibronectin (fFN) in patients with preterm labor and intact membranes. Methods: This prospective study included 180 patients with preterm labor and intact membranes who had a sample collected for quantitative fFN measurement and underwent amniocentesis. Amniotic fluid was cultured for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and genital mycoplasmas. Intra-amniotic inflammation was defined as an amniotic fluid matrix metalloproteinase-8 concentration >23 ng/mL. Results: (1) The prevalence of intra-amniotic infection/inflammation and SPTD within 7 days was 32.2% (58/180) and 33.9% (61/178), respectively; (2) The higher the fFN concentration, the greater the risk of intra-amniotic infection/inflammation and SPTD within 7 days (P<0.001, respectively); (3) An fFN concentration 150 ng/mL had a better diagnostic performance than an fFN 50 ng/mL in the identification of intra-amniotic infection/inflammation and SPTD within 7 days; (4) Among the patients with an fFN <50 ng/mL, intra-amniotic infection/inflammation was identified in 7.6% (6/79) of patients and 66.7% (4/6) delivered within 7 days. Fragmented nucleic acids are potent stimulators for inflammatoryresponses provoking pathological outcomes by activating adaptive immunity.In this study, highly cationic surfaces were prepared on electrospunnanofibrous meshes to scavenge nucleic acids to the surfaces. Poly(ε-caprolactone)[PCL]-poly(ethylenimine) [PEI] block copolymers were synthesized bycoupling the carboxyl-terminated PCL to the primary amines of branchedPEI. Polymeric solutions composed of PCL–PEI and PCL were electrospunto nanofibrous mats, and the surfaces were further methylated to preparehighly cationic surfaces on the mats. Raman spectroscopy revealedthat the presence of increased methylated amines on the surfaces ofthe mats compared to unmodified mats. The methylated surfaces showedsignificant increases of wettability after methylation, suggestinghighly charged surfaces caused by methylation of the primary amines.When the blend ratio of PCL–PEI was increased, the scavengedDNA was also increased, and the methylation further strengthened thescavenging ability of the mats. Fluorescently labeled oligodeoxynucleicacids were significantly adsorbed on the surface of the mats dependingon the amounts of PCL–PEI and the degree of methylation. Inthe presence of the methylated nanofibrous mats, inflammatory responsesinduced by CpG oligonucleotides in murine macrophages were significantlyreduced, which was confirmed by measuring inflammatory cytokine levelsincluding TNF-α and IFN-γ. This study surveyed physical, chemical, and biological parameters in a dammed pool in comparison to those of the adjacent main stream. Because the dammed pool in this study was a unique zone formed by a slit check dam, the properties of the pool and the main stream could be considered representative of the conditions with and without a slit check dam, respectively. Data were collected in the dammed pool and in the reach of the main stream above the slit check dam in the Wasada Stream, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The dammed pool exhibited a lower velocity and finer substrate than those of the main stream. In addition, the water temperature in the dammed pool was slightly higher than in the main stream. Dissolved Oxygen and Chemical Oxygen Demand in the pool were lower than the allowable standards for water pollution. The pool exhibited worse biological indices of water quality than the main stream. Out of a total of 18 taxa found in the stream, only 5 taxa were found in the dammed pool. Most individuals in the dammed pool belonged to the genus Chironomus, which tends to colonize heavily polluted sites. According to these various indicators, the water quality of the dammed pool was lower than that of the main stream. The longest durations of the presence of the dammed pool mainly occurred during snowmelt and during the rainy season. The average duration of the presence of the dammed pool was calculated as 14 days. The dammed pool exhibited a short-duration cycle of formation and extinction according to seasonal variations in water discharge. This cycle reduces the negative effects of the pool on water quality. In this study, 4-α-glucanotransferase (4αGTase)-treated rice starch (GS) was added after 1-h (1 GS) and 96-h (96 GS) treatments to the aqueous phase of a curcumin-loaded emulsion to produce filled hydrogels (1 GS-FH and 96 GS-FH, respectively). The relative protective effects of the FH system, native rice starch-based filled hydrogel (RS-FH), and emulsion without starch (EM), on curcumin were evaluated based on ultraviolet (UV) stability and simulated gastrointestinal studies. The UV stability and curcumin retention after in vitro digestion of the filled hydrogels (FH) samples were greater than those of the EM samples. RS-FH showed a 2.28-fold improvement in UV stability over EM due to the higher viscosity of RS. 1 GS-FH and 96 GS-FH increased curcumin retention by 2.31- and 2.60-fold, respectively, and the microstructure of 96 GS-FH, determined using confocal laser microscopy, remained stable even after the stomach phase. These effects were attributed to the molecular structure of GS, with decreased amylopectin size and amylose content resulting from the enzyme treatment. The encapsulation of lipids within the GS hydrogel particles served to protect and deliver the curcumin component, suggesting that GS-FH can be applied to gel-type food products and improve the chemical stability of curcumin. Firefighters are known to be exposed to a variety of hazardous materials and combustion products during operational and training activities, as well as in fire stations. However, exposure to diesel exhaust emissions, classified as carcinogenic to humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), is also present in the fire station environment. In this study, concentrations of elemental carbon (EC), which is a surrogate of diesel exhaust and indoor air pollutants, has been measured to compare the effect of an exhaust reduction system (ERS) that was installed in the engine bays of two fire stations to mitigate indoor air pollution levels in the garage, duty offices, and dormitory/shower areas. The levels of most pollutants were reduced after the installation of the ERS. Pollutants may disperse inside of fire stations. Therefore, the ERS is a valuable strategy to mitigate pollutant exposure among firefighters and outdoor air pollution using the filtration ability of an ERS. The results of this study suggest that all truck bays should install an ERS to reduce pollutant exposure and that installation is especially necessary for EURO 3 fire vehicles. Coproporphyrin (CP)-I and CP-III are the markers of organic anion-transporting polypeptides' (OATPs) activities, and they are porphyrin metabolites that originate from heme synthesis. Furthermore, CP-I and CP-III, which are OATP1B endogenous metabolites, have gradually attracted the attention of scientists and researchers in recent years. Previous studies have also observed CP-I and CP-III levels as clinical biomarkers for predicting OATP1B inhibition in drug-drug interaction studies. To establish an accurate ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the quantitation of CP-I and CP-III, we reviewed previous methodological publications and applied them to a clinical pharmacology study using a human urine matrix. We used 13.25 M formic acid as a working solution for internal standards (CP-I 15 N 4 and CP-III d 8 ) to avoid isobaric interference. The calibration curve showed good linearity in the range of 1-100 ng/mL, with a correlation coefficient ( R 2 ) higher than 0.996 in each validation batch. Both the between-run and within-run assays achieved good precision and accuracy, and we found that both CP-I and CP-III were stable in the pre-study validation. The method exhibited suitable dilution integrity, allowing for the re-analysis of samples with concentrations exceeding the upper limit of quantification through dilution. Trimethylamine N -oxide (TMAO) is a small molecular amine oxide generated from dietary choline and carnitine through intestinal microbial metabolism. Recently, TMAO has attracted much public attention as its role in disease progression has been proven in many clinical studies. The plasma concentration of TMAO in humans was found to be positively associated with the increased risk of many diseases including cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney diseases. To achieve accurate and sensitive quantitation of TMAO for clinical applications, we established and validated a simple quantitative method using a liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) system. We constructed an eight-point calibration curve in an artificial surrogate matrix instead of the commonly used biological matrices to avoid interference from the endogenous TMAO. The calibration curve showed excellent linearity in the range of 1 to 5,000 ng/mL, with a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) higher than 0.996 in each validation batch. Moreover, both the intra-day and inter-day assays achieved satisfactory precision and accuracy results ranging from 1.65-7.15% and 96.36-111.43%, respectively. Further, this method was cross-validated using a human plasma matrix and applied to a clinical pharmacology study. Electrospun nanofibrous meshes were surface-modified for selective capturing of specific cells from a continuous flow in PDMS microchannels. We electrospun nanofibrous mats composed of poly(ε-carprolactone) (PCL) and amine-functionalized block copolymers composed of PCL and poly(ethylenimine) (PEI). A mixture of biotinylated PEG and blunt PEG was chemically tethered to the nanofibrous mats via the surface-exposed amines on the mat. The degree of biotinylation was fluorescently and quantitatively assayed for confirming the surface-biotinylation levels for avidin-specific binding. The incorporation level of avidin gradually increased when the blend ratio of biotinylated PEG on the mat increased, confirming the manipulated surfaces with various degree of biotinylation. Biotinylated cells were incubated with avidin-coated biotinylated mats and the specific binding of biotinylated cells was monitored in a microfluidic channel with a continuous flow of culture medium, which suggests efficient and selective capturing of the biotinylated cells on the nanofibrous mat.
