Weed control is vital in agricultural production. Chemical control methods are generally preferred in weed control as they (1) affect quickly and (2) reduce the labour requirement. However, in conventional applications chemicals are generally applied to whole field surface. Therefore, non-targeted areas are also sprayed. This increases 1) amount of herbicide used and (2) risk of off-target chemical movement. In this study, a patch spraying system was developed to automatically detect and spray herbicides on weeds in the corn field based on weed density. In order to determine the weed regions, a digital camera was fitted in front of the tractor. The images taken using the camera were then simultaneously processed using an algorithm written in MatlabTM software. The results of the field study showed that at 4, 6 and 8 km h-1 forward speeds, application volumes decrease by 30.21%, 28.82% and 32.28%, respectively, when it is compared to the conventional application methods. It was also determined that the application accuracy rates were 80%, 81.66% and 75% respectively for 4, 6 and 8 km h-1 speeds.

Tarımsal üretimde yabancı ot mücadelesi, teknik, ekonomik ve çevresel açıdan önemli bir konudur. Yabancı ot mücadelesinde, kısa sürede etki göstermesi ve insan işgücünü azaltması gibi nedenlerden dolayı günümüzde en fazla kimyasal mücadele yöntemi kullanılmaktadır. Kimyasalların geleneksel yöntemlerle tüm araziye tekdüze bir şekilde uygulanması ile hedef olmayan alanlar ilaçlanmakta ve böylece ilaç kullanım miktarı artmaktadır. Ülkemizde üretilen ilaçlama makinelerinde arazi görüntüleri kullanılarak değişken düzeyli ilaçlama uygulaması gerçekleştiren sistemler bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, ülkemizde yaygın tarımı yapılan mısır bitkisinde, yabancı otların bulunduğu bölgeler görüntü işleme teknikleri ile gerçek zamanlı olarak belirlenerek bu bölgelere yabancı otların sayısına bağlı olarak bir kontrol sistemi aracılığı ile püskürtme uygulaması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Arazi üzerinde yabancı otların bulunduğu bölgelerin belirlenmesi için traktör ön kısmına yerleştirilen bir kameradan alınan görüntüler Matlab programına aktarılmış ve bir algoritma ile görüntüdeki bazı öznitelikler ön plana çıkarılmıştır. Görüntü üzerinde yabancı otların bulunması durumunda OPC (Endüstriyel otomasyon için birlikte çalışabilirlik standardı) sunucu yazılımı kullanılarak Matlab-PLC arasında veri alışverişi sağlanmıştır. Sistemin etkinliğini belirlemek amacıyla ilk olarak ön testler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu testler süresince beton zemin üzerine farklı aralıklarla yerleştirilen yeşil nesnelerin bulunduğu bölgelere püskürtme uygulamaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. İkinci aşamada ise arazi testleri gerçekleştirilmiş ve testler sonucunda kamera kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen değişken düzeyli uygulama yönteminde, klasik uygulama yöntemine göre uygulama hacimlerinde; 4, 6 ve 8 km/h traktör ilerleme hızlarında sırasıyla %30.21, %28.82 ve %32.28 azalma olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca basınç regülatörü yerine debi kontrol sisteminin etkinliği incelenmiş ve bu sistemin değişken traktör hızlarında 100 L/ha hedeflenen normu %8.94 sapma ile kontrol altında tuttuğu görülmüştür. In weed control, chemical control methods are commonly used today because of having effect in a short time and reducing the human labor. With the application of chemicals in a uniform manner to all surfaces with traditional methods, non-target areas are being sprayed and thus the amount of herbicide use is increased. In the spraying machines that are produced in our country, there are no systems that apply variable rate spraying by using land images. In this study, the regions where weeds were found in the cornfields, that are widespread in our country, were determined in real time by image processing techniques and spraying was applied to these regions via a control system depending on the weed population. In order to determine the regions with weeds on the land, the images taken by a camera placed in front of the tractor were transferred to Matlab software and some features in the image were foregrounded by an algorithm. If there are weeds on the image, data exchange is provided between Matlab and PLC using OPC (OLE for Process Control) server software. Preliminary tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of the system. During these tests, spraying was applied to the regions where the green objects were placed on the concrete floor at different intervals. In the second stage, the field tests were carried out and as a result, it was found that in the variable rate application method performed by using the camera, at 4, 6 and 8 km/h tractor speeds, application volumes were decreased by 30.21%, 28.82% and 32.28% respectively when compared to the classical application methods. In addition, the effectiveness of a flow-based control system which is used instead of a pressure regulator was examined and it was found that this system controlled the targeted norm of 100 L/ha with a deviation of 8.94% at a variable tractor speed. 119
