Insomnia is a frequent and heightened pathology in the general population of developed countries, and its condition generally leads to health discomfort and performance drop in daily and work-related tasks. As current pharmacological treatments for insomnia do not always seem sufficient to mitigate impairment, contemporary cognitive approaches might shed light on developing complementary therapies for this population. We propose a cognitive stimulation intervention program based on the importance of cognitive abilities as precipitating and maintenance variables of sleep disturbances. A full phase I-II-III clinical trial is proposed in which the first two studies will serve to assess the safety of the intervention and to identify the maximum tolerated time of the computerized cognitive training (phase I) and the minimum effective number of training sessions (phase II) in the absence of adverse events or side effects. Next, a phase-III double-blind randomized controlled trial design will be set. Sixty individuals with insomnia aged 25 to 55 years will enroll in a home-based personalized computerized cognitive stimulation program for a total time of 8 weeks, training 5 days per week. Sixty insomnia patients matched in a variety of factors will constitute the active control group, where the orthogonal activities will not be cognitively demanding. Sleep, cognitive, emotional, and quality of life variables will be measured before and immediately after training. A linear mixed model and hierarchical regression analysis will be used to investigate intervention effects. The results derived from this study will be precious for future research and treatment in cognitive performance and clinical pathologies.Clinical Trial Registration: [https://clinicaltrials.gov/], identifier [NCT05050292].

El análisis de sentimientos en críticas de cine desempeña un papel crucial tanto en la industria del cine como en la investigación académica. Este artículo, se enfoca en la combinación de n-gramas y el uso de redes neuronales para mejorar la clasificación para el análisis de sentimientos en críticas de cine en español. El método propuesto utiliza la combinación de n-gramas como modelo de representación y se evalúa en el corpus Muchocine, comparándolo con los métodos del estado del arte. Los resultados destacan un rendimiento superior en términos de precision, recall y f-measure, demostrando así la eficacia de la combinación de n-gramas en el rendimiento del clasificador.

An electrical cathode model (ECM) of a highpressure sodium (HPS) lamp based on physical laws has been developed. The proposed ECM calculates the instantaneous voltage drop in a cathode sheath and the temperature distribution inside the cathode using as input parameter the cathode geometry and the positive column current. The model is based on the electrode heat transport equation, which is solved using the finite-element method. So, since it stems from the physics describing the cathode behavior, it is found that the ECM predicts in a satisfactory way the cathode voltage drop over a wide range of work conditions. The obtained results were compared with those reported in the current literature. It can be concluded that the ECM is a useful tool in understanding the interaction between the positive column and the cathode in order to improve, for instance, HPS lamp ballast designs, as measuring the potential drop across the cathode sheath using a commercial lamp is particularly difficult. The model takes into account the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity, the electrical cathode resistivity, and the total emissivity. In this paper, an electrical model for a high-pressure sodium discharge based on the energy-balance equation is presented. A database containing the transport-coefficient values for different temperatures and pressures was used to solve the energy-balance equation. The resultant model is implemented in SIMULINK as a two-terminal device, providing a powerful tool for simulating the electrical-discharge behavior at low and high frequencies under different power requirements. This model reveals that the temperature depth modulation is very low when the current source has a square waveform, even at low frequencies. The model was validated with experimental results. Finally, in order to decrease the complexity and the computing time of the electrical-discharge characteristics, an approximation of the used database is proposed, obtaining very acceptable results. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) have been successfully synthesized by an ac glow-arc discharge in a He--C[H.sub.4] mixture gas with 34% at .Ni/10.32% at .Y as catalyst under high frequency (42 kHz) and low power supply (360 W). This method profits the particle agglomeration in the gap under the influence of high-frequency electrical field. The power density in the plasma region is inferior to 0.1 W/[cm.sup.3] and the processes time duration is lower than 5 min. Results obtained from scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman scattering show that CNF are relatively free of amorphous-carbon coating. Surface and structural analysis indicate that the CNFs have an average diameter of 80 nm. Index Terms--Carbon nanofibers (CNFs), glow-arc discharge, modular plasma reactor, resonant converter.

Background: One of the most diverse and threatened plant associations in the Yucatan peninsula has not been characterized and therefore not included in any protection category in Mexico. We characterize and describe this plant association, which is rapidly disappearing or being irreversibly transformed as a result of anthropic activities. We propose a name and attempt a preliminary assessment of its taxonomic richness, and the identification of priority species to be preserved. Questions: What is the species richness and plant endemism associated within this plant association? What are the ecologically important and high-priority species for conservation? How is it different from associated or similar plant associations? Studied species: Vascular plants. Study site and dates: Northern Yucatan peninsula; 2021-2023. Methods: The plant association was characterized, and quantitative parameters were recorded. The Importance Value Index was estimated to assess its local ecological importance, and each species was assigned a conservation category in order to evaluate the conservation status in a global context. Results: We propose Seasonally flooded Coquinal (SFC) as a name for this plant association based on geomorphological, physiognomic, and structural attributes. A total of 206 species were recorded, which two are endemic to the SFC and 28 to the Yucatan Peninsula Biotic Province (YPBP). Twelve species are listed under a risk category. Conclusions: The SFC harbors a high plant diversity of endemic species to the YPBP, 12 of which are included in the IUCN red list, for which its typification and conservation should be a high priority in Mexico.

Background: Hechtia is characterized by its terrestrial, succulent rosettes, dioecy, and unisexual, dimorphic flowers, mainly fragrant. The paucity and fragmentary herbarium material limit the species recognition but living material reveals diagnostic characters to delimitate them. Hypothesis: Hechtia species are circumscribed by a combination of vegetative and floral characters of both sexes. If the new taxon does not share morphological characters with other species, it will be described as new. Taxon: Hechtia. Study site and dates: Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve, Jalisco, 1985-2023. Methods: Field collected, cultivated as well as herbarium material of the new taxon were analyzed and compared to other species from the Pacific Lowlands and adjacent areas, particularly flowers of both sexes, fruits, and seeds. Conservation status using IUCN criteria is reported for the new species. Results: Specimens of Hechtia chamelensis have been misidentified as H. laevis and H. reticulata (both described from fruiting, fragmentary specimens) but the fruit and seed features of both taxa do not match those of the new species. H. chamelensis is known from the Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve and it is characterized by strict sympodial growth pattern, green leaves with red hues, shiny and glabrous above, white lepidote below, panicles usually simple to (rarely staminate ones) 2-divided, staminate flowers pinkish to pale white, pistillate with pale green to white petals. Conclusions: Vegetative and reproductive features as well as geographical distribution allow the recognition of H. chamelensis as a new species native from Jalisco, Mexico.

Epilepsy, a prevalent neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, significantly impacts individuals’ neurobiological, cognitive, and social lives. This report presents a feasibility study investigating the effects of a computerized cognitive training program on enhancing executive functions, particularly inhibitory control, in children and adolescents with epilepsy. Employing a pre-test–intervention–post-test design, the study involved 26 participants with diverse epileptic syndromes, focusing on those without severe intellectual disabilities. The intervention, based on the CogniFit Inc. platform, consisted of personalized tasks aiming to improve participants’ inhibitory skills over 16 weeks, with an average of 40 sessions completed per participant. Results indicated significant improvements in reaction times and error rates in an anti-saccade task, demonstrating enhanced inhibitory control and general performance post-intervention. These findings suggest that targeted cognitive training is a feasible approach to bolster executive functions in young individuals with epilepsy, potentially improving their academic performance, employability, and social interactions. The study underscores the importance of early cognitive interventions in epilepsy management, highlighting the potential for computerized programs to aid in mitigating cognitive deficits associated with the condition.

Background: Centrosema (Fabaceae) includes 35-44 species in the New World, 10 in Mexico, and 9 in the Yucatan Peninsula. Most species have trifoliolate leaves and bicolored flowers. Unifoliolate leaves are an infrequent character that is found in a few species, e.g., C. sagittatum (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Brandegee, but monochromatic flowers, e.g, lacking nectar guides, is even a more unusual character state. Several populations of a Centrosema from the Yucatan Peninsula share both character states, a combination that sets them apart from other members of the genus. Question: Is the Centrosema with unifoliolate leaves, alate petioles, and monochromatic flowers of the Yucatan Peninsula, a species distinct from the phenetically similar C. sagittatum? Studies species: Centrosema (Fabaceae, Papilionoideae). Study site and dates: Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, 2021-2023. Methods: Botanical specimens were collected and determined taxonomically through the use of relevant literature, keys, and the consulting of botanical collections. The conservation status of the new species was assessed using the IUCN methodology. Results: The specimens collected do represent an undescribed species that differs from Centrosema sagittatum by its smaller, cream-yellow, monochromatic flowers. The species is assessed as Endangered (EN). Conclusions: A new species, Centrosema flavescens from the Yucatan Peninsula is proposed. Eleven species of Centrosema are now recognized in Mexico, nine in the Yucatan Peninsula. C. sagittatum does not occur in the Yucatan peninsula.

Background: Pavonia (Malvaceae) is a morphologically diverse genus with more than 200 species in America of which 32 have been previously reported in Mexico. In a field trip to the Reserva Estatal de Dzilam de Bravo, in northern Yucatan, a population of a Malvaceae species was detected that could not be unequivocally matched with any species known previously in the country. Questions: What is the identity of the Malvaceae species collected? Is it a taxonomic national or regional novelty? Species of study: Malvaceae, Malvoideae, Pavonia. Study site and dates: Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, 2021–2022. Methods: Botanical specimens were collected and determined taxonomically through the use of specialized keys, and consulting of botanical collections. The conservation status was assessed using the IUCN methodology. Results: The specimens collected at the study site do not represent an undescribed species but instead Pavonia paludicola Nicolson ex Fryxell, which is a new record for Mexico. The species is assessed as Least Concern (LC) along its full distributional range whereas the Yucatan population is assessed as Data Deficient (DD) at this time. Furthermore, we offer a key to the two species of Pavonia in the Mexican portion of the Yucatan Peninsula, the second being P. schiedeana Steud., whose conservation status is assessed as Least concerned (LC). Conclusion: With the report of Pavonia paludicola, thirty-three species of the genus are now recognized from Mexico, two of which occur in the Mexican portion of the Yucatan Peninsula.

El presente articulo plasma los resultados de una investigación basada en la implementación de técnicas de aprendizaje profundo para la detección de emociones en textos, tomando como referencia la recolección de datos de la red social Twitter considerando que, según diversos estudios, es una fuente de información donde muchas personas expresan sus emociones a través de sus publicaciones. El objetivo de esta investigación fue resaltar el grado de precisión que presentan las redes neuronales convolucionales (CNN) para la identificación de emociones frente a otras técnicas de clasificación basadas en el aprendizaje automático, dado que la implementación de este tipo de red neuronal en el rubro del cómputo afectivo es relativamente nueva.A partir de un experimento con datos analizados previamente con otras técnicas de clasificación se obtuvieron resultados que favorecen en tema de precisión a las CNN frente a otros métodos de clasificación como: Conjunto de cadenas de clasificación (ECC), aprendizaje multietiqueta por retropropagación (BP-MLL), Vecino más cercano k de varias etiquetas (ML-kNN), Relevancia binaria (BR), Jerarquía de los clasificadores multietiqueta (HOMER) y otros más.

Objetivo. Evaluar las características epidemiológicas, clínicas, quirúrgicas, patológicas y desenlaces en el seguimiento de los pacientes receptores de trasplante cardiaco en el Instituto Nacional Cardiovascular durante 2010-2020. Materiales y métodos. Estudio retrospectivo descriptivo de pacientes sometidos a trasplante cardiaco en un centro de referencia nacional, se describen las características clínicas, quirúrgicas, de laboratorio, de patología y la supervivencia de los pacientes hasta los 10 años de seguimiento. Resultados. Ochenta y seis pacientes fueron trasplantados en 10 años, la mediana de edad fue de 41 años (RIQ 28-56), con predominancia de varones (66,3%). Las tres primeras causas de indicación de trasplante cardiaco fueron: cardiomiopatía dilatada (48,9%), cardiopatía isquémica (17,4%) y miocarditis (6,9%). El tiempo de isquemia total fue de 160 min (RIQ 129,7-233,5). La sobrevida al año, cinco y diez años fue de 84,8%, 73,6% y 65,7%, respectivamente. La principal causa de muerte fue la infecciosa (39,1%) y de origen desconocido (26%). Conclusiones. La principal etiología de la insuficiencia cardiaca en el receptor de trasplante cardiaco en el Perú, en los últimos años, fue la cardiomiopatía dilatada no isquémica. Se observa que la tasa de sobrevida fue similar a la de registros internacionales; sin embargo, la tasa de mortalidad de causa infecciosa y muerte de origen desconocido es alta, lo cual plantea un desafío en el manejo de los pacientes postrasplante.

Objetivo. Determinar las características clínicas y epidemiológicas de los pacientes con dispositivos de soporte mecánico circulatorio (DSMC) de corta duración, posinfarto de miocardio (IAM) en un hospital de referencia nacional. Materiales y métodos. Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, de pacientes post IAM en los que se implantó dispositivos de soporte mecánico circulatorio de corta duración desde el año 2015 al 2020. Resultados. Se implantaron nueve dispositivos de asistencia en igual número de pacientes debido a choque cardiogénico post-IAM. Todos los pacientes fueron varones con IAM con elevación del segmento ST (IAMCEST). Se implantaron ocho dispositivos de oxigenación por membrana extracorpórea (ECMO) y una bomba de flujo centrífugo (en configuración LVAD). La mediana de tiempo de uso del dispositivo fue de ocho días. Las complicaciones más frecuentes fueron la hemorragia no fatal (55,6%), injuria renal aguda (44,4%) y la sepsis (44,4%). La mortalidad intrahospitalaria fue de 55,6%. Conclusiones. El uso de DSMC de corta duración posinfarto de miocardio es aún limitado en nuestra institución y tiene como principal representante al ECMO post-IAMCEST complicado con choque cardiogénico. A pesar del uso de estos dispositivos la mortalidad intrahospitalaria es elevada.

Background: Cozumel island, Mexico has one of the best preserved and threatened coastal vegetation in the Mexican Caribbean. Increasing the ecological knowledge about these communities can help to establish conservation priorities. Question: How are the structure and composition of well-preserved coastal vegetation communities in the Island of Cozumel? Study site and dates: The study was conducted in the northeastern coast of the island of Cozumel, at the Municipality of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, from July 2014 to November 2014. Methods: Five interception lines of 80 m were randomly established along environmental gradient, perpendicular to the coastal line, in each three different environments: rocky beaches, sandy beaches, and coastal dunes. Species richness, diversity, and importance value index of the species in the community were computed, and floristic composition recorded. Results: We recorded 23 families, 35 genera and 37 species. The most representative families are Poaceae with four species, Rubiaceae and Asteraceae with three species each; Sideroxylon and Euphorbia were the richest genera, with two species each. The three coastal environments presented no statistical differences in its relative density, coverage and diversity, but differed in species composition and richness (higher in rocky beaches and coastal dunes). Conclusions: Two dissimilar coastal plant communities can be recognized into the halophilous vegetation type, which are established in sandy and rocky environments respectively. The floristic composition and the species association of the rocky beaches reveal the relationship between the Island of Cozumel coastal vegetation and plant communities in other Caribbean islands.

In the field of word recognition and reading, it is commonly assumed that frequently repeated words create more accessible memory traces than infrequently repeated words, thus capturing the word-frequency effect. Nevertheless, recent research has shown that a seemingly related factor, contextual diversity (defined as the number of different contexts [e.g., films] in which a word appears), is a better predictor than word-frequency in word recognition and sentence reading experiments. Recent research has shown that contextual diversity plays an important role when learning new words in a laboratory setting with adult readers. In the current experiment, we directly manipulated contextual diversity in a very ecological scenario: at school, when Grade 3 children were learning words in the classroom. The new words appeared in different contexts/topics (high-contextual diversity) or only in one of them (low-contextual diversity). Results showed that words encountered in different contexts were learned and remembered more effectively than those presented in redundant contexts. We discuss the practical (educational [e.g., curriculum design]) and theoretical (models of word recognition) implications of these findings.

El plasma es la ionización de un gas, que se puede encontrar en la naturaleza: estrellas, sol, auroras boreales, espacio interestelar; también de forma experimental en laboratorios: lámparas de gas fluorescente, una chispa de un corto circuito, arcos eléctricos, entre otros. El plasma tiene una infinidad de aplicaciones en diferentes áreas, como en medicina donde un ejemplo seria en la esterilización de instrumentos quirúrgicos, otro ejemplo seria en la industria automotriz aplicado en los chasis de los automóviles, que antes de ser pintados se les pasa por un tratamiento de plasma, esto con el fin de que tenga una mejor adhesión la pintura al chasis. Para poder tener estas aplicaciones del plasma antes mencionadas, fue el resultado de un proceso de investigación de mucho tiempo atrás, donde se tuvieron que realizar infinidad de pruebas, así como el desarrollo de infinidad de prototipos antes de tener elresultado deseado. Una aplicación del plasma que aún no se logra concretar y que se siguen realizando estudios sobre este rubro, es el de la aplicación del plasma para degradar gases contaminantes, gases como bióxido de carbono que hoy en día es unos de los principales gases que contaminan nuestro medio ambiente. Para la degradación del bióxido de carbono existen diversos prototipos de reactores para la generación de plasma y degradación de esos gases contaminantes, los prototipos son construidos y modificados con la idea de mejorar el desempeño y su funcionalidad, todo esto se logra con la ayuda de la simulación y desarrollo de prototipos en softwares especializados. Normalmente estos softwares especializados son utilizados en el diseño de dispositivos mecánicos, eléctrico, electrónicos, etc. y usualmente para simular el comportamiento de estos en sus diversas aplicaciones. La mayoría de estos softwares son de licencia privada, lo que quiere decir que requieren una licencia para poder hacer uso de estos, el costo por estas licencias es muy elevado, y varía dependiendo de la aplicación que se desea desarrollar. El software libre es un software que está al alcance de todo usuario, hablando de software libre existe una variedad de distribuciones GNU/Linux, como Fedora, Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc, mismas que cada una de estas distribuciones cuentan con diferentes softwares similares o con muchas mejoras en comparación a los de licencia privada, en este rubro no está exento el software científico. En este trabajo lo que se pretende es transmitirla información de la existencia de software libre, mostrar una aplicación científica con este, en este caso la aplicación de un software libre científico como Code Sartune 2.0.4 [1], para el desarrollo y simulación de un arco eléctrico en configuración de tres electrodos, utilizado para el desarrollo de un arco eléctrico en configuración de tres electrodos, el programa Code Saturne 2.0.4, trabaja con el método de volúmenes finitos

Capraria mexicana Moric. ex Benth. es reportada por primera vez para la porción mexicana de la Provincia Biótica Península de Yucatán. Además, se realizan comentarios generales sobre el género Capraria y se incluye una clave para identificar las tres especies que crecen en la región.

Marsilea vestita Hook. et Grev. var. vestita is reported for the first time from the Yucatan Peninsula Biotic Province. An overview of the family Marsileaceae in the region is presented. A key to the three species known for the area is provided, as well as habitat notes and a full description of the newly reported population of M. vestita var. vestita.

Antecedentes: El conocimiento florístico es una tarea progresiva, de acumulación periódica de datos y, en cierta manera, sin una fecha de conclusión obvia más allá de limitaciones programáticas o presupuestales. Este conocimiento se sintetiza básicamente en listados florísticos y floras. Los estudios taxonómicos de grupos particulares, conocidos tradicionalmente como revisiones, arrojan frecuentemente cambios en el conocimiento de la biodiversidad y deben ser incorporados periódicamente a los listados florísticos y floras. También la sistemática filogenética, en especial aquella basada en información derivada de análisis moleculares, ha producido cambios dramáticos en la forma en que entendemos las relaciones entre taxones y clasificamos la diversidad organísmica y requieren ser tomados en cuenta. No menos importantes son las novedades taxonómicas regionales y especies nuevas para la ciencia descritas a partir de material recolectado originalmente y/o exclusivamente en el área de interés, en este caso, la península de Yucatán Mexicana (PYM). Por último, como respuesta a nuevas evidencias, los sistemáticos cambiamos de opinión en relación a la circunscripción de un organismo en particular. o cometemos errores que deben ser corregidos. Este trabajo resume la tarea diaria de mantener actualizado el listado y conocimiento florístico de la PYM. Preguntas: ¿Cuántas especies de plantas vasculares crecen naturalmente en la PYM? ¿Cuáles taxones son endémicos? ¿Cuáles novedades para los listados florísticos han ocurrido desde la última publicación? ¿Con cuáles recursos humanos e infraestructura cuenta la PYM para llevar a cabo la tarea de entender y documentar la flora de la región? ¿Cuáles son los vacios de información geográficos y taxonómicos detectados? Especies estudiadas: Gimnospermas, helechos y grupos afines, Angiospermas. Sitio de estudio y fechas: La PYM está conformada por los estados de Campeche, Quintana Roo y Yucatán. Es la parte más septentrional de una unidad biogeográfica que se extiende al Petén en Guatemala y al norte de Belice (Distritos de Belice, Corozal y Orange Walk), conocida como Provincia Biótica Península de Yucatán (PBPY). Esta es una compilación de los avances de nuestro conocimiento durante los últimos ocho años (2010-2017) después de la publicación del Listado Florístico de la Flora Ilustrada de la Península de Yucatán (Carnevali et al. 2010), pero en muchos casos, incluye información prevía derivada de la revisión bibliográfica. Métodos: El trabajo consistió en la revisión de literatura botánica publicada en los últimos ocho años (2010-2017), así como de literatura más antigua (siglos XIX y XX), lo que permite completar una nueva sinopsis florística. Se realizó una evaluación de la infraestructura y los recursos humanos responsables de generar el conocimiento botánico en la PYM. Resultados: En la PYM se han registrado para la flora vascular 166 familias, 970 géneros, 2,314 especies de las cuales 99 se encuentran exclusivamente en Campeche, Quintana Roo y Yucatán, mientras que otras 85 extienden su distribución hasta el norte de Belice y Guatemala; por último, diez especies se distribuyen exclusivamente en el norte de Belice y Guatemala por lo que es posible su presencia en el sur de Campeche y Quintana Roo. La PYM cuenta con seis herbarios, aproximadamente140,000 colecciones botánicas y unos 20 profesionales locales dedicados al estudio de su flora. Estos investigadores concentran sus esfuerzos en el estudio de 15 familias de angiospermas. Cinco familias de las diez más diversas en especies (Asteraceae, Convolvulaceae, Fabaceae, Orchidaceae y Poaceae) cuentan con al menos un especialista local. Conclusión: La PYM es un área con una riqueza florística baja en comparación con otras áreas o unidades biogeográficas de México y del Neotrópico: incluye taxones equivalentes al 9.92 % de la flora total del país y sus endémicas, constituyen el 0.85 % de la flora endémica de México (1.58 % si se considera toda la PBPY). Este bajo número de especies en la PYM está determinado por su ubicación espacial, la homogeneidad fisiográfica, la ausencia de ríos, las temperaturas constantemente altas y la marcada estacionalidad de la precipitación. Sin lugar a dudas, una prolongada presencia humana en la región y un intenso desarrollo humano en los siglos XX y XXI, han jugado también un papel importante en la transformación de la cobertura vegetal y en los patrones de distribución de la flora en la región.
