Abstract Photocatalytic overall water splitting is a promising approach for a sustainable hydrogen provision using solar energy. For sufficient solar energy utilization, this reaction ought to be operated based on visible-light-active semiconductors, which is very challenging. In this work, an F-expedited nitridation strategy is applied to modify the wide-bandgap semiconductor Sr2TiO4 for visible-light-driven photocatalytic overall water splitting. Compared to the conventional nitridation approach, F-expedited nitridation introduces the desirable integration of a high concentration of N dopant for strong visible light absorption and a low concentration of defects (i.e. Ti3+ and oxygen vacancies) for effective separation of photocarriers. After being coated with Ti-oxyhydroxide protection layer and deposited with RhCrOy cocatalyst, the product from F-expedited nitridation can stably run photocatalytic overall water splitting with apparent quantum efficiency of 0.39% at 420 ± 20 nm and solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of 0.028%. These findings justify the effectiveness of F-expedited nitridation strategy and serve as a guidance to upgrade the photocatalytic activity of many other wide-bandgap semiconductors.

Background: Ensuring the rapidity and accuracy of emergency laboratory test results is especially important to save the lives of patients with acute and critical conditions. To better meet the needs of clinicians and patients, detection efficiency can be improved by reducing extra-laboratory sample turnaround times (TATs) through the use of innovative pneumatic tube system (PTS) transport for sample transport. However, concerns remain regarding the potential compromise of sample quality during PTS transit relative to that occurring with manual transportation. This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of an innovative PTS (Tempus600 PTS) relative to a traditional PTS in terms of sample transit time, sample quality, and the concordance of analytical results with those obtained from manually transported samples. Methods: In total, 30 healthy volunteers aged >18 years were recruited for this study, conducted for five consecutive days. Venous blood samples were collected from six volunteers per day at fixed timepoints. From each volunteer, nine blood samples were collected into tubes with tripotassium ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid anticoagulant, tubes with 3.2 % sodium citrate, and serum tubes with separation gel (n = 3 each) and subjected to all tests conducted in the emergency laboratory in our hospital. 270 blood samples from 30 healthy volunteers were transported and analyzed, yielding 6300 test results. The blood samples were divided randomly into three groups (each containing one tube of each type) and transported to the emergency laboratory manually and with Tempus600 PTS and conventional Swisslog PTS, respectively. The extra-laboratory TATs, sample quality, and test results of the transported blood samples were compared. Results: The sample quality and test results did not differ according to the delivery method. The TAT was much shorter with the Tempus600 than with the other two transport modes (58.40 ± 1.52 s vs. 1711.20 ± 77.56 s for manual delivery and 146.60 ± 1.82 s for the Swisslog PTS; P = 0.002). Conclusion: Blood sample transport with the Tempus600 PTS significantly reduced the extra-laboratory TAT without compromising sample quality or test result accuracy, thereby improving the efficiency of sample analysis and the services provided to clinicians and patients.

Abstract Background Cardiac myxoma (CM) is the most common (58%–80%) type of primary cardiac tumours. Currently, there is a need to develop medical therapies, especially for patients not physically suitable for surgeries. However, the mechanisms that shape the tumour microenvironment (TME) in CM remain largely unknown, which impedes the development of targeted therapies. Here, we aimed to dissect the TME in CM at single‐cell and spatial resolution. Methods We performed single‐cell transcriptomic sequencing and Visium CytAssist spatial transcriptomic (ST) assays on tumour samples from patients with CM. A comprehensive analysis was performed, including unsupervised clustering, RNA velocity, clonal substructure inference of tumour cells and cell–cell communication. Results Unsupervised clustering of 34 759 cells identified 12 clusters, which were assigned to endothelial cells (ECs), mesenchymal stroma cells (MSCs), and tumour‐infiltrating immune cells. Myxoma tumour cells were found to encompass two closely related phenotypic states, namely, EC‐like tumour cells (ETCs) and MSC‐like tumour cells (MTCs). According to RNA velocity, our findings suggest that ETCs may be directly differentiated from MTCs. The immune microenvironment of CM was found to contain multiple factors that promote immune suppression and evasion, underscoring the potential of using immunotherapies as a treatment option. Hyperactive signals sent primarily by tumour cells were identified, such as MDK, HGF, chemerin, and GDF15 signalling. Finally, the ST assay uncovered spatial features of the subclusters, proximal cell–cell communication, and clonal evolution of myxoma tumour cells. Conclusions Our study presents the first comprehensive characterisation of the TME in CM at both single‐cell and spatial resolution. Our study provides novel insight into the differentiation of myxoma tumour cells and advance our understanding of the TME in CM. Given the rarity of cardiac tumours, our study provides invaluable datasets and promotes the development of medical therapies for CM.

Abstract Background Knowledge on the pharmacodynamic effects of antiplatelet drugs including clopidogrel and ticagrelor on Asian patients is scarce. We aim to evaluate the effects of the two drugs on platelet reactivity in the treatment of Chinese patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), using two platelet function tests (PFT). Meanwhile, the relationship between mean platelet volume (MPV), a routine index of platelet size, and high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR) is also investigated. Methods Patients receiving dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) were scheduled for the assessment of platelet reactivity at 2–3 days after PCI. Two PFTs, light transmission aggregometry (LTA) and vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP)-FCM assay, were applied in the evaluation of platelet reactivity. The MPV was measured simultaneously with EDTA plasma using a Sysmex XN 2000 automated hematology analyzer. Results The final study population included the aspirin + clopidogrel group (n = 46) and the aspirin + ticagrelor group (n = 66). Halide perovskites have been emerging as promising photocatalytic materials for H2 evolution from water due to their outstanding photoelectric properties. However, the lack of proper surface reactive sites greatly hinders the photocatalytic potential of these fascinating compounds. Here, Mo2C nanoparticles have been anchored onto methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) as a nonnoble metal cocatalyst to promote H2 evolution reactions. The Mo2C nanoparticles have opposite zeta potential with MAPbI3 thereby electrostatically assembled onto the MAPbI3 surface, i.e., Mo2C@MAPbI3. Our results show that the anchored Mo2C nanoparticles have a strong interplay with MAPbI3 substrate so that photogenerated electrons of MAPbI3 can be rapidly separated and transferred into Mo2C for further H2 evolution reactions. Under optimal conditions, Mo2C@MAPbI3 delivers exceptionally high photocatalytic performance for visible light-driven H2 evolution that clearly outperforms pristine MAPbI3 and Pt-deposited MAPbI3. An apparent quantum efficiency as high as 12.65% at 600±40 nm has been attained for H2 evolution, surpassing most of the MAPbI3-based photocatalyst reported. These results signify the usefulness and applicability of Mo2C as a new nonnoble metal-based cocatalyst in solar water splitting.

This study sought to assess the value of multiparametric magnetic resonance image (mp-MRI) in patients with a prostate cancer (PCa) Gleason score of 6 or less under consideration for or already in active surveillance and to determine the rate of upgrading by target biopsy. Three hundred and fifty-four consecutive men with an initial transrectal ultrasound-guided (TRUS) biopsy-confirmed PCa Gleason score of 6 or less under clinical consideration for or already in active surveillance underwent mp-MRI and were retrospectively reviewed. One hundred and nineteen of 354 patients had cancer-suspicious regions (CSRs) at mp-MRI. Each CSR was assigned a Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) score based on PI-RADS v2. One hundred and eight of 119 patients underwent confirmatory imaging-guided biopsy for CSRs. Pathology results including Gleason score (GS) and percentage of specimens positive for PCa were recorded. Associations between PI-RADS scores and findings at target biopsy were evaluated using logistic regression. At target biopsy, 81 of 108 patients had PCa (75%). Among them, 77 patients had upgrading (22%, 77 of 354 patients). One hundred and forty-six CSRs in 108 patients had PI-RADS 3 n = 28, 4 n = 66, and 5 n = 52. The upgraded rate for each category of CSR was for PI-RADS 3 (5 of 28, 18%), 4 (47 of 66, 71%) and 5 (49 of 52, 94%). Using logistic regression analysis, differences in PI-RADS scores from 3 to 5 are significantly associated with the probability of disease upgrade (20%, 73%, and 96% for PI-RADS score of 3, 4, and 5, respectively). Adding mp-MRI to patients under consideration for or already in active surveillance helps to identify undiagnosed PCa of a higher GS or higher volume resulting in upgrading in 22%.

In this paper, a comparative study of the effectiveness of deep neural networks (DNNs) in the classification of pure and impure purees is conducted. Three different types of deep neural networks (DNNs)—the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), and the temporal convolutional network (TCN)—are employed for the detection of adulteration of strawberry purees. The Strawberry dataset, a time series spectroscopy dataset from the UCR time series classification repository, is utilized to evaluate the performance of different DNNs. Experimental results demonstrate that the TCN is able to obtain a higher classification accuracy than the GRU and LSTM. Moreover, the TCN achieves a new state-of-the-art classification accuracy on the Strawberry dataset. These results indicates the great potential of using the TCN for the detection of adulteration of fruit purees in the future.

The safety of the electromagnetic environment of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems is one of the prerequisites for the application of wireless charging technology for electric vehicles (EVs). The electromagnetic characteristics of a wireless charging EV with a new 7.7 kW WPT system were modeled and analyzed in this paper. Firstly, a complete model of the magnetic coupler was built as a source of electromagnetic radiation, and an external excitation source was added by coupling the resonant coils to the double inductor-capacitor-capacitor (LCC-LCC) topology circuit model. Secondly, the finite element analysis software COMSOL Multiphysics was used to solve for the magneto-quasistatic values to verify the electromagnetic safety of the wireless charging process. Then, two charging scenarios were investigated when the GA and VA aligned and misaligned, involving lateral offset and longitudinal offset cases. Finally, the simulation results were compared and analyzed, showing that the values of electromagnetic fields become higher as the offset distance increases. In worst-case scenarios, the highest magnetic flux density (1.1 µT) is observed in the virtual plane of the test on the left side of the vehicle, which occupies only 17.6% of the limits specified in ICNIRP 1998 (6.25 µT), indicating a good EMF safety performance of the wireless charging system. Aiming at the problems of long monitoring time, low reliability of monitoring results and insufficient data collection in traditional methods, an online monitoring system for heavy metal mercury in industrial wastewater based on ZigBee wireless network was designed. According to the overall architecture of the monitoring system, the hardware modules are divided into network coordinator structure, data management and maintenance module, distributed monitoring node module and coordinator node, etc., according to the connection between each module to achieve effective heavy metal mercury pollution in industrial wastewater monitor. Based on the hardware design, the source of heavy metal mercury pollution in industrial wastewater is located, and the BP neural network is used to monitor the total discharge of heavy metal mercury pollutants in industrial wastewater. The monitoring results are displayed on the main monitoring interface to facilitate visual inspection of pollution changes. The simulation experiment results show that the system designed in this paper has obvious advantages in the monitoring time, the accuracy of the monitoring results, and the method of collecting pollution data, indicating that the system has higher application value. Many of the current clinical screening methods for prostate cancer (PCa) such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing or transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy lack sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of PCa of the transition zone (TZ). Recent technical advances in multiparametric-MRI have markedly improved detection of PCa of the TZ. However, there are many diagnostic challenges that we still encounter in our daily practice that compromise the accuracy of the diagnosis. By performing both MRI-guided and ultrasound/MRI fusion-guided biopsies, we have gained extensive experience in the diagnosis of PCa of the TZ. Biopsy-proven examples including but not limited to typical and atypical PCa of the TZ as well as a wide variety of its mimics will be presented. Recognition of the MR features of typical and atypical PCa of the TZ and its mimics on multiparametric-MRI along with findings that help to differentiate these mimics from PCa is important in establishing an accurate diagnosis and in guiding clinical management. In 1999, the Chinese government implemented a higher education enrollment expansion policy to improve education equality. Now, its positive impact on educational equality is contested. This study attempts to identify the link between city administrative level and tertiary attainment in the context of the policy. Our empirical findings indicate that after implementation of the policy, inequality increased. Students from political and economic centers had more opportunities for tertiary education attainment. This policy has a greater impact on disparities in access to undergraduate education for individuals living in different administrative hierarchies than it does on specialist education.

Short-term auditory habituation is typically reflected by decreased but recoverable amplitudes of the N1 component of event-related potentials to repeated stimuli. It remains less well understood whether and how N1 habituation is modulated by the human cognition. The current study aims to further test for the potential modulatory roles of phonological information carried by spoken word-forms. Two phonological variables, namely lexicality (real versus pseudoword-form) and usage frequency (high versus low frequency), are considered and combined factorially, yielding four types of monosyllabic Mandarin spoken word-forms. Each type consists of 10 items (i.e., word-forms). The stimuli were passively presented to native Mandarin speakers in trains of five (S1–S5), while their EEG was recorded. The peak amplitudes of N1 to the same type of speech stimuli were calculated for each position by averaging the trains extracted from the EEG recording. Then, the N1 habituation was quantified for the two electrodes of interest (C3 and C4) in each repetitive presentation position (S2–S5). The results showed that the N1 habituation in low-frequency pseudo word-forms was consistently greater than in low-frequency real word-forms and high-frequency pseudo word-forms, respectively, at the fourth presentation (S4). The results suggest the first evidence that different types of phonological information (i.e., lexicality and usage frequency) modulate N1 habituation, interactively. Sensory filtering is proposed as a candidate mechanism for mediating between the processing of phonological information and the short-term habituation of auditory N1.

Biochemical recurrence after treatment for prostate cancer (PCa) is a significant issue. Early diagnosis of local recurrence is important for making prompt treatment decisions and is strongly associated with patient prognosis. Without salvage therapy, the average time from development of local recurrence to distant metastasis is approximately 3 years. Biochemical recurrence does not differentiate local recurrence from systemic disease; there is no reliable way to clinically diagnose local recurrence. Recent advances in multiparametric MRI (mp-MRI) techniques have markedly improved detection of local recurrence following therapy. However, a wide variety of entities can mimic recurrent PCa at mp-MRI. Therefore, the purpose of this pictorial review is to discuss the MRI findings of locally recurrent PCa and its mimics, emphasizing the key MRI features that help to differentiate local recurrence from its mimics. The floating zone growth of magneto-optical crystal YFeO3 has been investigated. The polycrystalline feed rod was prepared by a pressure of 250MPa and sintering at about 1500°C. A crack- free YFeO3 single crystal has been successfully grown. The crystal preferred to crystallize along <100> direction with about 10° deviation. The X-ray rocking curve of the crystal has a FWHM of 24 arcsec, confirming the high crystal quality of the sample. The (100) plane was etched by hot phosphoric acid and the dislocation density was about 104/cm2. A thin outer layer with Y2O3-rich composition was found at the periphery of as-grown crystals, which was attributed to the Fe2O3 evaporation during growth. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. To determine applicability of low-cost digital imaging for different radiographic modalities used in consultations from remote areas of the Ecuadorian rainforest with limited resources, both medical and financial. Low-cost digital imaging, consisting of hand-held digital cameras, was used for image capture at a remote location. Diagnostic radiographic images were captured in Ecuador by digital camera and transmitted to a password-protected File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, using standard Internet connectivity with standard security. After capture and subsequent transfer of images via lowbandwidth Internet connections, attending radiologists in the United States compared diagnoses to those from Ecuador to evaluate quality of image transfer. Corroborative diagnoses were obtained with the digital camera images for greater than 90% of the plain film and computed tomography studies. Ultrasound (U/S) studies demonstrated only 56% corroboration. Images of radiographs captured utilizing commercially available digital cameras can provide quality sufficient for expert consultation for many plain film studies for remote, underserved areas without access to advanced modalities.
