DOI: https://doi.org/10.26694/reufpi.v6i1.5841 OBJETIVO: verificar o perfil lipídico de estudantes universitários e a sua relação com outros fatores de risco cardiovascular. METODOLOGIA: Estudo descritivo, com 550 estudantes de uma universidade pública na cidade de Picos-PI, desenvolvido de janeiro a março de 2013, por meio de formulário e análise laboratorial de material sanguíneo. RESULTADOS: Dos estudantes, 5,8% apresentavam circunferência abdominal elevada e 20,4% excesso de peso. 1,3% e 18,9% estavam com a glicemia de jejum e triglicerídeos elevados, respectivamente; 64,5% apresentaram colesterol de alta densidade baixo e 8,7% níveis pressóricos limítrofes. A circunferência abdominal elevada esteve associada com valores alterados de triglicerídeos e colesterol de alta densidade. CONCLUSÃO: Estes resultados reforçam a assertiva de que há alta frequência de excesso de peso, de sedentarismo e de alterações no perfil lipídico dos universitários, onde glicemia, índice de massa corporal e circunferência abdominal estiveram associados a alterações lipídicas.

El objetivo fue evaluar los niveles de presión arterial en estudiantes y su relación con el nivel socioeconómico, estilo de vida y datos bioquímicos. Estudio descriptivo, transversal, desarrollado con 550 estudiantes de una universidad pública de Picos-PI, Brasil, en 2013. Se aplicó formulario con informaciones socioeconómicas, estilo de vida, medición de la circunferencia de la cintura, presión arterial, niveles de glucosa en suero en ayunas, triglicéridos y HDL-colesterol. The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices for the prevention of diabetic foot in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. This study was based on a cross-sectional survey conducted in two Family Health Units, in the city of Picos - PI, Brazil, with 85 diabetics of both sexes, by means of a semi-structured Knowledge, Attitude and Practice questionnaire. There was a predominance of females in the study (62.4%). On the topic of foot care, 49.4% had no knowledge on hygiene or what to observe in their feet. In relation to nail care, 56.5% were unaware of the correct way to cut nails. Regarding attitudes, 80% were willing to engage in self-care. In terms of practice, results showed that activities such as washing, drying, moisturizing and massaging were not executed together. It is therefore necessary to develop educational strategies to create awareness, both for diabetics and health professionals, on the effective prevention of diabetic foot.

Objective: to identify the association between the perception of body image and the adoption of preventive measures for sexually transmitted infections by female adolescents. Methods: descriptive research, with a sequential quantitative-qualitative mixed method, in three full-time schools located in socially vulnerable neighborhoods. Results: 147 female adolescents participated, with a mean age of 14. Body image dissatisfaction by the Silhouettes Scale and the Adolescent Dissatisfaction Rating Scale predominated. There was a lack of knowledge about the female condom and the correct handling of the male condom to prevent sexually transmitted infections. Conclusion: there was no significant association among the variables: body image perception, knowledge of preventive measures, and sexual behavior; however, it was evidenced a tendency of the adolescents dissatisfied with their body image perception to expose themselves to sexual conduct with more than one partner at the same time. Furthermore, the adolescents' body image dissatisfaction influenced their knowledge about the female condom, HIV, and family. Contributions to practice: the actions of health promotion and education for adolescent girls should consider factors that raise the perception of positive body image, from strategies that reinforce self-esteem and safe sexual conduct.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze, in the light of the social-ecological theory, the temporal progression of gestational syphilis and its relationship with the implementation of the rede cegonha in Ceará. Method: This is a retrospective documental study, based on the information system of notifiable diseases about gestational syphilis in the perspective of the social-ecological theory. The sample consisted of all notifications from the state of Ceará in the period from 2007 to 2017. Data collection was carried out in October 2019. Results: A total of 229,558 cases of gestational syphilis was reported in Brazil; of these, 7,040 were from the state of Ceará (3.1%), with a growing increase in cases over the years. Regarding the distribution of syphilis cases between the period before and after the implementation of the rede cegonha, there was an association with education (p < 0.0001), clinical classification (p < 0.0001), and gestational age (p = 0.0005). Conclusion: Despite the implementation of public policies and improvement of the epidemiological surveillance system, there is still a long way to go to control syphilis during pregnancy.

Objective: to analyze the association between high levels of stress and the frequency of cardiovascular risk factors in employees of a higher education institution. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study with 201 employees of a university. A form containing socioeconomic data, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short version), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and the Work Stress Scale were used for data collection. Data analysis was performed using the probability ratio and One-way analysis of variance tests. Results: worrisome frequencies of cardiovascular risk factors were identified, in which sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, and increased abdominal circumference presented the most expressive indexes. Regarding the stressors evaluated, some of the employees had increased stress indexes, distributed between the medium and high levels. Conclusion: sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, and increased abdominal circumference presented expressive high indexes, without statistically significant associations with the level of stress.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the knowledge of children and adolescents about risk factors for metabolic syndrome (MS) before and after educational interventions. Method: A quasi-experimental, comparative, prospective and intervention study conducted in 2015 and 2016 with 43 students in the city of Picos (state of Piauí-PI). Five health education meetings were held. For the knowledge analysis, was applied a questionnaire at three different moments. Results: Participants’ mean age was 12.6 years (± 2.1), of which 60.5% were female. The ‘More than good’ level of knowledge went from 20.9% to 55.8% after interventions. When evaluated late, students maintained a higher level of knowledge compared to before the interventions. Most said they were able to change their lifestyle after educational meetings. Conclusion: The educational intervention promoted increase of knowledge and stimulated changes in attitudes related to risk factors associated with MS.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.26694/2238-7234.7126-32 Objetivo: analisar a percepção das condições de trabalho e qualidade de vida de trabalhadores da limpeza pública. Metodologia: lança-se mão de uma abordagem quantitativa realizada com 105 trabalhadores da limpeza urbana de Picos-PI. A coleta de dados aconteceu em maio e junho de 2016, por meio de formulário contendo informações socioeconômicas, condições de trabalho e uso de equipamentos de proteção individual, além do questionário WHOQOL-bref. Resultados: constatou-se a predominância de trabalhadores jovens, homens, casados ou em união estável, classe econômica C. A maioria dos trabalhadores classificou sua Qualidade de Vida como boa. O domínio Ambiente, que se refere aos aspectos sociais, foi o que apresentou menor média e maior percentual de fracasso. Conclusão: os trabalhadores apresentaram um bom escore de sucesso na maioria dos domínios, mesmo em face à insalubridade do emprego e à remuneração de um salário mínimo. Porém, os achados ressaltam a importância de fortalecer ações que garantam os direitos sociais e de saúde desses trabalhadores.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.26694/reufpi.v5i2.5244 Objetivo: analisar a prevalência de sedentarismo e sua relação com alterações metabólicas em estudantes universitários de uma instituição de ensino superior do Piauí. Metodologia: trata-se de um estudo descritivo, transversal. A amostra foi de 550 estudantes, tendo dados socioeconômicos e de estilo de vida coletados por meio de formulário, além da mensuração da circunferência abdominal, índice de massa corpórea, pressão arterial e dosagens bioquímicas (triglicerídeos, colesterol-lipoproteína de alta densidade e glicose). Resultados: 66,2% eram do sexo feminino, 85,1% estavam na faixa etária entre 18 e 25 anos de idade, com média de idade de 22,6 anos, onde 71,7% foram classificados como sedentários. Entre os dados antropométricos analisados, 5,8 e 20,4% dos universitários estavam com circunferência abdominal e índice de massa corporal, respectivamente, elevados. 64,5% dos alunos apresentaram níveis de colesterol-lipoproteína de alta densidade abaixo do normal. Conclusão: em vista a esse cenário verifica-se a necessidade da realização de estratégias visando à promoção da saúde no âmbito universitário.
