This is a unique study in which a damped porous microplate's nonlinear vibration and response are analyzed semi-analytically using MSGT and HSDT under localized loading. The substrate is modeled using the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation. Partial differential equations are obtained using Hamilton's principle and solved by Galerkin's method. IHB and Newmark's methods are used to trace the nonlinear vibration and response. The results show that uniform porosity leads to lower stiffness compared to symmetric porosity distribution. Pasternak foundation parameter has a larger impact on stiffness compared to Winkler parameter. The effect of geometric nonlinearity is weakened while using MSGT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article uses the semi-analytical approach to study the combined nonlinear vibration and nonlinear response of a damped porous microplate under nonuniform periodic parametric excitation to understand the complete nonlinear dynamic behavior of the plate. The plate is supported by a Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation and modeled using modified strain gradient and third-order shear deformation theories to simulate the small-scale effects and shear deformation, respectively. Using Hamilton's principle, the governing partial differential equations of motion are derived and solved using Galerkin's method to convert them into ordinary differential equations (ODEs). These ODEs are solved using a combined incremental harmonic balance (IHB) and arc-length continuation approaches to get the nonlinear vibration (frequency–amplitude curves). The same ODEs are solved using the Newmark-β technique to obtain the nonlinear response (time–amplitude curves). The effect of elastic foundation parameters and aspect ratio on mode shape is presented. The effect of parameters such as the porosity coefficient, type of porosity, Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation parameters, different size-dependent theories, plate thickness, size of plate, damping coefficient, different loading profiles, and loading concentrations on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear response is examined. Also, the dependence of initial displacements on the frequency–amplitude curves with respect to the excitation frequency is demonstrated with the help of time-amplitude curves. A comprehensive butter fly survey was conducted with in the Udanti Wild Life Sanctuary (UWLS), Chhattisgarh, India. A total of 76 species of butterflies were observed across 10 study sites. Lycaenidae was the most prevalent family, with 27 species, closely followed by Nymphalidae with 24 species. Hesperiidae presented 14 species, Pieridae had 6 species, Papilionidae featured 4 species from a single genus, and the Riodinidae family included a single species. Notably, two previously unreported butterfly species in Chhattisgarh have been found in the present survey: Hyarotis adrastus, Tree Flitter and Pareronia ceylanica, Dark Wanderer. These findings represent new additions to the state's butterfly fauna of Chhattisgarh. This paper presents a semianalytical methodology for the nonlinear vibration of a functionally graded microplate under transverse patch loadings. The higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is combined with the modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) to model the microplate. The power-law function is used to model the functionally graded material. Hamilton's principle is used to obtain the governing partial differential equations of motion, which are then solved using Galerkin's method. The nonlinear free and forced vibration responses are obtained using the incremental harmonic balance (IHB) method, where the incremental part is performed using the arc-length continuation methods. The dependence of the steady-state amplitude on the amplitude of initial perturbation is studied using time history plots. These are plotted using the Newmark- β method. The effects of various parameters such as the power-law index, thickness of plate, thickness to material length scale parameter ratio, damping coefficient, different boundary conditions, and different positions of patch loading and its concentrations on the nonlinear free and forced vibration characteristics are examined in detail. Background: Diagnosing and treating oral cavity lesions is a challenging task for most of the clinicians due to similar symptoms and clinical appearances. Frequently, histopathology and immunohistochemistry aid in making the diagnosis. Objectives: The objectives were to describe the clinical features, and histopathological features and systemic association in patients with oral mucosal lesions (OML). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was undertaken at a tertiary care centre in patients with OML. A total of 369 cases with OML were included in the study. Results: Males constituted 61.78% of the cases. History of habits such as tobacco, gutka chewing, smoking, and alcohol was given by 32.25%, 29.81%, 26.56%, and 11.38% of cases, respectively. Common symptoms were soreness, burning sensation, oral pain and ulcers. Both oral and cutaneous involvement was seen in 17.89% of cases. Oral lichen planus (oral LP) constituted largest group of patients (21.96%) wherein reticulate type was the most frequent type and buccal mucosa was the commonest site. Oral carcinomas constituted 20.33% of cases followed by infective etiology (11.92%), vesiculobullous group of diseases (10.30%), aphthous stomatitis (8.94%), premalignant lesions (7.05%) such as leukoplakia (3.80%) and submucous fibrosis (2.44%). Histopathology was done in 209 cases. Clinico-histopathological correlation was seen in oral LP (90.27%), oral pemphigus (82.35%), and malignancies (98.66%). Conclusion: Oral LP formed the largest group of cases followed by Oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Several rare conditions, such as Melkersson–Rosenthal syndrome and blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome were also a part of the study. Background: Mild stroke has variable outcomes, and there is an ongoing debate regarding whether the administration of thrombolytics improves outcomes in this subgroup of stroke patients. Having a better understanding of the features of mild stroke may help identify patients who are at risk of poor outcomes. Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the association of clinical and imaging-based small vessel disease features (white matter hyperintensities and cerebral microbleeds) with stroke severity and clinical outcomes in patients with mild stroke. Methods: In this retrospective study, mild stroke was defined as a National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score <5. Clinical, laboratory and imaging data were compared between patients with mild stroke versus non-mild stroke (NIHSS≥5). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of mild stroke and poor discharge outcome. Results: Among 296 patients included in the study, 131 patients (44%) had mild stroke. On multivariate analysis, patients with mild stroke were three times more likely to have sensory symptoms [odds ratio (OR) = 2.9; 95% confidence interval (CI) = (1.2-6.8)] and four times more likely to have stroke due to small vessel disease (OR = 3.7; 95%CI = 1.4-9.9). Among patients with mild stroke, higher age (OR = 1.1; 95%CI = 1.02-1.1), presence of cerebral microbleed (OR = 4.5; 95%CI = 1.5-13.8), vertigo (OR = 7.3; 95%CI = 1.2-45.1) and weakness (OR = 5.0; 95%CI = 1.2-20.3) as presenting symptoms were more likely to have poor discharge outcome. Conclusion: Sensory symptoms and stroke due to small vessel disease are more common in mild stroke than non-mild stroke. Among patients with mild stroke, presence of cerebral microbleeds on imaging and symptoms of muscle weakness are associated with poor discharge outcome. Larger studies are needed to assess the impact of cerebral microbleed on mild stroke outcomes and risk stratify the benefit of thrombolytics in this group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interlinking rivers (ILRs) is a recent global initiative towards sustainable and equitable distribution and utilization of water resources. However, there are diverse, uncertain, and conflicting viewpoints of various water resource planning and management stakeholders towards ILR approach and its outcomes. On one hand, policy makers are seeing ILR as advantageous to the economic development of the nation; on the other hand, there is a growing concern about the negative environmental impacts of ILR. To ensure sustainable development, watershed planners across the globe need a decision support system (DSS) to effectively plan the implementation of ILR projects while considering the diverse stakeholder's perspectives and conflicting socio-economic, environmental, and several technical criteria. Therefore, it is essential to identify and mathematically evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of ILR projects to achieve economic and environmental objectives. It is indeed a challenge for watershed managers to simultaneously address the uncertainty associated with multiple criteria and group of decision-makers (stakeholders) involved in developing the SWOT model. To address these concerns, the present study proposes an advanced entropy-based SWOT fuzzy decision support system to evaluate the feasibility of ILR on a case study of 'Ken-Betwa project', India. The novel aspect of the advanced approach is its ability to devise seven hybrid mechanisms, which give the flexibility to reach the best solutions along with nominal, optimistic and pessimistic perspectives of the stakeholders while addressing uncertainty issues. Results demonstrate that adopting measures to minimize impact on biodiversity and climate change and implementation of sustainable construction techniques are pivotal for successful implementation of ILR project with a score of 0.12 and 0.11, respectively. The DSS provides a platform to the state and federal agencies to systematically achieve socio-economic and environmental objectives while incorporating suggestions of all decision-makers towards ILR projects. Objectives: Up to 10% of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients can die in the first 30 days. Older age and a higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score are associated with transition to comfort measures only (CMO) in AIS. There are insufficient data on specific stroke etiology, infarct location, or vascular territory for the association of AIS with the use of CMO. We therefore evaluated the clinical and imaging factors associated with utilization of CMO and their outcomes. Methods: AIS patients seen in an academic comprehensive stroke center in the United States between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016, were subgrouped based on the use of CMO orders (CMO vs. non-CMO) during hospitalization. Clinical, laboratory, and imaging data were analyzed. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed, adjusting for pertinent covariates. Results: The study consisted of 296 patients, 27 (9%) patients were transitioned to CMO. Compared with non-CMO patients, those with CMO were older (mean ± standard deviation: 66 ± 15 vs. 75 ± 11 years, p = 0.002). Hemorrhagic transformation of AIS was more likely in CMO (17% vs. 41%, p = 0.0030) compared with non-CMO patients. On multivariate analysis, severe stroke measured by the NIHSS score (odds ratio [OR] = 1.2; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.1–1.4), infarction of the insular cortex (OR = 12.9; 95% CI = 1.4–118.4), and presence of cerebral edema with herniation (OR = 9.4; 95% CI = 2.5–35.5) were associated with transition to CMO. Conclusions: The presence of severe stroke, infarction of the insular cortex, and cerebral edema with herniation were associated with utilization of CMO in AIS. We derive inequalities involving Ricci tensors, scalar curvature, squared mean curvatures for a null hypersurface with a closed rigging of a Lorentzian space form and for a screen homothetic null hypersurface of a Lorentzian manifold. This study was undertaken to understand the extent and nature of problems in x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data reported in the literature. It first presents an assessment of the XPS data in three high-quality journals over a six-month period. This analysis of 409 publications showing XPS spectra provides insight into how XPS is being used, identifies the common mistakes or errors in XPS analysis, and reveals which elements are most commonly analyzed. More than 65% of the 409 papers showed fitting of XP spectra. An ad hoc group (herein identified as "the committee") of experienced XPS analysts reviewed these spectra and found that peak fitting was a common source of significant errors. The papers were ranked based on the perceived seriousness of the errors, which ranged from minor to major. Major errors, which, in the opinion of the ad hoc committee, can render the interpretation of the data meaningless, occurred when fitting protocols ignored underlying physics and chemistry or contained major errors in the analysis. Consistent with other materials analysis data, ca. 30% of the XPS data or analysis was identified as having major errors. Out of the publications with fitted spectra, ca. 40% had major errors. The most common elements analyzed by XPS in the papers sampled and researched at an online database, include carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and titanium. A scrutiny of the papers showing carbon and oxygen XPS spectra revealed the classes of materials being studied and the extent of problems in these analyses. As might be expected, C 1s and O 1s analyses are most often performed on sp2-type materials and inorganic oxides, respectively. These findings have helped focus a series of XPS guides and tutorials that deal with common analysis issues. The extent of problematic data is larger than the authors had expected. Quantification of the problem, examination of some of the common problem areas, and the development of targeted guides and tutorials may provide both the motivation and resources that enable the community to improve the overall quality and reliability of XPS analysis reported in the literature.
