Aims Considering the importance of medical waste recognition by health centers staffs and its role on maintenance and improvement of social and environmental health, this study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practices of hospital staffs regarding to medical waste management. Instrument & Methods The current descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional research was carried out on the staffs of the Ayatollah Rohani Hospital of Babol City, Iran, in 2013. 130 employees were selected by stratified sampling method. A researcher-made questionnaire (accessible as an attachment) containing 4 parts of demographic information, knowledge (15 questions), attitude (6 questions) and practices (6 questions) was used for data gathering. The data was analyzed by SPSS 17 software using Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. Findings The participants mean scores of knowledge, attitude, and practice were 10.7±1.6 (out of 15), 5.5±0.8 (out of 6), and 4.5±1.5 (out of 6), respectively. 12% (16 people) of the participants had low, 72% (93 people) of the participants had medium, and 16% (21 people) of them had high knowledge toward hospital waste management. 16% (21 people) of the participants had medium and 84% (109 people) of them had high attitude toward hospital waste management. 4% (5 people), 46% (60 people) and 50% (65 people) of the participants had low, medium and high practice, respectively. Conclusion The level of knowledge, attitude and practice of the Ayatollah Rohani Hospital of Babol City, Iran, regarding hospital waste management is acceptable.

Various garlic nutrients bring about several health benefits. Allicin, the major bioactive component of garlic, has anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, cardiovascularpreventive, and cholesterol-reducing effects. Using water as the solvent, the ultrasoundassisted extraction of garlic compounds was optimized through Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The process was conducted at different times (10{30 min), temperatures (30{60ffiC), frequencies (37 and 80 Hz), and powers (40{100 W). The obtained extracts were assessed for 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, Total Phenolic Content (TPC), and extraction efficiency. The optimal conditions were 10 min, 30°C, 37 Hz, and 40 W (R² = 0:93 for the DPPH assay, R² = 0:99 for the TPC, and R² = 0:94 for the extraction efficiency). Sonication time and temperature most affected the responses. In conclusion, ultrasound could be easily utilized for the extraction, because it accelerated the process and lowered the extraction time, which enhanced the extract quality with regard to antioxidant properties and the likelihood of extracting heat-sensitive substances. Background and Objectives: The level of knowledge and attitude of students has an effective role in improving nutritional status and food security. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the knowledge and attitude of engineering and technical sciences students regarding health and safety of food. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 100 students of engineering and technical sciences in Babol. To collect data, a questionnaire including three sections of demographic information, knowledge and attitude regarding health and food safety was used. Data analysis was performed using chi-square statistical test. Results: In general, the results indicated that 27% of students had good knowledge, and 26% had a good attitude towards food safety and health. Conclusion: According to the results, the attitude of most students was weak and moderate. Therefore, it is suggested that workshops or food health curriculum to be held for engineering and technical sciences students. In the present study, the performance of the vorticity confinement method has been improved by combining it with the vortex feature detection methods. In the conventional vorticity confinement method, the only parameter to apply or not to apply vorticity confinement is the non-zero value of vorticity. On the other hand, the presence of vorticity in some cases, like the boundary layer and the shear layer flows, does not imply the presence of vortices. Applying the vorticity confinement at these points can lead to errors, in addition to loss of solution time. In order to solve this problem, using the combination of vorticity confinement method and four methods of vortex feature detection (non-dimensional Q, non-dimensional λ2, non-dimensional modified Δ, and the S − Ω correlation) the vorticity confinement term is applied only in vortex regions. In order to investigate the effects of this combination, the compressible Euler equation has been investigated for the problem of two-dimensional stationary single vortex at Mach number 0.5. The results indicate significant positive effects in reducing the solving time, decreasing the sensitivity of the solution to the amount of confinement parameter and significant elimination of the oscillation. Background and Objectives: Entrepreneurship is the process of creating a new thing by assigning time and effort along with accepting financial, physical and social risks with receiving the results of monetary rewards, personal satisfaction, and independence. In developing countries such as Iran, gaining competitive advantage and solving public problems like unemployment are bound to develop entrepreneurship. This study aimed to determine the entrepreneurship abilities in environmental health graduates of Mazandaran. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out in 2017 using a valid and reliable questionnaire including 74 items on a 4-point Likert scale. Sampling was done among 85 graduates of environmental health in Mazandaran province in convenience method. Data were analyzed by Pearson and t-test. Results: Among the subjects, there were 49 (57.6%) women and 72 (84.7%) BSc graduates, and 32 (37.6%) persons had temporary occupations. Ten persons (11.7%) had experienced the launch of an independent business, but only two people were able to continue business. In the components of entrepreneurship 70 persons (82.3%), independence 81 persons (95.2%), and creativity 79 persons (92.9%) were weak. There was a significant relationship between entrepreneurial ability in the two sexes, it was high in men (p= 0.012). Conclusion: Graduates were weak in entrepreneurship. Therefore, it is necessary to plan and pay attention to enhancing the entrepreneurship capability in educational programs and educational assistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Acquiring meaning in life is one of the effective factors in psychological problems and disorders. The purpose of this research was investigating discriminative and constructs validity of Meaning in Life Questionnaire. Method: 296 students at university of Tarbiat Moallem in Azarbayjan, Iran took part in this study. Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) were used for data collection. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to ensure construct validity, and a hierarchical discriminative function analysis was used for discriminative validity analysis. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis resulted in a related two-factor model with acceptable fitness indices. The MLQ also showed a high ability in discriminating healthy individuals. Nevertheless, the instrument did not have an adequate accuracy in screening people at risk with regard to an initial grouping based on scores of GHQ. The findings also showed that females had a higher mean score in MLQ in comparison with male participants. Conclusion: The construct validity of MLQ is acceptable for a sample of Iranian students though its discriminative validity was much more accurate in diagnosing healthy individuals than people at risk. A 2-D steady-state mathematical model of a tubular solid oxide fuel cell with indirect internal reforming (IIR-SOFC) has been developed to examine the chemical and electrochemical processes and the effect of different operating parameters on the cell performance. The conservation equations for energy, mass, momentum as well as the electrochemical equations are solved simultaneously employing numerical techniques. A co-flow configuration is considered for gas streams in the air and fuel channels. The heat radiation between the preheater and reformer surface is incorporated into the model and local heat transfer coefficients are determined throughout the channels. The model predictions have been compared with the data available in the literature. The model was used to study the effect of various operating conditions on the cell performance. Numerical results indicate that as the cell operating pressure increases, the reforming reaction extends to a larger portion of the cell and the maximum temperature move away from the cell inlet. As a result, a more uniform temperature prevails in the solid structure which reduces thermal stresses. In the present study a two-dimensional model of a tubular solid oxide fuel cell operating in a stack is presented. The model analyzes electrochemistry, momentum, heat and mass transfers inside the cell. Internal steam reforming of the reformed natural gas is considered for hydrogen production and Gibbs energy minimization method is used to calculate the fuel equilibrium species concentrations. The conservation equations for energy, mass, momentum and voltage are solved simultaneously using appropriate numerical techniques. The heat radiation between the preheater and cathode surface is incorporated into the model and local heat transfer coefficients are determined throughout the anode and cathode channels. The developed model has been compared with the experimental and numerical data available in literature. The model is used to study the effect of various operating parameters such as excess air, operating pressure and air inlet temperature and the results are discussed in detail. The results show that a more uniform temperature distribution can be achieved along the cell at higher air-flow rates and operating pressures and the cell output voltage is enhanced. Background: Valproic acid (VPA) is used to treat various neurological and psychiatric conditions. While oral VPA can cause hair loss, topical application has shown potential for hair regeneration. This study aimed to develop and evaluate microemulsion (ME) formulations of VPA for enhanced transfollicular delivery., Methods: VPA-loaded MEs were prepared using oleic acid, Transcutol P, Tween 80, Labrasol, and Capryol 90. The MEs were characterized for physicochemical properties, stability, in vitro release, and ex vivo permeation through the hairy abdominal and nonhairy ear skin of guinea pigs., Results: Eight stable ME formulations were developed with droplet sizes ranging from 10 to 24 nm, pH 4.6 to 5.2, and viscosity 77 to 85 cps. In vitro release studies showed controlled release profiles over 24 h. Permeation studies revealed enhanced drug delivery through both follicular and nonfollicular pathways compared with aqueous VPA solution. Formulations with higher surfactant/cosurfactant ratios showed increased permeation through the follicular pathway., Conclusion: The ME formulations significantly enhanced VPA penetration into both epidermal and follicular pathways compared with aqueous solution. Over the years, concentrated efforts have been directed toward the improvement of desirable characteristics and attributes in peanut butter. This study examined the effect of rheological, antioxidant and qualitative characteristics of optimum peanut butter (including date paste and lecitin) during shelf-life. The results showed that the presence of date paste along with lecithin in optimum peanut butter improved the overall characteristics of peanut butter, including the physicochemical, microbial, mechanical, and sensory properties, compared to the control. Moreover, shelf-life had the most effect on reducing the emulsion stability, cohesiveness, antioxidant properties, and overall acceptance. In addition, the flow behavior of the emulsions was examined through the Herschel-Bulkley model using the parameters of determination coefficient, R 2 , flow behavior index, n, and consistency coefficient, K (Pa.s n ). The presence of date paste in enriched peanut butter results in the creation of a colloidal structure among the peanut particles. Due to concern regarding the consumption of high amount of sugar in diet and role of diet in combating overweigh and related disease, the aim of present study was to optimize a reduced calorie probiotic chocolate milk formula with suitable physicochemical properties. The formula comprising inulin, stevia ( Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni), chia ( Salvia hispanica L.) seed gum (CSG), and whey protein concentrate (WPC) which optimized using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and then enriched with an encapsulated probiotic strain Lactobacillus acidophilus (DSM1643). The independent variables included inulin (2-8%), CSG (0.1-0.5 %), stevia (50-100 % replacement of sugar), and WPC (1-3%). The dependent variables were selected as viscosity, average particle size, sedimentation percentage, and general acceptance. Optimization done toward achieving the highest viscosity and general acceptance and the lowest sedimentation percentage and average particle size. The optimal conditions were found to be 7.99 % inulin, 70 % stevia, 0.34 % CSG, and 1 % WPC. Under these conditions, the viscosity, sedimentation percentage, average particle size, and general acceptance of the product were equal to 40.69 mPa s, 2.2 %, 434.221 nm, and 5.1, respectively. Next, the chocolate milk was enriched with at 10 9  CFU/g probiotic bacteria and evaluated. The probiotic strain was resistant to simulated gastrointestinal conditions and under this condition the free bacterial cells count declined by 8 logCFU/g while the encapsulated cells decreased approximate 3 logCFU/g. The bacteria count did not undergo a significant change until the 5th day of storage. The results showed that the inulin, stevia, CSG, and WPC at optimal concentrations and encapsulated probiotic bacteria could be simultaneously applied to produce a product with good properties. Background: In spite of the scientific evidence supporting health advantages of mushrooms, some of them are seriously poisonous. The clinical picture of mushroom intoxication ranges from minor gastrointestinal symptoms to organ failure, such as liver failure and death., Method: We provided demographics, clinicopathological characteristics, applied treatments, and outcomes of mushroom poisoning by Lepiota species in a series of 18 cases that were referred from Kermanshah and Lorestan provinces to Abu-Ali-Sina Hospital, Shiraz, Iran. Clinical and paraclinical data were collected by taking history and reviewing of medical documents. Pathologic findings were extracted through a review of hematoxylin and eosin pathologic slides., Results: The patients were between the ages of 18 and 67 years, composed of ten females and eight males. The most frequent clinical manifestations were nausea and vomiting followed by abdominal pain. Four cases presented decreased consciousness on admission. One of them passed away. Three other cases underwent liver transplantation, two of them died after transplantation, and one fully recovered without any major issues. All instances had elevated ALT levels, which ranged from 44 to 9,140 IU/L (mean: 3259 ± 2476), with most of them also having concurrent AST elevations (mean: 1,361 ± 1,532). Only few patients had modest elevations in alkaline phosphatase. Total and direct bilirubin elevations up to 47.6 and 24 mg/dL, respectively, were found in most cases. Decreased total protein and albumin concentrations and increased BUN and creatinine levels were observed in some patients. In addition, some instances revealed increased LDH, increased WBC, decreased hemoglobin, and decreased platelet count. Most patients had increased prothrombin time; hematuria and positive stool occult blood were observed in few patients. Histopathologic examination of three explanted livers revealed massive necrosis with moderate to severe macrovesicular steatosis, significant ductular reaction, and parenchymal inflammation. Other patients followed a recovery process with a considerable drop in liver enzymes, especially ALT, during hospitalization utilizing conservative treatment. They had no liver problems or relevant issues after a two-year follow-up., Conclusion: In our study, highly elevated liver enzymes with a significantly high ALT/AST ratio were observed in cases of mushroom poisoning by Lepiota species, leading to fulminant liver failure and death in some cases. In this study, watermelon seeds ( Citrullus lanatus ) protein hydrolyzed (WSPH) was produced using microbial enzymes Alcalase and Protamex. Then, the effect of different concentrations of WSPH (0, 1, 2, and 3%) on the quality of the silver carp ( Hypophthalmichthys molitrix ) burger during refrigerated storage (4 ± 1 °C) was investigated. According to the results, WSPH by alcalase had significantly higher degree of hydrolysis and antioxidant activity (p < 0.05) and it was used for burger tests. The results showed that, the addition of WSPH was able to reduce the microbial, chemical spoilage and sensory score during 16 days compared to the control, and with increasing the concentration of WSPH, better results were observed (p < 0.05). Background: Since Shiraz Transplant Center is one of the major transplant centers in Iran and the Middle East, this study was conducted to evaluate outcomes of the applied policies on COVID-19 detection and management., Methods: During 4 months from March to June 2020, patient's data diagnosed with the impression of COVID-19 were extracted and evaluated based on demographic and clinical features, along with the length of hospital stay and expenses., Results: Our data demonstrated that a total of 190 individuals, with a median age of 58, were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the mentioned period. Among these, 21 patients had a positive PCR test and 56 patients had clinical symptoms in favor of COVID-19. Also, 113 (59%) patients were classified as mild based on clinical evidence and were treated on an outpatient basis. Furthermore, 81 out of 450 cases (18%) of the healthcare workers at our center had either PCR of clinical features in favor of COVID-19. The mortality rate of our study was 11% and diabetes mellitus, hypertension were considered risk factors for obtaining COVID-19 infection. The direct cost of treatment and management of patients with COVID-19 amounted to 2,067,730,919 IRR, which considering the 77 patients admitted to Gary Zone per capita direct cost of treatment each patient was 26,853,648 IRR., Conclusion: We demonstrated that the COVID-19 pandemic had a noticeable influence on our transplant center in aspects of delaying surgery and increased hospital costs and burden. However, by implanting proper protocols, we were able to was able to provide early detection for COVID-19 and apply necessary treatment and prevention protocols to safeguard the patients under its coverage, especially immunocompromised patients., (© 2023. Veterinary medical schools are tasked with not only providing experiences necessary to graduate veterinarians proficient in the skills and knowledge used most frequently in private practice, but also develop expertise in animal behavior, welfare, ethics, veterinary forensics, and cultural competency. Integrating all these knowledge areas into the curriculum can be challenging. Shelter medicine is increasingly identified by educators as an optimal learning environment to offer exposure to these topics. It can not only meet learning objectives in veterinary medical curriculum, but also provide students with authentic learning experiences to engage in and gain a deeper understanding of cultural humility, implicit bias, diversity, and inclusion. This includes documentation of international learning outcomes for shelter medicine in veterinary medical curriculum. There have been no studies evaluating authentic learning experiences specific to shelter medicine programs and their impacts on students. The aim of this study was to determine the individual activities and thematic categories on which veterinary students chose to reflect on and their potential impacts during a clinical rotation in shelter medicine at Penn Vet through qualitative content analysis of their journal entries. In our study, students found experiences on the shelter medicine rotation to be beneficial to their growth as a future veterinarian, provided them with takeaways that they found applicable and practical, helped them self-identify knowledge gaps, and changed their perspectives on several important topics related to collective human and animal welfare. These results speak to the value perceived by students of the rotation and suggest an authentic learning experience through a shelter medicine program can help cultivate more practice-ready and culturally competent veterinary graduates., Competing Interests: CR and BW were course organizers for the shelter medicine rotation. There has been interest in the use of plant extract as a natural preservative agent for improving the oxidative stability of vegetable oils. However, plant extracts have low stability against heat and environmental stress. In this study, the antioxidant potential of nano- and microencapsulated Rosmarinus officinalis L. extract (RE) obtained using the ultrasonication method was measured. The total phenolic and flavonoid content of the extract was 174.4 ± 25.9 mg gallic acid/g extract and 78.30 ± 3.2 mg rutin/g extract, respectively. Antioxidant activity of 50, 100, 200, and 400 ppm of RE was measured by DPPH free radical scavenging methods, ferric reduction assay, and β-carotene/linoleic acid assay, and then compared to the 100 ppm of TBHQ as a common synthetic antioxidant. The results showed that the antioxidant activity increased with increasing the concentration of the extract in all evaluating methods. The antioxidant activity of 200 ppm of the free and encapsulated extract in cress ( Lepidium sativum ) and basil ( Ocimum basilicum ) seed gums at different ratios (1:0, 1:1, and 0:1) was compared to sunflower oil without antioxidants, and oil-containing TBHQ which was stored at 60°C for 24 days. The oxidation indexes of oil samples include peroxide value, thiobarbituric acid value, and p -anisidine value measured at 4-day intervals. A lower oil oxidation was observed in oil-containing nanoencapsulated extract followed by microencapsulated extract, free extract, and TBHQ. Since producing nanoencapsulated RE requires a higher time and speed of homogenization and due to no statistically significant difference between the antioxidant properties of nanocapsules and microcapsules in oil, the use of microcapsules of RE in basil seed gum to increase the shelf life of sunflower oil is recommended., (© 2022 The Authors. Background: Cupressus arizonica Greene is a coniferous tree with great importance in fragrance and pharmaceutical industries. Essential oils from C. arizonica (EC) have shown potential antioxidant, and anti-microbial activities. This study aimed at investigating the anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects/mechanisms of EC., Methods: The EC was evaluated for anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities on male Wistar rats using a formalin test and carrageenan-induced paw edema, respectively. Also, we pre-treated some of the animals with naloxone and flumazenil in the formalin test to find out the possible contributions of opioid and benzodiazepine receptors to EC anti-nociceptive effects. Finally, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis was used to identify the EC's constituents., Results: EC in intraperitoneal doses of 0.5 and 1 g/kg significantly decrease the nociceptive responses in both early and late phases of the formalin test. From a mechanistic point of view, flumazenil administration 20 minutes before the most effective dose of EC (1 g/kg) showed a meaningful reduction in the associated antinociceptive responses during the early and late phases of the formalin test. Naloxone also reduced the anti-nociceptive role of EC in the late phase. Furthermore, EC at the doses of 1, 0.5, and 0.25 g/kg significantly reduced paw edema from 0.5 hours after carrageenan injection to 4 hours. GC/MS analysis showed that isolated EC is a monoterpene-rich oil with the major presence of α-pinene (71.92%), myrcene (6.37%), δ-3-carene (4.68%), β-pinene (3.71%), and limonene (3.34%)., Conclusions: EC showed potent anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities with the relative involvement of opioid and benzodiazepine receptors.

Chicken fillet is a suitable medium for growth and activity of different types of microorganisms. The pH and nutrients content of fillets are the most important factors in their microbial spoilage and degradation during cold storage at the retail level. In this regard, the uses of edible coatings containing antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds are effective approaches to maintain the quality of fillets. In this study the inhibitory effect of edible coating materials based on chia seed mucilage containing 0.00%, 0.25% and 0.50% zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on microbial growth and chemical spoilage as well as enhancing shelf life of chicken fillets during refrigerated storage for 20 days was investigated. The results of X-Ray diffraction confirmed the dispersion of ZnO-NPs on the chia seed mucilage matrix. Also, the number of total aerobic mesophilic and psychrophilic bacteria, coliforms and lactic acid bacteria, and the pH, total volatile nitrogen, peroxide and free fatty acids indexes in the control fillets were significantly increased compared to the fillets coated with chia seed mucilage during storage. While, in the samples coated with chia mucilage containing ZnO-NPs the number of the above-mentioned bacteria decreased in the first stage and then significantly increased during storing. Background: The management of COVID-19 in organ transplant recipients is among the most imperative, yet less discussed, issues based on their immunocompromised status along with their vast post-transplant medication regimens. No conclusive study has been published to evaluate proper anti-viral and immunomodulator medications effect in treating COVID-19 patients to this date., Method: This retrospective study was conducted in Shiraz Transplant Hospital, Iran from March 2020 to May 2021 and included COVID-19 diagnosed patients based on SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR positive test who had been hospitalized for at least 48 h before enrolling in the study. Clinical and demographic information of patients, along with their treatment course and the medication used were evaluated and analyzed using multiple regression analysis., Results: A total of 245 patients with a mean age of 49.59 years were included with a mortality rate of 8.16%. The administration of Remdesivir as an anti-viral drug (P value < 0.001) and Tocilizumab as an immunomodulator drug (P value < 0.001) could reduce the hospitalization period in the hospital and the intensive care unit, as well as the mortality rates significantly. Meanwhile, the patients treated with Lopinavir/Ritonavir experienced a lower chance of survival (OR < 1, P value = 0.04). No significant difference was observed between various therapeutic regimens in clinical complications such as bacterial coinfections, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal adverse reactions, and liver or kidney dysfunctions., Conclusion: The administration of Remdesivir as an anti-viral and Tocilizumab as an immunomodulatory drug in solid-organ transplant recipients could be promising treatments of choice to manage COVID-19., (© 2021. Background: Iran is one of the developing countries and foodborne diseases commonly impose problems for public health, the health care system and the economy. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the chemical and microbial quality of food in northern Iran., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2019. This study was performed on food samples obtained in a straightforward way while visiting food preparation and distribution centers in Babol. Tests related to different food types were performed by laboratory experts. Data collection with a checklist: date and place of sampling, number of samples, type of food, type of test, compliance of results with standards. Data were analyzed by SPSS 22 and descriptive statistics, Chi-square and t-test., Results: 1043 food samples were tested from 5 groups of dairy products, protein, cereals, vegetables and other food groups. The highest number of samples in the cereal group was 767 samples (73.53%). In the cereal group, most samples were breads. The pH of 11.67% of breads and the salt in 21.49% of breads did not match the standard. The blankit (sodium hydrosulfite) on bread dough were negative. Moisture, gluten, ash and pH match with the standards in all flour samples. The results of microbial tests on sweets and ice cream showed that Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella were negative. Enterobacter aerogenes was positive in 8.20% of sweets, mold and yeast were positive in 19.58%. The results of microbial tests on buttermilk and yogurt, grilled meat and chicken sandwiches, vegetables and salads showed that bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and all microorganisms were negative. Mold tests were positive in 11.12% of juice samples., Conclusions: The results showed that the foods and drinks supplied in food and drink preparation and distribution centers in Babol in 2019 were of good chemical and microbial quality. In some food groups the results of microbial and chemical testings were negative, i.e. without contamination. Less than 20% of products in the group of cereals and protein products did not match with the standards, which is a satisfactory result compared to other studies conducted in different cities of Iran. Background: Serious conditions caused by the coronavirus epidemic are expected to affect the mental and physical health, organizational and social commitments of healthcare workers. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the organizational and social commitments and related factors during the coronavirus pandemic of healthcare workers in northern Iran., Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2020 among 260 healthcare workers of Babol health centers by a stratified-random sampling method. Data were collected according to a valid and reliable questionnaire consisting of three parts: 8 questions about personal and job characteristics, 15 questions from Porter Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), 15 questions from Carroll's social responsibility. Each question was scored on the Likert scale of organizational and social commitment questionnaires. Data were analyzed by chi-square and logistic regression. P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant., Results: None of the healthcare workers belonged to the category of low organizational commitments. A portion of 27.7% of the healthcare workers had moderate organizational commitments and 72.3% had high organizational commitments. A portion of 9.2% of the healthcare workers had moderate social commitments and 90.8% had high social commitments. Chi-square showed that education (p = 0.001), job position (p = 0.001) and the area in which healthcare workers were present for service (p = 0.002) were significantly associated with organizational commitments. According to OR in the logistic regression model, healthcare workers with master's and doctoral education levels had 3.482 times more social commitments than others and the health group had 2.455 times more social commitments compared to the treatment group., Conclusion: The results of this study showed that at the time of the coronavirus outbreak, the healthcare workers in Babol had very positive and high organizational and social commitments. As the world struggles with the coronavirus pandemic, employee and organizational productivity may decline due to the fear and anxiety of healthcare workers in various organizations. It is expected that managers of health-related organizations, social, economic, and cultural organizations use the results of this study to identify factors affecting the organizational and social commitments of employees and strengthen them.

Introduction: We investigated the effects of zerumbone (1 and 10 mg/kg) against hyperactivity, anxiety and memory impairment in scopolamine-induced dementia in Sprague-Dawley rats., Methods: Open field tests, elevated plus maze and Morris water maze were performed to assess general locomotor activity, anxiety-like behaviours and learning and memory processes respectively in rats pretreated with scopolamine., Results: Scopolamine-treated rats showed high total activity, stereotype, and total distance travelled in the open field arena, reduced number of entries to open arms, decreased the percentage of time spent in open arms and higher escape latency time in the Morris water maze test. Interestingly, single administration of zerumbone (1 and 10 mg/kg) reversed the hyperactivity, anxiety-like behaviours, and learning impairment effects of scopolamine in the three experimental model studied respectively., Discussion: Our findings demonstrated that the scopolamine-induced impairment of learning and memory was reversed by the administration of zerumbone. As a conclusion, our findings presented the positive effects of zerumbone on dementia-like behaviours in the animal model used and could possibly contribute for future research to manage hyperactivity, anxiety, and learning disabilities., (© 2019 The Authors.)

In order to reduce the economic and environmental consequences caused by spent car catalyst, we herein report for the first time a novel promising multi-metal catalyst prepared from spent car catalytic converters to upgrade the pyrolysis bio-oils. The physico-chemical properties of prepared catalyst were characterized by XRD, EDS, FESEM, and FT-IR analyses. The thermal stability of the multi-metal catalyst was studied with TGA. To investigate the activity of the catalyst, Conversion of Cladophora glomerata (C. glomerata) into bio-products was carried out via a fixed bed reactor with and without catalyst at the temperature of 500°C. Although the catalyst didn't catalyze the gasification reaction, bio-oil was upgraded over the catalyst. The main effect of the catalyst on the bio-oil components is deoxygenating of nitrogen compounds and promotion the ketonization reaction, which converts acid to ketone and declines the corrosive nature of bio-oil., (Copyright © 2017. Conversion of Gracilaria gracilis (G. gracilis) into bio-products was carried out via pyrolysis at different temperatures to determine its potential for phenol-rich bio-oil. Co-Mo supported on zeolites (HZSM-5), mesoporous (HMS) catalysts and their composites (ZH) were investigated and compared to each other on catalytic pyrolysis processes. In non-catalytic tests, the maximum weight percentage of bio-oil was 42wt% at 500°C and had the maximum amount of phenol (6.28wt%). in the catalytic tests by ZH composites; the addition of zeolite content in the structure of composites significantly decreased total concentrations of acetic acid and formic acid from 9.56 to 8.12wt% and slightly decreased phenol and furfural concentrations from 6.65 and 6.98 to 5.88 and 5.49wt%, respectively. Furthermore, the best selectivity for hydrogen yield (6.08mmol/g macroalgae) and lowest amount of acetic acid (5.4wt%) was observed for CoMo/ZH-20 catalyst, that is synthesized by 20wt% of zeolite., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Conversion of Cladophora glomerata (C. glomerata) as a Caspian Sea's green macroalgae into gaseous, liquid and solid products was carried out via pyrolysis at different temperatures to determine its potential for bio-oil and hydrogen-rich gas production for further industrial utilization. Non-catalytic tests were performed to determine the optimum condition for bio-oil production. The highest portion of bio-oil was retrieved at 500°C. The catalytic test was performed using the bio-char derived at 500°C as a catalyst. Effect of the addition of the algal bio-char on the composition of the bio-oil and also gaseous products was investigated. Pyrolysis derived bio-char was characterized by BET, FESEM and ICP method to show its surface area, porosity, and presence of inorganic metals on its surface, respectively. Phenols were increased from 8.5 to 20.76area% by the addition of bio-char. Out-of-pocket (OOP) payments may burden Methadone Maintenance Clinic patients. Since treatment is fully subsidized by the government, financial constraint might lead to patients being made to pay or be given incentive for inconvenience of therapy. This study thus evaluates the characteristic and commitment of methadone therapy patient's in terms of OOP cost, Willingness-To-Pay (WTP) and Willingness-To-Accept (WTA) concept. This survey utilizes the questionnaire by Boris ova & Goodman (2003) on the OOP, WTP and WTA. The forty adult patient's selected medical records from year 2009-2011 were from an urban government methadone clinic. Subject's selection was by convenient sampling based on the predetermined criteria. Most were male (95%) and Malay (60%) was the predominant group. Patients were group into three income groups; ≤ RM1000, ≥ RM1000 -≤ RM2000 and ≥ RM3000. The average OOP cost per month was RM391.30 (s.d RM337.50), which is about 35% of employed patient's monthly income. The wide variation could be attributed by high inter-individual and significant differences between patients in terms of transport, times taken to clinic, cost per trip and weekly household income (p=<0.05). Patients with income of less than RM1000 showed the highest tendency to pay for treatment, asked for the least money for inconvenience and many are unwilling to accept any payments. These findings showed that WTP and WTA is less of a concern for patients in the low-income group. To conclude, OOP payment is not a treatment barrier for most of the urban MMT patients.

Background: It has been previously shown that genetic or environmental factors, which promote susceptibility to allergic conditions, prevent the development of Th1-mediated inflammatory disease of multiple sclerosis (MS). To investigate the prediction value of lifetime atopic allergy in development of the future MS, a case-control study was designed., Methods: Cases and controls were interviewed between December 2007 and April 2008 and they were asked if they had symptoms or diagnosis of allergies (including respiratory tract allergy, RTA; coetaneous allergy, CA; food/drug allergy, FDA) before MS diagnosis., Results: Of 390 participants (195 controls and 195 cases), 125 healthy controls (64.1%) and 105 cases (53.8%) reported history of at least one type of atopic allergy (P=0.04). A positive history of RTA (OR 0.43; 95% CI 0.28-0.66) or FDA (OR 0.24; 95% CI 0.13-0.43) was inversely associated with the risk of MS. No statistically significant association was found between the history of CA and MS., Conclusions: There is a significant inverse association between RTA and MS that is compatible with a Th1/Th2 imbalance. This study is an observational cross-sectional study aimed to examine the possible demographic and social characteristics of patients enrolled at the Methadone Maintenance Therapy Adherence Clinic (MMTAC) in Malaysia. Medical records from year 2009 - 2011 were Reviewed. Demographic, social characteristics and laboratory examinations such as age, gender, race, clinic attendances and urine analysis were recorded. Subjects were selected by means of convenient sampling but based on the specified inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed by either Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test Mann-Whitney U-test, with the limit of significance was set at p < 0.05. Demographically, this study found that the ratio of Malays, Chinese and Indian enrolled to the MMTAC program is similar to the distribution of races in Malaysia. Their starting age for drug use was between 14-35 years and the age to enrolment between 30-58 years. Socially, many are unemployed, lowly educated and married. Most are drug users with a high percentage of HCV accompanied with impaired liver function. Retention rate was 87% but illicit drug use was at 57.50%. However, percentage of employment increased significantly after therapy. The study managed to identify several demographical and social distributions of patients attending the MMTAC. Although attendance rate was high, many were on illicit drug use. Nevertheless, employment rate improved significantly.

Despite updating knowledge and a growing number of medications for multiple sclerosis (MS), no definite treatment is available yet for patients suffering from progressive forms of the disease. Autologous bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cell (BM-MSC) transplantation is a promising method proposed as a therapy for MS. Although the safety of these cells has been confirmed in hematological, cardiac and inflammatory diseases, its efficacy in MS treatment is still under study. Patients with progressive MS (expanded disability status scale score: 4.0 -6.50) unresponsive to conventional treatments were recruited for this study. Twenty-five patients [f/m: 19/6, mean age: 34.7±7] received a single intrathecal injection of ex-vivo expanded MSCs (mean dose: 29.5×10(6) cells). We observed their therapeutic response for 12 months. Associated short-term adverse events of injection consisted of transient low-grade fever, nausea /vomiting, weakness in the lower limbs and headache. No major delayed adverse effect was reported. 3 patients left the study for personal reasons. The mean (SD) expanded disability status scale (EDSS) score of 22 patients changed from 6.1 (0.6) to 6.3 (0.4). Clinical course of the disease (measured by EDSS) improved in 4, deteriorated in 6 and had no change in 12 patients. In MRI evaluation, 15 patients showed no change, whereas 6 patients showed new T2 or gadolinium enhanced lesions (1 lost to follow-up). It seems that MSC therapy can improve/stabilize the course of the disease in progressive MS in the first year after injection with no serious adverse effects. Repeating the study with a larger sample size, booster injections and longer follow-up using a controlled study design is advised.

Objective: To assess the Groningen Sleep Quality Scale (GSQS) for evaluation of high-altitude sleep (HAS) disturbance and employ GSQ questionnaire to describe HAS., Methods: After the first night's stay at the altitude of 3500 m, quality of sleep for 100 participants (age: 29.13+/-11.01 years; 36 females/64 males) was assessed using the self-administered 15-item GSQS translated into Farsi., Results: Mean GSQS score was 5.36+/-4.32; 38 (38%) participants had a score equal to or less than 2, and 46 (46%) participants had a score equal to or more than 6. A Cronbach's alpha of 0.90 was calculated for internal consistency. Waking up several times during the night was the most prevalent complaint during the first night of sleep, and absolute inability to sleep was the most uncommon problem., Conclusions: HAS disturbance, which involved many of newcomers to a high altitude, had various harmful effects. For HAS research, GSQS was confirmed to be valid and reliable.

Background: Microdermabrasion (MDA) is a safe, simple, and beneficial technique for superficial skin resurfacing. Despite its popular usage, few studies have assessed the efficacy of different MDA protocols applied at the present time. Objectives To assess the effects of MDA generally, as well as to compare the effects of two vs. three passes of MDA in each session for a total number of six therapeutic sessions on skin biophysical characteristics., Methods: In this randomized, investigator-blind, split-face study, 10 patients underwent a series of six MDA treatments with an interval of 2 weeks. One side of the face was treated with two passes of MDA and the other side was treated with three passes, randomly. Stratum corneum hydration, sebum secretion, and skin pH measurements were obtained before and after the procedure on all sessions and also 1 and 4 weeks after the last treatment., Results: After six sessions of MDA, a decrease in sebum content compared to baseline was shown at the end of treatment sessions, but no statistical difference was observed between two vs. three passes groups (-30.0 [interquartile range, IQR = 50.0] vs. -27.5 [IQR = 125.3], respectively, P = 0.58). Comparison of two treatment groups showed significant higher values of sebum content in the first follow-up after treatment with three passes of MDA. (64.0 [IQR = 52.0] for three passes vs. 45.0 [IQR = 46.0] for two passes, P = 0.04) A significant increase was observed in pH values at the end of treatment series, first and second follow-up after treatment with two passes of MDA., Conclusions: MDA may have remarkable effects on skin barrier function changes resulting in skin clinical improvements (Cochrane Skin Group identifier: CSG No. 37).

Background: Altitude illness results from hypobaric hypoxia at altitudes higher than 2500 meters above sea level. To determine whether vital signs can be used as predictors for severe acute mountain sickness, we carried out a prospective observational study., Methods: A cohort of 90 individuals (male/female ratio: 2; age: 13 - 65 years) in a mountain hotel's clinic at 3450 meters in Iran were studied from September through October 2006. Demographics and vital signs were measured during the first hour of ascent. The individuals were followed for acute mountain sickness symptoms including headache, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, insomnia, and fatigue. Lake Louise criteria were used to diagnose acute mountain sickness. Severe acute mountain sickness was considered if a score of equal or more than 5 was present. Significance was assigned to values of P<0.05., Results: Acute mountain sickness was diagnosed in 34 (37.8%) participants after 24 hours of ascent. Severe acute mountain sickness was detected in 14 (15.6%) participants. A respiratory rate of 20 or more during the first hour of ascent was recorded for nine (64.3%) patients with severe acute mountain sickness and 15 (19.7%) individuals in the negative/mild acute mountain sickness group. This suggests an association between early high respiratory rates and risk of subsequent severe acute mountain sickness (P=0.001)., Conclusion: There is an association between a rise in the respiratory rate and susceptibility to acute mountain sickness. This can enable us to predict severe acute mountain sickness and prevent it. Furthermore, Tochal Mountain Hotel guests should be aware of the risk of acute mountain sickness and should be recommended to use prophylactic acetazolamide or dexamethasone before ascent.

Objective: To determine the impact of sumatriptan prophylaxis on acute mountain sickness (AMS) and altitude headache development within 24 hours of ascent, we designed a double-blind, randomized, clinical trial., Methods: A prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in Tochal Mountain Hotel at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level during October 2006 to November 2006. A total of 102 Iranian adults were assigned to receive either sumatriptan succinate (50mg) or placebo within 1 hour of ascent. AMS incidence was measured by Lake Louise AMS score > or = 3 with headache and one other symptom. Secondary outcome measures included severity of syndrome (Lake Louise scores > or = 5), incidence of headache, and severity of headache., Results: Based on intention-to-treat analysis, AMS was more prevalent in placebo group (n = 23 [45.1%]) than sumatriptan group (n = 12 [23.5%]; p = 0.02). Headache also had a greater rate for placebo users (placebo vs sumatriptan group: 29 [56.9%] vs 17 [33.3%]; p = 0.02). No association was detected between sumatriptan prophylaxis and AMS or altitude headache severity., Discussion: Sumatriptan prophylaxis is effective to prevent AMS development. Furthermore, our findings confirm cerebral vasodilative and edematous mechanisms of AMS progression, whereas sumatriptan is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine(1) receptor subtype agonist and a selective cerebral vasoconstrictor as a result (http://www.controlled-trials.com/ISRCTN87201238/).
