The Module-0 Demonstrator is a single-phase 600 kg liquid argon time projection chamber operated as a prototype for the DUNE liquid argon near detector. Based on the ArgonCube design concept, Module-0 features a novel 80k-channel pixelated charge readout and advanced high-coverage photon detection system. In this paper, we present an analysis of an eight-day data set consisting of 25 million cosmic ray events collected in the spring of 2021. We use this sample to demonstrate the imaging performance of the charge and light readout systems as well as the signal correlations between the two. We also report argon purity and detector uniformity measurements and provide comparisons to detector simulations.

Abstract The ICARUS collaboration employed the 760-ton T600 detector in a successful 3-year physics run at the underground LNGS laboratory, performing a sensitive search for LSND-like anomalous $$\nu _e$$ ν e appearance in the CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso beam, which contributed to the constraints on the allowed neutrino oscillation parameters to a narrow region around 1 eV $$^2$$ 2 . After a significant overhaul at CERN, the T600 detector has been installed at Fermilab. In 2020 the cryogenic commissioning began with detector cool down, liquid argon filling and recirculation. ICARUS then started its operations collecting the first neutrino events from the booster neutrino beam (BNB) and the Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) beam off-axis, which were used to test the ICARUS event selection, reconstruction and analysis algorithms. ICARUS successfully completed its commissioning phase in June 2022. The first goal of the ICARUS data taking will be a study to either confirm or refute the claim by Neutrino-4 short-baseline reactor experiment. ICARUS will also perform measurement of neutrino cross sections with the NuMI beam and several Beyond Standard Model searches. After the first year of operations, ICARUS will search for evidence of sterile neutrinos jointly with the Short-Baseline Near Detector, within the Short-Baseline Neutrino program. In this paper, the main activities carried out during the overhauling and installation phases are highlighted. Preliminary technical results from the ICARUS commissioning data with the BNB and NuMI beams are presented both in terms of performance of all ICARUS subsystems and of capability to select and reconstruct neutrino events.

Abstract Background Much of the research to-date on food parenting has evaluated typical use of various parent feeding practices via questionnaire. The Real-Time Parent Feeding Practices Measurement survey was developed for use within an Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) protocol to capture momentary use of parent feeding practices in real-time. Methods This manuscript describes the development of the EMA-based Real-Time Parent Feeding Practices survey and highlights initial descriptive data on the real-time use of 22 individual parent feeding practices (e.g., pressure-to-eat, guided choices, etc.) as reported via EMA by parents of preschool-aged children (n = 116) over a 10-day data collection time period. A total of 3382 eating occasions were reported, with an average of 29.2 reported eating occasions per participant. Results Results revealed that most participants used a variety of food-related parenting practices day-to-day that span four higher-order domains: structure, autonomy support, coercive control and indulgence. Supportive feeding practices, defined as those from the structure and autonomy support domains, were reported most frequently, with one or more structure behavior (e.g., specific mealtime rules/routines) was used at 88.9% of reported eating occasions and one or more autonomy support behavior (e.g., involvement of the child in meal preparation) was used at 87.3% of eating occasions. While unsupportive feeding practices, defined as practices from within the coercive control (e.g., pressure-to-eat) and indulgent (e.g., anticipatory catering) feeding domains, were reported less frequently, one or more behaviors from each of these domains were still reported at over 25% of all eating occasions. Conclusions Results of the current study take a next step towards deepening our understanding of the use of a broad range of food-related parenting practices in real-time. Findings revealed that the vast majority of practices used by parents fall within the structure and autonomy support domains. However, most parents did not exclusively use supportive or unsupportive practices, rather they used a combination of food-related parenting practices across all domains. Future research should continue to explore a broad range of food-related parenting practices and seek to understand how parent approaches to feeding are associated with long-term child outcomes, including dietary intake, food preferences, and eating patterns.

The integration of battery energy storage (BES) with photovoltaic (PV) systems is becoming economically attractive for residential customers. The conventional approach for the interconnection of PV and battery systems requires at least two separate power converters that results in multistage power conversion for some power flows. The dc-dc three port converters (TPCs) are an alternative solution. These converters have many topological variants and possess different operating principles, topological benefits and limitations, and complexities. This paper concentrates on the topological study of TPCs for integrated PV and BES systems applications in the power range from a few hundred watts to 350 kW. These are classified into three different categories based on their isolation features between the ports to establish a topological mapping of the reported TPCs. This provides a framework that systematically explores the full range of technical benefits and limitations of each TPC topology. This paper also examines the possible extension of the TPC topologies for grid-interactive PV-BES systems where bidirectional power flow capability is required between grid and BES systems. This extensive review will provide a useful framework and a strong point of reference for researchers for the selection of TPC topologies to meet the system requirements for PV and energy storage applications.

This paper proposes control augmentations to allow two Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOMs) devices to operate in parallel from a shared DC bus. Two parallel connected four-wire STATCOMs will be shown to be highly susceptible to an uncontrolled circulating current in the neutrals when operating with a three degree of freedom current control scheme. The circulating current can be calculated from the local inverter phase currents and neutral current. This paper shows the circulating component is readily suppressed by a neutral voltage offset that is determined by a proportional controller (P). The controller is validated by both simulation and experimental results.

A transmission line fault generates transient high frequency travelling waves (TWs) that propagate through the entire network. The fault location can be determined by recording the instants at which the incident waves arrive at various points in the network. In single end-based methods, the incident wave arrival time and its subsequent reflections from the fault point are used to identify the fault location. In heavily branched distribution networks, the magnitude of the traveling wave declines rapidly as it passes through multiple junctions that cause reflection and refraction to the signal. Therefore, detecting the first incident wave from a high impedance fault is a significant challenge in the electrical distribution networks, in particular, subsequent reflections from a temporarily fault may not be possible. Therefore, to identify a high impedance or temporary faults in a distribution network with many branches, loads, switching devices and distributed transformers, multiple observers are required to observe the entire network. A fully observable and locatable network requires at least one observer per branch or spur which is not a cost effective solution. This paper proposes a reasonable number of relatively low-cost voltage TW observers with GPS time-synchronization and radio communication to detect and timestamp the TW arrival at several points in the network. In this regard, a method to optimally place a given number of TW detectors to maximize the network observability and locatability is presented. Results show the robustness of the proposed method to detect high impedance and intermittent faults within distribution networks with a minimum number of observers.

Compound mixtures represent an alternative, additional approach to DNA and synthetic sequence-defined macromolecules in the field of non-conventional molecular data storage, which may be useful depending on the target application. Here, we report a fast and efficient method for information storage in molecular mixtures by the direct use of commercially available chemicals and thus, zero synthetic steps need to be performed. As a proof of principle, a binary coding language is used for encoding words in ASCII or black and white pixels of a bitmap. This way, we stored a 25 × 25-pixel QR code (625 bits) and a picture of the same size. Decoding of the written information is achieved via spectroscopic ( 1 H NMR) or chromatographic (gas chromatography) analysis. In addition, for a faster and automated read-out of the data, we developed a decoding software, which also orders the data sets according to an internal "ordering" standard. New sustainable concepts have to be developed to overcome the increasing problems of resource availability. Cellulose derivatives with tunable material properties are promising biobased alternatives to existing petroleum-derived polymeric materials. However, the chemical modification of cellulose is very challenging, often requiring harsh conditions and complex solubilization or activation steps. More sustainable procedures toward novel cellulose derivatives are therefore of great interest. Herein, we describe a novel concept combining two approaches, (i) tandem catalysis and (ii) cellulose derivatization, by applying a single catalyst for three transformations in the DMSO/DBU/CO 2 switchable solvent system. Cellulose was functionalized with four different biobased isothiocyanates, which were formed in situ via a catalytic sulfurization of isocyanides with elemental sulfur, preventing the exposure and handling of the isothiocyanates. The degree of substitution of the formed O- cellulose thiocarbamates was shown to be controllable in a range of 0.52-2.16 by varying the equivalents of the reactants. All obtained products were analyzed by ATR-IR, 1 H, 13 C, and 31 P NMR spectroscopy as well as size exclusion chromatography, elemental analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermal gravimetric analysis. Finally, the tandem reaction approach was shown to be beneficial in terms of efficiency as well as sustainability compared to a stepwise synthesis. Recycling ratios ranging from 79.1% to 95.6% were obtained for the employed components, resulting in an E -factor of 2.95 for the overall process.

Marine plastic pollution is a worldwide challenge making advances in the field of biodegradable polymer materials necessary. Polylactide (PLA) is a promising biodegradable polymer used in various applications; however, it has a very slow seawater degradability. Herein, we present the first library of PLA derivatives with incorporated "breaking points" to vary the speed of degradation in artificial seawater from years to weeks. Inspired by the fast hydrolysis of ribonucleic acid (RNA) by intramolecular transesterification, we installed phosphoester breaking points with similar hydroxyethoxy side groups into the PLA backbone to accelerate chain scission. Sequence-controlled anionic ring-opening copolymerization of lactide and a cyclic phosphate allowed PLA to be prepared with controlled distances of the breaking points along the backbone. This general concept could be translated to other slowly degrading polymers and thereby be able to prevent additional marine pollution in the future.

Background Context: Anterior cervical discectomy with an interbody cage (ACDF) to obtain fusion is a common procedure in cervical spine surgery. Presently, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with (auto) graft is frequently used for interbody fusion although alternative implant technology like 3-D printing titanium has been introduced recently., Purpose: Reporting the clinical and quantitative radiological outcome of a prospective cohort of 3-D printed porous titanium implants., Study Design/setting: Prospective study of patients with single level ACDF using 3-D printed porous titanium cervical implants. These data were compared with 48 patients from the PEEK with autograft group of the previously performed CAncellous Structured Ceramic Arthrodesis DEvice trial., Patient Sample: Fourty-nine patients were included., Outcome Measures: Neck disability index (NDI), visual analog scale (VAS), self-reported perceived recovery, and fusion status., Methods: The clinical outcomes and fusion rates were documented at 3, 6, and 12 months. Dynamic X-rays were analyzed to determine range of motion (ROM) of the operated level. Fusion was defined as rotation ≤4° and ≤1.25 mm translation on flexion-extension films., Results: The mean NDI improved from 41.2 preoperatively to 19.4 at 12 months postoperatively. Both VAS arm and VAS neck improved significantly after surgery and 77.1% of the patients reported complete or nearly complete recovery at 12 months. The mean ROM of the affected disc level decreased from 8.7° (range 2.6-21.4) before surgery to 1.6° (0.0-4.6°) after 12 months. The fusion rate at 3, 6, and 12 months was 84%, 89%, and 91% respectively, compared with 67%, 72%, and 90%, in the PEEK group., Conclusions: 3-D printed porous titanium cervical implants resulted in significant clinical improvement after surgery. The fusion rate of porous titanium compared with PEEK with autograft at 12 months was similar, although porous titanium resulted in faster consolidation. Introduction: Early breast cancer detection and advancements in treatment options have resulted in an increase of breast cancer survivors. An increasing number of women are living with the long-term effects of breast cancer treatment, making the quality of survivorship an increasingly important goal. Breast cancer-related lymphoedema (BCRL) is one of the most underestimated complications of breast cancer treatment with a reported incidence of 20%. A microsurgical technique called lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) might be a promising treatment modality for patients with BCRL. The main objective is to assess whether LVA is more effective than the current standard therapy (conservative treatment) in terms of improvement in quality of life and weather it is cost-effective., Methods and Analysis: A multicentre, randomised controlled trial, carried out in two academic and two community hospitals in the Netherlands. The study population includes 120 women over the age of 18 who have undergone treatment for breast cancer including axillary treatment (sentinel lymph node biopsy or axillary lymph node dissection) and/or axillary radiotherapy, presenting with an early stage lymphoedema of the arm, viable lymphatic vessels and received at least 3 months conservative treatment. Sixty participants will undergo the LVA operation and the other sixty will continue their regular conservative treatment, both with a follow-up of 24 months. The primary outcome is the health-related quality of life. Secondary outcomes are societal costs, quality adjusted life years, cost-effectiveness ratio, discontinuation rate of conservative treatment and excess limb volume., Ethics and Dissemination: The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Maastricht University Medical Center (METC) on 19 December 2018 (NL67059.068.18). Background Context: Patients with large annular defects after lumbar discectomy for disc herniation are at high risk of symptomatic recurrence and reoperation., Purpose: The present study aimed to determine whether a bone-anchored annular closure device, in addition to lumbar microdiscectomy, resulted in lower reherniation and reoperation rates plus increased overall success compared with lumbar microdiscectomy alone., Design: This is a multicenter, randomized superiority study., Patient Sample: Patients with symptoms of lumbar disc herniation for at least 6 weeks with a large annular defect (6-10 mm width) after lumbar microdiscectomy were included in the study., Outcome Measures: The co-primary end points determined a priori were recurrent herniation and a composite end point consisting of patient-reported, radiographic, and clinical outcomes. Study success required superiority of annular closure on both end points at 2-year follow-up., Methods: Patients received lumbar microdiscectomy with additional bone-anchored annular closure device (n=276 participants) or lumbar microdiscectomy only (control; n=278 participants). Two authors received study-specific support morethan $10,000 per year, 8 authors received study-specific support less than $10,000 per year, and 11 authors received no study-specific support., Results: Among 554 randomized participants, 550 (annular closure device: n=272; control: n=278) were included in the modified intent-to-treat efficacy analysis and 550 (annular closure device: n=267; control: n=283) were included in the as-treated safety analysis. Both co-primary end points of the study were met, with recurrent herniation (50% vs. 70%, P<.001) and composite end point success (27% vs. 18%, P=.02) favoring annular closure device. The frequency of symptomatic reherniation was lower with annular closure device (12% vs. 25%, P<.001). There were 29 reoperations in 24 patients in the annular closure device group and 61 reoperations in 45 control patients. The frequency of reoperations to address recurrent herniation was 5% with annular closure device and 13% in controls (P=.001). End plate changes were more prevalent in the annular closure device group (84% vs. 30%, P<.001). Scores for back pain, leg pain, Oswestry Disability Index, and health-related quality of life at regular visits were comparable between groups over 2-year follow-up., Conclusions: In patients at high risk of herniation recurrence after lumbar microdiscectomy, annular closure with a bone-anchored implant lowers the risk of symptomatic recurrence and reoperation. Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is an easily available, renewable carbon source and can be utilized as a comonomer in the catalytic ring-opening polymerization of epoxides to generate aliphatic polycarbonates. Dodecyl glycidyl ether (DDGE) is copolymerized with CO 2 and propylene oxide (PO) to obtain aliphatic poly(dodecyl glycidyl ether carbonate) and poly(propylene carbonate-co-dodecyl glycidyl ether carbonate) copolymers, respectively. The polymerization proceeds at 30 °C and high CO 2 pressure utilizing the established binary catalytic system (R,R)-Co(salen)Cl/[PPN]Cl. The copolymers with varying DDGE:PO ratios are characterized via NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and SEC, exhibiting high molecular weights between 11 400 and 37 900 g mol -1 with dispersities (Р= M w /M n ) in the range of 1.37-1.61. Copolymers with T g s of -11 °C or T m s from 5 to 15 °C and thermal decomposition >200 °C depending on the comonomer ratio, are obtained as determined by differential scanning calorimetry/TGA., (© 2018 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Object: In the present study the authors consider the influence of the porosity of synthetic nerve grafts on peripheral nerve regeneration., Methods: Microporous (1-13 microm) and nonporous nerve grafts made of a copolymer of trimethylene carbonate and epsilon-caprolactone were tested in an animal model. Twelve weeks after surgery, nerve and muscle morphological and electrophysiological results of regenerated nerves that had grown through the synthetic nerve grafts were compared with autografted and untreated (control) sciatic nerves. Based on the observed changes in the number and diameter of the nerve fibers, the predicted values of the electrophysiological parameters were calculated., Results: The values of the morphometric parameters of the peroneal nerves and the gastrocnemius and anterior tibial muscles were similar if not equal in the rats receiving synthetic nerve grafts. The refractory periods, however, were shorter in porous compared with nonporous grafted nerves, and thus were closer to control values., Conclusions: A shorter refractory period enables the axon to follow the firing frequency of the neuron more effectively and allows a more adequate target organ stimulation. Therefore, porous are preferred over nonporous nerve grafts.

The authors used a revised planned behavior model in the consumer domain. The revised model incorporated separate measures of descriptive and injunctive/ prescriptive norms, self-identity, and past behavior in an effort to improve the predictive power of the theory of planned behavior (TPB; I. Ajzen, 1985) in relation to a self-reported consumer behavior: purchasing one's preferred soft drink. At Time 1, respondents (N = 112) completed self-report measures of (a) attitudes, (b) perceived behavioral control, (c) descriptive and injunctive/prescriptive norms, (d) self-identity, (e) past behavior, and (f) intentions. The authors assessed self-reported behavior 1 week later (Time 2). Attitudes, injunctive/prescriptive norms, descriptive norms, past behavior, and self-identity were all positively related to purchase intentions, and intentions were predictive of self-reported behavior at Time 2. These findings highlight the utility of the TPB in the consumer domain.
