1. Nitrogen and residue management effects on performance of happy seeder sown wheat

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2016-17 and 2017-18 to evaluate the influence of different residue and nitrogen management practices on soil physico-chemical properties, root density, weed growth and grain yield of happy seeder sown wheat. Experiment was conducted in randomized block design consisting of eleven residue and nitrogen management treatments in four replications. The results inferred that weed biomass was significantly less in chopped straw treatments (C) as compared to unchopped treatments (NC). Treatments receiving 150 kg N/ha had higher root density than 125 kg N/ha treatments at all soil depths during both years. Soil physical and chemical properties were not significantly affected but there was improvement in these properties after two years of residue retention. Grain yield (5.42 and 5.36 t/ha) was maximum in treatment where 150 kg N (30 kg at chopping of straw and 120 kg as per recommendation) was applied along with 5 t/ha FYM (C+N30+120+FYM5), which was significantly better than NC + N125, C + N125, C + FYM5 + N125 and C + N20+105 treatments but statistically at par with rest of the treatments.

2. Implementation of a GPS-RO data processing system for the KIAPS-LETKF data assimilation system

Abstract: The Korea Institute of Atmospheric Prediction Systems (KIAPS) has been developing a new global numerical weather prediction model and an advanced data assimilation system. As part of the KIAPS package for observation processing (KPOP) system for data assimilation, preprocessing, and quality control modules for bending-angle measurements of global positioning system radio occultation (GPS-RO) data have been implemented and examined. The GPS-RO data processing system is composed of several steps for checking observation locations, missing values, physical values for Earth radius of curvature, and geoid undulation. An observation-minus-background check is implemented by use of a one-dimensional observational bending-angle operator, and tangent point drift is also considered in the quality control process. We have tested GPS-RO observations utilized by the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) within KPOP, based on both the KMA global model and the National Center for Atmospheric Research Community Atmosphere Model with Spectral Element dynamical core (CAM-SE) as a model background. Background fields from the CAM-SE model are incorporated for the preparation of assimilation experiments with the KIAPS local ensemble transform Kalman filter (LETKF) data assimilation system, which has been successfully implemented to a cubed-sphere model with unstructured quadrilateral meshes. As a result of data processing, the bending-angle departure statistics between observation and background show significant improvement. Also, the first experiment in assimilating GPS-RO bending angle from KPOP within KIAPS-LETKF shows encouraging results.

3. Heat utilization vis-à-vis crop performance of mechanically transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L.) as affected by tillage systems and nitrogen levels

Abstract: The experiment comprising of four tillage methods viz., puddling (PTR), conventional tillage without puddling (CT), reduced tillage (RT) and zero tillage (ZT) and four nitrogen levels at 0, 100, 125 and 150 kg ha-1 was conducted in a strip plot design with four replications at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 2010 and 2011 to study the effect of tillage and nitrogen levels on productivity and heat utilization in mechanically transplanted rice. Results revealed that periodic plant height and dry matter accumulation by the crop recorded at 30, 60, 90 DAT and at harvest, leaf area index (LAI) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) interception by the crop at panicle emergence stage and the grain yield were statistically at par in mechanical transplanting in CT and PTR but significantly higher than that in RT and ZT. Application of 150 kg N ha-1 recorded significantly higher LAI, PAR interception, number of tillers and grain yield than that in 0, 100 and 125 kg N ha-1. Mechanical transplanting in CT recorded highest accumulation of growing degree days (GDD) and highest heat use efficiency (HUE). The accumulated GDD and HUE increased significantly with each successive increase in nitrogen dose from 0 to 150 kg ha-1.

4. What is the degree of variability in formal training for pediatric orthopedic surgeons performing scoliosis surgery?

Abstract: Introduction: although pediatric orthopedic surgeons worldwide perform scoliosis surgery, the training received is variable and poorly understood. By surveying the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society (EPOS) and the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Ortopedia (SLAOTI), we aim to characterize this variability. Material and methods: in 2021, we distributed an anonymous online questionnaire to EPOS and SLAOTI. Results: 43% EPOS and 22% SLAOTI perform scoliosis procedures (p < 0.05). 18% EPOS and 2% SLAOTI performed > 35 procedures annually (p < 0.05). 70% EPOS and 27% SLAOTI received formal training in spinal deformity surgery (p < 0.005). Conclusions: results show significant differences in training and performance of scoliosis procedures between societies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The PHENIX collaboration presents first measurements of low-momentum ($0.4$1\,GeV/$c$) direct-photon yield $dN_{\gamma}^{\rm dir}/d\eta$ is a smooth function of $dN_{\rm ch}/d\eta$ and can be well described as proportional to $(dN_{\rm ch}/d\eta)^\alpha$ with $\alpha{\approx}1.25$. This scaling behavior holds for a wide range of beam energies at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider, for centrality selected samples, as well as for different, $A$$+$$A$ collision systems. At a given beam energy the scaling also holds for high $p_T$ ($>5$\,GeV/$c$) but when results from different collision energies are compared, an additional $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$-dependent multiplicative factor is needed to describe the integrated-direct-photon yield., Comment: 673 authors from 82 institutions, 10 pages, 4 figures. v2 is version accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters. Abstract: The spatial chemical distributions of doped T ions and the electronic structures of [Zn.sub.1-x][T.sub.x]O (T=Mn, Fe, Co) are investigated by combining scanning photoelectron microscopy (SPEM), photoemission spectroscopy (PES), soft-x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The results are found to be consistent with the carrier-mediated ferromagnetism, suggesting that the high carrier density is important in determining the ferromagnetic behavior of [Zn.sub.1-x][T.sub.x]O.

Abstract: Electronic structures of delafossite AgTO2 (T=Fe, Co, Ni) are investigated by using photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The valence-band PES study of AgTO2 (T=Co, Ni) reveals that T 3d states are located close to E(sub F) and that the Ni 3d band is more metalliclike than the Co 3d band.

Abstract: The chemical distributions and electronic structures of Ge(sub 1-x)T(sub x) (T=Cr, Fe) diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors is investigated by employing scanning photoelectron microscopy, x-ray absorption spectroscopy and photoemission spectroscopy. Study reveals that Ge(sub1-x)T(sub x) crystals are chemically phase-separated, suggesting that the observed ferromagnetic ordering in it arises from the magnetic properties of the T-rich Ge(sub1-x)T(sub x) phases.

Abstract: Analysis of three D → Kππ Dalitz plots is presented using data collected by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. Our data are fit to a model consisting of a sum of Breit-Wigner amplitudes for the intermediate two-body resonant decay modes and a constant term for the nonresonant contribution. We extract branching fractions and relative phases and compare them to the results obtained in other experiments. Although this model qualitatively reproduces many features of our data, statistically significant discrepancies are observed in some of our fits.

Abstract: Fermilab high-energy photoproduction experiment E687 measures a branching ratio of Γ ( D S + → φμ + ν ) / Γ ( D S + → φμ + ) = 0.58 ± 0.17 (stat) ± 0.07 (sys). This branching ratio is combined with theoretical inputs to obtain a new measurement of the D S + absolute branching ratio of Γ ( D S + → φμ + ) / Γ ( D S + → all) = 0.031 ± 0.009 (stat 0.005 (sys) ± 0.004 (theoretical).

Abstract: We present a search for a pentaquark decaying strongly to $pK_S^0$ in $\gamma N$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy up to 25 GeV/$c^2$. Finding no evidence for such a state in the mass range of 1470 MeV/$c^2$ to 2200 MeV/$c^2$, we set limits on the yield and on the cross section times branching ratio relative to $\Sigma^*(1385)^\pm$ and $K^*(892)^+$., Comment: As accepted by Physics Letters B

Abstract: Using data collected by the FOCUS experiment at Fermilab, we report the discovery of the decay modes D^0 --> K- pi+ pi+ pi+ pi- pi- and D^0 --> pi+ pi+ pi+ pi- pi- pi-. With a sample of 48 +/- 10 reconstructed D^0 --> K- pi+ pi+ pi+ pi- pi- decays and 149 +/- 17 reconstructed D^0 --> pi+ pi+ pi+ pi- pi- pi- decays, we measure the following relative branching ratios: ${\Gamma (D^0 \to K^- \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^-) / \Gamma (D^0 \to K^- \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^-)} = (2.70 \pm 0.58 \pm 0.38) \times 10^{-3}$ ${\Gamma (D^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^- \pi^-) / \Gamma (D^0 \to K^- \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^-)} = (5.23 \pm 0.59 \pm 1.35) \times 10^{-3}$ ${\Gamma (D^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^- \pi^-) / \Gamma (D^0 \to K^- \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^-)} = 1.93 \pm 0.47 \pm 0.48$ The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. The branching fraction of the Cabibbo suppressed six-body decay mode is measured to be a factor of two higher than the branching fraction of the Cabibbo favored six-body decay mode., Comment: To be submitted to Phys. Abstract: We report measurements of the properties of the $D_{sJ}^+(2317)$ and $D_{sJ}^+(2457)$ resonances produced in continuum $e^+ e^-$ annihilation near $\sqrt{s}=10.6 \mathrm{GeV}$. The analysis is based on an $86.9 \mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ data sample collected %at and 60 MeV below the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with with the Belle detector at KEKB. We determine the masses to be $M(D_{sJ}^+(2317)) = 2317.2 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.9(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2$ and $M(D_{sJ}^+(2457))=2456.5 \pm 1.3(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.3(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2$. We observe the radiative decay mode $D_{sJ}^+(2457) \to D_s^+ \gamma$ and the dipion decay mode $D_{sJ}^+(2457) \to D_s^+ \pi^+ \pi^-$, and determine their branching fractions. No corresponding decays are observed for the $D_{sJ}(2317)$ state. Abstract: Background and aims: Despite the progress made in understanding the immunological aspects of the pathogenesis of coeliac disease (CD), the early steps that allow gliadin to cross the intestinal barrier are still largely unknown. The aim of this study was to establish whether gliadin activates a zonulin dependent enterocyte intracellular signalling pathway(s) leading to increased intestinal permeability. Methods: The effect of gliadin on the enterocyte actin cytoskeleton was studied on rat intestinal epithelial (IEC-6) cell cultures by fluorescence microscopy and spectrofluorimetry. Zonulin concentration was measured on cell culture supernatants by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Transepithelial intestinal resistance (Rt) was measured on ex vivo intestinal tissues mounted in Ussing chambers. Results: Incubation of cells with gliadin led to a reversible protein kinase C (PKC) mediated actin polymerisation temporarily coincident with zonulin release. A significant reduction in Rt was observed after gliadin addition on rabbit intestinal mucosa mounted in Ussing chambers. Pretreatment with the zonulin inhibitor FZI/0 abolished the gliadin induced actin polymerisation and Rt reduction but not zonulin release. Conclusions: Gliadin induces zonulin release in intestinal epithelial cells in vitro. Activation of the zonulin pathway by PKC mediated cytoskeleton reorganisation and tight junction opening leads to a rapid increase in intestinal permeability.

Abstract: Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new measurement for the branching ratios of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes D0-->Pi-Pi+ and D0-->K-K+. We measured: Gamma(D0-->K-K+)/Gamma(D0-->Pi-Pi+) = 2.81 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.06(syst), Gamma(D0-->K-K+)/Gamma(D0-->K-Pi+) = 0.0993 +/- 0.0014(stat) +/- 0.0014(syst), and Gamma(D0-->Pi-Pi+)/Gamma(D0-->K-Pi+) = 0.0353 +/- 0.0012 (stat) +/- 0.0006(syst). Abstract: Using 29.1fb-1 of data accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) with the Belle detector at KEKB, we have studied the decay modes B0bar->Lambda_c+ pbar pi+pi-, B- -> Lambda_c+ pbar pi-, and B0bar ->Lambda_c+ pbar. We report branching fractions of exclusive B decays to charmed baryons with four-, three- and two-body final states, including intermediate Sigma_c++ and Sigma_c0 states. We observed B0bar -> Sigma_c(2455)++pbar pi- for the first time with a branching fraction of (2.38+0.63-0.55+-0.41+-0.62)x10-4 and observed evidence for the two-body decay B- ->Sigma_c(2455)0 pbar with a branching fraction of (0.45+0.26-0.19+-0.07+-0.12)x10-4. We also set improved upper limits for the two-body decays B0bar -> Lambda_c+ pbar and B- -> Sigma_c(2520)0 pbar., accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. D

Abstract: Using the FOCUS spectrometer with photon beam energies between 20 and 160 \gev, we confirm the existence of a diffractively photoproduced enhancement in $K^+K^-$ at 1750 \mevcc with nearly 100 times the statistics of previous experiments. Assuming this enhancement to be a single resonance with a Breit-Wigner mass shape, we determine its mass to be $1753.5\pm 1.5\pm 2.3$ \mevcc and its width to be $122.2\pm 6.2\pm 8.0$ \mevcc. We find no corresponding enhancement at 1750 \mevcc in $K^*K$, and again neglecting any possible interference effects we place limits on the ratio $\Gamma (X(1750) \to K^*K)/\Gamma (X(1750) \to K^+K^-)$. Our results are consistent with previous photoproduction experiments, but, because of the much greater statistics, challenge the common interpretation of this enhancement as the $\phi (1680)$ seen in $e^+e^-$ annihilation experiments., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We report the results of a study of two-body B meson decays to the complete set of K pi, pi pi, and K K final states. The study is performed on a data sample of 31.7 +/- 0.3 million B B-bar events recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle experiment at KEKB. We observe significant signals in all K pi final states and in the pi+ pi- and pi+ pi0 final states. We set limits on the pi0 pi0 and K K final states. A search is performed for partial-rate asymmetries between conjugate states for flavor-specific final states., Submitted to PRD

Abstract: This report describes an observation of mixing-induced CP violation and a measurement of the CP violation parameter, sin(2phi_1), with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider. Using a data sample of 29.1 fb-1 recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance that contains 31.3 million BBbar pairs, we reconstruct decays of neutral B mesons to the following CP eigenstates: J/psi K_S^0, psi(2S) K_S^0, chi_c1 K_S^0, eta_c K_S^0, J/psi K_L^0 and J/psi K^*0. The flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified by combining information from primary and secondary leptons, K+/- mesons, lambda baryons, slow and fast pions. The proper-time interval between the two B meson decays is determined from the distance between the two decay vertices measured with a silicon vertex detector. The result sin(2phi_1) = 0.99 +/- 0.14(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) is obtained by applying a maximum likelihood fit to the 1137 candidate events. We conclude that there is large CP violation in the neutral B meson system. A zero value for sin(2phi_1) is ruled out by more than six standard deviations., 25 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review D

Abstract: Radiative decays of the radially excited charmonium resonance, \psi(2S), into \pi\pi, K Kbar and \eta\eta final states have been measured in a sample of 3.96 * 10^6 \psi(2S) events collected by the BES collaboration. The branching ratios B(\psi(2S) -> \gamma f_{2}(1270)) = (2.27 +- 0.26 +- 0.39) * 10^{-4} and B(\psi(2S) -> \gamma f_0(1710)) * B(f_0(1710) -> K^+ K^-) = (5.59 +- 1.12 +- 0.93) * 10^{-5} are obtained. When compared to the corresponding radiative J/\psi decays, the observed \psi(2S) radiative decay rates into \gamma f_2(1270) and \gamma f_0(1710) are consistent with the 15% rule., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We have studied hadronic four-body decays of D(+) and D(+)(s) mesons with a K(S) in the final state using data recorded during the 1996-1997 fixed-target run of the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment FOCUS. We report a new branching ratio measurement of gamma(D(+)--K(S)K-pi(+)pi(+))/gamma(D(+)--K(S)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)) = 0.0768+/-0.0041+/-0.0032. We make the first observation of three new decay modes with branching ratios gamma(D(+)--K(S)K+pi(+)pi(-))/gamma(D(+)--K(S)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)) = 0.0562+/-0.0039+/-0.0040, gamma(D(+)--K(S)K+K-pi(+))/gamma(D(+)--K(S)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)) = 0.0077+/-0.0015+/-0.0009, and gamma(D(+)(s)--K(S)K+pi(+)pi(-))/gamma(D(+)(s)--K(S)K-pi(+)pi(+)) = 0.586+/-0.052+/-0.043, where in each case the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

Abstract: We report on a search for pair production of a fourth generation charge -1/3 quark (b') in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using an integrated luminosity of 93 pb^-1. Both quarks are assumed to decay via flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). The search uses the signatures gamma + 3 jets + mu-tag and 2 gamma + 2 jets. We see no significant excess of events over the expected background. We place an upper limit on the production cross section times branching fraction that is well below theoretical expectations for a b' quark decaying exclusively via FCNC for b' quark masses up to m(Z) + m(b)., Eleven pages, two postscript figures, submitted to Physical Review Letters

Abstract: Using a high statistics sample of photo-produced charm particles from the FOCUS experiment at Fermilab, we report results of a search for eight rare and Standard-Model-forbidden decays: D+, Ds+ > h+/- muon-/+ muon+ (with h=pion or Kaon). Improvement over previous results by a factor of 1.7--14 is realized. Our branching ratio upper limit D+ > pion+ muon- muon+ of 8.8E-6 at the 90% C.L. is below the current MSSM R-Parity violating constraint., 17 pages, 7 figure files

Abstract: Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new measurement of the branching ratio for the Cabibbo-favored decay mode $D^0 \to K^-K^-K^+\pi^+$. From a sample of $143 \pm 19$ fully reconstructed $D^0 \to K^-K^-K^+\pi^+$ events, we measure $\Gamma(D^0 \to K^-K^-K^+\pi^+)/\Gamma(D^0 \to K^-\pi^-\pi^+\pi^+) = 0.00257 \pm 0.00034(stat.) \pm 0.00024(syst.)$. A coherent amplitude analysis has been performed to determine the resonant substructure of this decay mode. This analysis reveals a dominant contribution from $\phi$ and $\bar K^{*0}(890)$ states., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, to be submitted to Physics Letters B

Abstract: The electronic structures of R 4f and Fe 3d states of RFe2O4 (R = Er, Tm, Lu) have been investigated by employing soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism at the Fe 2p and R 3d absorption edges. It is found that the valence states of Fe and R ions are nearly Fe2.5+ and R3+ , and that the net magnetic moments of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions are antiparallel to each other. Both R 3d and O Is XAS spectra show that the localized R 4f states do not contribute to the multiferroicity of RFe2O4- On the other hand, the magnetization data for RFe2O4 at low temperature (T) reveal the cluster glass behavior for R = Tm and Lu, but not for R = Er. This work suggests that the T-dependent structural diiferences among RFe2O4, caused by different R ions, are closely related to the magnetoelectricity at low temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
