The diffuse Galactic $\gamma$-ray emission, mainly produced via interactions between cosmic rays and the diffuse interstellar medium, is a very important probe of the distribution, propagation, and interaction of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. In this work we report the measurements of diffuse $\gamma$-rays from the Galactic plane between 10 TeV and 1 PeV energies, with the square kilometer array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Diffuse emissions from the inner ($15^{\circ}10$~TeV). The energy spectrum in the inner Galaxy regions can be described by a power-law function with an index of $-2.99\pm0.04$, which is different from the curved spectrum as expected from hadronic interactions between locally measured cosmic rays and the line-of-sight integrated gas content. Furthermore, the measured flux is higher by a factor of $\sim3$ than the prediction. A similar spectrum with an index of $-2.99\pm0.07$ is found in the outer Galaxy region, and the absolute flux for $10\lesssim E\lesssim60$ TeV is again higher than the prediction for hadronic cosmic ray interactions. The latitude distributions of the diffuse emission are consistent with the gas distribution, while the longitude distributions show slight deviation from the gas distribution. We present a procedure to correct the published decay energies in case the recoiling daughter nuclides were not considered properly in implantation experiments. A program has been developed based on Lindhard’s integral theory, which can accurately predict the energy deposition of heavy atomic projectiles in matter.

Abstract

International audience; First ever measurements of the ratios of free cyclotron frequencies of heavy, highly charged ions with Z>50 with relative uncertainties close to 10-11 are presented. Such accurate measurements have become realistic due to the construction of the novel cryogenic multi-Penning-trap mass spectrometer PENTATRAP. Based on the measured frequency ratios, the mass differences of five pairs of stable xenon isotopes, ranging from Xe126 to Xe134, have been determined. Moreover, the first direct measurement of an electron binding energy in a heavy highly charged ion, namely of the 37th atomic electron in xenon, with an uncertainty of a few eV is demonstrated. The obtained value agrees with the calculated one using two independent, different implementations of the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method. PENTATRAP opens the door to future measurements of electron binding energies in highly charged heavy ions for more stringent tests of bound-state quantum electrodynamics in strong electromagnetic fields and for an investigation of the manifestation of light dark matter in isotopic chains of certain chemical elements.

Abstract

International audience; Decay of the 8+ isomer in fully stripped ions Ru44+94 is observed during its circulation in the experimental Cooler Storage Ring (CSRe) at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). The Ru44+94 ions were produced via projectile fragmentation and stored in CSRe tuned into the isochronous ion-optical mode. The timing signals of the ions, passing through a time-of-flight detector, were consecutively registered and used to determine the variation of revolution time as a function of revolution number. A sudden change of the revolution time at a specific revolution was identified as a fingerprint of the Ru44+94 isomer decay. The isomeric half-life was deduced to be 102(17) μs, which agrees well with the theoretical expectation by blocking the internal conversion decay of the isomer. Our work proved the feasibility of studying decays of short-lived isomers in high atomic charge states using the isochronous mass spectrometry. In addition, Ru44+94m represents the shortest-lived nuclear state whose mass has ever been measured directly.

35. Possible Role of Protein CPG15 in Hippocampal Mossy Fiber Sprouting Under Conditions of Pentylenetetrazole Kindling

Abstract

We examined changes in expression of the candidate plasticity-related gene 15 (CPG15) in the dentate gyrus (DG) and hippocampal CA3 region in the pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) kindling model and investigated the role of this gene in the phenomenon of mossy fiber sprouting (MFS). Experimental rats were divided into the control and PTZ groups. The epileptic model was created by intraperitoneal PTZ injection, while control rats were injected with saline. At days 3, 7, 14, 28, and 42 after the first PTZ injection, Timm staining was scored in the CA3 hippocampal area, and a product of CPG15 (protein CPG15) was labeled in the DG stratum granulosum and in the CA3 area using immunohistochemistry. The Timm scores in the CA3 region increased gradually from day 3 and were significantly higher than those in the control within the subsequent period. The level of CPG15 protein in the DG and CA3 area decreased gradually until day 14 and returned to the normal level at day 28. The results obtained indicate, for the first time, that CPG15 may be involved in the process of MFS. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon may lead to successful therapeutic interventions that limit epileptogenesis. Ми досліджували зміни експресії продукту гена CPG15 у зубчастій звивині (ЗЗ) та зоні CA3 гіпокампа в моделі пентилентетразолового (ПТЗ-) кіндлінгу та можливу роль цього гена у феномені спрутингу моховитих волокон (СМВ). Піддослідні щури були поділені на групи контролю та ПТЗ-кіндлінгу. Модель епілепсії створювали за допомогою внутрішньоочеревинних ін’єкцій пентилентетразолу (ПТЗ); контрольним щурам ін’єкували фізіологічний розчин. На третю, сьому, 14-ту, 28-му та 42-гу добу після першої ін’єкції ПТЗ оцінювали забарвлення, за Тіммом, у зоні CA3. Локалізацію протеїну CPG15 у stratum granulosum ЗЗ та зоні CA3 гіпокампа визначали з використанням імуногістохімічної методики. Інтенсивність забарвлення, за Тіммом, у зоні CA3 поступово збільшувалася починаючи з третьої доби та була вірогідно вищою, ніж така в контролі, протягом усього наступного періоду. Рівень протеїну CPG15 у ЗЗ та полі CA3 поступово зменшувався до 14-ї доби та повертався до нормальних значень на 28-му добу. Отримані результати вперше вказують на те, що CPG15 може бути залученим у процес СМВ. Зрозуміння молекулярних механізмів, на яких базується цей феномен, може призвести до розробки успішних терапевтичних заходів, котрі обмежували б епілептогенез.

Abstract

High-tech development—which lies at the very heart of the processes of economic growth—has been recognised by many developed and developing countries as a strategic instrument to enhance and sustain their competitiveness in the global economic network. Although the concept of high-tech development differs between countries, many share the underlying assumption that the core of high-tech development is to create a sound environment where innovation thrives. This ideology implies a definite spatial dimension. As a result, various spatial strategies have been formulated and implemented to support high-tech development. This has had intentional and unintentional effects on the economy, society and space. Numerous studies have been devoted to exploring, analysing and theorising this global phenomenon. However, there has been less attention given to the role spatial planning may play in the process of high-tech development and to the factors that shape the spatial planning approaches to high-tech development in a particular place. The major objectives of this research are to advance the knowledge of the role of spatial planning in the process of high-tech development, and to establish an analytical framework that helps reveal the major institutional factors that shape spatial planning mechanisms for dealing with the spatial issues of high-tech development in different places. This contributes to the field of high-tech spatial policies transfer and lesson-drawing. In order to explore the major factors that shape the practices of spatial planning in high-tech development, a comparative approach is applied in this research. The Eindhoven city-region in the Netherlands and the Hsinchu city-region in Taiwan are selected as case study areas. Both city-regions can be recognised as success stories of high-tech development not only on a national scale but also on a global scale, despite the fact that they apply different approaches. In the Eindhoven city-region, the governments act as supporters and governors. High-tech development in the city-region is a result of close collaboration between different levels of government and other parties. In contrast, in the Hsinchu city-region the governments act as providers in high-tech development. By critically reviewing relevant literature, the research begins with the identification of principal components of high-tech development and their spatial dimensions, and with the establishment of a set of comparative frameworks, which are built upon the concepts of institutionalism and previous comparative studies of spatial planning systems. On the basis of the frameworks, the comparative study is conducted. Four major conclusions are drawn in this research. First, R&D capital, relational capital and human capital can be identified as the principal components of high-tech development, but the conception of the principal components is not static. It may change through time and space, and be influenced by contemporary technological development and dominant discourses about high-tech development. Additionally, how governments in a particular place conceptualise the principal components will influence the content of their strategies for high-tech development. Second, how governments in a particular place use their spatial planning system and tools to conduct, facilitate and/or coordinate the development of high-tech spaces is influenced by the socio-political context (e.g. model of society, administration system and conceptualisation of rights in land), conceptualisation of the principal components, dominant style of spatial planning, but also by their historical roots and contemporary technological capacities. At the city-regional level, the particular culture characteristics and historical experience of a city-region also have effects on the approach to spatial governance. Third, it is common that governments recognise the necessity of collaborating with knowledge institutes and high-tech firms in the process of high-tech spatial development, because they have access to a wide range of know-how and crucial resources. The creation of new institutional arenas to invite institutes and firms to participate in the process of decision-making is a good strategy for governments, although they must assure that the decision-making process is transparent and accountable, and meets the principles of social justice. Finally, the two cases have shown that a successful high-tech spatial development would have spatial effects on the surrounding areas, such as traffic congestion, imbalance between land supply and demand for housing and/or industrial land, and so on. It is necessary to anticipate and monitor continuously the externalities of the development from a more comprehensive perspective and to leave room for adjustment to the spatial planning and governance approaches. The analytical framework built upon the institutional concepts of Ostrom and Scharpf worked well in this research, but in the process of conducting the empirical study I found that the framework of institutional analysis I established for the empirical study implied a temporarily fixed situation for analysis. Such a framework did create an easier situation for analysis, but proved difficult to use to investigate and explain the dynamic interrelationships between the changing institutional contexts and the decision making of high-tech spatial planning at a specific place and time. While considering this limitation, I adopted a diachronic approach to complement the empirical study of part three, in order to understand the influences of prior institutional developments and specific episodes on later policy/decision making and action taking. In the future, if other studies consider applying the frameworks of this research, the effect of historical path dependency has to be taken into consideration.

23rd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition, 1-5 September 2008, Valencia, Spain; 1414-1418, 6” sc-Si and mc-Si black silicon solar wafers with nanoscale surface texturing were fabricated by wet chemical etching within 5 minutes. The overall hemispherical reflectivity of the sc-Si and mc-Si black silicon solar wafers is 1 % and 5 % at wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 1000 nm, respectively. The black silicon solar wafers can be passivated by thermal oxidation and PECVD Si3N4. The effective life time of a sc-Si black silicon solar wafer passivated by thermal oxidation in a conventional furnace tube at 900oC for 30 minutes is more than 19 μs, which is high enough for a solar cell with thickness less than 200 μm. The sc-Si and mc-Si black silicon solar wafers enable fast and large-scale production of high efficiency solar cells.

In this study the microstructure evolution in sub-surface layer of the coarse-grained W after irradiation of 400 keV He2+ at different fluences and temperatures was assessed by synchrotron grazing incident X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS). The splitting of GIXRD peaks obtained at different incident angles indicates that the un-irradiated coarse-grained W exhibits a compression strain state in the near surface and the He ions irradiation results in a lattice swelling which is more severe at higher irradiation temperature and fluence. The GISAXS results combined with the TEM analysis indicate that after irradiation at room temperature, uniformly distributed high density dislocation loops with an average radius of about 3.7 nm were formed due to the extrusion of He-V clusters. After irradiation at 400 °C, high density He bubbles with radii between 1 and 3 nm were formed in the sample interior, while large blisters appeared near the surface. Abstract: In this work, we have succeeded in destabilizing LiBH4 by the addition of SrH2, via the reaction 6LiBH4 +SrH2 →SrB6 +6LiH+10H2 with a theoretical hydrogen capacity of 9.1wt.%. According to the van’t Hoff and Arrhenius equations, the dehydrogenation enthalpy change and activation energy for the LiBH4/SrH2 system were experimentally determined to be 48kJ/mol H2 and 64kJ/mol, respectively. Both are remarkably reduced in comparison with the pristine LiBH4, which is responsible for the improved dehydrogenation property of the LiBH4/SrH2 system. The dehydrogenated products SrB6 +6LiH can be rehydrogenated to form LiBH4 and LiSrH3 at 723K under an initial hydrogen pressure of 8.0MPa. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

49. Estimating Filed-Scale Soil Nutrient Levels in Shun Yi District, Beijing.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to estimate the field-scale soil nutrient levels (SNLs) of Shunyi District''s croplands using 3S technologies. Based on the soil samples with GPS coordinates, a Landsat TM image was firstly utilized to identify cropland fields of the study area using support vector machine (SVM) classification module integrated with ENVI, and the overall classification accuracy reaches 87.68% and Kappa coefficient is 0.7996. Subsequently, according to the proposed classification criteria of SNLs by Beijing Soil and Fertilizer Work Station, four edaphic indicators including organic matter (OM), total nitrogen (TN), available phosphorus (AP) and available potassium (AK) were selected to estimate the filed-scale SNLs of Shunyi District. The result shows that four levels including very high, high, moderate and low are found except the very low level and they account for 0.4%, 42.3%, 53.3% and 4.0%, respectively. Furthermore, considering the spatial distribution of SNLs, it is better in the west, north and east than in the middle and south, while it is the worst in the middle. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
