To simulate the heat transfer in a cyclotron target used for radionuclide production two experimental set-ups were built with air and water cooling. Electric heating replaced the heat transfer by energy loss of the projectile. Temperature rise was measured by thermocouples. The data acquired with air and water cooling were modeled for a stationary case with COMSOL. In the given set-up, the maximum heat transfer was modeled to be 1551 W which is in the relevant range. The results show that multiphysics modeling can help to optimize parameters and design conditions to improve the construction of cyclotron targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
