This paper utilizes critical race theory (CRT) to identify inequalities perpetuated by racialized epistemicide, the race-based discriminatory destruction of knowledge, through the loss of cultural heritage and the limitation of access to accurate narratives. We introduce the term reparative storytelling as a way to describe work centering oral and performance-based ways of knowing and remembering that establish the evidence needed for dignity, healing, and justice. By discussing the history of library services to the Black community in Huntsville, Alabama, this paper explains how racism and urban renewal perpetuated racialized epistemic injustice by destroying cultural heritage and narratives of marginalized communities. We demonstrate strategies and tools that can be used to unsilence library history and give people access to their past by using counternarratives for reparative storytelling. In this paper, I discuss the fate of six 15th-century books from the collection of Polish bishop and bibliophile Józef Andrzej Załuski (1702–1774). I aim to trace the migrations of incunabula in the 18th century before the mass movements of books in response to the suppressions of religious convents. An analysis of unexploited provenance materials, such as ownership and reading marks, will make it possible to determine the methods of the bishop-bibliophile and the ways by which he acquired valuable collections for the Załuski Public Library (one of the largest in Europe at the time), which he co-managed with his brother. I will moreover answer the question of what factors caused these volumes to survive to this day, unlike most of volumes from Załuski's book collection, which were burnt shortly after the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. This article explores the collections and accessibility of parish libraries in early modern England and the subjects in which their readers were most interested. The period covered begins with the 1558 accession of Elizabeth I, which preceded by only a few years the establishment of the first post-Reformation parish library, and ends with the Parochial Libraries Act of 1709, which ensured that libraries could not be dismantled and dispersed without permission from the appropriate authorities. This article argues that parish libraries were established in this period to provide people of gentry rank and below with a religious education and that, despite previous historians' arguments to the contrary, the works in these collections were appropriate to the intended audience. It further contends that despite physical access restrictions imposed on these libraries by their founders, their books were read, and that readers' interests focused on four themes that were central to early modern Protestantism. This qualitative interview study with retired staff from urban public libraries collects data about employees’ perceptions of how these institutions changed during the 1980s. During the eighteenth century professional astronomy started in Lithuania, and over time the first extensive astronomical publications appeared. The tradition of publishing a periodical astronomical Bulletin started in 1921, when Vilnius Astronomical Observatory was led by Polish astronomer Professor Władysław Dziewulski. The outbreak of the Second World War stopped the publication of Bulletins, and 1960 was a crucial year in the rebirth of astronomy in Lithuania. The revitalization of the Bulletin was very important for the Observatory's research and the expansion of the library. During the Soviet occupation, Lithuanian astronomers had limited links abroad. Thus, the Bulletin served as a way to disseminate astronomical research and establish links with international research institutions. Analyzing the books preserved in libraries according to the classification of sciences is an alternative way of writing the history of Islamic sciences. This method can reveal the extent to which books belonging to each field of science have been represented in libraries throughout history. Examining libraries from the perspective of the classification of sciences may demonstrate the scholarly production and diversity in the Ottoman Empire, which is famous for its manuscript libraries. Therefore, this article proposes a new method for library and collection studies and aims to contribute to the literature on classifying Ottoman sciences. To achieve this goal, I compare three libraries of the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries, each established by one of the most influential figures of their time. A comparative analysis of the libraries of Maḥmūd Pasha, Ḥabeshī Meḥmed Agha, and Fāżil Aḥmad Pasha in terms of the classification of sciences reveals the transformation in the sciences represented in the Ottoman libraries from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries. Although the sciences belonging to fields such as Qur'ānic exegesis, hadith, and jurisprudence had a high ratio of representation in these libraries, which were designed primarily as madrasa libraries, the number of works related to history and literature increased over time. The objective of this study was to develop a crop model for sunflower in Daisy. For this intent, the field experiment data of two full irrigation treatments for 2 years, 2012 and 2013, were used to develop the crop model. The average RMSE of the dry matter (DM), leaf area index (LAI), height of plant (H), and water content parameters in the treatments utilized for calibration was calculated 0.093 Ton/ha, 0.198 cm2/cm2, 2.25 cm, and 1.035%, respectively. The average RMSE of the parameters of DM, LAI, H, and water content in the treatments utilized for validation were estimated 0.207 Ton/ha, 0.272 cm2/cm2, 4.22 cm, and 1.123%, respectively. The results of the validation showed that the developed crop model had good accuracy making it useful for simulation of sunflower agroecology. It is suggested to use the developed crop model in the information library of Daisy and survey and calibrate it for other areas with different climates and sunflower varieties. The paper illustrates the LIBMOVIT project – Libraries on the Move: Scholars, Books, Ideas Traveling in Italy in the 18th Century – whose main research focus is the European Eighteenth century socio-cultural framework in which the library as an institution acquired an historical, social, public and dynamic dimension. This context will be analysed through a study of the Eighteenth century sources connected to the learned journey experience of the Grand Tour, in particular those contained in the Angiolo Tursi collection – one of the largest travel literature collections in Italy – held at the Marciana national library in Venice. The paper presents the planned approach of the research: first, a classification and an organization of a corpus of relevant documents for the knowledge of travel literature in connection to the libraries world will be created; in particular, the sources will be identified, further bibliographical information will be added, and new sources will be integrated to the corpus and selected documents will be digitized. After that, the research will proceed through a double analysis – traditional and computational – of the texts collected in the corpus is to be developed. First, all the library and bibliographical aspects described by travellers will be studied according to the traditional approach in humanities research to collect important information about the history of libraries (location, decoration, catalogues, opening hours, access, collections, cited books and documents), the travellers and their companions (professions, nationality, reason to travel), the people met (scholars, librarians, superintendents) and the subjects and ideas discussed during the visits in the libraries. Second, the texts will be computationally analysed through several Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, starting from the automatic text recognition until arriving to more complex lexical and terminological analysis and Named Entity Recognition (NER). This paper raises the theme of the history of Lampung in the old newspaper collection. The old newspaper collection is one of the rare collections in the National Library of Indonesia. Rare newspaper collections, apart from being a primary source in historical research, have other characteristics that are not shared by the collection of books or other collections in the National Library of Indonesia. This is the background of this research. This research used a descriptive analysis method. It observed and analyzed several collections of selected rare newspapers representing various periods from the Dutch colonial era, the Japanese occupation period, era of the independence revolution, and the old order government to the new order government period. The newspaper collections selected were those that contained information about Lampung from different periods. This is to prove that there are many traces of Lampung's history in old newspaper collections and they are not minor sources of data. The author of the article discusses selected academic and popular publications on the history of libraries and librarianship in Poland which were issued between 1945 and 2015. In that period, information about the most important historical resources of various Polish libraries and early book collections was made available. In addition, the period was marked by progress in the study of materials originating before the end of the 18th century. Scholars published a range of methodological works and works about sources, contributing to the development of scholarship. At the same time, there were too few editions of source materials. After 1989, scholars intensified their efforts to find sources in foreign collections, especially in Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia and Germany. Polish collections kept abroad are yet to be fully researched and to have their inventories and catalogues published. The vast body of literature is uneven when it comes to its focus on individual historical periods, regions, subregions and local centres. It comprises publications on the history of libraries, their function and role in culture with regard to the history of publications focused on the types of libraries or individual libraries — of different traditions, sizes and the book, and stature. Scholars also explored the history of private book collections, reading rooms and libraries, as well as biographies of librarians and collectors. The quality of the publications varies. There are gaps in, for example, the history of libraries in the former Polish eastern borderlands and ‘blank pages’ in the historiography of Polish librarianship after the Second World War. There is a visible shortage of quantification of phenomena from the past of libraries, despite the fact that there are some possibilities in this respect. What is also needed is development in comparative studies, including from an international perspective, although this would require Polish historians to become more interested than before in the history of librarianship in other countries.

This study examines the "life" of an eighteenth-century private library that migrated from Spain to New Spain in 1765 and returned, greatly reduced, back to Europe in 1772. Mary Niles Maack began her research in library history at a critical time in American feminist studies. Earlier scholars laid the groundwork for feminist research by identifying the contributions of women gathering sources about them and writing histories that corrected predominantly male perspectives on the role of women in American history. Maack addressed the problem of premature generalization in library history research in her 1982 article "Toward a History of Women in Librarianship: A Critical Analysis with Suggestions for Further Research." One focus of her scrutiny was Dee Garrison's work. When Maack's article was published the first women's studies programs were just being established in American universities; her research was an important contribution to a nascent field. Mary Niles Maack's 1978 dissertation on the history of libraries in Senegal constitutes a landmark contribution to the historiography of librarianship in Africa and to international librarianship. In this article Maack's dissertation her 1981 book-length adaptation of it and her subsequent writings about West African library development are first situated in the political-economic professional and scholarly context of the late 1970s before the dissertation is evaluated in terms of her sources and methodology. Her key theme of continuity and change her analysis of the French colonial heritage and postcolonial French efforts to preserve influence in West Africa and the wider relevance of the study are discussed. Maack's book was well received. Her work provided raw material for various other authors as well as for five subsequent journal articles by Maack herself. An attempt is made to answer the question What might a dissertation on library and information science development in a francophone African country such as Senegal cover today? Following World War II the City of Las Vegas was in desperate need of infrastructure improvements to serve its growing population. Although tourists and gamblers were dazzled by hotel-casinos lining the future Las Vegas Strip local citizens were faced with a public library that had not been updated since 1916 and a book collection that amounted to only half a book per resident. City Librarian Reba McKinster struggled admirably to serve her patrons with the help of local volunteers. One such volunteer was Beda Cornwall who had moved to Las Vegas with her family in 1943. Beginning in 1948 as head of the Citizens' Library Association Cornwall energetically took up the cause of building a proper public library for her adopted city. Although the city provided the land it did not have the funds to construct or furnish the building. Working with women's clubs and fraternal organizations Cornwall and her team raised some $60000 for the library cause from Las Vegas residents. Generous donations from some notable (and notorious) casino owners also helped push the project to completion. The purpose of this research is to analyze and construct a matrix of values for the historical legacy objects from the Musi River during the Srivijaya period. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, employing data collection techniques that include observation, documentation, in-depth interviews, and library study. Data analysis employed a narrative descriptive analysis. This study produced an organized matrix of relics from the Musi River during the Sriwijaya era, including ceramics, beads, statues, and porcelain. These historical artifacts bear marks past life in political, economic, socio-cultural and religious fields. The historical values of objects from the Musi River during the Sriwijaya era is highly relevant to the study of Indonesian History during the Hindu-Buddhist period. This study aims to 1) analyze the condition of the historical electronic module currently used at SMA Banda Aceh, especially in class XII Indonesian history subjects, 2) describe the development of the historical electronic module that was developed, and 3) describe the feasibility level of the electronic module that has been developed. This research is a type of R & D research by adopting the development model of Borg and Gall. To produce this historical electronic module, researchers adopted two stages of development, namely the preliminary research stage and the development research stage. In the preliminary research stage, the researcher conducted a library study and observation. In the development research stage, the researchers carried out module designs, validated with experts and educators, revised, and conducted initial trials on six class XII students at SMA Banda Aceh. The research process was carried out using research instruments in the form of validation sheets and questionnaires. The results showed that 1) the historical electronic module used at SMA Banda Aceh in class XII is a module from the Kemendikbud, 2) the process of developing this module was carried out using Heyzine media in accordance with the advice of experts and educators, the initial trial process was carried out on six students with the final results of PBL-based historical electronic modules for class XII students at SMA Banda Aceh are very suitable for use, with a score of 98% from module experts, 88% from material experts, 86% from educators, and 90% from students. This paper analyzes the origins and development of the reference service and how it has become the most important practice within libraries. Through a historical investigation that begins in the second half of the nineteenth century and continues beyond the middle of the twentieth century, the diffusion of this activity in its various components and ramifications is outlined, focusing on the application differences present in the various types of library institutions. The research analyzes the causes that led to the birth of this activity, which has completely revolutionized the way of perceiving libraries and their work. Using the sources of the main authors who have dealt with this topic, it is possible to understand the growth of the concept of “assistance” towards readers, its various extensions and above all the consequences that these ideas had on the evolution of the image of libraries within the society.

Librarianship has a propensity to sanitize its history. As evidence for this statement, this article uses the Library Bill of Rights that the American Library Association adopted in 1939 and the School Library Bill of Rights that the American Association of School Librarians adopted in 1955 as lenses through which to view the profession's response to selected events in American library history since 1939. By such means, the article attempts to show that librarianship has manifested a consistent desire to control the narrative surrounding libraries and their defense of intellectual freedom and opposition to censorship. This study aims to explain that interreligious education can be used as an approach in dealing with diversity to end discrimination and racism in a multiethnic society. Interfaith education can increase students' fears about changing religions or losing their own beliefs, as well as foster an understanding of other religions beyond history and culture, while allowing individuals to maintain their own beliefs. In addition, interreligious education must emphasize universal values or principles, such as peace and tolerance. It is a type of qualitative research with a library research model. Research data comes from related books and articles on interfaith education as an approach to ending discrimination and racism. Collection techniques were carried out through reading literature or written sources such as books, previous research, journals, and articles related to the research title. Data analysis with the content analyst. The results of this study state that interfaith education lays the foundation for education as an approach to fighting racism and discrimination. Thus, there is a need to consider religion and education in everyday life to promote more holistic interfaith education and build harmonious coexistence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In more anecdotal histories of the library, individual libraries and collectors tend to fade into an undifferentiated mass of books. In other hands, these libraries might amount to so many examples of biblioclasm, but in the hands of Pettegree and Der Weduwen, these ex-libraries change over time, advancing different narratives as they flicker through the book. As the authors imply through the subtitle, the history of libraries is tenuous, contingent, and determined just as much by the books and readers libraries exclude as those they bring through their doors. In 1912, the John Carter Brown Library (JCB) of Providence, Rhode Island, acquired a machine that would have an "unexpected influence" on library operations. The Photostat was a copying camera that could be used to take and print photographs easily and on site. For the first time, libraries could replicate not just select pages, but entire books. The introduction of this technology to special collections would have, in the words of one user, a revolutionary effect on research and bibliography. Through the lens of the photostat, this article illuminates how librarians in the United States established standards of accuracy for textual copies at the beginning of the twentieth century. It centers on the case of early Americana collections, such as the JCB, which were among the first libraries in the US to photostat historical documents. Motivated by the needs of individual researchers as well as by a national interest in standardizing American history and preserving Indigenous knowledge, these libraries began experimenting with the photostat through the replication of Spanish-, French-, and Indigenous-language documents. As a result, the standards they developed for large scale replication originated in efforts to preserve Indigenous knowledge and to control the international circulation of information. As this article will show, these standards cannot be disentangled from the imperial and post-colonial power structures out of which they emerged. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
