history of Turkish literature since the first day the subject of writing a history of the Turkish literature has been brought to the agenda of Turkish men of letters. The date, which the Turkish literature should be started with, has been one of the main controversial issues. Another issue has been to analyze and understand adequately the extend of the influence of different cultures and consequently religions and philosophies on Turkish literature, which has been entailed by the mightiness of the geographical area on which the Turks live. The fact that, when compared to the past, the Turkish literature poses much more diversity and disunity as a result of political developments since the end of the 19th century and particularly during the 20th century complicates the issue further for the historian of Turkish literature.
