Assuming that there exists a translating soliton u∞ with speed C in a domain Ω and with prescribed contact angle on ∂Ω, we prove that a graphical solution to the mean curvature flow with the same prescribed contact angle converges to u∞ + Ct as t →∞. We also generalize the recent existence result of Gao, Ma, Wang and Weng to non-Euclidean settings under suitable bounds on convexity of Ω and Ricci curvature in Ω.

Abstract: Background: Whether long-term psychodynamic therapy (LPP) and psychoanalysis (PA) differ from each other and require different therapist qualities has been debated extensively, but rarely investigated empirically. Methods: In a quasi-experimental design, LPP was provided for 128 and PA for 41 outpatients, aged 20–46 years and suffering from mood or anxiety disorder, with a 5-year follow-up from start of treatment. Therapies were provided by 58 experienced therapists. Therapist characteristics, measured pre-treatment, were assessed with the Development of Psychotherapists Common Core Questionnaire (DPCCQ). General psychiatric symptoms were assessed as the main outcome measure at baseline and yearly after start of treatment with the Symptom Check List, Global Severity Index (SCL-90-GSI). Results: Professionally less affirming and personally more forceful and less aloof therapists predicted less symptoms in PA than in LPP at the end of the follow-up. A faster symptom reduction in LPP was predicted by a more moderate relational style and work experiences of both skillfulness and difficulties, indicating differences between PA and LPP in the therapy process. Conclusions: Results challenge the benefit of a classically “neutral” psychoanalyst in PA. They also indicate closer examinations of therapy processes within and between the two treatments, which may benefit training and supervision of therapists. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

We report on the emission dynamics of single In(Ga)As quantum dots formed in etched GaAs pits and integrated into micropillar cavities. The site-controlled quantum dots were fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy on nanoimprint lithography patterned GaAs(001) surfaces. Triggered single photon emission confirmed by photon autocorrelation measurements is demonstrated. Time-resolved photoluminescence experiments clearly show an effect of the cavity on the spontaneous emission rate of the quantum dot. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Hybrid structures are widely used since they enable unique combinations of properties for the final structure. Within polymer/metal hybrids, stainless steel instead of more regularly used mild steel or aluminium is a tempting choice but it is difficult to join adhesively. Thus improved solutions for the stainless steel joining with polymeric materials are needed. This study concentrates on the idea of utilisation of thin rubber layer as an adhesive between stainless steel and glass fibre reinforced epoxy composite (GFRP). Both mild steel and stainless steel with different surface finishes together with GFRP laminates were used as substrates for the ethylene propylene diene (EPDM) based rubber. The adhesion and microstructure of the interfaces were characterised. Transmission electron microscopical (TEM) studies indicated that a close contact between the components can be achieved and thus high quality interfaces are created by vulcanising the rubber to the steel or GFRP surface without pre-treatments. Stainless steel/rubber/GFRP hybrid structures where the strength of the steel/GFRP joint is defined by the cohesive strength of the rubber can be manufactured, as seen from the results of the peel tests. Since the fracture is located inside the rubber and not at the interface, the prediction of the structure's behaviour is also easier. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background and Method Results Discussion The experiences of 454 psychotherapy trainees when providing therapy to patients were surveyed in a multinational sample largely from European countries, as part of the collaborative SPRISTAD study, using established measures of trainees' Healing Involvement (HI) and Stressful Involvement (SI).The results of cross‐sectional analyses included the delineation of four differential patterns of therapeutic work involvement showing approximately half the trainees experienced an Effective Practice (high HI, low SI) while the other half experienced either a Challenging Practice (high HI, high SI), a Disengaged Practice (low HI, low SI) or a Distressing Practice (low HI, high SI).Strong‐to‐moderate correlations were found between involvement styles and trainees' individual personal and professional characteristics, and among training programme and workplace situational conditions, and their possible applications to candidate selection and training practices were discussed. A strong association was seen between HI and SI qualities of trainees' therapeutic work and their positive or negative experiences of current professional development. The article focuses on epilepsy in mentally retarded patients. Carbamazepine (CBZ) is currently used in the treatment of various epileptic disorders in all age groups. It is as effective as phenobarbital, phenytoin or primidone in the prevention of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, but significantly more effective than the others in the treatment of complex partial seizures. In a steady-state situation, the half-life of CBZ becomes shorter and the fluctuations in serum concentrations of the drug become more pronounced than in the beginning of the treatment, since CBZ induces its own metabolism.
