BackgroundDue to the widespread and unprecedented popularity of mobile phones, the use of digital medicine and mobile health apps has seen significant growth. Mobile health apps have tremendous potential for monitoring and treating diseases, improving patient care, and promoting health. ObjectiveThis paper aims to explore research trends, coauthorship networks, and the research hot spots of mobile health app research. MethodsPublications related to mobile health apps were retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science database with no language restrictions. Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder was employed to extract bibliographic information (publication year and journal source) and perform a descriptive analysis. We then used the VOSviewer (Leiden University) tool to construct and visualize the co-occurrence networks of researchers, research institutions, countries/regions, citations, and keywords. ResultsWe retrieved 2802 research papers on mobile health apps published from 2000 to 2019. The number of annual publications increased over the past 19 years. JMIR mHealth and uHealth (323/2802, 11.53%), Journal of Medical Internet Research (106/2802, 3.78%), and JMIR Research Protocols (82/2802, 2.93%) were the most common journals for these publications. The United States (1186/2802, 42.33%), England (235/2802, 8.39%), Australia (215/2802, 7.67%), and Canada (112/2802, 4.00%) were the most productive countries of origin. The University of California San Francisco, the University of Washington, and the University of Toronto were the most productive institutions. As for the authors’ contributions, Schnall R, Kuhn E, Lopez-Coronado M, and Kim J were the most active researchers. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of the top 100 keywords forms 5 clusters: (1) the technology and system development of mobile health apps; (2) mobile health apps for mental health; (3) mobile health apps in telemedicine, chronic disease, and medication adherence management; (4) mobile health apps in health behavior and health promotion; and (5) mobile health apps in disease prevention via the internet. ConclusionsWe summarize the recent advances in mobile health app research and shed light on their research frontier, trends, and hot topics through bibliometric analysis and network visualization. These findings may provide valuable guidance on future research directions and perspectives in this rapidly developing field.

This study investigated high-throughput screening of inhibitors for the key enzyme CitE in the synthesis of red yeast citrinin through computer simulation. First, Alphafold 2 was used to build the homology model of CitE. and it was aligned with similar sequences to predict the ligand binding region. Subsequently, a ligand library of 20 000 compounds was constructed by searching for natural ligands and flavonoid skeleton analogues in the Arthur database. Afterwards, molecular docking of the CitE protein to the library of small molecule compounds was performed using Maestro to select potential CitE ligands. Gromacs kinetic simulation was used to evaluate the binding stability, and the binding free energy was calculated using MM/PBSA. The protein-ligand binding mode was analyzed, confirming that six small molecule ligands including quercetin, luteolin, apigenin, genistein, 5,4’-dihydroxyflavone, and fisetin had strong CitE binding activities. The results from solid and liquid state fermentation showed that the above compounds exhibited significant inhibitory activity against Monascus citrinin production. Specifically, the addition of these compounds in solid state fermentation (20 mg/28 g of dry material) resulted in a reduction of Monascus citrinin production by 42.52%, 48.81%, 32.54%, 32.57%, 21.02%, and 13.67%, respectively, while their addition in liquid state fermentation (0.1 g/L) led to a reduction by 33.77%, 15.58%, 33.33%, 62.34%, 58.87%, and 50.22%, respectively. In summary, this study is of reference significance for establishing an efficient and safe Monasucs fermentation system.

In this study, Lactobacillus paracasei FP02, a strain isolated from pickled Chinese cabbage, was tested for its capability to reduce uric acid in vitro, and its physiological and biochemical characteristics were characterized. Furthermore, the effect of this strain on the serum uric acid level of a hyperuricemic (HUA) rat model was explored. The in vitro results showed that L. paracasei FP02 degraded uric acid and its precursor substances, inosine and guanosine, by 29.10%, 67.09%, and 70.48%, respectively, and inhibited xanthine oxidase (XOD) activity by 64.20%. Simultaneously, this strain could ferment various sugars (alcohols) and exhibited good tolerance to gastric acid and bile salts. The 14-day continuous intragastric administration of freeze-dried L. paracasei FP02 powder reduced the serum uric acid concentration by 49.96% compared to the hyperuricemia model group (P < 0.001), which was established by intragastric administration of potassium oxonate combined with high dietary uric acid. After the treatment, the serum uric acid concentration approached the levels observed in the blank control group. Additionally, in the FP02 treatment group, uric acid excretion in the urine increased, and serum XOD activity was significantly inhibited (P < 0.001). Renal sections showed that renal injury was partially restored in the FP02 treatment group. This study will lay the foundation for the development of L. paracasei FP02 as a potential drug or functional food for preventing HUA.

Investigating the fine structure of mitochondria and their dynamic interactions with other organelles is crucial for unraveling the mechanisms underlying mitochondrial-related diseases. The development of super-resolution techniques has provided powerful visualization tools for mitochondrial research, which is significant for investigating mitochondrial cristae structure, the localization of mitochondrial-related protein complex, and the interactions between mitochondria and other organelles. In this perspective, we introduce several advanced super-resolution techniques and their applications in mitochondrial research, and discuss the potential roles these techniques may play in future studies of mitochondria.

BackgroundFor health care providers, mobile image viewing increases image accessibility, which could lead to faster interpretation/consultations and improved patient outcomes. ObjectiveWe explored the technical requirements and challenges associated with implementing a commercial mobile image viewer and conducted a small study testing the hypothesis that the mobile image viewer would provide faster image access. MethodsA total of 19 clinicians (9 radiologists, 3 surgeons, 4 neurologists, and 3 physician assistants) evaluated (1) a desktop commercial picture archiving and communication system (PACS) viewer, (2) a desktop viewer developed internally over 20 years and deployed throughout the enterprise (ENTERPRISE viewer) and (3) a commercial Food and Drug Administration class II-cleared mobile viewer compatible with Web browsers, tablets, and mobile phones. Data were collected during two separate 7-day periods, before and after mobile image viewer deployment. Data included image viewer chosen, time to view first image, technical issues, diagnostic confidence, and ease of use. ResultsFor 565 image-viewing events, ease of use was identical for PACS and mobile viewers (mean 3.6 for all scores of a possible 4.0), and significantly worse for the enterprise viewer (mean 2.9, P=.001). Technical issues were highest with the enterprise viewer (26%, 56/215) compared with the mobile (7%,19/259, P=.001) and PACS (8%, 7/91, P=.003) viewers. Mean time to first image for the mobile viewer (2.4 minutes) was significantly faster than PACS (12.5 minutes, P=.001) and the enterprise viewer (4.5 minutes, P=.001). Diagnostic confidence was similar for PACS and mobile viewers and worst for enterprise viewer. Mobile image viewing increased by sixfold, from 14% (37/269, before the deployment) to 88.9% (263/296, after the deployment). ConclusionsA mobile viewer provided faster time to first image, improved technical performance, ease of use, and diagnostic confidence, compared with desktop image viewers.

Abstract Background This study aimed to identify disease‐causing variants within a Chinese family affected by Birt–Hogg–Dubé syndrome (BHDS), which arises from an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern attributed to variants in the folliculin (FLCN) gene, recognized as a tumor suppressor gene. Methods A Chinese proband diagnosed with BHDS due to renal tumors underwent next‐generation sequencing (NGS), revealing a novel variant in the FLCN gene. Sanger sequencing was subsequently performed on blood samples obtained from family members to confirm the presence of this variant. Results A novel germline frameshift variant (NM_144997.5:c.977dup) was identified in five individuals among the screened family members, marking the first report of this variant. Additionally, a somatic frameshift variant (NM_144997.5:c.1252del) was detected in the renal tumors of the proband. No variant was detected in unaffected family members. Conclusions A novel heterozygous variant was identified in exon 9 of the FLCN gene, which broadens the spectrum of FLCN variants. We recommend that molecular analysis of the FLCN gene be performed in patients with suspected BHDS and their families.
