BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The Child And Diet Evaluation Tool (CADET) is a 24-h food diary that measures the nutrition intake of children aged 3-7 years, with a focus on fruit and vegetable consumption. Until now CADET has not been used to measure nutrient intake of children aged 8-11 years. To ensure that newly assigned portion sizes for this older age group were valid, participants were asked to complete the CADET diary (the school and home food diary) concurrently with a 1-day weighed record. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 67 children with a mean age of 9.3 years (s.d.: ± 1.4, 51% girls) participated in the study. Total fruit and vegetable intake in grams and other nutrients were extracted to compare the mean intakes from the CADET diary and Weighed record using f-tests and Pearson's r correlations. Bland-Altman analysis was also conducted to assess the agreement between the two methods. RESULTS: Correlations comparing the CADET diary to the weighed record were high for fruit, vegetables and combined fruit and vegetables (r =0.7). The results from the Bland-Altman plots revealed a mean difference of 54 g (95% confidence interval: -88, 152) for combined fruit and vegetables intake. CADET is the only tool recommended by the National Obesity Observatory that has been validated in a UK population and provides nutrient level data on children's diets. CONCLUSIONS: The results from this study conclude that CADET can provide high-quality nutrient data suitable for evaluating intervention studies now for children aged 3-11 years with a focus on fruit and vegetable intake. - Abstract
A comprehensive food composition database (FCDB) is essential for assessing dietary intake of nutrients. However, currently available food composition data for Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) is limited. The aim was to develop an Arabic FCDB of foods commonly available in the GCC (initial focus on Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), which will be integrated into an Arabic version of an online dietary assessment tool, myfood24. The Arabic FCDB was built using a standardized approach identifying currently available foods from existing food composition tables (FCTs), research articles, back-of-pack (BOP) nutrient labels on food products, with additional generic food items from the UK Composition of Foods Integrated Database (CoFID). The development of the FCDB used a 6-step approach: food identification, cleaning, mapping, translation, allocating portion sizes, and quality checking. The database includes a total of 2016 food items, 30 % of which have standard portion size images in addition to other options for portion size estimation. The database and myfood24 have been translated into Arabic to be suitable for Arabic users. These tools will help to assess dietary intake for 51 million people in the GCC. Future work will cover more foods from other Middle Eastern countries to serve over 400 million Arabic speakers in the region.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a controversial treatment. Research has predominantly focused on clinician assessment of short-term efficacy and, occasionally, on participant experiences of the treatment itself. While service user accounts of the long-term impacts of ECT are reported, they are dispersed throughout the literature and typically tangential to studie's main foci. The aim of this study was to synthesise service-user accounts, within peer-reviewed literature, of long-term impacts of ECT in their daily lives. A qualitative meta-synthesis was conducted. A systematic literature search identified qualitative articles meeting the inclusion criteria. Results sections of eligible papers were analysed thematically. From 16 eligible papers, the review identified 11 long-term impacts, four social influences and five strategies that people employed to navigate these long-term impacts. Limited research has examined long-term experiences of ECT from service-user perspectives. These lived experience perspectives are required to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and assist future service delivery to align with needs of people living with long-term ECT impacts. - Abstract
Background: Evidence from epidemiological studies investigating associations between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and colorectal cancer is inconsistent. The aim of this study is to assess whether adherence to the Mediterranean dietary pattern is associated with reduced incidence of cancers of the colon and rectum in the UK Women’s Cohort Study. Method: A total of 35 372 women were followed for a median of 17.4 years. A 10-component score indicating adherence to the Mediterranean diet was generated for each cohort participant using a 217-item food frequency questionnaire. The Mediterranean diet score ranged from 0 for minimal adherence to 10 for maximal adherence. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to provide adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for colon and rectal cancer risk. Results: A total of 465 incident colorectal cancer cases were documented. In the multivariable-adjusted model, the test for trend was positive (HR=0.88, 95% CI: 0.78 to 0.99; Ptrend = 0.03) for a 2-point increment in the Mediterranean diet score. For rectal cancer, a 2-point increment in the Mediterranean diet score resulted in an HR (95% CI) of 0.69 (0.56 to 0.86) whilst a 62% linear reduced risk (HR 0.38; 95% CI: 0.20 to 0.74; Ptrend < 0.001) was observed for women within the highest vs. the lowest category of the MD score. Estimates for an association with colon cancer were weak (Ptrend = 0.41). Conclusion: Findings suggest women adhering to a Mediterranean dietary pattern may have a lower risk of colorectal cancer, especially rectal cancer.

The UK government plans to limit price‐based and location‐based promotions for products high in saturated fat, salt and sugars. The 2004/2005 UK Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) is the proposed legislative basis, but may be superseded by the draft 2018 NPM. This study develops an algorithm to apply both NPMs to a large food composition database (FCDB), and assesses implementation challenges. UK NPMs were applied algorithmically to the myfood24 FCDB, representing ~45 000 retail products. Pass rates – indicating free or restricted promotions – and micronutrient compositions were compared. Challenges were assessed, and recommendations addressed the legislation's public consultation questions. For products in scope (75% of total), 6% fewer passed the 2018 NPM (36%, P < 0.001) compared with the 2004/2005 NPM (42%). Beverages showed the greatest reduction in pass rate (75%). Under both models, micronutrient contents (per 100 g of product) were generally lower for products that passed; except folate, vitamin C and vitamin D were no different for passed and failed products. Compared with products passing the 2004/2005 NPM, products passing the 2018 NPM on average had marginally higher amounts of iron (0.05 mg, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.08, P < 0.001) and magnesium (1.00 mg, 95% CI: 0.00, 1.17, P = 0.029), but marginally lower levels of calcium (−0.42 mg, 95% CI: −2.00, −0.40, P = 0.025). Missing ingredient information and heterogeneous product categories were challenges for both NPMs. Free sugars calculation further complicated 2018 NPM application. To balance feasibility and public health benefit, the proposed legislative basis may not be appropriate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
We have searched for the decay of the τ lepton into seven charged particles and zero ot one π0. The data used in the search were collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.61 fb-1. No evidence for a signal is found. Assuming all the charged particles are pions, we set an upper limit on the branching fraction B(τ-→4π-3π+(π 0)vτ)

- Abstract
Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have made a measurement of R ≡ σ(e + e-→hadrons)/σ(e + e-→μ + μ -) = 3.56±0.01±0.07 at √s = 10.52 GeV. This implies a value for the strong coupling constant of αs(10.52 GeV) = 0.20±0.01 ±0.06, or αs(MZ) = 0.13±0.005±0.03.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the HIV-1 RNA pooled nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) strategy to screen pregnant women in the 'window period' of acute HIV infection (AHI) in rural South Africa. METHODS: In 2007 and 2008, 750 consecutive pregnant women on their first antenatal care visit to a primary health care clinic were tested anonymously for HIV infection. HIV-1 RNA pooled NAAT was performed on HIV antibody-negative samples. All positive pools were tested individually and positive samples were classified as incident cases to calculate HIV incidence. RESULTS: The overall HIV prevalence was 37.3% [95% confidence interval (CI) 34.3-41.3]. Of the 467 HIV antibody-negative samples, four (0.9%) were HIV-1 RNA-positive. The mean viral load in the four samples was 386 260 HIV-1 RNA copies/mL (range 64 200-1 228130). The HIV incidence was 11.2%per year (95% CI 0.3-22.1) and all women with AHI were 21 years of age. CONCLUSIONS: Identifying AHI in pregnancy is important for health interventions to reduce perinatal and heterosexual transmission of HIV, and to estimate HIV incidence for epidemiological surveillance.

Using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 3.9 fb-1 collected in e+e annihilation with the CLEO-II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured the branching ratios for the decay modes D+s → (η,η′)π+ and D+s →(η,η′)ρ+ relative to D+s → φπ+. These decay modes are among the most common hadronic decays of the D+s, and can be related by factorization to the semileptonic decays D+s →(η,η′)ℓ+νl. The results obtained are compared with previous CLEO results and with the branching ratios measured for the related semileptonic decays. We also report results on the Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D+ to the same final states.

- Abstract
We have studied semileptonic B meson decays with a p-wave charm meson in the final state using 3.29 × 106 BB̄ events collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage Ring. We find a value for the exclusive semileptonic product branching fraction ℬ(B- → D10ℓ ν̄ℓ)ℬ(D10 → D*+π-) = (0.373 ± 0.085 ± 0.052 ± 0.024)% and an upper limit for ℬ(ℬ- → D2*0ℓ-ν̄ ℓ)ℬ(D2*0 → D*+π) < 0.16% (90% C.L.). Furthermore, we present the first measurement of the q2 spectrum for B- → D10ℓ-ν̄ℓ.

- Abstract
Using 3.1 fb-1 of data accumulated at the Y (4S) by the CLEO-II detector, corresponding to 3.3×106 BB̄ pairs, we have searched for the color-suppressed B hadronic decay processes B̄0→D0(D*0)X0, where X0 is a light neutral meson π0, ρ0, η, η′ or ω. The D*0 mesons are reconstructed in D*0→D0π0 and the D0 mesons in D0→K- π+,K- π+ π0 and K- π+ π+ π- decay modes. No obvious signal is observed. We set 90% C.L. upper limits on these modes, varying from 1.2×10-4 for B̄0→D0π0 to 1.9×10-3 for B̄0→D*0η′.

- Abstract
The decays Y(4S) → ̄BB, followed by B → D* π and D* → Dπ, permit reconstruction of all kinematic quantities that describe the sequence without reconstruction of the D. with reasonably low backgrounds. Using an integrated e+ e- luminosity of 3.1 fb-1 accumulated at the Y(4S) by the CLEO-II detector, we report measurements of B(̄0B → D*+ π-) = (2.81 ± 0.11 ± 0.21 ± 0.05) × 10-3 and B(B → D*0 π) = (4.34 ± 0.33 ± 0.34 ± 0.18) × 10-3.

Canopy interception and its evaporation into the atmosphere during irrigation or a rainfall event are important in irrigation scheduling, but are challenging to estimate using conventional methods. This study introduces a new approach to estimate the canopy interception from measurements of actual total evapotranspiration (ET) using eddy covariance and estimation of the transpiration from measurements of sap flow. The measurements were conducted over a small-scale sprinkler-irrigated cotton field before, during and after sprinkler irrigation. Evaporation and sap flow dynamics during irrigation show that the total ET during irrigation increased significantly because of the evaporation of free intercepted water while transpiration was suppressed almost completely. The difference between actual ET and transpiration (sap flow) during and immediately following irrigation (post irrigation) represents the total canopy evaporation while the canopy interception capacity was calculated as the difference between actual ET and transpiration (sap flow) during drying (post irrigation) following cessation of the irrigation. The canopy evaporation of cotton canopy was calculated as 0.8 mm, and the interception capacity was estimated to be 0.31 mm of water. The measurement uncertainty in both the non-dimensional ET and non-dimensional sap flow was shown to be very low. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Using data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we present the first full angular analysis in the color-suppressed modes B0 → J/ψ K*0 and B+ → J/ψ K*+. This leads to a complete determination of the decay amplitudes of these modes including the longitudinal polarization TL/Γ = 0.52 ± 0.07 ± 0.04 and the P wave component |P|2 = 0.16 ± 0.08 ± 0.04. In addition, we update the branching fractions for B → J/ψ K and B → J/ψ K*.

- Abstract
We use the CLEO detector at the Cornell e+ e- storage ring, CESR, to search for the two-photon production of the glueball candidate fJ(2220) in its decay to KsKs. We present a restrictive upper limit on the product of the two-photon partial width and the KsKs branching fraction, (Γγγ BKsks)fJ(2220). We use this limit to calculate a lower limit on the stickiness, which is a measure of the two-gluon coupling relative to the two-photon coupling. This limit on stickiness indicates that the fJ(2220) has substantial glueball content.

- Abstract
Using data collected in the region of the Y(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector operating at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR), we present the first observation of B mesons decaying into the charmed strange baryons Ξc0 and Ξc+. We find 79 ± 27 Ξc0 and 125 ± 28 Ξc+ candidates from B decays, leading to product branching fractions of ℬ(B̄ → Ξc0X)ℬ(Ξc0 → Ξ-π+ = (0.144 ± 0.048 ± 0.021) × 10-3 and ℬ(B̄ → Ξc+X)ℬ(ΞC+ → Ξ-π+π+) = (0.453 ± 0.096- 0.065+ 0.085) × 10-3.

- Abstract
We report new measurements of the differential and total branching ratios for inclusive B decay to D0, D+, and D*+ and the first measurement of the same quantities for inclusive B decay to D*0. Here B is the mixture of Bd and Ba from Y(4S) decay. Furthermore, since more than one charm particle (or antiparticle) of the same kind can be produced in B decay, here "inclusive B branching ratio" is used to mean the average number of charm particles and their antiparticles of a certain species produced in B decay. We obtain the following results (the first error is statistical, the second systematic of this analysis, the third propagated from other measurements): B(B→D0X) = (0.636±0.014±0.019±0.018), B(B→D+X) = (0.235±0.009±0.009 ±0.024), B(B→D*0X) = (0.247±0.012±0.018±0.018), B(B→D*+X) = (0.239±0.011±0.014±0.009). The following ratio of branching ratios is not affected by most of the systematic errors: B(B→D*0X)/B(B→D*+X) = (1.03±0.07±0.09±0.08). We also report the first measurement of the momentum-dependent D*0 polarization and a new measurement of the D*+ polarization in inclusive B decay. Using these measurements and other CLEO results and making some additional assumptions, we calculate the average number of c and c̄ quarks produced in B decay to be 〈nc〉= 1.10±0.05.

- Abstract
Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell e+e- storage ring CESR we study the two-photon production of ΛΛ̄, making the first observation of γγ→ΛΛ̄. We present the cross section for γγ→ΛΛ̄ as a function of the γγ center of mass energy and compare it to that predicted by the quark-diquark model.

- Abstract
Using e+e- annihilation data collected by the CLEO II detector at CESR, we have observed the decay Ds+ → ωπ+. This final state may be produced through the annihilation decay of the Ds+, or through final state interactions. We find a branching ratio of Γ(Ds+ → ωπ+)/Γ(Ds+ → ηπ+) = 0.16 ± 0.04 ± 0.03, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

- Abstract
We have searched for lepton flavor violating decays of the τ lepton with one or two KS 0 mesons in the final state. The data used in the search were collected with the CLEO II and II.V detectors at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 13.9 fb-1 at the Y (4S) resonance. No evidence for signals were found; therefore, we have set 90% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the branching fractions Β(τ- → e- K S 0)

- Abstract
We have studied the decay B̄ → Dlv̄, where l = e or μ. From a fit to the differential decay rate dΓ/dw we measure the rate normalization FD(1)|Vcb| and form factor slope ρ̂D2, and, using measured values of τB, find Γ(B̄ → Dlv̄) = (12.0 ± 0.9 ± 2.1) ns-1. The resulting branching fractions are B(B̄0 → D+l-v̄) = (1.87 ± 0.15 ± 0.32)% and B(B- → D0l v̄) = (1.94 ± 0.15 ± 0.34)%. The form factor parameters are in agreement with those measured in B̄ → D*lv̄ decays, as predicted by heavy quark effective theory.
