Currently, the construction and operation of buildings are responsible for 36% of global final energy usage and nearly 40% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. From the perspective of sustainable development, and taking into account economy and thermal comfort, it is crucial to consider the influence of multi-objective realization on design parameters. In this paper, high-rise residential buildings in the cities of Xi’an and Yulin, which have differences in solar radiation, in the western solar enrichment area of China are taken as the research objects. The four objectives of building energy consumption, thermal comfort, life-cycle cost, and life-cycle carbon emissions are weighed using the SPEA-2 algorithm by adjusting eleven design variables, thereby obtaining the Pareto non-dominated solutions. The TOPSIS method is applied to obtain the suitable parameter combinations under different scenarios. The results show that the differences in climate and solar radiation influence the solution distribution, the range of objective function values, and the values of the design variables in Pareto non-dominated solutions. The obtained optimal scheme for the Xi’an area has an energy-saving rate of 61.7%, a TDHP improvement rate of 20.3%, an LCC of 254.8 CNY/m2, and an LCCO2 of 72.3 kgCO2/m2. The corresponding values in the Yulin area are 69.7%, 19.4%, 230.2 CNY/m2, and 0 kgCO2/m2. This reflects the potential of solar energy utilization to reduce buildings’ energy consumption and carbon emissions. The methodology and findings can provide references for high-rise residential building design in Northwestern China.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the antidepressant effect of hydroxyl safflower yellow A on rats induced by lipopolysaccharide. Methods: The depression model of rats was established by intraperitoneal injection of LPS. The normal control group, the model group, the positive control group and the hydroxyl safflower yellow A groups with different doses were set up, and the depression like behavior of rats was evaluated. The contents of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and BDNF, 5-HT in serum of rats were determined, and the histopathological changes of hippocampus were observed. The protein expression of TLR/NLR signaling pathway was detected. Results: Compared with the depression model group, the horizontal movement, vertical movement and sucrose preference of rats in each dose group of hydroxyl safflower yellow A group were increased, while tail suspension and swimming immobility time were decreased (P＜0.01). the serum levels of BDNF and 5-HT were increased while the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 levels were decreased (P＜0.01). The protein expression levels of TLR2, NLRP1, NLRP3, ASC, TLR4 and Caspase-1 in hippocampus tissue were decreased (P＜0.01). Conclusion: Hydroxyl safflower yellow A can improve the depression-like behavior of rats induced by LPS, and the mechanism may be related to the inhibition of TLR/NLR signaling pathway.

Objective: In order to solve the problem of poor stability, high cost and small gas flow of ternary gas mixing equipment. Methods: A ternary gas mixing system based on the ideal gas law and Dalton's law of partial pressure was proposed, and the system calculated errors and adjusted parameters by the designed algorithm, and adopted the connection of cylinder, sensor and so on. Results: After adjusting the mixing according to the relative deviation, the average relative deviation of the gas concentration of CO2 and O2 was 0.86% and 0.75% respectively, and the gas concentration accuracy met the technical requirements of ＜1%, and the high-precision gas mixing of the ternary gas can be better achieved. Conclusion: The system can realize rapid and stepless regulation of ternary gas, and high-precision continuous mixing.

BackgroundSuccinate dehydrogenase (SDH), one of the key enzymes in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, is mainly found in the mitochondria. SDH consists of four subunits encoding SDHA, SDHB, SDHC, and SDHD. The biological function of SDH is significantly related to cancer progression. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors globally, whose most common histological subtype is colon adenocarcinoma (COAD). However, the correlation between SDH factors and COAD remains unclear.MethodsThe data on pan-cancer was obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed the prognostic ability of SDHs. The cBioPortal database reflected genetic variations of SDHs. The correlation analysis was conducted between SDHs and mitochondrial energy metabolism genes (MMGs) and the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was built. Consequently, Univariate and Multivariate Cox Regression Analysis on SDHs and other clinical characteristics were conducted. A nomogram was established. The ssGSEA analysis visualized the association between SDHs and immune infiltration. Immunophenoscore (IPS) explored the correlation between SDHs and immunotherapy, and the correlation between SDHs and targeted therapy was investigated through Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer. Finally, qPCR and immunohistochemistry detected SDHs’ expression.ResultsAfter assessing SDHs differential expression in pan-cancer, we found that SDHB, SDHC, and SDHD benefit COAD patients. The cBioPortal database demonstrated that SDHA was the top gene in mutation frequency rank. Correlation analysis mirrored a strong link between SDHs and MMGs. We formulated a nomogram and found that SDHB, SDHC, SDHD, and clinical characteristics correlated with COAD patients’ survival. For T helper cells, Th2 cells, and Tem, SDHA, SDHB, SDHC, and SDHD were significantly enriched in the high expression group. Moreover, COAD patients with high SDHA expression were more suitable for immunotherapy. And COAD patients with different SDHs’ expression have different sensitivity to targeted drugs. Further verifying the gene and protein expression levels of SDHs, we found that the tissues were consistent with the bioinformatics analysis.ConclusionsOur study analyzed the expression and prognostic value of SDHs in COAD, explored the pathway mechanisms involved, and the immune cell correlations, indicating that SDHs might be biomarkers for COAD patients.

BACKGROUND: Whey protein isolate (WPI) generally represents poor functional properties such as thermal stability, emulsifying activity and antioxidant activity near its isoelectric point or high temperatures, which limit its application in the food industry. The preparation of WPI–polysaccharide covalent conjugates based on Maillard reaction is a promising method to improve the physical and chemical stability and functional properties of WPI. In this research, WPI–inulin conjugates were prepared through wet heating method and ultrasound method and their structural and functional properties were examined. RESULTS: In conjugates, the free amino acid content was reduced, the high molecular bands were emerged at sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE), new C–N bonds were formed in Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and fluorescence intensity was reduced compared with WPI. Furthermore, the result of circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy also showed that the secondary structure of conjugates was changed. Conjugates with ultrasound treatment had better structural properties compared with those prepared by wet heating treatment. The functional properties such as thermal stability, emulsifying activity index (EAI), emulsion stability (ES) and antioxidant activity of conjugates with wet heating treatment were significantly improved compared with WPI. The EAI and ES of conjugates with ultrasound treatment were the highest, but the thermal stability and antioxidant activity were only close to that of the conjugates with wet heating treatment for 2 h. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that WPI–inulin conjugates prepared with ultrasound or wet heating method not only changed the structural characteristics of WPI but also could promote its functional properties including thermal stability, EAI, ES and antioxidant activity. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. BackgroundPyroptosis has been demonstrated to be an inflammatory form of programmed cell death recently. However, the expression of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) and their correlations with prognosis remain unclear.MethodsData of COAD patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Univariate Cox regression analysis and the LASSO Cox regression analysis were applied to construct a gene signature. All COAD patients in TCGA cohort were separated into low-risk subgroup or high-risk subgroup via the risk score. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves were adopted to assess its prognostic efficiency. COAD data from the GSE17537 datasets was used for validation. A prognostic nomogram was established to predict individual survival. The correlation between PRGs and immune cell infiltration in COAD was verified based on TIMER database. CIBERSORT analysis was utilized on risk subgroup as defined by model. The protein and mRNA expression level of PRGs were verified by HPA database and qPCR.ResultsA total of 51 differentially expressed PRGs were identified in TCGA cohort. Through univariate Cox regression analysis and LASSO Cox regression analysis, a prognostic model containing 7 PRGs was constructed. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis indicated that patients in the low-risk subgroup exhibited better prognosis compared to those in the high-risk subgroup. Additionally, the area under the curve (AUC) of ROC is 0.60, 0.63, and 0.73 for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival in TCGA cohort and 0.63, 0.65, and 0.64 in validation set. TIMER database showed a strong correlation between 7 PRGs and tumor microenvironment in COAD. Moreover, CIBERSORT showed significant differences in the infiltration of plasma cells, M0 macrophages, resting dendritic cells, and eosinophils between low-risk subgroup and high-risk subgroup. HPA database showed that protein expression level of SDHB, GZMA, BTK, EEF2K, and NR1H2 was higher in normal tissues. And the transcriptional level of CASP5, BTK, SDHB, GZMA, and RIPK3 was high in normal tissues.ConclusionsOur study identified a novel PRGs signature that could be used to predict the prognosis of COAD patients, which might provide a new therapeutic target for the treatment of COAD patients.

Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL), nasal type, is an Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-associated aggressive form of lymphoma that primarily involves areas outside the nasal cavity. Skin is also commonly involved resulting in a variety of skin manifestations. Here, we report an ENKTL, nasal type, in a 29-year-old male with a previously undescribed acneiform presentation. Skin biopsy revealed an angiodestructive, perivascular lymphocytic infiltration, which stained positive for CD3, CD56, and TIA-1 in various proportions. Scattered EBV-infected cells were demonstrated by in situ hybridization. The patient received chemotherapy with almost complete resolution of the skin lesions initially but later experienced flare-ups.
