Point defects in nanoparticles have long been hypothesized to play an important role in governing the particle's electronic structure and physicochemical properties. However, single point defects in material systems usually exist with other heterogeneities, obscuring the chemical role of the effects. Herein, we report the synthesis of novel atomically precise, copper hydride nanoclusters (NCs), [Cu28H10(C7H7S)18(TPP)3] (Cu28; TPP: triphenylphosphine; C7H7S: o‐thiocresol) with a defined defect in the gram scale via a one‐pot reduction method. The Cu28 acts as a highly selective catalyst for C−C cross‐couplings. The work highlights the potential of defective NCs as model systems for investigating individual defects, correlating defects with physiochemical properties, and rationally designing new nanoparticle catalysts. Hierarchical AuZn dendrites revealed electrocatalytic properties towards the glucose oxidation and the four-electron O2 reduction. The micro fuel cell using AuZn electrodes generated a power density of 2.07 and 0.29 mW cm−2 for glucose and human whole blood. A simple detection method of ascorbic acid (AA) through selective catalytic oxidation has been developed using a novel conducting polymer poly-3′-(2-aminopyrimidyl)-2,2′:5′,2'-terthiophene (pAPTT). The pAPTT electrode showed an excellent selectivity in facilitating the electron transfer of AA and blocked the interferences of cationic species due to the positively charged pAPTT film. This method proved to be effective in the determination of AA in the presence of various biological interfering species. The dynamic range of AA detection was from 10 to 200 µM and the detection limit was 1.4±0.06 µM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
