An experiment was conducted with 32 week-old 470 ISA-Babcock B380 laying hens, housed in floor pens with wheat-straw litter, to study the replacement of the antibiotic growth promoter (bacitracin zinc 30 ppm) with sodium butyrate (300 g/ton) in the diet. Results in 24 weeks of experimentation were similar between treatments (P > 0.05), in: egg production (92.6 and 91.9%), egg weight (63.0 and 62.9 g), egg mass / bird / day (58.4 and 57.7 g), feed consumption / bird / day (123.6 and 124.3 g), feed conversion (2.11 and 2.15), egg albumen quality (Haugh Units 82.9 and 83), yolk color DSM fan (10.3 and 9.9), shell thickness (0.392 and 0.394 mm) and weight of the shell (6.26 and 8.03 g). According to information obtained in 24 weeks with 32 week old hens, the addition of sodium butyrate to feed as a substitute for the growth promoter (bacitracin zinc), was similar in the productive performance and egg quality. In this study, productive performance, quality of eggs and histological analysis of intestinal villi of the duodenum (length and width) was evaluated in Bovans laying hens of 63 weeks of age, with the addition of butyrate in the diet ( 0, 300, 500 ppm). The results obtained in ten weeks of experimentation showed a response (P < 0.05) on egg production percentaje (86.4, 92.2 and 89.6), egg weight (63.4, 63.4 and 64.1 g), feed consumption/bird/day (111.4, 111.9 and 113.4 g), feed conversion (2.09, 1.95 and 2.03), micro-fractures percentaje (20.8, 14.9 and 12.9), broken eggs percentaje (2.6, 2.1 and 0.6), length of villi (1.15, 1.22 and 1.32 mm) and villi width (0.467, 0.500 and 0.532 mm) to the addition of butyrate. These results indicate the beneficial effect of butyrate in laying hens in the last third of its first production cycle. From information obtained in this study, it is concluded that sodium butyrate on diets at 500 ppm for Bovans laying hens of 63 weeks of age, improves the productive performance, shell quality and intestinal villi integrity. A research study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell walls (ScCw) at 500 g/t and avilamycin as a growth promoter antibiotic(GPA), at 10 ppm, in sorghum + soybean meal diets for broiler chicks, on live production performance at 21 days of age, as well as on length, width, number and area of intestinal villi at 10 and 21 days. A total of 200 one-dayold broiler chicks were allocated in batteries and distributed in a completely randomized design, consisting of a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with five repetitions of 10 birds each one. The factors were the presence and absence of ScCw and GPA for the productive variables. The intestinal villi data were analyzed as a completely randomized design with repeated measurements at ten or 21 days of age. Results of productive variables showed differences (P < 0.05) in body weight (660 vs 683 g) and feed conversion (1.47 vs 1.41 g/g), in favor of birds that consumed the diet with GPA. The addition of ScCw improved (P < 0.05) body weight (662 vs 681 g). The greater the age of birds (21 vs 10 days), the greater (P < 0.05) the width (264 vs 398 µ ), number (41.7 vs 45.2 n) and area (26.2 vs 44.5 10³µ²) of intestinal villi; the effect of ScCw was manifested at 21 days with a larger area of villi. An experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the addition of phytase (750 units FYT) from Peniophora lycii to sorghum-soybean meal diets deficient in inorganic phosphorus (Pi) for starting broilers and its effect on performance, apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and apparent ileal digestibility of protein (PC) and amino acids (AA). One hundred and sixty broilers (80 males and 80 females), mixed Ross breed, from 1 to 19 days old were employed. The experiment had 4 treatments with 4 replicates each. The experimental design was completely randomized with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. One factor was calcium levels (Ca) (two levels) and Pi (normal and deficient) and the other factor the addition or not of phytase. The normal levels of Ca and Pi in the diet were 1.0% and 0.50%, respectively; for the deficient diet they were 0.9% Ca and 0.40% Pi. The addition of phytase in the diet was 0.0 and 750 FYT/kg. The results, on weight gain from 1 to 19 days, were lower (P < 0.01) with Pi deficiency and improved with the addition of phytase. A beneficial effect was also found in feed conversion (P < 0.05) and AME (P < 0.051) with the addition of phytase. The ileal apparent digestibility coefficient of PC, essential and non essential AA, ash content as well as calcium in the tibia, were not different (P > 0.05) among factors. Data obtained showed that the addition of 750 FYT/kg of phytase on starting broiler diets allows a reduction of Pi content (0.1%), while improving weight gain, feed conversion and AME. In order to evaluate the performance early egg production in the white Bovans hen fed diets with different levels of metabolizable energy (ME) and digestible methionine + cystine (AAD), to reduce the percentage of small eggs (<42 g ), three hundred and eighty four (384) hens 19-wk of age were used in a completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement of 4 X 2 where the first factor were the levels of ME (2700, 2800, 2900, 3000 Kcal/kg) and the second factor was the inclusion of two levels of ADD (0.45, 0.61). Each treatment had four replications of 12 hens each. Egg production, egg weight, feed intake, egg mass and feed conversion were weekly measured for 8 wk, moreover, were classified according to egg weight. The results showed no effect for main factors and level of interaction between ME and the AAD for productive traits; an effect was found for feed intake and energy levels of sulfur amino acid levels (P<0.05). Higher levels of 2900 and 3000 ME kcal/kg (29.6 and 30.4 % respectively) reduced the percentage of small eggs. Percentage of large eggs was increased in 3 % by using diets with 0.61 % AAD level (P<0.05). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to study the productive performance in broilers and hens fed DDGS, two experiments were conducted: In Exp 1, 704 Ross chicks were used from 1 to 49 d of age, divided in four treatments with eight replicates of 22 birds each one, in a completely randomized design. The treatments were: T1) sorghum-soybean meal basal diet, T2) as 1 +7% DDGS, T3) as 1 +14% DDGS, 4) as 1 +21 % DDGS. In Exp 2, 288 hens Bovans White 35 wk of age were used, kept in cages for 56 d of experimentation. A completely randomized design with four treatments and three replicates of 12 hens each one was used. The treatments were: 1) sorghum-soybean meal basal diet, 2) as 1 +3% DDGS, 3) as 1 +6% DDGS, 4) as 1 +9% DDGS. The results in Exp 1, indicated (P>0.05) than the addition of 7 % of GSDS, did not affect performance and carcass yield. The results in Exp 2 showed that the use of 3, 6 and 9 % of DDGS (P>0.05) did not affect performance. There was a beneficial effect (P>0.05) in the pigmentation of egg yolk, being higher in DDGS treatments. With the results obtained in this study, we conclude that the addition of DDGS in sorghum-soybean meal diets until 7 % in broilers and 9 % in laying hens is an alternative source of protein and energy.
