Abstract

Much research has in recent years been devoted to better our understanding of the intricate relationships between ecology and the evolutionary success of species. These explorations have often focused on understanding the complex interplay among ecological factors and evolutionary rhythms of the species in various environments. Central to these studies is the concept of the survival of the fittest, proposed by Charles Darwin, where evolutionary circumstances, often portrayed as social dilemmas, favour the welfare of self-interested over others. To further advance this line of research, we here develop a theoretical framework that features three interconnected traits in an evolutionary setting, namely: prey, predator and parasite, each adopting distinct strategies akin to a social dilemma and resembling a Rock-Paper-Scissors scenario. These traits, which we term strategic species, adhere to the eco-evolutionary game dynamics. We further extend our analysis by conducting a sensitivity assessment of the system's payoff parameters using the Sobol indices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Most of the previous studies on the stability analysis of synchronization in static or time-varying networks are based on the master stability function approach, which is a semi-analytical concept. The necessary and sufficient conditions for synchronization in time-varying networks are challenging problems since the last few years. We focus on the stability analysis of synchronization in time-varying networks, particularly long-range networks. The use of dichotomy theory to derive sufficient conditions for synchronization in this context is an interesting approach. The incorporation of long-range interactions adds complexity and might lead to larger regions of synchronization, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of such networks. Analyzing the co-action of the time-varying nature in the network topology and long-range interactions is a relevant and challenging task, especially when the network is not synchronized. This work appears to explore the interplay between these factors and their impact on synchronization. Additionally, the numerical study considering long-range connections governed by a power-law within the framework of an Erdös–Rényi random network is a practical way to validate and test the analytical results. Abstract

Investigating the time–frequency-based phase synchronization between nonstationary time series of the cryptocurrencies' prices can be a suitable tool to reveal their complicated interactions at different frequencies. In this work, the phase synchronization between 25 cryptocurrencies with the highest capitalization from December 1, 2021 to June 1, 2022 is calculated using the phase-locking value method based on wavelet transform. Then, utilizing the graph theory, the cryptocurrency networks are constructed, and their topological features like path length (PL), clustering coefficient (CC) and node strength are evaluated in various frequencies. This research indicates a strong phase synchronization between the investigated cryptocurrencies, especially in low frequencies. Also, the networks' high average CC and short PL compared to their equivalent regular and random networks display the small-worldness of the networks. We observe from the obtained results that Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance currencies, among the most popular cryptocurrencies, have the highest average node strengths at different frequencies. Also, TRON shows the lowest CC and node strength among all currencies, representing its limited phase interaction with other currencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Synchronization is one of the emerging collective phenomena in interacting particle systems. Its ubiquitous presence in nature, science, and technology has fascinated the scientific community over the decades. Moreover, a great deal of research has been, and is still being, devoted to understand various physical aspects of the subject. In particular, the study of interacting active particles has led to exotic phase transitions in such systems which have opened up a new research front-line. Motivated by this line of work, in this paper, we study the directional synchrony among self-propelled particles. These particles move inside a bounded region, and crucially their directions are also coupled with spatial degrees of freedom. We assume that the directional coupling between two particles is influenced by the relative spatial distance which changes over time. Furthermore, the nature of the influence is considered to be both short and long-ranged. We explore the phase transition scenario in both the cases and propose an approximation technique which enables us to analytically find the critical transition point. The results are further supported with numerical simulations. Our results have potential importance in the study of active systems like bird flocks, fish schools, and swarming robots where spatial influence plays a pertinent role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Synchronization has received a lot of attention from the scientific community for systems evolving on static networks or higher-order structures, such as hypergraphs and simplicial complexes. In many relevant real world applications, the latter are not static but do evolve in time, in this paper we thus discuss the impact of the time-varying nature of high-order structures in the emergence of global synchronization. To achieve this goal we extend the master stability formalism to account, in a general way, for the additional contributions arising from the time evolution of the higher-order structure supporting the dynamical systems. The theory is successfully challenged against two illustrative examples, the Stuart-Landau nonlinear oscillator and the Lorenz chaotic oscillator.
