In broadband terahertz waves generated by femtosecond lasers, spatial chirp will be simultaneously produced with the introduction of angular dispersion. The chirp characteristics of the terahertz wave will directly affect the frequency response, bandwidth response, and intensity response of the terahertz sensor. To enhance the capability of terahertz sensors, it is necessary to control and improve the chirped characteristics of broadband terahertz sources. We generate a chirped terahertz wave via optical rectification in a LiNbO3 prism using the technique of pulse front tilt. The effect of the pump-beam spot size on THz generation is systematically studied. The pump's spot size is manipulated using a telescope system. With a pump spot diameter of 1.8 mm, the scanning spectrum of the THz pulse is narrower and is divided into multiple distinct peaks. In contrast, using a pump spot diameter of 3.7 mm leads to increased efficiency in the generation of THz pulses. It is crucial to enhance the efficiency of terahertz radiation in a single crystal for the application of intense field terahertz waves. We devise a trapezoidal lithium niobate prism that, upon side incidence of the terahertz wave, retroreflects the femtosecond laser onto the crystal's symmetric plane. The conversion efficiency of pump power to THz pulse power for circular cavity increases by 36% compared to that of the conventional cavity. An effective approach to manipulate terahertz (THz) waves involves the utilization of a device structure. In this particular investigation, we have successfully fabricated a SnS2 nanofilm device using femtosecond laser direct ablation. The passive and active polarization‐sensitive characteristics of the SnS2 nanofilm device were examined within the THz frequency range, employing different line spaces of 500, 600, and 700 μm. The combination of the device effect and SnS2 absorption led to an enhanced passive polarization modulation. Moreover, when an external electric field was applied to the SnS2 nanofilm device along the device line, persistent switching and linear modulation of THz wave transmission were observed. These findings indicate that the integration of material properties and device structure in this SnS2 device renders it highly suitable for applications in ultrafast THz switches, filters, and modulation devices. The increasing enhancement in the modulation accuracy of spatial light modulators has garnered significant attention towards real-time control technology for light fields based on these modulators. It has been demonstrated that this technology possesses a remarkable capability to generate vector beams with arbitrary complex amplitude distributions. Nevertheless, past studies indicate that the generation of only one vector beam at a time has been observed. The simultaneous generation of numerous vector light fields can give rise to several challenges, including compromised picture quality, limited single-mode operation, and intricate optical path configurations. In pursuit of this objective, we present a novel methodology that integrates the coding methodology of modified off-axis interferometric holography with the idea of optical superposition. This technique facilitates the concurrent generation of several vector beams. In this study, we present a demonstration of the simultaneous creation of twelve vector beams using a single spatial light modulator (SLM) as a proof of concept. Significantly, this technology has the ability to generate an unlimited quantity of vector light fields concurrently under the assumption that the resolution of the SLM does not impose any limitations. The findings indicate that the imaging quality achieved by this technology is of a high standard. Due to the low photon energy in the relevant frequency band, fewer materials can directly excite carriers, and an extreme lack of high‐performance, large‐area detectors, limit the promotion, and development of 6G technology. In addition, flexible detectors with the integration of 6G communication and Internet of Things technology has good prospects for application in the development of optoelectronic devices, which are also urgently needed. A large‐area flexible thin layer terahertz detector is designed that combines the advantages of excellent optoelectronic performance in the detection of electromagnetic waves with low photon energy and the localized surface plasmon (LSP) effect in a sub‐wavelength structure detector. Due to the large effective area, the spiral electrode device demonstrates the best performance at room temperature. The noise equivalent power (NEP) and photoresponsivity (RV) are achieved with 0.4 pW Hz−1/2 and 154 MV W−1 at 0.28 THz. A novel experimental setup for the generation of arbitrary vector beams is proposed. The system major includes two reflective liquid crystal spatial light modulators (RLC-SLM) and a polarizing beam splitting prism. Moreover, this method is not limited by the wavelength of light wave and the pixel size of SLM. Theoretical analysis shows that when Gaussian beam or a plane beam is illuminated on a computer-generated hologram (CGH) specially designed in this work, the complex amplitudes of the vector field's two orthogonal polarization components may be changed by modifying the encoding parameters, resulting in a vector beam with arbitrary complex amplitude and polarization in the output field. The experimental results also show that the two independent coding channels of the device have good polarization-selective imaging ability, which greatly improves the flexibility of generating arbitrary vector beams. Aim: To evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of a booster dose of live attenuated varicella vaccine (VarV) manufactured by Sinovac (Dalian) Vaccine Technology Co. Ltd., and the immune persistence of a primary dose in 2- to 6-year-old children. Methods: A phase IV, open-label study was conducted in China. Children previously vaccinated with a single dose of VarV at 1~3 years old received one dose of homologous VarV in the first year, the second year, or the third year after the primary immunization as booster immunization. Immune persistence was evaluated in an immune persistence analysis set, while immunogenicity was evaluated in a per-protocol analysis set, and safety was evaluated in a safety analysis set. The primary endpoint was the seropositive rate and the seroconversion rate of VarV antibody. The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02981836). Results: From July 2018 to August 2020, a total of 849 vaccinated children received the booster vaccination of VarV, one booster dose for each child (301 vaccinated in the first year after primary immunization (Group 1), 276 vaccinated in the second year after primary immunization (Group 2), 272 vaccinated in the third year after primary immunization (Group 3)). The seropositive rates were 99.34%, 97.83%, and 98.16% in Groups 1–3, with GMTs of 1:22.56, 1:18.49, and 1:18.45, respectively. Thirty days after the vaccine booster dose, the seropositive rates of the three groups were all 100% and the seroconversion rates were 52.54%, 67.46%, and 66.67%, with GMTs of 1:68.49, 1:76.32 and 1:78.34, respectively. The seroconversion rates in Groups 2 and 3 were both higher than that in Group 1 (p = 0.0005 and p = 0.0008). The overall incidence of adverse reactions was 7.77%, with 7.64%, 8.33%, and 7.35% in Groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The main symptom among adverse reactions was fever, the incidence of which ranged from 5.07% to 6.64% in each group, and no vaccine-related serious adverse events occurred. Conclusions: VarV had good immune persistence in 1~3 years after primary immunization. A vaccine booster dose for children aged 1~3 years after primary immunization recalled specific immune response to varicella-zoster virus, with no safety concerns increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Terahertz parametric oscillator (TPO) with a rhombic ring-cavity is demonstrated. The oscillating cavity is composed of three mirrors and the terahertz emitting-surface. Terahertz frequency can be tuned from 0.9 THz to 2.9 THz just by shifting the position of a cavity mirror. Under a certain round-trip optical length of the Stokes beam, the pump beam size can be larger in the rhombic ring-cavity TPO than that in the conventional resonant-cavity TPO. The maximum terahertz pulse energy in the rhombic ring-cavity TPO is 3.21 ÎĽ J, which is about 3 times higher than that in the conventional resonant-cavity TPO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper reports an intracavity terahertz parametric source based on the stimulated polariton scattering in RbTiOPO4 crystal with a high repetition rate and a high average power. The side pumping for the gain medium by laser diodes is adopted to get a higher fundamental power and a larger fundamental laser beam size than those in the diode-end-pumping in order to improve the THz output power. A non-collinear convex-plane fundamental cavity is adopted so that the thermal effect can be offset in some degree and the fundamental beam size is further increased. The obtained maximum average THz output power is 367 μW at 3.88 THz when the diode pump power is 105 W and the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is 7 kHz. The process-specific emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a petroleum refinery in the Pearl River Delta, China was monitored to assess the health risk from VOCs to workers of this refinery. Over 60 VOCs were detected in the air samples collected from various sites in the refining, basic chemical, and wastewater treatment areas of the refinery using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/flame ionization detection. The health risks of VOCs to the refinery workers were assessed using US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) methods. Monte Carlo simulation and sensitivity analysis were implemented to assess the uncertainty of the health risk estimation. The emission results showed that C5-C6 alkanes, including 2-methylpentane (17.6%), 2,3-dimethylbutane (15.4%) and 3-methylpentane (7.7%), were the major VOCs in the refining area. p -Diethylbenzene (9.3%), 2-methylpentane (8.1%) and m -diethylbenzene (6.8%) were dominant in the basic chemical area, and 2-methylpentane (20.9%), 2,3-dimethylbutane (11.4%) and 3-methylpentane (6.5%) were the most abundant in the wastewater treatment area. For the non-cancer risk estimated using the US EPA method, the total hazard ratio in the basic chemical area was the highest (3.1 × 10 3 ), owing to the highest level of total concentration of VOCs. For the cancer risk, the total cancer risks were very high, ranging from 2.93 × 10 −3 (in the wastewater treatment area) to 1.1 × 10 −2 (in the basic chemical area), suggesting a definite risk. Using the ACGIH method, the total occupational exposure cancer risks of VOCs in the basic chemical area were the highest, being much higher than those of refining and wastewater treatment areas. Among the areas, the total occupational exposure risks in the basic chemical and refining areas were >1, which suggested a cancer threat to workers in these areas. Optical projection tomography (OPT) is an advanced three-dimensional (3D) imaging technology, which uses the filtered backprojection (FBP) algorithm to recover the 3D volume with sufficient number of projections. As to in vivo imaging, it is urgent to reduce the number of projections because the acquisition time could be minimized. However, reconstructing from undersampled OPT data can lead to artifacts and the decline in image quality. The simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique (SIRT) is introduced to remove artifacts and improve the image quality. The image qualities reconstructed from FBP and SIRT separately are compared, and the structural similarity and peak signal-to-noise ratio are calculated. Through simulated phantoms and OPT data of in vivo zebrafish embryo, SIRT consistently outperforms FBP in terms of reduced artifacts and enhanced image contrast especially when the projection numbers are reduced. SIRT method can provide high-quality reconstruction with 50 or fewer projections, thereby significantly reducing the minimum acquisition time and light dose while maintaining reconstruction quality. Through optimization and GPU acceleration, the SIRT algorithm can converge faster so as to reduce the image processing time. To our knowledge, this is the first time one SIRT algorithm is used for reconstruction of sparse OPT data. The experimental results show that SIRT algorithm outperform FBP especially when the number of projections is reduced. ABSTRACT Poly(acrylamide/sodium acrylate/ N-dodecyl acrylamide)s [poly(AM/NaAA/C12AM)s] with different hydrophobic microblock lengths ( NH's) were prepared by the micellar copolymerization of acrylamide and sodium acrylate with a low amount of N-dodecyl acrylamide (0.2 mol %), and the molecular structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H-NMR, and static light scattering. A combination of experiments involving viscosity measurement, fluorescence, and conductometry was applied to investigate the effect of NH on the interaction strength and binding capacity between poly(AM/NaAA/C12AM)s and C12H25SO4Na [sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)]. The viscosity, I3/ I1 (the intensity ratio of the third vibrational band to the first band of pyrene molecules), and conductivity of the mixed system of copolymers with SDS all had different variation trends with the concentration of SDS. The binding capacity of the copolymers with SDS was calculated according to quantitative differences between the critical micelle concentration of the pure SDS solution and the mixed system. A specialty optical taper is proposed for optical signal acquisition in fiber sensors, optical communication and laser radar etc. Based on the profile curve equation of specialty optical taper, the internal focus coupling efficiency has been analyzed by using the ray-tracing method. Considering the Fresnel reflection loss, the relationships among the internal focus depth, taper length, shape factor, large-end radius, small-end radius, radial displacement, and coupling efficiency are analyzed, respectively. The results show that the internal focus coupling efficiency can be close to 100% as a certain range of incidence angle varies in radial directions. This paper reports the characteristics of an injection-seeded terahertz parametric oscillator (TPO) with a ring-cavity configuration based on the MgO:LiNbO3 crystal. The ring cavity is constituted of three mirrors and the THz wave output surface where the pump and Stokes beams are totally reflected. The THz pulse energies and the Stokes pulse energies as functions of the pump pulse energy for different seed powers of 47.5 mW, 150.7 mW, and 312.8 mW were investigated. The experimental results showed that the injection-seeded ring cavity TPO exhibited the benefits of lower pump thresholds and higher output energies for the Stokes and THz waves. In this paper, a KTiOPO4 (KTP) crystal is used as the nonlinear medium in an intracavity-pumped terahertz parametric oscillator (TPO) based on stimulated polariton scattering (SPS). Almost all the reported intracavity SPS sources adopt the diode-end pumped configuration, and the THz output power is limited by the serious thermal effect and small fundamental beam size. For improving the THz output power, we propose diode-side pumping for the laser medium to get a higher fundamental power and a larger fundamental beam size. A convex–plane fundamental laser resonator is used to further offset the thermal effect and increase the fundamental beam size. The THz frequency of the intracavity-pumped KTP terahertz parametric oscillator can be discontinuously tuned from 3.19 THz to 5.94 THz with three gaps. The fundamental beam diameter in the KTP crystal is about 1.3 mm. The maximum average THz power is 166 μW at 5.74 THz under a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 6 kHz and a diode pump power of 98 W. By means of the diode-side pumped configuration, the maximum THz output power is more than two-fold higher compared to the diode-end pumped configuration reported using the KTP crystal. For the first time, a diode-pumped actively Q-switched Nd:YVO4/RbTiOPO4 (RTP) intracavity Raman laser at 1.49 µm was demonstrated to the best of our knowledge. Experimentally, a dual-end diffusion-bonded YVO4–Nd:YVO4–YVO4 crystal was employed as the laser medium to generate 1.34 µm laser radiation, and an RTP crystal as the Raman medium to enable the frequency conversion, by which radiation at 1.49 µm was achieved successfully. With an incident pump power of 10.4 W, an average output power of 502 mW was obtained at a pulse repetition rate of 15 kHz, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 4.8%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The trial vaccine was safe in subjects ≥ 3 years. • The immunogenicity of trial vaccine was non-inferior to the comparator in ≥ 3 years subjects. • Two-dose vaccine series with the trial vaccine is safe and can trigger a stronger immune response than that of one-dose in 3–8 years subjects. Subunit influenza vaccine only formulated with surface antigen proteins has better safety profiles relative to split-virion influenza vaccine. Compared to the traditional quadrivalent split-virion influenza vaccine, a novel quadrivalent subunit influenza vaccine is urgently needed in China. We completed a phase 3, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, non-inferiority clinical study at two sites in Henan Province, China. Eligible volunteers were split into four age cohorts (3–8 years, 9–17 years, 18–64 years, and ≥ 65 years, based on their dates of birth) and randomly assigned (1:1) to the subunit and the split-virion ecNAIIV4 groups. All volunteers were intramuscularly administered a single vaccine dose at baseline, and children aged 3–8 years received a boosting dose at day 28. And the immune response was evaluated by measuring hemagglutinin-inhibition antibody titers against the four vaccine strains in blood samples. Safety profiles had nonsignificant differences between the study groups in ≥ 3 years cohort. Most adverse reactions post-vaccination, both local and systemic, were mild to moderate and resolved within 3 days. And no serious adverse events occurred. The immunogenicity of the trial vaccine was non-inferior to the comparator. Further, a two-dose vaccine series can provide better seroprotection than that of a one-dose series in children aged 3–8 years, with clinically acceptable safety profiles. The aim of this work was to study syngas production by integrating CO 2 partial gasification (for CO production) of pine sawdust (PS) and methane pyrolysis (for H 2 production) over the gasification residue. Effect of the gasification conditions (including CO 2 flow rate, reaction temperature, mass ratio of PS:Ni and reaction time) was investigated on properties of the gasification residue. Besides CO-rich gas released from the gasification process with CO 2 conversion up to about 92%, the gasification residue could serve as robust catalyst for H 2 production by methane pyrolysis. Thanks to the nickel crystallites formed with high reduction degree and high dispersion on the surface after the gasification process, the gasification residue was competent for high and stable methane conversion (about 91%) at 850 °C. In addition to the flexible syngas output (in theory, with an arbitrary ratio of H 2 /CO), valuable filamentous carbons can be achieved by regulating the process parameters. • CO 2 gasification and methane pyrolysis are integrated for syngas production. • The gasification residue serves as catalyst for catalytic methane pyrolysis. • Gasification conditions play a role on formation and properties of the catalyst. • High and stable CO 2 (92%) and CH 4 conversions (91%) can be achieved. • Besides flexible syngas output, valuable filamentous carbons can be obtained. Vanadium carbide (V 2 C), a newly developed MXene, has been theoretically predicted to be an excellent nonlinear optical materials. Here, few-layer V 2 CT x nanosheets were synthesized by liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) method. Z-scan measurement was performed to explore their third-order nonlinear optical properties, highlighting the strong nonlinearities of few-layer V 2 CT x nanosheets. And the effective nonlinear absorption coefficient was determined to be − 98.3 cm/MW, corresponding to the imaginary part of the third-order nonlinear effects was obtained to be − 1.106 × 10−8 esu. In addition, microfiber-based few-layer V 2 CT x saturable absorber (SA) was fabricated by optical deposition method and the saturable absorption characteristic was measured by I-scan technique. The Yb-doped and Er-doped fiber lasers (YDFLs and EDFLs) were performed by inserting microfiber-based few-layer V 2 CT x SA into the ring cavity. And the stable mode-locked operation was realized with super high signal- noise ratio (SNR). The length of an erbium-doped fiber laser is optimized to develop a dual-wavelength nonlinear polarization rotation mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser. The mode-locked laser can emit two stable wavelengths of 1530 nm and 1558 nm with a fiber length of 570 cm. With the absorbed pump power of 150 mW, the maximum average output power of 19.2 mW with the repetition frequency of 11.95 MHz and pulse width of 389 fs is obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
