Abstract

Objectives ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) can affect all age groups. We aimed to show that differences in disease presentation and 6 month outcome between younger- and older-onset patients are still incompletely understood. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Diagnostic and Classification Criteria for Primary Systemic Vasculitis (DCVAS) study between October 2010 and January 2017 with a diagnosis of AAV. We divided the population according to age at diagnosis: Results A total of 1338 patients with AAV were included: 66% had disease onset at Conclusion Within 6 months of diagnosis of AAV, patients >65 years of age display a different pattern of organ involvement and an increased risk of significant damage and mortality compared with younger patients.

Abstract

Hugoniot measurements on the highly dense, pure B4C polycrystal were performed by the inclined-mirror method to study the elastoplastic transition and to search phase transition. In inclined-mirror streak photographs, the smoothly jagged structure was observed at the free-surface shape in the plastic region. The Hugoniot-elastic limit (HEL) has been determined to be approximately 19.5 GPa. In the plastic region, a kink was observed at a particle velocity of around 1.26 km/s. The shock velocity (US)–particle velocity (UP) Hugoniot relations in the plastic region were given by US=3.7+5.4UP km/s in the Up range of 0.54–1.26 km/s and US=9.61+0.73UP km/s in the Up range of 1.26–4.3 km/s. The S value (0.73) in US=C0+SUP above UP=1.26 km/s is significantly small compared with the result of Vogler et al. [J. Appl. Phys. 95, 4173 (2004)], and was much smaller than those of many oxides and nitrides. This material behaved as an elastoisotropic solid above the HEL and showed a large and linear change in the pressure-density plot above 38 GPa (UP=1.26 km/s), which indicated the onset of a phase transition. Abstract

The inclined mirror method is used to perform Hugoniot measurements on the highly dense, pure [B.sub.4]C polycrystal in order to study the elastoplastic transition and to search phase transition. The results have shown that this material behaved as an elastoisotropic solid above Hugoniot-elastic limit (HEL) and displayed a large and linear change in the pressure-density plot above 38 GPa, indicating the onset of a phase transition.

Abstract

Aims: Alterations in microenvironments are a hallmark of cancer, and these alterations in germinomas are of particular significance. Germinoma, the most common subtype of central nervous system germ cell tumours, often exhibits massive immune cell infiltration intermingled with tumour cells. The role of these immune cells in germinoma, however, remains unknown. Methods: We investigated the cellular constituents of immune microenvironments and their clinical impacts on prognosis in 100 germinoma cases. Results: Patients with germinomas lower in tumour cell content (i.e. higher immune cell infiltration) had a significantly longer progression‐free survival time than those with higher tumour cell contents (P = 0.03). Transcriptome analyses and RNA in‐situ hybridization indicated that infiltrating immune cells comprised a wide variety of cell types, including lymphocytes and myelocyte‐lineage cells. High expression of CD4 was significantly associated with good prognosis, whereas elevated nitric oxide synthase 2 was associated with poor prognosis. PD1 (PDCD1) was expressed by immune cells present in most germinomas (93.8%), and PD‐L1 (CD274) expression was found in tumour cells in the majority of germinomas examined (73.5%). Conclusions: The collective data strongly suggest that infiltrating immune cells play an important role in predicting treatment response. Further investigation should lead to additional categorization of germinoma to safely reduce treatment intensity depending on tumour/immune cell balance and to develop possible future immunotherapies. Abstract

Dialysis related amyloidosis (DRA) is a progressive and serious complication in patients under long-term hemodialysis and mainly leads to osteo-articular diseases. Although beta(2)-microglobulin (beta2-m) is the major structural component of beta2-m amyloid fibrils, the initiation of amyloid formation is not clearly understood. Here, we have identified procollagen C-proteinase enhancer-1 (PCPE-1) as a new interacting protein with beta2-m by screening a human synovium cDNA library. The interaction of beta2-m with full-length PCPE-1 was confirmed by immunoprecipitation, solid-phase binding and pull-down assays. By yeast two-hybrid analysis and pull-down assay, beta2-m appeared to interact with PCPE-1 via the NTR (netrin-like) domain and not via the CUB (C1r/C1s, Uegf and BMP-1) domain region. In synovial tissues derived from hemodialysis patients with DRA, beta2-m co-localized and formed a complex with PCPE-1. beta2-m did not alter the basal activity of bone morphogenetic protein-1/procollagen C-proteinase (BMP-1/PCP) nor BMP-1/PCP activity enhanced by PCPE-1. PCPE-1 did not stimulate beta2-m amyloid fibril formation from monomeric beta2-m in vitro under acidic and neutral conditions as revealed by thioflavin T fluorescence spectroscopy and electron microscopy. Since PCPE-1 is abundantly expressed in connective tissues rich in type I collagen, it may be involved in the initial accumulation of beta2-m in selected tissues such as tendon, synovium and bone. Abstract

We have developed a power-gating technique for a mobile processor in 28-nm HKMG technology. The proposed EM-tolerant 1.8V I/O NMOS power switch reduces the standby power to 1/641× and achieves 79% channel utilization without weakening EM immunity. The active leakage power of the dual CPU cores can be reduced by 45 mW in a single core operation mode with a rapid 1.4-μs wakeup time to full core operation. A mobile processor is designed and fabricated with proposed technique. Estimated standby power of the chip is 123 μW, resulting in one order of magnitude reduction compared to the conventional techniques.
